  • I play both. More survivor overall, but plenty of killer (especially when queues are struggling for survivor). Can't imagine playing one solidly much more, you miss out on so much!

  • Honestly I rarely have time to play at the moment. So not much of a sample size of games, but:

I have much more fun as killer nowadays (despite playing survivor more, in the past), mainly because solo queue games can and usually are completely unfun. DCs or people just playing as if they've never touched a video game before makes it really dull, I suppose it does make getting good teams and making plays even more satisfying but that is rare.

As killer, yes I think the game is fun. I float around purple ranks due to lack of playing, so my experience will be different to red rank killers, but personally I have decent games a majority of the time. I consider a 2k or higher a win for me, and prioritise fun over the stats themselves (using meme builds, messing around a bit) so that might be why I enjoy it more than more competition oriented players.

So as a whole, I have more fun as killer than I do as survivor. It's not actively unfun, but if I have bad teams a few times in a row I'll just swap game, not even motivated by rift progress anymore. I think there is room to change mechanics to make the game more fun for everyone.

  • In my opinion, Kate would make the best protagonist with the lore we currently have. I say that because of her direct interactions with the entity (her initial escape from capture in her tome, and then her lore itself where she was directly kidnapped). Her description as a 'ray of sunshine' and 'bolt of lightning', along with her perks demonstrate her willpower and as such I think she'd be good as the main protagonist.

Felix and Elodie (The Pariahs duo) could also be very interesting, and I wonder if in fact the other pariahs will be added as survivors (or killers?) eventually. There is certainly more to be explored there.

  • It is still speculation at the end of the day, the leaks site that 'announced' the chapter being LGBT for sure doesn't seem to have any actual source.

I think people are speculating that it is, mainly because this chapter seems to be getting more teasing beforehand than the previous few chapters. Something getting teased alot is usually something the devs will know people are looking forward to, and many fans have been eagerly anticipating lgbt rep for a while now, since it was promised to be a topic the devs won't avoid (during last pride month).

Having said this, there is already at least one LGBT character in the game and there has been for a while (MCOTE made a tweet confirming this was said, in 2019) but nothing has actually been revealed lore wise yet. That is why people are hoping that is what the chapter reveal will include, since it'll be a first for dbd canon.

  • Agreed, and although he does have a Christmas sweater, as you mentioned it's practically just a rugby jersey. I use it year round because of that (although that doesn't stop me using Jeff's sweater either haha). I do agree he should get one, and I hope he will receive something next Christmas! He did get a Blight skin this year at least.

  • In a game with so many diverse survivors at it is, at least one of them is likely to be gay. In fact, I'm fairly certain at one point in the past the developers confirmed that an existing character was already gay. For people who ask 'Why does it matter?' :

Did it matter when David was confirmed to have an ex girlfriend?

Did you care when Ace was referred to as a womaniser?

Were you questioning Dwight's implied crush on his female co-worker?

Did you hate Julie and Frank's relationship?

How did you react to Felix's straight romance?

Odds are, you didn't care. Understandably, because it's just an additional aspect of a character. The (straight) romance is arguably the biggest theme of Legion's lore! So then why does the simple confirmation or inclusion of a LGBT character become such an issue? Following the pride month announcement, threads questioning why exactly a LGBT character should be introduced have been popping up constantly. My response to it is, why not? At this point, BHVR keeps having decent enough opportunities to add in some inclusion, and keep it out, which is why alot of people are now more passionately asking for some. For one example, perhaps Nea's environmentalist friend could have been a girlfriend, as surely the huge bearing she had on Nea's worldview would have made more sense.

Making an existing character LGBT will likely happen in a tome, and I doubt it will even be a huge aspect of that specific tome. But to many, that representation will be super impact, and that is the point. Even if a new character is LGBT, obviously that won't be their only character trait, and if you think as such then that says alot about your personal views. People see Felix as an architect, not the man who was about to settle down with his girlfriend, so if an LGBT character were to be added it would be no different.

  • To look cool / cute, considering the mileage I've gotten out of this game I'm willing to spend some money on it now and again. For rift I typically wait until I know I can reach tier 70 and get my money back, though admittedly I'm not that interested by the end of this current one and can't play as much anyway so might buy it a bit early.

With skins I only buy specific pieces unless there is a deal on auric cells price and I really want it, which has only happened once (Shirtless David). My favourite I have bought is Jeff's scarlet swarm manbun, I never use any of his other headpieces now! If I can earn a cosmetic for shards I will, rather than spending premium currency.

