  • "The Evil Within" draws the most excitement for me, with Stefano and Obscura as a joint-working killer tandem. That would be my dream.

All of them have good potential and, if I could choose a second and third, it would be Alan Wake and Bioshock respectively. As a side, I could see Alan Wake as a chapter, with Alan Wake as the survivor and Mr. Scratch as the killer.

  • Twin Peaks would be great! Having agent Cooper in the lobby screen with a mug, ranting on about this being the best damn cup of coffee he's ever had, would be entertaining. BOB could be a frightening killer - he was very eeiry when I first saw him.

I know very little about Phantasmagoria to make an opinion, but if it's horror then sure!

Speaking of "Phantasmagoria", if we're looking at old games of that era, how about "Sanitarium", "I have no mouth and I must scream" (I know it was a story too), "Harvester" or "Dark Seed"?

  • Both could work! Considering recently we've had changes in character designs to play with sizes and shapes (Xenomorph, Victor, Sadako, Chucky, HUX, Naughty Bear) and others, there's a lot of possibilities opening themselves up. With it, hopefuly more exciting powers as well.

  • Ham-man Carter

    The Hagster

    The Hamstermind

    Crispleaf Hamaranth

    Hamotated Blueprint

  • It's hard to feel something is unfair without a personal belief, yet in your defence bias can be truthful also.

For me, I feel the biggest example of unfairness in the game is the matchmaking. It is a hard obstacle to deal with and - to be reasonable - the devs have made attempts at trying to balance it better. Unfortunately, it still suffers from some very dubious matchups. New players suddenly find themselves in a battlefield of hardened swfs against an omnipotent Nurse. Likewise, a veteran suddenly finds themself leading new recruits against a Myers who hasn't understood how to stalk and yet they all die anyway. It can be problematic.

I'm not saying that BHVR hasn't tried at all. I'd say they've done a decent job of it, but they're balancing the unbalanceable and, by the very nature of the matchmaking and game, it will remain unfair at times.

  • Also, I'd add Ash to the list of voicelines and actually Bill too (he had some good lines during L4D).

Freddy could so with some though, agreed.

  • He absolutely would be a fantastic addition and he has some great ideas for perks that could be added!

As rough examples: a perk that heals whilst under the lights of a completed generator; an improved flashlight which knocks back killers as well as blinds then; a flare which, when placed, has a small radius where a killer cannot use its powers or perks whilst it is lit

There are quite a few with huge potential.

  • Pyramid Head's power is still pretty good, but he absolutely needs an add-on overhaul because most of his current add-ons are fairly uninspiring.

I'm sure they'll come back and review at some stage. In the meantime, out of all the licenses, the early Myers and Freddy killers are in a more desperate state.

  • Elvira may be an unusual fit. Someone who made their livelihood within the horror era and an icon of the 80s within the industry. Could do way worse than Elvira!

  • I'll be completely honest: Some way back I was fairly confident Chucky wouldn't fit in and felt it would be too silly. However, recently I've been more open and especially with how the PTB is going he's certainly a very fun addition.

For me, he still has the scare factor of My Little Pony, but DBD doesn't need to be all about horror as much and a sense of humour is needed. Having all killers dark and brooding makes the game rather one-dimensional and different things scare different people, so variety is always good.

  • Killer: The Mannequin

    a58100847bd1ee3c491d42466ec88806.jpg

Power: A number of mannequins are placed around the map and the killer takes the role of one of them. The killer can teleport and control the other mannequins, or do an instant switch to view through the eyes of a mannequin (teleporting to it takes time, like Dredge). Both actions have cooldowns. Each move, successful hit or hook powers the mannequin up. There are 2 events

Special Event 1: At this event, all mannequins start moving. They move randomly, but if a survivor gets too close they'll target the survivor and chase at "zombie" pace. Once Event 1 has finished, the power resets.

Special Event 2: All mannequins become animated, but walk faster. However, they will not attack. Instead, all survivors take the form of the mannequin. Survivors cannot emote, crouch or do any action which makes them different to the killer. When doing an action in this form, they still do the action but just look as if they are standing there. The power then resets and it goes back to setting up for Event 1 and continues the cycle.

