This type of stuff is much more difficult to change in a competitive PvP game than it is in single player or co-op games. While accessibility is great and I encourage it whenever possible, unfortunately there are going to be cases where it's just not possible to make things that are going to be accessible to everyone, especially in the video game industry.
How would you suggest changing something like Plague to make it more manageable for you, without changing the core animations?
The animation itself can almost be entirely avoided by just looking away, for me it ends up being the color and sounds. The constant gagging and the green on the ground afterwards is what does it. I don't care if I'm playing at a disadvantage especially when she is as rare as she is currently, but they could easily have a setting that turns the sounds off and changes the color and I would be completely fine.

I'll start to think about others when I commonly see survivors give pity kills if they were to play for 8-12 hooks.
If you play in ways where you don't constantly go for every single win and try hard. I constantly have games where people sit at the hook nearest to exit gate and let me sacrifice them, or someone stays behind letting me mori them for a free kill because I made the game fun for them.

Tunneling isn't scummy. if tunneling is scummy then spreading on gens should also be considered scummy because it does effectively the same thing. Being efficient on the objective.
Tunneling someone out of the game at 5 or 4 gens is extremely scummy. Dead by Daylight is a pvp horror party game, not the next competitive masterclass game where you have to try your absolute hardest to win every single game, and its incredibly disingenuous to act like it is. You are not incentivized to "be efficient", hell you are actively penalized for it if games end too fast, you get significantly less bp than if you don't kill a single survivor and just let them all escape after 8 hooks (I have tested it personally, average over double the BP just by having chases and kicking gens, then just rushing for a 4k every game). There is no incentive to win other than enjoyment of the game, you don't gain rank, you don't even gain more pips if you win specifically. The flawed mindset of "I need to win every game" will make you hate the game in of itself. You have to enjoy the route to get there, and it will make you enjoy the game itself much more in the process. Am I saying never try? No, but using tactics like tunneling and slugging, which actively detriment the game for 1 or many people, is both not efficient on the only actual goal of the game - getting bloodpoints, and ruins the fun (the most important part of a video game) for people. Think about others.

You sound like a angry survivor main. The crows for to quickly I will agree with that but you just sound angry and narcissistic in a survivor way. This needs to stop being a us vs them and just agree that the crows are a problem without making it a fight
"Angry and narcissistic" for… not wanting a VIDEO GAME to be unfun? I play 50/50, so I'm by no means a "survivor main". This has always been an "us vs them" fight and it never will stop being that way until the devs stop showing blatant favoritism. At first its survivors, killers get jaded and hate the game, and then it flip flops until we're at today, where the game is nearly 10 years old, people are sick of favoritism, they are sick of being left out to rot over and over again, sometimes for multiple years at a time. Killers have been receiving things more and more that just makes them stronger and stronger, not even from a perk standpoint, these are innate gameplay elements that exist to punish survivors. Both sides deserve to have fun an a chance at the win, the crow system in of itself is half baked, but it is absolutely insane to not say its in the killers favor.
-
Springtrap slows to 3.68m/s when holding his axe, Huntress slows to 3.08m/s. Has the same windup speed as huntress, and gets an instant pickup from it unless the survivor uses a haste perk (which never comes up because his best build uses Mindbreaker). Do I also need to say how he gets boosted to 115% after throwing the axe for some god forsaken reason? He is overtuned. He is a Jack of All Trades that very easily excels in multiple categories.

Hell no hes mid b at best hes just a sluggish huntress with map mobility attached
He is a better huntress with one of the fastest first hit to down times in the game, full map teleporting that is incredibly quiet and spawns him within spitting distance of gens, undetectable for at least 20 seconds, along with 2 instant pickups. He is more than fine if he doesn't also get full map knowledge every single time he steps foot into the doors.

you expect the killer to play your way, join in on your fun but the killer might not have fun that way. Sure everyone should be able to have fun but bottom line is not everyone can have fun when 2 sides have different views of what fun is. if you don't run and let the killer get you then you absolutely deserve to be tunneled out lol.
'You deserve to have your fun ruined because you didn't play into the arbitrary rules that the killer wants to follow'. So I as a survivor have to play into the killers power fantasy and ego trip because I wanted to have fun instead of sweating with exclusively meta perks?