  • I'm not sure about voice acting, but I wish we did get more (or any quite frankly) interactions between survivors in the written lore. The closest we had was the old descriptions of survivors when they released, as it at least gave us more of an insight. I would love some of the survivors to develop more canon friendships or rivalries, with lore to back it up.

Perhaps at some point they will add some sort of chat feature for solo players to communicate, which would be a good way to bring personalities into gameplay like you mentioned. Each character's greeting there, for example, could be personal to them, and that would open up specific interactions too if they bump into a certain style. Perhaps one of the survivors would recognise Jane and be starstruck, as one idea. It would definitely make survivors feel like a bit more than just a skin.

  • Thank you for this! After reading I wonder why Felix wasn't used alongside Elodie in the trailer, seeing as they knew eachother. Either way super interesting and I like all the small references littered throughout both of the lores!

  • I think the fact it includes so many mobile skins makes it a bit of a letdown, despite most of them actually being okay it still feels like a dissapointment. I agree the fact that Clown and Adam don't have lore is so frustrating, their cosmetics are actually good imo (I love Clowns!) but having no lore despite having challenges related to them is so saddening and certainly not a good sign for the future tomes.

  • Assuming their perks stay, I've gotta say Meg. People who play her tend to be more inclined to make silly moves in my experience! Also, she gets so many cosmetics I think some others could use some love.

If perks don't stay, probably Ace. I actually like him but his are probably some of the worst. Steve is also on thin ice in this scenario.

  • I think last year the serum currency only appeared when the rift opened, despite the cosmetics releasing earlier. I am still hoping this is the case this year!

  • I play 50/50 and I like all of their content for the most part, but sometimes they can be a bit too cheeky for my personal tastes (Like item teching to get something from a solo teammate). I like trying out tips or builds they share sometimes and likewise watching them gives good heads ups on what survivors might be trying out currently (I knew about the map tech and could counter it as killer because I saw a video on it beforehand)

In my experience a lot of people who try and imitate those youtubers (at least on XBOX) aren't actually that good and can be caught off guard easily enough. I admit I do turn crossplay off when I play killer unless queues are terrible because of the inherit advantage PC players have over console, and I agree I feel bad when I see 4 pc survivors on stream really teasing a console killer.

  • I thought some killer's breathing had seemed to get alot louder lately (Trapper and Wraith most noticeably for me), I am not surprised that has now spread to others now too, even if unintended. Maybe Spirit used Stridor so much she started unconsciously copying the louder breathing of survivors! Whatever the reason I hope it gets looked at in due time but I think it will be low priority.

  • I agree with desperate measures and botany combo, or alternatively bring inner strength

If you do want to rely on others for healing then I would suggest Leader, it is very versatile and I have found it pretty useful recently.

  • It kind of would, as others have said. But getting that first hit to apply it each time can prove tricky when the OoO user has prime opportunity to position themselves well. Certainly worth trying out!

  • I think it should work anywhere balanced landing triggers. Falling down the basement stairs got me progress, for example. Drops on haddonfield, the game and hawkins should work reliably too if you fancy using an offering to go there.

  • For survivors I like to use fitting charms where possible. So for David I like to use the knuckle dusters and chibi, for Zarina the camera (even though it was Jane's originally) and for Jake the plant. If it blend with the outfit well I like to use it also, so for Jeff's camo pants I like to use the tree of life, brand new part and plant.

As killer I sometimes go with what I think the killer would like! For example I use the nurse's horse charm on clown and billy, because billy grew up on a farm and clown has his horse Maurice, so they both get reminders of their past. I try and use kinda obscure and related ones, or similar to you the respective killers charms ( like Discordance + Speaker for legion), but for some killers that can give a bit of info away so I don't do it for all of them.

  • Survivor:

    Kindred

Spine Chill (I pretty much run it all the time atm anyway)

    Resillience

    We'll make it

    Killer:

    Whispers

Unrelenting (I keep missing hits on console because of lag so it would help)

    Spies from the shadows

    Iron Grasp

  • Depends on the time, I've been switching on crossplay early hours of the morning since queues then become pretty long. I will say that when the killer is dodging your lobby it can take way longer to find another one, since they tend to get paired with you again and again. (As survivior)

As killer, seems tolerable regardless of the time from my experience!

  • Honestly I thought the golden crows were part of the anniversary event! The changes do certainly make calm spirit more useful.

  • Nurse because I play on console with poor frame rate. Similarly I also dislike Billy because I stutter while revving my chainsaw and then the survivor vanishes.

  • David - Free so was my first survivor, cool cosmetics (shirtless 😳), from England like me, I like his lore and personality.