  • This is a tight one. Honestly, if either appeared in a trial I'd be looking forward to it, but Demo has a bit more variety for me so takes it ... just.

  • Anything can happen so long as the other side is agreeing to it. If BHVR wanted, we could a survivor team of Detective Frank Drebin (Naked Gun), Xander Harris (Buffy), Kim Possible (epon.), and Dr Frasier Crane (epon.) trying to survive first one trial against Finn Kelly (Neighbours), another against Scarecrow (Batman), and a final match against Randy Orton (WWE).

Obviously, not likely the above, but they have the ability to spread out as much as they wish, providing the license holder agrees. With the recent additions, I think they may be ready to stretch out beyond the typical horror bubble. We'll see, but the future looks good.

  • They definitely deserve better than they get. The recent few weeks with Naughty Bear (and new "visceral" skin options coming in), the return of "Stranger Things" and now Chucky entering the fray has been a decent set of wins.

Oddly, the "Stranger Things" return has renewed my interest a fair bit, probably because with it it brought back the nostalgia of that time from then to "Silent Hill" which was an absolute golden age for BHVR. I'm hoping they'll continue in this more fun direction because this is what does work.

  • I like how the third person perspective isn't just for convenience, but also makes sense when the survivor is picked up and you're now in the first person as the ghost of Charles. It's as if Charles is possessing the doll and is pulling the strings from behind, which fits in with his lore and also adds something new for killer.

  • @SleepyLunatic said:

Will the ptb gonlive today tho?

I imagine it should be. The release for the chapter is due November and they need to get the PTB out, gain feedback amd then release it.

  • I wonder whether Chucky will have a rather different power in-game, rather than a little doll running about. I did wonder if the killer uses voodoo to manipulate Chuckies about the map to kill survivors. A bit like a puppet master. It would feel a bit like The Twins, so not sure. It'll be interesting - if it is Chucky - to see how it goes.

The other exciting thing is that killers have been played around a bit in terms of models recently. Singularity, Xenomorph ... of Chucky gets involved, then they clearly are innovating killer designs beyond a human appearance, so it could open a lot of doors for future killers.

  • Definitely looking more like Chucky!

I've changed my tune a bit. A while back I was against Chucky coming in because back then I thought it was too silly.

Now, I'm cheering over Naughty Bear and a bit more light-hearted, so I'm kinda looking forward to it! The cornfield maps are going to be a bastard to deal with, trying to find a bloody killer doll though!

But hang on...The knife is the same knife Norman bates used in Psycho. The chair is what he sat on to take a breather. The chase music is the iconic pyscho screeching. we know BHVR like washing machine chase music... looking at you Ghostface and the "Big L" is the L BHVR takes by having a normal man as a killer XD

But seriously though the knife is a generic kitchen knife. Seen in many horror films and isn't even the main weapon for chucky.

No i have never seen the chucky films but doing a quick google of "Chucky Knife" it points towards a smaller style of knife is used and i believe the standard kitchen knife is only used in one film out of all of them. It looks like Chucky uses whatever comes to hand and according to the articles I read he only ever ended 1 person with a knife and used guns, axes and so on.

the chair is..well i dont know. we see the very top of what looks like a chair thats it. also doesn't show the direction of the chair. Whos to say the chair isnt facing the wall and whatever killer used it simply sat in the chair pondering the weapon of choice. I think its a bit of a stretch to say its used purely by chucky to reach the knives.

As for the PTB. who knows whats going to happen. The trickster rework looks like it shouldn't be a thing just making trickster basicly a god killer given the insane buff he gets. whos to say BHVR isn't trolling us and comes out tomorrow saying "woops did we say trickster sorry about that we meant myers". Now yeah i know its unlikely but just saying XD.

Regarding the Big L i have to admit i didn't see the post relating to this. Was it called "Big L" or was the L in licenced capitalized. If its just Licensed with a capital L in a tweet then it could mean anything. if they called it "Big L" then as gamers we have to agree that this will be a loser killer right XD.

