Wastes time in the middle of nowhere? Like, what, 5 seconds?

5 seconds for every survivor for every chase. That'll add up.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3372548#Comment_3372548

Sprint Burst can be stronger if you go off pure numbers, but it's more awkward to work around than the simpler button press of Dead Hard. Besides, the issue of Dead Hard isn't the raw numbers of it, it's the mindgame. If a survivor runs away from you really fast, you know they have Sprint Burst right away and decide how to handle it then and there, but Dead Hard is much easier to keep concealed. After a while, Killers have to assume every survivor has it if they don't want to keep falling for it, and there's no absolutely certain way of telling a survivor has it until they use it. So we have to play the stupid Dead Hard guessing game of gluing ourselves to every survivor's back waiting for them to use the move they may or may not have and may or may not be trying to bait out because they know we don't know.

So we end up with this stupid clown show of two players afraid to make a move because one of them might have a trick they can pull at any second and the side that messes up first will lose and lose hard. And every moment the killer wastes on this guessing game is a small victory for the survivors. Now multiply that by four.

Dead Hard's power isn't just the free hit, it's the psychology it has forced people to adopt. It's like a little ghost that haunts every killer whispering "You can hit them now, but what if they have Dead Hard?" whether the survivor have the perk or not.

DH isnt just a simple button press, every time you activate DH you dont just immediately get value, Sprint Burst on the other hand will net you that value. In a meta as well where 3 gens are very prominent, being able to reach a safe space from basically anywhere is something that isnt talked about nearly as much as it should. It also deincentivizes killers to chase some one since they might just have way too much distance.

Now you wanna know what isnt talked about either? Knowing a Survivor has Sprint Burst, but not seeing them use it to gain distance immediately. Yknow what that means? They have the possibility of having something thats even stronger than old DH that can still be used while healthy. But this time? You know they have it, you dont know if its ready, and thus you are conditioned to commit to the chase until you find out without even getting a hit. DH at least makes the Survivor have to mend which wastes a bit of time, you get none of that with SB.

I understood at first waiting out DH, but now Ive gotten to a point where I just immediately swing. Good Survivors expect the wait, so why wait? If they end up using it immediately then keep it in mind and expect them to do so again.

Sure theres a big risk in doing so, sure the Survivor might get away, but this mindgame still HEAVILY favors the killer since in the end they still do have the option of waiting for the Survivor to make a move.

I personally disagree since sprint burst will aid you to gain more ground in the beginning, but the thing ends here, while dead hard is essentially a 3rd health state with most of the killer (only exceptions are legion IF he hit you 1st with a feral slash and deathslinger IF the walls of certain loops are low)

Thing is that extra distance gained from SB is nothing to scoff at, especially against killers with nothing to aid them in catching up.

DH acts as a 3rd health state yes, but its never guaranteed. 99% of the time its a read, the only times where its not is against Demo at a max charge shred (which a Survivor can just simply dodge with a correct read) and Huntress' hatchets from a distance (which again, can just be dodged) in both of these cases its risky to go for, even with DH out of the question. What I think is happening with DH is that its frustrating to go against, and a common mistake that anyone playing any game makes, is they think Frustrating = OP. Which we all know is not the case.

Sprint Burst on the other hand will almost always buy you time, and even initiate a chase in areas where you had no business doing so. Some times you have so much distance that its not even worth it for the killer to keep going after you. In some cases the Survivor has so much distance that it buys just as much time (if not more) than a successful DH.

Another thing is its use against instadown killers. Being healthy against a Bubba while you have DH is no good, while SB can still gain you that distance.

Keep in mind this is all without even mentioning 99ing it. Having SB on demand has almost the same effect as old Dead Hard, but instead you gain even more distance with no i-frames. While sure this is very situational I usually have it happen at least once every game when using SB. Which is about as many times a successful DH should be activating.

