Equating a couple of button presses with a heinous crime is a bit much.
Tbf, teabagging is also just the click of a button but you'd think that was a crime by the amount of complaints I've seen about teabags over the years. If people can express their displeasure over teabagging then I don't see why there's an issue with someone expressing their displeasure over being humped on the ground.
-
It doesn't fix it, no. But it's the only thing within your power to control. And both taking a break or continuing to play are feedback in themselves. The latter though is unlikely to change anything because as long as you're giving your time and/or money, nothing is likely to change because at the end of the day that's what any business wants. Your time and money. Taking both away, ie taking a break (which comes with the potential of someone staying away permanently), is still feedback. It also means you value self care, which isn't a bad thing.
-
This is the "your fun isn't my responsibility" player base. Only applies to them though of course. They don't like it when their opponent brings the same energy. And they definitely don't like it when people decide they don't want to play with them anymore. Most of the playerbase, thankfully, is normal. We have no choice but to tolerate the rest.
-
Yes, I use it. I don't know if it does anything but it's an easy way of giving feedback that takes me a second so I use it

it been 30%
They just dont include the DC'S which happen all the time. my win rate went from 45% to 40% to 35% throughout the year. My kill rate always remain at 80% but now i don't even use tactics (sometimes 3 gen still). I don't think killers are op or nothing but the matchmaking have made the solo q skill expression pointless. I play 13 games last week and in half them i took the killer on a 2 to 3 gens chases. Won 3 out of 10 because teammates die immediately. check they profile and realize i can't even blame teammates! matchmaking pairing u with people who have 100 to 300 hours vs 4 digit hours killer constantly. Literally giving them tunnel food on a silver platter. The whole meta base on capitalizing on weak links and matchmaking guarantee easy targets so pop go the weasel can infinitely proc. There's no way to carry as a Survivor cuz the killer could just drop chase but it many ways to lose off one weak survivor. Huge issue! Your skill level rarely reflect your team level in solo queue.
My experience is the same, and my escape rate has been on the same downward trajectory since update 6.1.
I like to joke that you're supposed to get more skilled at games the longer you play, but I seem to be going backward and apparently lose skill the more I play.
The matchmaking is a weird one because I feel like once upon a time I was matched up with people on my same level in solo queue. Now it feels like matchmaking purely revolves around the killer's MMR. Like the killer will ready up and the game will then put the team together and ensure it consists of a couple survivors on the killer's level and a couple on a lower level (ie the weak link/s). I could be way off but I just don't know why else so many solo survivors feel so incredibly mismatched with some of their team mates, and why a game's outcome seem to be decided by whoever gets found first - if a less experienced survivor is found, it's usually game over. More experienced survivor found first gives the team a fighting chance. But you can usually predict how a game will go early on. It never used to be like that.
-
I consider it a failure on my behalf when I'm the last one standing and I haven't been hooked once. I shouldn't be rewarded for not using my hook states to try save my team mates.
-
While I agree that survivors are increasingly getting the short end of the stick, I don't understand what about those games required letting go on hook. They could have been better approached by survivors. I always carry an EMP against Singularity specifically for vulnerable moments like unhooks. Cancel out his ability to return. Second game, in situations where a survivor goes down near a hooked team mate, I always unhook the second survivor first. Because I know the killer will immediately head back to the first. Unhooking the second means the killer will turn around and come back to the unhook, likely chase one of us, and leave the other free to go unhook the first survivor. There were better ways to play these scenarios.

On a side note isn’t it crazy how coincidental offerings can be sometimes? 2+ people bring bps- match only lasts a short while. Bring a stage offering- a counter offering is played or for a different stage etc. Funny crazy little things about this game lol
I swear certain offerings are cursed
-
I like to go for saves. On the rare occasion I haven't it's because they were a terrible team mate
-
Doubt it. Ragequitters don't care about pips, plus DC penalties apply.