As you said no one truly knows until tomorrow and if it is a chucky chapter more power to BHVR for it. Im sure regardless it will be another chapter that is played like crazy on release then very quickly majority go back to their prefered killers after like a month.

quick edit: Never said a second killer of myers but a rework. not sure where you got "another version of myers" from

Oh, by "another version of Myers" I got from the idea of the PTB introducing a new killer and - if that was Myers - having a second one sounds odd. It wasn't saying that was mentioned, moreover making a comment that a promo for a new killer would be more likely than an update for an existing one. It seems Trickster is the next on BHVR's list anyway.

Also, I do get the humour your showing so please don't see this as pedantic, but looking at the shape of the knife and handle bears more resemblence to Chucky than Bates' weapon and such. However, as I mentioned earlier, it could easily be Myers having a sitdown after a hard day's murdering.

However it is, I'm looking forward to whatever it may be tomorrow. BHVR may have sidestepped us all!

  • For a laugh, I'm putting some builds based on the classes that you could play as in "The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion". Obviously, I've tried to adjust the builds to work at more than killing monsters and bartering for goods, but here are 4 I've done so far:

Acrobat: The kind of person who uses agility and endurance to their advantage. Unafraid of jumping long distances.

Perks: Balanced Landing, Cut Loose, Vigil, Resilience

Agent: Charming when they can be seen, and nearly invisible when in shadow.

Perks: Friendly Competition, Urban Evasion, Situational Awareness, Teamwork: Collective Stealth

Archer: A marksman, adept at combat at great distances. Able to take down most foes before they have a chance to draw sword.

Perks: Residual Manifest, Streetwise, Technician, Hyperfocus

Assassin: Nimble and quick, they move in the darkness to strike the unsuspecting. Locks hold no doors shut to them.

Perks: Background Player, Light-footed, Appraisal, Quick and Quiet

  • It feels like DBD are targetting bigger licenses for bigger returns, which makes good business sense and also is a good way of bringing in/ bringing back players.

However, no doubt smaller horror franchises will enter the world of DBD. Those indie titles you mentioned have good candidates and there are mediums such as Podcasts, anime, books and such which all have great potential. I'd be absolutely thrilled if "The Magnus Archives" ever appeared, although I feel that would benefit the podcast more than DBD (although some of the power ideas could be very unique - including the perfect alternative shape-shifting idea!).

Some will hopefully come in future. There is no shortage of good antagonists out there. Not to mention the amount of unique ideas abound for original content!

  • It's plausible. However, there are a few decent clues that this may be Chucky:

    1. The knife. You rightly say the knife matches the weapon Myers has. It's also the weapon that Chucky used. Comparing the knife to images online match exactly to the shadow.

    2. There is a chair just below. This indicates whoever needed the knife also needed some help in getting it. Judging by Chucky's height, he would need a chair. Myers would not (unless he was tired and needed a sit down).

    3. The PTB is due imminently and they were introducing a "big L". Having another version of Myers as the new character doesn't make sense as he's already in it and this new chapter will be a new killer. This ought to eliminate Myers.

However, nobody will truely know until tomorrow. We may all be wrong! However, the strength of the picture and timing alone so far suggests a strong tie to Chucky.

You really shouldn't be posting things like this without any knowledge of what actually happened to facilitate its return.

My take is it had more to do with $$$ than anything else.

ST also returned to Fortnite, does that mean everyone should sing praises of Epic for it?

I feel it's perfectly fine for me to post what I did. A collective implies the community, the business and everything else. It's false to suggest one could do it without the other, so I stand by it (with the exception that the community did more than I implied).

Also, I said "I feel", implying it's my thought process and not absolute fact. I don't see the problem in expressing an opinion. This is what forums are for.

  • I'm going for Chucky for the afore-mentioned reasons. That knife is absolutely the type of knife he used and - in line with the silly sense of humour - Chucky needs a chair to reach it. After Naughty Bear arrived, I'm more okay with Chucky coming in.