Theyre both strong perks dont get me wrong, they both have their strengths, how ever Sprint Bursts consistency and reliability is what makes it the stronger option.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

Then why it's so popular? This is the main question: if there are better perks out there, why most of the survivors out there will take this perk instead of choosing another exhaustion perk?

Because its still a good perk? Something can be good but not OP. The advantage of DH is the satisfaction of hitting a successful DH, it feels and is much more rewarding as well than any other Exhaustion perk which are probably the strongest perks a Survivor can run

If were talking viability, Sprint Burst is hands down the most powerful option. Sure it nets less distance per activation but it also activates much more frequently and is MUCH more consistent. A good SB user is much scarier than a good DH user.

  • Another strategy I found to be pretty effective on small maps with lots of LoS blockers is placing drones in the center of the map, which does a few things:

-Since they are further away from gens it deincentivizes Survivors from disabling them, since theyre further away.

-It creates a giant zone that Survivors dont want to go in, as they risk getting exposed

-You can actually make use of your stealth this way

Its situational, but its definitely more fun and interesting than just planting drones at a 3 gen. Theres also the other form of utilizing her stealth by leaving a drone at a gen, then as you walk away you leave a trail. If the drone gets tampered with/spots some one, utilize your path to stay stealthy and catch them off guard.

The more I play her, the more neat tricks I find with her. Her drones are pretty versatile and there are so many neat things you can do with them. Just like Knight how ever, people opt for the boring route of refusing to learn them and just go for a 3 gen. It truly is a shame

30 DH in 10 matches done until now, not bad for a perk that for certain people here on the forum was deemed as useless...

I dont think anyone is saying DH is useless

Its just not this godly perk many people claim it to be

  • Anything that creates the same effect as a loud noise notif as a gen will alert a Zombie

From the top of my head those are: Failed Skill Checks on Gens/Heals, Sabotaging Hooks, Fast Vaulting, Throwing a Pallet, Quickly Jumping in/out of a Locker and Unhooks. Certain Survivor perks can also alert the zombies, such as Red Herring, Diversion, and Deception. As for killer perks, I believe only Discordance works

Perks that have the sound of a loud noise notif, but not the generic bubble, will not alert Zombies. These are perks like Spies From the Shadows, Tinkerer, and of course Call of Brine

Everything is from my own observation, I will gladly be corrected

  • Most perks are actually decent and synergize with either specific killers or with other perks

Problem is the strongest perks are way better than these, which is why you dont see them very often.

You dont have to go out of your way to play normally.

I played fair and friendly/intentionally bad for over a year, survivor don't hold back or pull their punches, no matter how the killer plays. So not using every option is detrimental to your winning chances.

Most people nowadays understand that camping and tunneling are sometimes necessary in certain situations, theyre just not vocal about it since again, no need to be vocal about the norm

Strange, before i intentionally went for the experimental playtstyle mentioned above i got cussed out for tunneling, camping and the like regularly, if i did it or not. I guess the vocal people became the minority in the meantime /s

"I played fair and friendly/intentionally bad for over a year, survivor don't hold back or pull their punches, no matter how the killer plays. So not using every option is detrimental to your winning chances"

Just because youre going out of your way to play nice and pull your punches doesnt mean the otherside will. No one expects it and no one will praise you for doing so. This goes for both sides.

"Strange, before i intentionally went for the experimental playtstyle mentioned above i got cussed out for tunneling, camping and the like regularly, if i did it or not. I guess the vocal people became the minority in the meantime /s"

They are still very much a minority, people just tend to remember the bad experiences rather than the average ones. (because why would you remember your average game?) I could say my experience as Survivor lately has been pretty bad because in a good chunk of my games Ive had a killer quite literally tunnel me straight from the get go and then proceed to hit me on hook until I die (Last session this happened twice in a row) and then also had BM in endgame chat from them.

Despite this, Im well aware it was just a bad batch of games and the majority of killers arent like this. I also know that bm and trashtalking is nothing special and something present in all games. No point in getting upset over it

Because the first is being nice, to one's own detriment.