I absolutely love queuing up solo and getting destroyed by an A tier killer with four slowdown perks. Then to add insult to injury he ends the game with 35K bps while the highest survivor is only at 12k. It's so much fun losing AND getting less reward for your wasted time.
It's always when you bring BPS or anniversary cakes too

She's an attractive choice for people purposely looking to make sure other people have a miserable time

Look at that smile. Nothing to worry about, he's just happy to be there

Don't bother with #2 and #3. Devs have said consistently that reports for things like flashlights/blinding, teabagging, slugging/bleeding out, aren't reportable. They just waste Support's time.
-
"we're just here for cannon fodder for the latest 2,000 killer win streak"
Pretty much, unfortunately. I have zero desire to play outside of the Rift and events. Games are successful because of the dopamine hit they give players. That's what gets people returning, the desire for more reward. The sentiment I'm seeing from survivors more and more on social media and in DBD groups is that they're not feeling rewarded for their time.
People who claim survivors should feel hopeless, that reward for their time and effort should be difficult to obtain in the face of "the power role" don't seem to understand that doesn't work in a video game setting. Imagine playing a game and trying to get through a particular level and each time it's like hitting a brick wall. How long until you lose interest? Getting rid of depips was a good move on the devs part, as it really was the cherry on the top of the mouldy cake at this point.

I've said for a long time on this forum that I don't see it often at all. When I recorded my game stats it averaged about 1 out of 12 games I'd see tunnelling. The recent Blood Moon event, i played quite a bit and didn't see a single tunneller until probably 2 days before the event ended. So 1 tunneller in that entire 2 weeks.
Having said all that, I don't think people are lying when they say they see it alot. There are different attitudes to gaming in different regions, with some regions having more competitive attitudes, others having more selfish attitudes, etc etc. So I do think it might be more prominent in some regions than in others. I also think most people tend to remember the negative more than the positive (think it's called negativity bias?). I haven't watched the video btw, this is just in response to your post. I'll watch the video shortly. It might change my thoughts.
Just expanding on my initial comment after I watched the video.
Agree with Scott that the discussion is very nuanced. Like, in general it seems to be tunnelling at 5 gens that's deemed frustrating by most, which is understandable. No one wants to queue up and not get to play. Tunnelling in late game though is deemed pretty acceptable and understandable. It's a strategy to employ when the game appears to be going in the survivors favour. So yeah, it's hard to discuss tunnelling when there's so many different interpretations and scenarios to consider.
I didn't record my games, but fwiw the longest amount of games I kept stats on is 421. I only considered tunnelling when at the start of the game, though obviously I couldn't say whether it was survivor or killer induced. But that's where I got my average of 1 in 12 games. There were some weeks where it dropped to 1 in 10, and a day here and there where it was like 1 in 5 lol but overall it averaged about 1 in 12.
The term was negativity bias, so I remembered right.
Region appeared insignificant, so guess I'll drop that one.
Time of day was interesting. Fwiw I typically play between 10am and 12pm. Give or take.
MMR could play a factor but without people knowing where they fall it's just assumptions. I also typically hear "you HAVE to tunnel at high MMR", yet I also watch presumably high MMR survivor streamers and feel like I don't see tunnelling all that often in their games either, so... who knows.

nope, no changes have been made to MMR. We adjusted the soft cap back in October / November time and nothing has been adjusted since that time.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3698546#Comment_3698546
I'd actually agree with a lot of this, The Unknown is a pretty strong killer but not the easiest to master - Otz was doing pretty well with it even on the PTB however, it seems to be a killer that he's particularly good with.
Cheers Mandy, appreciate the info. Is there currently any plans to look into matchmaking further, if you're able to share?
-
This is the reason I always supported removing depips. Because it gets to a point, particularly once you hit iri rank, where depips feel out of your control. Your experience was people letting go on hook, so through no fault of your own you missed out on unhooks and heals. People being tunnelled, so you missed out on chase, or if you were being tunnelled then chase was all you got. Other people gen-rushing, so no time to get any other objectives done. It sucks to depip through no fault of your own.