Jeff - Cool cosmetics and great lore + characterisation. I actually don't like his default beard (bad Jeff main, I know) because of how it looks on Xbox so I run his Scarlet Swarm headpiece all the time.

I do kinda play different survivors depending on the current tome and how I feel though! Recently Bill, Claudette and Ace have been rotated alongside my mains and with the new tome I'll play Ace even more.

  • My favourite Ace cosmetics are definitely the tuxedo and pilot, I think he has some ok ones but they're a bit boring for the most part. I just bought his beard cosmetic and I'm liking it, and in the headpiece area I think he has a good assortment. His patterned torso (purple w/ cards from one of the rifts and a flamingo one too I think?) are neat as well.

Overall I agree that for the most part his cosmetics are disappointing, or at least not great as full sets. I wish his tuxedo would get a recolour since I personally don't love his default outfits.

  • I personally really liked the most recent David cosmetic and the Jeff one too. Shame that it released with a black hole in the torso (I think the most recent Meg cosmetic had that too), so hopefully they fix that next patch. I agree that the quality is getting so much better, using the headpieces alone and comparing default skins to recent is such a huge improvement in quality. I would highlight Jeff's Scarlet Swarm man bun for this, his beard looks so fluffy haha.

  • From what we've seen in the video, I'm looking forward to the David, Zarina, Wraith and Meg cosmetics the most. Ace's torso seems decent (and maybe the pants if they have something cool on them? At least better than the defaults) and idk what I think about Hag's stuff yet, will have to see it in game. It's unfortunate that Meg is the one getting a character charm and not Ace. Hopefully the outfit recolours / single pieces will be cool too, I have been quite impressed with those in past rifts.

  • Dark Sense - Jeff

     Déjà Vu - Adam

     Hope - Kate

     Kindred - Claudette

     Lightweight - Meg

No One Left Behind - Bill

     Plunderer's Instinct - Ace

     Premonition - Jake

     Resilience - Feng Min

     Slippery Meat - Ace

     Small Game - Tapp

Spine Chill - Nea (She loves cats, of course!)

This Is Not Happening - Dwight

    We'll Make It - David

  • A survey released after Pyramid Head asked players feedback about the struggle phase and changing it to skill checks like being in a cage on 2nd stage - so they are seemingly considering it. I really hope they do change it soon because button spamming really sucks and bad connections / lag spike issues are causing people to die when struggling.

  • Agreed, especially with the silent downed survivor bug I sometimes have a last survivor that I cannot spot whatsoever. For them and the benefit of myself in similar situations as survivor, I think this would be a good feature. They could just call it 'Lose Hope' and make it award the killer the same points as a hook would.

  • Probably Doc combined with Legion or Freddy. Having said that, I reckon if they ever did 2 killers teamed up they would probably have presets of some sort.

  • Make default survivor outfits + Prestige a set to easily equip them all at once. Alongside the potential of some custom slots!

  • I've recently been using:

For The People - Helping out slugs, or getting an injured teammate to healthy when you know the killer is on their way and they are closer to death hook.

Iron Will - Helps you to hide after using FTP, indirectly helps the team as you don't need to be healed even when broken status goes away and can focus on others.

Spine Chill - Could be swapped but I really like it solo against stealth killers, helps inform when to use FTP in a crucial moment or if you can get the heal off beforehand.

Inner Strength or Dead Hard - Inner Strength so people don't spend time healing you, and helping prevent NOED. Dead Hard for the time when you are broken to defend yourself, especially good if the killer is instadown since FTP allows you to use dead hard and takes away the vulnerability of being healthy.

I like the combination of self / team perks as a solo queue player. But I'm still experimenting with For The People builds since I recently unlocked Zarina with shards!

  • I'd be satisfied with just +1 carry base kit honestly, would allow for cool addon combos since now not bringing a bag is pretty much a hindrance. AS for starting with all his traps I think that'd make it just a little easy to immediately lock down 3 gens at the start, so instead I would just tweak his trap spawn places. Key loops / gyms should mainly have them rather than a random hill in the corner, so it isn't too much of a chore to get use out of them all.

  • I agree, this is pretty frustrating. I've noticed that when people unhook themselves in front of someone, that other person can start the heal immediately, so it is a bit confusing.

  • Plague (Never go against her)

    +

Zarina (Rarely see her, apart from occasionally in her newest skin)

  • As Frank, I like to spare Jeffs because I imagine they recognise each other from when the mural was commissioned. The Legion even uses Jeff's stolen sketchbook as an addon!