What does he have left if you nerf bonnies strings? Greasy paper plate? Guard badge? Xelebrate poster and foxys hook already got gutted and bonnies strings got a downwide. Might aswel remove all addons from springtrap while we are at it...
Bonnie's Guitar Strings is easily one of the best add-ons in the game and it isn't even close. In fact it could be completely removed from the game completely and he would still be an A tier killer.

I'm not sure I understand what people mean by 'survivors' and 'killers'. Are we talking about players who play both roles and just happen to be playing survivor or killer? Or are we talking about the small number of players who are disproportionately playing one role? It's a genuine question because I think most of us play both roles :D
Either way, I guess my experience is vastly different to what you described. I drop survivors at hooks if they've been unlucky enough to get found repeatedly near the beginning of the game. That way they can get picked up and keep playing. And I find that survivors pretty often want to play around with me as killer, boop, or sometimes show me something in the environment. Maybe that's because I main Pig though.
On the other side though, I'll bring items or perks just to interact with the killer. Most often it's Bardic, Pebble, or a Halloween flashlight :D
I think it is logical though to consider the experience of other players. I've definitely had games where I'm nice to someone that later tries to bm, but most of my killer games end in ggs and glnm style comments.
As someone who has quite literally not taken Bardic off any of my builds since getting it (except to do spiders meme builds), it feels extra miserable when I'm just playing off spawn or near a gen I am near and the killer goes and hard focuses me for just trying to have fun, is the perk mid? Yes. Does that mean I deserve to get tunneled because I chose to not immediately cancel it so you could chase me? Not at all. Is this fairly uncommon? Sure, about 1/4 games, but I know for a fact when someone is playing that silly instrument I am leaving them alone or walking up to them to nod at them in agreement. Everyone deserves to have fun playing the game.

@Massquwatt said:
Probably not a great idea, preventing him from using the doors entirely would just mean that survivors have free, unimpeded movement around the map which would be pretty over the top punishing for the killer. The point of the doors is that they're meant to be high risk, high reward for survivors and something you have to keep checks on as the killer.
If he just couldn't use the doors for the duration of the reveal from the camera it would be extremely balanced. He is only revealed for 10 seconds. But this is just a blanket fix for bigger balance issues he has.

This is a multifaceted problem that isn't just survivor or killer based.
Simply put, I work for a living. I don't have time to deal with wastes of time. If you waste my time, it's go next.
Just getting kills doesn't earn the most BP. And I'm not talking about farming. A killer can literally earn 30k bp without killing anyone. BP is based on performing actions. If you prevent me from playing the game I don't feel as though I should wait for you to play out your power fantasy. It's really that simple.
I don't go next often but, I shouldn't be prevented from doing so. Killers that just want the 4k by any means necessary are the problem.
Slugging isn't a tactic.
Tunneling isn't a tactic.
Camping isn't a tactic.
It's lazy.
They just want to win without committing to learning that killer.
I generally get a 4k with Nurse however, my rate is 50%~ish because it took so long to learn.
I don't camp.
I don't tunnel.
I don't slug.
But, if you're an easy target, you did it to yourself. ( if you just went back to the gen I just kicked, it's your fault)
I don't blame SWF. I blame try hard killers.
Try hard to get better. Don't try hard to make people miserable.
It's frustrating to get rolled.
Just means it's not my perks or my gameplay. Just means GG.
I'm not perfect at the game and I'd wish people would quit acting like they know what to do in every situation.
I'm ok with being 50/50% cuz I'm not not winning anything. Quit pretending like each match is a tournament.
Had some asshat survivor get pissed at me (teammate) for not knowing their perks and how to play around them. How stupid are these pricks. I literally can't see your build even as a survivor. Worst part was the killer was camping, tunneling and chose to blame a teammate for ignorant reasons.
I don't expect to survive every round. I don't expect to kill everyone every round.
I expect to be able to play the game.
If I'm forced to run the same perks instead of the perks I want to try; you're preventing me from playing the game as intended.
I shouldn't have to take anti tunnel etc. every damn game.
I WON'T take more than 1 slow down perk as killer cuz, everyone wants to play.
However, if you tea bag me mid game, you're dead. You're literally the problem.
I can't wait for anti-tunnel and anti slug updates. These Killers are toxic.
If you can't get adept without that crap, git gud.
Survivors don't actually get mad with good killers. Using cheap tactics is not being effective. It's just a power trip.
I NEVER use BBQ, Franklins, or NOED. 90% of the time is a Wraith or a Bubba. It's weak and pathetic. I HATE those 2 killers because they are always the same try hard personality. I will never play either of those killers or those perks.
I play the same perks on Executioner every time. It's fun. Survivors figure it out after 2-3 minutes but, I still get some jump scares and if they roll me; it's fine. We all just want to have fun.
Trail of Torment, Distressing, Unnerving Presence, Dead Mans Switch.
I shouldn't feel like I should meta killer or survivor.
Quit feeling like you have to run 4k trash.
Just play. =)I agree with basically everything you said. But let me add on, a killer is ALWAYS in the match the entire game no matter how long it is, BUT survivors are only in the match until they die, then they are completely removed and lose 100% of rewards after that point, but killers don't, they still get every single point for chases, gens being damaged, pallets destroyed. Hopefully the changes actually punish people for using scummy tactics to "win".