The latter "should" be the norm and not some extraordinary and praiseworthy.

So if the latter is the norm and isnt anything "extraordinary and praiseworthy." Why should playing killer normally be?

    Aint that the truth

    well said 👏

  • Still dont see anyone acknowledging the latter

  • i remember seeing one of those for the first time. It was an ace in a pink shirt just runnin around calling god every 2nd step

yeah I started playing mid 2017 btw. Took me a year before I first encountered it

Maybe its because not being a dick is commonplace in society?

Just because you didn't do anything obnoxious doesn't mean you did anything special.

Survivors don't thank the killer when he doesn't BM on hook or tunnel.

Also, it kinda sounds weird saying "Hey, thanks for not being a ###### person!"

    No #########?

    So why yall acting surprised?

  • @Veinslay said:

Yeah survivors cry so much about camping and tunneling but show zero appreciation or respect to killers that don't. Anytime I play nice and multiple survivors escape, it's guaranteed teabags, emotes in the exit gate and gg ez messages

Yknow and killers just keep crying about Survivors escaping with tbags, emotes and flashlight clicks and saying gg ez at the end.. but I never see any appreciation to the Survivors who don't do that.

This game can go both ways sunshine ;)

It's so sad that Spirit is no longer considered one of the strongest killers in the game, with insane addons and some addons that are bugged and pull double duty as duration and recovery.

    Shame.

Bruh that aint a shame thats a win

just like Sprint Burst being slept on

  • @Coffeecrashing said:

It's a bigger nerf than her original directional audio. It's crystal clear over terror radius music, bell noises, piano noises, and everything else. And zero sound occlusion, or anything else that might get in the way.

I guess she wasn't considered nerfed enough when she had the original directional audio, and needed to be double nerfed to make sure she's as miserable as possible to play.

yeah, because Spirit was REALLY suffering from that nerf

    C tier killer at best

  • Twins and Freddy, I saw one of each in the last month

Billy I've actually seen a rise in, bout time people realized that he's literally the same basekit, and with double engravings

Well when you only see it from their perspective, then yeah I can see how you'd think its quite common

    (it really aint)

I believe we just need a casual game mode instead of everyone being forced into ranked every game. There's a lot of people who just want to have fun and chill, and a lot of people who just want to win - these two groups should not be coupled together without an option. Baby players barely even get an opportunity to learn the game before they are thrown into a system where they are harshly punished (tunneled) for simply not knowing how to play yet, and this ruins the experience for a lot of early players who just want to learn. I and others should not have to explain that this is just a part of the game, they should have the option to do normal or competitive game play. Maybe I am very off-topic but I believe this to be the biggest flaw with MMR personally.

With this all youd have is the Apex Legends situation

where low MMR players have a better time in ranked, and if they care about their rank then theres no winning. You have a bad time no matter what

  • I think the idea of the perk should become basekit, basically a 5th perk slot dedicated to a perk that activates during endgame. (Not a Hex/Totem, but something similar to totems)

This way youre giving Survivors a secondary objective that isnt necessary, but it would definitely pay off to get rid of it early.

  • Sounds like its not just Little Timmy who cant win a game

  • When it comes to Solo Q, Ive been running Sprint Burst, Vigil, Bond and Object of Obsession. Object is a more recent addition to my build and provides A LOT of information.

Vigil just makes Sprint Burst that much better and usually makes me be able to start off or completely prevent a chase. At the very least it reduces the cooldown far enough to let me activate it in the middle of a chase.

  • The rock glitch is something that both killers and survivors can do

    just sayin

  • I know a game wont be nearly as enjoyable if I play Trickster on a map like RPD or Lerys.

I think each killer should have a certain map pool that they can go to. This way balancing killers would be MUCH easier since Billy on a map like Wreckers Yard is basically a completely different game than on Gideon.

This would make balancing SO much easier, as each killers performance will be much more consistent.

  • Myself

Even what is essentially unwinnable situations, putting the blame on yourself will make you recognize mistakes you did. These mistakes can then be corrected in future games.