Are you saying you believe the devs adjust MMR matchmaking so that streamers can go on win streaks?
Not specifically for winstreaks, no. But no one can deny how much sway content creators seem to have. They were very unhappy with the changes, because it forced them into playing against opponents on their same level, then suddenly all their complaints stopped at once and they're now back to playing as usual without a care. Since my games feel bad/mismatched more often than not, I don't think there's anything wrong with wondering if a small percentage of players are the reason for this.

Or ...
Unknown is a really strong killer with a high skill ceiling. It's not difficult to reach high win streaks with Nurse and Blight, so ...
Most survivors not knowing how to fight against Unknown, which can be difficult to learn when you don't face many of them.
Stream snipers having given up sabotaging win streaks, bc. Otz said he won't do them anymore.
I'm not saying you are wrong with the MMR changes being reverted. I'm just saying there are alternative explanations that are also perfectly reasonable. Maybe it's a combination of all.
Sure. Could be. But I'd noted previously that the immediate uproar from content creators stopped pretty suddenly, and none of them have said a single word since about the changes that they were so heavily against because it affected their bottom line. Otz going back to win streaks kind of feels like another tick in the box.
-
I'm guessing this is confirmation that BHVR rolled back their November MMR changes? I suspected it since my games started feeling bad again after all the content creators complained. Otz said at the time he would stop doing win streaks because of the changes, and if he's back to doing them I guess the changes were rolled back.

People are gonna keep responding, "Just take time to look for them!" not realizing that it's time which killer 100% can't afford at high level. It's enough that we can't end chases quickly, but now we're expected to spend loads of time looking for people because 1 perk counters all aura perks, and gives itself a feedback loop just based off how tokens are accrued.
If you need a perk in order to remain at high level, maybe you don't belong in high level? When I think of high level players, I think of players who have near perfect game sense.

Krampus
-
I just play for events and the Rift now. I'll hop on to play the occasional game when bored but I'm quickly reminded why it's not fun to play outside of the aforementioned scenarios (mostly very little reward for my time input). It is what it is. No point forcing yourself to play, it's that whole definition of insanity thing - doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results.
-
Always be doing something. Time is valuable in a game. If you're spending it just crouched in a corner then you're giving time to the killer. It's one of the reasons I've been enjoying running Empathy lately. The amount of injured team mates I see not doing anything because they don't want to do anything while injured surprised me. First chance I get I run over and heal them, and then they'll rejoin the game.
-
Sure. And likewise it's difficult playing survivor against strong killers. Matchmaking needs an overhaul IMO, because too often games either steamroll one way or the other with very little middle ground.

whats the point of being here if no one is constructive and serious. im not saying survivors cant hide but it will take longer to find hiding survivors. havent u ever played killer?
People are being serious. DBD has been around for 8 years and UW only 6 months. If you feel you won't be able to play without UW then chances are you've become overly reliant on it. It happens alot to players, both killers and survivors, who use certain perks for too long and then feel they won't be able to function without them. It's actually the reason i frequently change my builds up. As someone else said, game sense quickly kicks back in.
-
That would take the fun out of scratched mirror Myers though
-
How did people do it pre-Sept 2023?
-
When you're injured and on death hook, and see your team mate who hasn't even been hooked once and instead of running in to take a hit they run off. That's probably my biggest pet peeve in this game

BHVR can see who the actual players are on their end. It doesn't matter if their name is hidden behind anon mode. The biggest issue with the system is submitting video evidence as a support ticket as that is just an unnecessary hurdle for many players.
If you reported the player in the end game match, they can look up the match via the report as well.
It's definitely a hurdle we could do without, but on the flipside I understand that alot of players report for silly stuff and take up so much of Support's time that it's probably not as easy as we think it is. The fact that BHVR have had to emphasise repeatedly that camping, tunnelling, slugging, teabagging, looping, etc, are not reportable, shows the sorts of reports that are clogging up their system.