I mean, yeah, but the big problem is that Anti-Tunnel Perks are really bad against what they want to stop - tunneling. If the Killer really wants to tunnel, the Perks just outright fail and are more of a nuisance, at best. But sadly this is a theme with Survivor Perks which are Anti-Something.
Problem is created by poor planning and game design
Perk is created/buffed/changed on survivor side to balance it out
Problem becomes mainstream and now everyone has to use "Anti-X Perk" or suffer (or in most cases both) -

so basically you want a guaranteed 4k?
That's all they ever want. They want every game handed to them on a silver platter with no effort to fuel their power fantasy and ego. It's the entire reason why tunneling even exists to begin with, and why we end up in these 2v1 unwinnable situations. Killer mains demand they deserve to win because they play the role with less players. Purely narcissistic though process.

It doesn't take skill to sit on a gen either but that's what the objective of the survivor is. If 1 or 2 survivors can loop the killer then the other 2 survivors can sit on gens, open the gate and escape while demonstrating 0 skill. Or fail at doing the gens and escape via hatch, again showing 0 skill.
Huge self report but go off.

What Mario Party are you playing? People burned/blistered their hand spinning the stick in MP1+2, nintendo had to offer hand-protecting gloves.
People play MP to win.
Anyways if dbd was as casual as survivors claimed, then they wouldnt be so salty for losing...
No one is "salty for losing" they are upset their game was ruined over someone being an ass. No killer needs to slug or tunnel every single game, yet at least 50% of games include one or the other, BHVRs own stat, 25% of games include slugging for a 4k, and 25% of games include one person being tunneled out early in the game. If you were to play a game with a friend only for them to be forced to stop playing 3 minutes in because of any reason you would be upset. Survivors have every right to be upset with the absolute egomaniacs this game produces because of how much of a power fantasy killer is. 90% of survivors do not play with 3 other friends, they play with 1 or 2. Much further from these "SWF bully squads" killers love to tout around saying they face every game, which is statistically improbable. Especially when balance changes keep being made against specifically the SWF squads that keeps hurting the majority, which is solo queue/duo queue players, Babysitter nerf from 9.0.0? Direct nerf to people trying to avoid tunneling. Meanwhile new killer after new killer has tools to make the game miserable for survivors if survivors don't play the game absolutely perfectly.

With among us its a majority of the time played with people you know and or have mutuals with. Thats what makes it a party game. DBD is majority of the time randoms. Notice how in dbd there isn't party game mechanics for insane comebacks. In most dbd matches the side with more skill usually wins meanwhile in games like mario kart it can legit just be whoever got the most lucky. Very big differences.
If this game really were to cross into "party game" territory its barely on the line of being a party game."The side with more skill"? Is that what we're calling overly blatant use of scummy tactics to "win" games? Skill? It doesn't take skill to tunnel someone off hook, it doesn't take skill to pick Ghoul and slug for a 4k. Which both of those stats sit at around 25% of games on their own by BHVRs own stats. That is 50% of games.