Not saying you're wrong, however it does seem like the community did play a big role in it's return according to the Stranger Things Writers account.

I may have understated the community involvement. Yet, as you implied, this wasn't just something the community did alone and BHVR deserve credit for this also. No doubt there was some serious work going on in the background.

  • Community can make a big difference, especially when it works together.

I feel "Stranger Things" was a collective success, not a community success. BHVR had always been trying to reaquire the license and it seems like their hard work paid off. We shouldn't be taking all the credit for that - that was a lot down to BHVR putting the work in. The community simply voiced they wanted it back and acted as a reminder.

  • When I take on the killer role, the playstyle comes down to whom I'm facing.

If the survivors are struggling or victims of matchmaking, I tend to be more empathetic. For example, making sure all survivors have been hooked at least once before going for second hook or even just messing about. A stronger team will make me more aggressive and the end game period is no holds barred. A dickish team gets dickish plays.

Whatever happens, don't tarnish all because of a few and play the way you want to. Just make sure it's challenging in some respect, otherwise it will feel boring and unsatisfying.

  • I'm sure they'll fix it over time. For now - dare I say it - I am more than happy to let this slide, because the chapter return far exceeds any map adjustments. I'm gonna bathe in the joy this chapter gives me upon its return for now.

Just had this also. Really happy to see it back in rotation!

Was it announced? I got the Stranger Things intro, but nothing's in the store and Hawkins isn't in the map choices? I'm sure it's 99.9% coming back, but was the intro an oopsie?

As good as. With the new update the cinematic for the first chapter played. No way would they stick that on without a reason.

  • @RoastedGarlic said:

    pics or it didnt happen

Original promo came up with the new update. Did not expect it, but it's there, clear as day ... happy days!!!

  • @Rulebreaker said:

    But is there proof?

Yes, the Stranger Things promo was with the new update.

  • The easiest way to circumvent this is to remove the skill checks from the second hook stage. This removes the suicide option entirely.

Of course, if someone doesn't want to play then, after being unhooked, they'll either run to the killer for a quick death or remain motionless until the crows start flapping around enough to annoy a killer to end it.

However, I believe refusing to play the game is against the rules and would work as a bannable offence, which would work for survivors who just remain motionless. Running towards a killer to die won't be because that could be excused as a skill issue, so then it would be down to the killer to floor them and maybe choose to leave them to bleed out (if they wanted - there is no obligation to do so).

Therefore, I'll conclude by saying DBD has left a mechanic in place which deliberately causes frustration. I say this because it has been mentioned ample times to change the second stage hook to revert this - a perfectly reasonable request - yet they have chosen not to do so. This would make things much clearer in terms of what is punishable or not, yet has been ignored.

  • Nope. I only buy skins or parts of outfits if I am going to use them there and then.

  • Ethan. Bring one of the more modern protagonists into the field to separate from the current classics.

  • I'm probably dumb, but cannot see the relation between the powers and the posed question.

As for a shape-shifter, it's tough to do versus a swf although I do like the idea.

I'd probably create a power which doesn't shapeshift the killer, but actually shapeshifts the survivors so everyone looks like the killer. During this time, survivors cannot duck or emote (to make identification difficult) and although survivors can do gens or totems, they do not show any sort of sign they are doing it to others.

This would create a lot of confusion and probably make a damn fun game, especially if this power is a timed build-up, like The Dredge's Nightfall.

  • The Visceral sets feel like they are madr for that purpose and to give even more difference in identity.

My guess is Legendary is for people who aren't worried about the Mori and just happy with the skin.

I am looking forward to more Visceral licenses to start coming through though! There are certain powers which, with even just a little tweak, would suit other killers entirely. A slight twist to Deathslinger could bring in Scorpion (MK), Smoker (L4D) and others, as an example.

  • Could be interesting as part of a license. I'm not sure I'd be bothered whether it's done or not, but if it was done I'd be dead against any recognisable animal.