This is something I do for every game, not just DbD.

  • A complete rework leaning more towards his OG self

  • Same here, I enjoyed the extended screams much more. As well as the scream starting as the hook pierced their shoulder, instead of at the end of the animation.

Made it feel much more realistic, which adds much more to the horror vibe

I don’t bring items because I like opening chests.

    Then Ill do the unthinkable

    Improve it.

Also same here, I usually only bring items when running specific builds

  • now some of these mori's are explained in pretty intense detail so I only have to ask one thing... is everything going ok at home?

aight fr tho i would be down for more mori's. A mori shop is a no-brainer and I'm surprised the devs haven't done it yet.

Don't sit here and white collar defend a company that doesn't even know you, why are you even defending a stagnant gameplay feature instead of expanding on what we have? I don't take you seriously either lol yall can run in circles over and over and be satisfied on a diff post but i want to expand the game

Im not defending them, I'm giving you a reason.

I would love to see another gamemode myself, but with my time playing this game and just my experience with life, I've found that its better to have realistic expectations

  • Almost 3 hours

Yeah you guessed it, hatch stand off.

  • Good on that Jonah for getting his adept :)

o-oh, the chat? yeah cool good job 👍️

  • I just want people to not play like a dick. If you're intentionally playing the game to be a nuisance to everyone else and make sure they're not having a good time, then I think being upset at how you played is justified. Most people understand that unfun strategies are some times necessary but in the majority of games, 80% of the time these strats don't need to be in play

  • Billy but specifically on Ormond or any of the Autohaven's

A lot of the surfaces he doesnt bump onto, which adds another layer to the chase and is always a joy facing

  • yeah you're right

lets go back in time when the game was so much more killer biased

  • not a hacker, just a bug that allows both killers and survivors to get on top of the rock. The way to do so is to walk into a specific spot at the rock, which is being covered up by your hammer.

  • I'd still play Trickster, Billy and Dre-

    oh

  • Autohaven, MacMillan, Red Forest and The Borgo actually got a sort of shadow nerf on PTB and as far as Im aware it did reach live. Its a change that prevents the repeat tiles, meaning you cant have things like 3 jungle gyms spawn right next to each other, or Suffo Pits infamous 5 T-L walls in the middle. Only one of them can spawn per seed.

Asylum and Coldwind still dont follow this rule tho, and its probably because they havent made any new tiles for them yet like they did for Autohaven and MacMillan.

I expect changes to them soon, especially Coldwind. Hopefully we get a pass on map sizes as well after that

  • @RavenBirb said:

Chapters aside and map changes, the gameplay has been the exact same almost since 2016.

Because its a unique formula that has clearly worked. BHVR at the end of the day is a business, and a business is there to make money. Spending time and resources to work on something that may be a flop when they could of just spent those resources improving on what they have is the route their choosing, and there isn't anything wrong with that

  • I can promise you at the level you play it, its way more balanced than you think

  • Yeah I'd like a word from them. This ain't a really good meta we're in and is a big reason why so many people think the game feels stale.

Best meta this game can go in is a chase oriented meta, since chases are basically the only time both sides interact with each other.

  • @VikingDragonXii said:

Killers Primary Objective is to Kill Survivors

Secondary Objective is Protect Gens From Being Repaired.

Survivors only have one objective...Repair Gens to escape. Totems would be at most considered a optional objective since they are not required to be done to complete the Main objective.

On most maps losing 3 gens in quick succession does usually mean the Killer will lose that match because the Gens would be so far apart trying to apply pressure would be very difficult unless the Killer goes for a 3-Gen Def or Survivors 3-Gen themselves.

If you're dumbing down survivors to just repairing gens, then killers only objective is to simply kill survivors

  • Considering my schedule I usually am only able to play late at night, and I don't find them any different. If anything thats when I get the most inconsistent games compared to days

1 … 64 65 66 67 68 … 147