Nobody likes to lose at Mario Party. Just like nobody likes to lose at anything lol.
"Nobody likes to lose" I'm sorry what, that is factually wrong. Most people care significantly more about the journey to get there than anything else. That's why people play games, that's why most games competitive scene is always significantly smaller than the casual player base, people care about having fun. People care about enjoying their time doing something no matter the outcome. Wanting to and needing to win is textbook narcissism, no one "deserves" to win anything.

Nobody cares about MMR. It's an invisible number. Tying MMR to hooks won't change anything. People care about winning. They care about earning BP. And they care about not getting bagged at the gates. That's what they care about.
Caring about winning in a party game is absolutely insane. Do you also care when you lose at Mario Party? Games are meant to be fun.

You and I have discussed this topic in depth before, and while we’ve never quite reached common ground, I’m absolutely open to continuing the conversation.
First, I want to be clear: a slugged survivor is always better for the killer than a standing one. It doesn’t matter how or why they were slugged, even if they threw themselves at the killer or “forced” the situation. they’re now off their feet, unable to repair, rescue, cleanse, heal, or do anything else that advances the objective. Whether it was tactical on the survivor’s end or not, they are effectively removed from progress.
From past conversations, your position seemed to be that because survivors can “force” slugging (bodyblocking, hook trades, sabo, etc.) that automatically makes any adjustment to slugging mechanics invalid. But I disagree with that logic because we don’t apply it consistently.
What I’m proposing doesn’t punish the killer for slugging, and it doesn’t remove control. It just encourages smarter, more strategic use of slugging particularly when using it as a win condition versus a defensive counter.
Tactical slugging to counter flashlight saves, sabo plays, or force a trade is essential and should absolutely remain viable. That’s why I suggested a system where nothing changes if the killer remains near the slug. There’s no punishment there, no loss of power. But if the killer walks away and leaves multiple survivors bleeding out all over the map, that should carry some kind of risk.
This isn’t about removing slugging. It’s about drawing a line between tactical, reactive slugging and exploitative, drawn-out slugging that stalls the match for everyone involved. It’s similar to how anti-camp mechanics don’t remove camping, they just limit excessive camping like face-camping. The same principle applies here. That’s all I’m advocating for here too, nuance not removal. In the first 2v8 there was absolutely no reason to slug. Killers had complete control in just the way you’re describing. No flashlight, no sabo, no pallet. Complete control over the hook 100%, no chance of failure. And slugging still happened. It happened often enough that in the second version they had to make changes. I simply can’t agree to this idea that if killers didn’t risk “losing” a hook for a slugged survivor that they wouldn’t slug, and I can’t agree to it because I have quite literally experienced the opposite. The past has proved that to be incorrect.
Slugging itself is the exactly same thing as tunneling except it takes less time. You are removing someone from the game. And with how strong changing the game from a 4v1 to a 3v1 is, people are going to abuse it to reach the path of least resistance, especially if they are of the kind that "need" to win. It doesn't even remotely make it okay, but people will do it even if they get literally nothing for it except the "win" on the endgame screen.

Right? It's a huge license on a free weekend. Let's see what it looks like after the anniversary and people are sick of Animatronic teleporting right on top of them with no warning.
"Free weekend" That didn't bring in more players than the update on Tuesday, the game is sitting at sub 70k on steam on a Sunday night after what has been touted as the "most anticipated chapter" ever. The player numbers are still actively going further and further now and the numbers prove that. 9.0.0 directly nerfing survivors while gamebreaking bugs stay in the game for over a week, remember you need 4 survivors compared to 1 killer, no one wants to play survivor. No one wants to load into a game to play as a punching bag.

@Brimp said:
Because people are still treating a purely pvp game as a party game. Party game implies it can be enjoyed almost anywhere with (most if not all of the time) RNG elements like random space movements or chances to happen when dbd has more than RNG elements so DBD can not be classified as a party game. Casual maybe party? no.
So when they "stop having fun" they think its totally fine to just ruin a match even if it just started. People need to stop treating dbd like it is a party game. This isn't a social gathering of any sort digital or physical. It's strictly Player Vs Player against random people.
DBD is very blatantly a party game, the same way Among Us (a PVP game) and Town Of Salem (a PVP game) are both Party Games. Games that are meant to be fun even though they are PVP games. DBD at its core is a party game.