Dowsey quit like year+ ago and his reasons from what I rememeber watching his video about it is pretty outdated, game didn't even have UI for Survivors, many QoL stuff and SM before rework was horrible. Then we got many new good killers etc. I don't know why he is there when this is so far away from the other two and not related at all.
So 2 CC talk about having break from DbD oh no... End of times for sure.
Yeah I'd be interested to know how Dowsey feels about being used for clickbait. He no longer associates with DBD at all. I tune into his Dark and Darker streams, and he doesn't seem to appreciate when people bring up DBD at all.

Yes but if they set all the turrets up there and stayed at shack, I'm not sure they were unfindable. I could be wrong, I didn't see the match. It sounds like they were just trying to be annoying.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3696560#Comment_3696560
See, I'm not sure how the developers see this though. It would be nice if maybe @Peanits could chime in. To me, seeing teammates crouch hiding behind objects and not doing anything is also annoying. Or someone doing tomes, chest, or totems but not touching gens. But these are not bannable or considered griefing as far as I know.
Someone taking all the turrets and using them to hide out at shack is selfish and would also be annoying. But not really any different than the former if they are doing it for survival.
Im sure they were doing it as you said, to be annoying. As well as going out of the way to do it. But in the unlikely event they were doing it to ensure their own survival, would it still be griefing?
I'm not trying to say what they did was right by any means. There just seems to be no clear definitions with what is what in this game or what is considered normal gameplay.
My other big question is how did they manage to get and keep all the turrets there before anyone else could place or take any?
I guess because playing stealthy, and doing tomes, chests, totems, etc, isn't necessarily done with the intention of annoying your team mates. Those things earn you individual emblem points as they're still objectives. I get what you're saying, that it can be hard to determine intent, but i'd liken this scenario to someone running around the map dropping every pallet. They know those are useful to their team, and there's no good reason to take them out of the equation unless you were going out of your way to ensure every one had a bad time.