  • Glad the rift has to stretch out the rewards over 70 tiers so those cosmetics very likely won't be locked sets! Perhaps these cosmetics are to indirectly encourage more rift pass sales and thus a more active player base?

Personally I dislike the sets, apart from the licensed cosmetics. Even then it'd be a shame if new stranger things cosmetics, for example, can't be mix and matched. I'm looking forward to seeing what they'll do with the feature, but I still doubt I'll buy them unless they have a cool set for shards.

  • I've heard others saying spawn rates for them have been low - but it should still be possible. Mystery boxes might hold them too! If all else fails, you could try chest builds to find them in match and hopefully escape with them?

  • I think it could be changed to be rewarded to survivors for repairing the equivalent of 1 gen or something similar. Would solve the problem of people hiding with keys all game while making the goal more doable for solo.

  • Considering they float so far behind the headpiece I can't think of any head cosmetics they would actually collide with - I'm all for this! Also I just dislike the default headpiece of some survivors and prefer the alternates.

  • From my understanding, the other event items were released for all due to save data issues which meant that many people who had actually owned the items were missing them - so they released them for everyone. Assuming their new storage system does not fail in the future, there will be no reason to give away the crowns as nobody who has earned them will be missing them.

  • Agreed, this tome in particular has had alot of bland challenges which are gained over a large number of matches. Having said that, tome 2 did as well (almost all openers were get 5 emblems in certain categories iirc) so it's nothing new.

Level 3 this time had loads of annoying killer challenges and level 4 is kinda the same. Not a fan of scaling up challenges between levels like the co-op action challenge, it gets boring. The 'in one trial' challenges tend to be my favourite, and in this regard I would say this tome has not been too bad. Compared to tome 1's dark sense challenge and basement challenge, which I got really lucky for, these ones have been quite good. I actually enjoyed the Huntress one and I appreciate the change from 'get a 4k with the featured killers', to using their perks and getting a 3k + utilise their power. My main issues this level 4 are the legion 5 frenzy hits (There wasn't even a challenge for 4, which would still be difficult but easier) and also the Dwight challenge. Especially since Dwight's animations are bugged atm, playing him while ducking and dodging nearby combined with escape was not great.

  • Hopefully exclusively for licenses that are particularly stingy with their rights, or understandably legendary skins. Mix and matching is the best part of cosmetics and taking that away for original character outfits is a bad idea.

  • Honestly I normally run Iron Will so I only get healed when I stumble across teammates unless I have a medkit with me. I sometimes bring Inner Strength if the character doesn't have Iron Will or I'm doing a locker build.

  • I heard some people reporting his animations and sounds are messed up this patch, so that might be the reason why.

  • Freddy can bring me into the dream world which means I'm safe from the other killers anyway, and then he can bring Nea and Billy into the dream world too so I have some company!

  • Raise kobe chance so people can't kill themselves on hook 😎

In all seriousness, if camping is punished without impacting bloodpoints then hook suicide shouldn't either. Make it an emblem punishment or something. Or perhaps rework hooks entirely, cannot attempt escape without certain perks / offerings (luck addons, deliverance, slippery meat) and make second stage skill checks like pyramid head cages.

  • I'm sorry that you're feeling like that, unfortunately that's kinda one of the aims of the battlepass - to stress people out and feel like they're missing out, so they buy tiers at the end. I can understand that you're feeling pressured, but try and put things into perspective if you can.

You said you're not worried about getting all the characters cosmetics in the store, and while there is a pressure to do that in the rift, at the end of the rifts they're listed in the same count as other cosmetics in the store. If you look at it that way you're not missing out on something completely different - but instead just one of the cosmetics for a character which you wouldn't have them all anyway. I believe the devs have said in the past that rift skins will eventually be available in the store as well, so in that case you haven't missed them forever.

Also I would suggest perhaps holding off on purchasing the rift pass each time until you feel you've gotten where you want! I personally wait until I hit tier 70 before I purchase, to ensure I earn all my currency back. That also makes it better if you don't reach the end, since you haven't invested any money. It makes the rift less of a commitment and more of a challenge, and gives you more control in a sense.

I hope this helps somewhat and I really hope your experience improves in the future!

  • This seems to be the theme with addons for quite a few killers, Hag as well is a noticable one. Brown - green are buffs to different aspects and then red and purple mostly change how things function or offer completely unique effects. Unfortunately the effects chosen for most of Pyramid Head's addons aren't the strongest so it doesn't work as well.

  • Dwight and David

    Kate and Jeff

    Claudette and Jake