Haste perks are the killers way to shorten chases. Would you rather face 4 regression perks or 4 haste perks?
Also last time i checked trapper, pig, cenobite (whos chains can easily be broken by terrain), wraith, dredge etc didnt have any mobility or ways to keep up with these exhaustion perks (wich can extend chases by minutes if used correctly)
Every single killer you just state either has a piece of slowdown or movement, Trapper has his traps, Pig moves faster when stealth, Cenobite can slow, Wraith has his invis (which makes him faster), Dredge can TP. Do you just want Survivors to sit there when you smack them to death, because that's what this sounds like. Any sort of resistance survivors put up against what is on average imminent death is constantly met with "why can survivors do x". I play 50/50 of both and can easily adjust my strat if I see someone has haste perks, its not annoying or difficult to deal with.

Can you blame the killer here? The other survivors are crouching around if they're not working gens. He obviously left the hook to look for someone else, but couldn't find anyone. So he went back to hook, where he knows there are two survivors, and only finds the blood trail and scratch marks for the injured survivor just coming off hook. The other survivor went back to stealthing.
Is he supposed to just ignore the only survivor he can find and go randomly looking for one of the immersed survivors?
One of the best ways to prevent tunneling is to take aggro. When a killer hooks someone and comes to your gen, you don't always have to hide. Sometimes it's best to take the chase, especially if you're in a somewhat strong area at the start of the game. I'm much less likely to go back to hook if I'm already chasing someone.
Yes, you can always blame the killer for tunneling. That's not even an argument. It's a video game, made for enjoyment and having fun. One person no matter how bad being singled out of a game immediately removes any semblance of fun for that person, there is 20% of the enjoyment for that match being removed from it nearly instantly. 90% of games you can easily figure out exactly how a killer is going to be as well, see someone being a little too hesitant to walk across the map? You're likely getting tunneled and killed immediately, might as well go next, not like you will be playing much anyway.
-
I played 2 games against Springtrap today, some of the most miserable awful games I have ever played, basically wanted to rip my hair out the entire time. Full map knowledge with a BLUE addon, ranged projectile with the hitbox of a semi truck, ability to teleport across the entire map. I escaped both but at what cost? It was awful to play and felt miserable. Immediately got matched against Alien back to back and my lord, its night and goddamn day how much more reasonable a balanced killer is to face. My entire group has all agreed how miserable Springtrap is to face and we basically give up at the sight of him. 9/10 times he has full map knowledge immediately the second you touch a gen, has the easiest time in the game to camp and tunnel along with his ability to completely negate Endurance with his Axe (which is extremely easy to do off hook).

Killers also hate playing against perks like
Sprint burst
Lithe
Lithe+finese
Vigil basically garuanteeing sprint burst every chase so if your not a dash killer good luck lol
You just listed a bunch of ways that survivors need to use to get away from literally any killer. Not using an exhaustion perk that helps you gain distance in the time of every killer having dashes, insane movement, or ranged attacks is necessary and if you don't like the survivors even attempting to fight back when the role is dying as a whole because of how awful it is to play then have fun with your awful queue times.

So nobody can say anything against it when you clip looks to me like desync of him throwing you in the head. You can even see that the axe is thrown about where you head is peaking just little bit earlier. It might look odd to your angle but for killer it most likely looked quite clean. Also his axe curves down when its thrown so its not unbelievable that it might hit you in that situation.
I have played him several times and the amount of times when the hatchet literally goes millimeters past the survivor and misses is way too many to count. It does not have big hitbox at all. Huntress hatches have way larger hitbox than his axe on my experience of using it.
I am fully hidden for the entire duration of this outside of the very beginning, fully against the wall, with 30 ping. There is no "desync" the axe is simply just clipping through the floor to hit me here, there is no valid excuse for this nonsense. I'm not out in the open, I'm not even in view of the killer. If aimed up the axe should go over me and hit behind me, if aimed down the axe should hit the floor. The axe prioritized my hitbox over the environment which is not okay in the slightest. Hell, you can SEE the axe the frame before it hits me to my LEFT, where I was a fully second prior. There is no way this should ever hit me in the slighest.
-
@Wezqu said:
Odd that I have the totally opposite experience. The times I have shaved survivors backs with it is too many to count. Seems more like its totally fine with the hitbox as I haven't seen any non-deserved hits when I played him. More of those misses that look more like it hit.
How are you going to come to a bug report post with proof saying something completely different. Jeez.

