Has anyone figured out how SBMM actually works?
With this I mean the "win condition" as killer and survivor, which is something dbd doesn't have for some reason.... in the top 10 most played steam games.....and we still don't know how to win...
If you can, try to answer these questions:
- I still haven't tried, but what happens as killer if you tunnel straight off the hook every single survivor?
- What happens if you manage to slug all 4 survivors and let them bleed out?
- What happens if you camp all 4 of them to death doing only 4 hooks?
- What happens if all 4 of them suicide on hook?
- What happens if all of them disconnect from the match instantly?
- What happens if all of the disconnect but when the match uptime has passed a bit?
- What happens if you do 9 hooks but 3 survivors escape?
- What happens if 3 survivors get the "EZ WIN DOG" at 1 gen left with key 🔑?
- As pig what happens if you get 4 head pops?
- What happens if you mori all 4 survivors with devour?
- What happens if you down all 4 of them and hook them instantly?
- What happens if zombies down all 4 survivors?
- What happens if you mori all 4 with Myers' tombstone?
- What happens if you down all 4 survivors but not in a chase (like at distance, deep wound timer runs out, etc)
- What happens if you kill all 4 of them, but no gens get completed but the chases were all super long
- What happens if they bring 4 toolboxes and try to rush gens as fast as possible?
- What happens if you kill all 4 of the just by grabbing them from lockers?
- What happens if you do 4 kills with the end game collapse?
- What happens if you get 4 kills but in the endgame?
- What happens if you get no kills but 8 hooks?
- What if you get only 2 kills but the gens went at c (speed of light) and got only 2 hooks in total?
(Btw with hooks I don't mean the new HUD feature, I mean summing all the times you pressed spacebar to hook someone on hook)
As survivor:
- What happens if you do a 5 gen chase but you depip and get killed?
- What happens if you die but 3 teammates escape?
- What happens if you don't do anything but escape through the hatch?
- What happens if you don't do anything but all 4 of you escape?
- What happens if the killer just straight up facecamps/slugs/tunnels you out of the match?
- What happens if the killer disconnects?
After any of these events has happened, how is the skill level of the players you found the next match?

Simple: it doesn't
There isn't a way for players to really know how MMR is being calculated since there is no way to view your own MMR.
Which is fine, because a problem of the emblem system is that it's very easy to "game" the emblems to pip or depip.
Saying gg ez after the game increases rating by 100
How is this something constructive but just a first comment to get "vote up"?
Please, this is a serious discussion.
If the players you face change with your secret number, then if you play multiple matches in the same way you should see changes
I would bet (ofc I don't know) that it works according to what they said about it "predicting the outcome of a match".
My understanding of that is that their system keeps track of how many hooks, kills and escapes happened in all of your matches with each killer, compares them to the same stats each of 4 survivors has against that killer and makes a prediction on how many hooks, kills and escapes will this match you're about to play right now have.
That's about the only way I can think of.
I think this is one of DBD's biggest problems. There is no definite win condition for either side. Killer can 4K but down rank and get 10k BP. Killer can get zero kills but rank up and have 30k BPs. Survivor have equally weird situations on their side.
I am fine with the MMR calculations being a secret. It makes sense so players won't figure out how to abuse the match making. However I'm not confident the devs really have a solid answer for what a win condition is for the game.
So who knows. At the end of the day the joke is on us when we play ultra-competitively b/c winning is subjective in DBD.
I think the hook counter is an important factor on it. Don't know anymore than that.
Nobody knows and the devs won’t confirm it.
Personally, I’m assuming it’s balanced around kills/escapes with modifiers for some in-match performance metrics. If you kill all 4, your MMR gets a boost. If you escape, your MMR gets a boost. Whether you slug everyone at 5 gens, or get all 4 in EGC with NOED, or 3 hook everyone, or mori with Devour is probably irrelevant. Same with escapes.
I can’t think of any other way they’d do it really. Killers who are facing survivors below their skill level will 4k a lot. Survivors who are facing killers below their skill level will escape a lot. There will be outlier matches of course (squads with 4x BNP, survivors feeding a basement Bubba, throwers, AFKers, etc.) but on average, in games where people are just playing how they normally play, their kill/escape rates will probably tend to reflect whether they’re matched against opponents of a similar level or not. And SBMM is essentially all about averages.
Note: I’m not saying this is the best or only way to do it, or the way the devs are calculating MMR, I’m just assuming they’ve gone with something like this. Just an opinion. :)