Yes, actually. When you play as Hag (given that was the example) you know you are in a bad place if you go against four flashlights so you dodge if you don't want the challenge.
That's way better than destroying her by making everybody able to destroy traps easily.
Have you noticed we never get Michi videos anymore? It feels like even the best Hag out there has given up.
And about taking a break playing the same game over and over. If DbD wasn't getting neutered I could play thousands more hours without getting bored.
I only stop playing games that are changing for the worst.
I'm pretty sure I'm not unique in that.
You can't destroy Hag traps with flashlights anymore. Just letting you know in case you're dodging teams with flashlights.
Edit: just realized you're OP, so you'd know that. You confused me by talking in present tense.
-
Yeah it's been theorised that Doctor's low kill rate is because of these bot killers. I remember thinking if that's true then it must be really bad to affect the kill rates to such an extent, and apparently it really is that bad. I did think though that BHVR made the killer automatically DC after x-amount of time AFK? Unless they rolled that back? They need to make it so these bots end up with nothing every time they try
-
The attitude of content creators in general has changed dramatically. Being a survivor main myself, I like to watch survivor main streamers but most of the ones I follow have either switched to mostly killer or gone 50/50. Some are starting to split their streams between DBD and other games. The latter have repeatedly said they worry about losing viewers and money by doing this, which makes me wonder how many others stick around because they feel they have to for financial reasons. There's a very popular killer main content creator I used to subscribe to a couple years back but stopped when he clearly started to hate the game. His negativity seeped into his chat and I couldn't stand being in there anymore. I imagine if not for the money he makes he'd have been long gone too.
-
@Moonras2 said:
Im honestly not sure on this. I don't think there is any rule that can really apply unless the devs decide it can. It definitely isn't holding the game hostage if they could be killed and you knew they were there. I don't know how it could qualify as griefing either. There are no rules that say survivors have to play as a team or save resources for the others.
I'm also not sure what constitutes as normal gameplay. I want to say that I know but if it requires doing gens, helping teammates, etc... Then half the solo queue teammates I get paired with would be banned for hiding in corners all game or going for flashlight/sabo saves.
"Griefing," in the context of gaming, is when someone goes out of their way to annoy other players. Taking all turrets and creating your own shack fortress falls under that, IMO.
-
I think you can report as griefing. Dude has way too much time on his hands
-
@sinkra said:
Killer main streamers are still telling devs the game is survivor sided, more killer buffs on the way. The devs think they're making the game more fun for killers by doing this but it just makes killer boringly easy.
They need more content for their YouTube channels. They certainly don't upload the games where they lose so of course they complain.
-
I think he's one of those killers that team cooperation is necessary to face. Kind of like needing your team to place turrets against Xeno, you need your team mates to help dispel hallucinations. I get rid of every hallucination I come across, particularly any near where a team mate is being chased. They'll also usually use their power in spots where they're likely to hit you, so it helps to try be unpredictable. Like if you're running directly at a pallet or window you know that's likely where he is aiming, so last second dodging can help. Won't always work of course but that's the nature of mind games
-
I think it comes down to what MMR bracket you fall into that determines which killers you see more. I (personally) don't think the Unknown would perform that well against experienced survivors, as they can dodge or shake his weakness off alot easier than less experienced survivors could. So I think the higher you go up in MMR, the less you'll probably see him. Just my opinion anyway.
-
I just focus on the gens that I want to get done. There's no point worrying about what gens my team mates are doing because obviously I can't read their minds lol on Dead Dawg I tend to hit the gallows one first. I've noticed spawns happening in the middle of the street too lately, so I'll hit that one provided I can rope at least one other survivor into helping me. It's suicide to do it alone. If the killer comes and chases one of us, then the other can still hit the gen.
-
@I_CAME said:
Problem is two things.
1 . Matchmaking is terrible and produces a huge amount of mismatches. These usually favor the killer since there are four survivors and a high chance that at least one will be bad.
2. The amount of broken things you can still bring. If you bring four slowdowns on a strong killer and tunnel at five gens then no ordinary team will have a chance. Only a coordinated SWF really has a chance and we know those aren't incredibly common. Matchmaking is more likely to put players like this against casuals in my experience.
The solution is obviously to make matchmaking more strict for people with higher MMR. Let's say in the top 20% or so. This way they can't ruin the game for everyone else. Behavior refuses to do this for whatever reason.
"Matchmaking is terrible and produces a huge amount of mismatches. These usually favor the killer since there are four survivors and a high chance that at least one will be bad"
Happy to be proven wrong on this, but it feels like teams are based around the killer's MMR now. Killer readies up and the game then finds them half a team that is in a lower MMR bracket, and half a team that is in the same bracket. Explains why games feel increasingly like the outcome can be determined early game depending on who is found first. If one of the less experienced survivors is found first the game can snowball, if one of the more experienced survivors is found first then there stands a chance for gens to get done. It explains why survivors are noticing how mismatched they seem to be to some of their team mates. The game doesn't seem to take the individual survivor MMRs into account when creating teams.
-
They tend to take a wait and see approach first, usually for several months if perk changes over the last couple years are anything to go by. Plus if the pickrate is low then it might not get addressed at all since they'd probably prefer time and resources go towards changes that affect a larger percentage of the playerbase (they have limited bandwidth per update). Stakeout + Hyperfocus was another combo that was always complained about, but the pickrate was something like 1% which is probably why they never did anything.
-
I always assumed 30s.
-
Can try reporting them. At this point they're trying to outlast each other. It's obviously a massive waste of everyone's time.
-
That dab though lol love it
-
I didn't get this question. IMO I got way too many questions about killers considering I selected that I mostly play survivor. I would have preferred to give feedback on the survivor experience.
-
I was watching her last night, was curious to see her reaction to new Twins. 11 minute match for like 8k bloodpoints for the survivors lol that would suck if it were in a live game