Steam has outliers for everything in their refund policy
The game's not just on Steam. I only mentioned Steam before because it seems like the easiest platform on which to get a refund and I was talking about the game/DLC being very easy to get a refund on if the DLC is killswitched immediately after being purchased. Other platforms can be a big pain in the butt when it comes to refunds.
BHVR might also get in legal trouble if they immediately killswitch a killer. Even if they didn't get in legal trouble, the license holder is much, much less likely to renew the deal with BHVR when it expires if the chapter had a terrible launch.
Even if he does get fixed in a week that still won't keep the players around.
I said the opposite of that. I said if he's fixed in a week those players may stop playing but they are less likely, on whichever platform they may be on, to get a refund. I don't expect most new players to play beyond a week or two, no matter what happens with the chapter.
Its very easy to buy him and then play survivor and go "Wow he's so broken I don't want to play this garbage game again" (which is currently happening), and then refund both him and the game (which is also happening).
New survivors say that about every killer. Because this game is horrible on new players. Like I said, DbD is terrible at retaining new players. For many, many reasons.
much less likely to renew the deal with BHVR when it expires if the chapter had a terrible launch.
Why are they any less likely to renew the license with all of the game breaking bugs surrounding him? Anyone with internet access and fingers to go to google can see how badly its being handled. If I was an IP holder I wouldn't want anything I own to be within a 5 mile radius of Behavior after how they have handled this, launching with a game breaking audio bug on the KNOWN ISSUES LIST? On top of the insane bugs giving the new character an extremely bad rep because of how miserable and frustrating he is to play against? At least disabling him shows they actually care about the integrity of the game and want it to remain fun to everyone, the only reason he hasn't is entirely greed. They see the money they are making and don't care about anything else. There is a free to play weekend this weekend, I doubt anyone stays longer than 5 minutes when they realize they wont be able to play any of the Licensed content without paying, which lets be real BHVR doesn't need any more bad rep right now.

If Springtrap is killswitched immediately upon release, that's people asking for refunds and not being retained as new players. If Springtrap is fixed next week, people are less likely to be able to ask for refunds because too much time will have passed. They may stop playing him or the game altogether, but that's par for the course with DbD. DbD is terrible at retaining new players, and that goes way beyond anything to do with this chapter. Retention is a completely different topic, one with many facets which I've already talked about extensively on these forums.
Steam has outliers for everything in their refund policy, so they cannot be proven as consistent on anything. Even if he does get fixed in a week that still won't keep the players around. Its very easy to buy him and then play survivor and go "Wow he's so broken I don't want to play this garbage game again" (which is currently happening), and then refund both him and the game (which is also happening).

New players are already leaving in droves because of the Go Next Prevention punishing them specifically because they are bad and get tunneled more.
That's people trying out the game to play survivor. Killswitching Springtrap would chase away the ones trying out the game to play killer. Some people play both sides equally, but many gravitate towards one side or the other, especially early on.
Most of these people have friends that they want to play the game with as well because either they got them into it, or because of other reasons. Most people don't want to sit in 20 minute queues for games that last a fraction of the time when they are new or only have short amounts of time to play. These new players are learning a killer that is broken currently and not working as intended, do you think they are going to take it happily when the bugs are fixed and he drops back down to "just good" when they actually have to play against people who reveal them with cams because their audio doesn't completely break? Because they can actually react to him coming out of doors because his both visible and makes noise? They are going to think the character sucks and stop playing. There is no keeping these people around with him in his current state. Killswitching Springtrap IS the only correct answer.

It hasn’t been kill switched because apparently nobody is leaving the game because of it. BHVR sees player count at all time high, so what is their incentive to kill switch?
They are, the game has already lost 25% of the players who joined on Tuesday. That's 7x the amount lost in the same for the RE Chapter.

It would kill the hype for the release stone dead
Not to mention the number of people who would outright demand a refund on the DLC. New players would probably demand a refund on the DLC and game. Sounds like that's pretty easy to do on Steam, at least.