  • I love this challenge as you're really giving yourself a true challenge with the rules in place. Best of luck with the rest of the test and kudos for basically playing as a true champ!

  • Firstly, great question!

I'd have to go with one of the most dangerous and savage beings out there:

    FxQkBA9WIAMaUVB.jpg

Christian Cage. Lock up your fathers! Mori is basically him savaging the survivor with a scaving promo, followed by crushing their skulls with the Killswitch.

  • Whatever you choose, don't change tactics based upon one swf. If other games are okay then carry on doing what you do. That particular attitude by survivors - including Claudette "I say clown, cos I dunno better insult" Moral - won't change whether you win or lose. She'd be a dick even if you destroyed them.

Even if you were Talbot "Pinball Wizard" Grimes or Sally "every map is basically an object-less field" Smithson, you'll meet teams who will all escape you. If you chose them for wins, just to be defeated a few times, it may feel worse.

Best thing is play the way you want to enjoy it. Some enjoy it by smashing people with Nurse, whilst others enjoy the tougher challenge of a weaker killer, experimenting or even just to be role-playing their favourite slasher. Any way is fine, but if you are going to play a certain way because you feel others are forcing you to, then that's never going to be enjoyable.

Don't let a bunch of numpties who may win at DBD but nothing else in life change you.

  • I feel it was nerfed incorrectly. It would have been better to either take away the 3% or the endurance part; make them 2 seperate perks essentially. It's a change that's gone in a direction that feels like they wanted to make it stand out as a unique, technical point.

However, I do applaud them for finding a change regardless. I'm still not a fan of Deep Wound as it doesn't feel like it achieves anything, other than a passive annoyance or differing version of Mangled in terms of healing times.

  • Are we stating here that, in order to not be hit by a low-skilled killer, a survivor needs something that also requires no skill in the form of a haste boost?

A survivor who is skilled - or at the very least fortunate - can out-play a killer using loops, gyms and mind games. If it's all dependant on running faster, then that doesn't communicate skill to me.

That alone flaws your argument and that's not to even take into account the false statement of killer perks rarely getting nerfed. There's ample evidence in patch notes to disprove that.

As a 50/50 player, both sides have nerfs, buffs, advantages and disadvantages. This always goes in ebbs and flows. I'd suggest you get some perspective, instead of becoming upset over something so trivial that someone confident in their ability doesn't necessarily need.

  • Whilst one individual's experience alone cannot prove nor disprove that some people are exaggerating, it's at least good to know someone is bringing some evidence to the table that some killers don't dodge because of a P100 survivor. It's better than someone raging away with no evidence.

I do strongly believe this forum has many who exaggerate. Some don't, but often when it does it comes out of a sense of frustration and rage, inflating the experience. Negative memories often are much stronger than positive ones and 2 bad trials can suddenly feel like 20. So it's understandable, albeit some do this just because they want to manipulate people into thinking something is widespread.

  • Unless I'm on a hook and there is only one survivor left with a couple pf gens still to go, I won't. In that scenario it's just so they can get the hatch as we're not going to get the gens done.

Sometimes, I'll see a survivor want to save me regardless and - in that case - I'll let them since we're just trying to get more BP; make the most out of a bad situation.

I won't do it if we have any sort of chance though. I don't wish to ruin other players' fun because I want to move on.

  • Midwich Elementary is ... it's not a guilty pleasure at all! It's a map I'd honestly say from a lore and aesthetic point of view has had so much love put into it, even including a frickin' puzzle for a mystery prize based upon the original game! That map is absolutely brilliant and although as a trial map it isn't top tier, it is better than some make it out to be.

As for a real guilty pleasure, it would be Mount Ormand as a killer. It's often cited as survivor-sided, but it's one of my best maps to play on. Love it!

  • The only time a killer would destroy a boon is when they equip "Shattered Hope", yet with so many better perks to choose from a killer is very unlikely to bring this along.

In a vast majority of trials the killer will simply snuff out the Boon, which a survivor can re-bless straight away. If a killer does bring "Shattered Hope", it has such a niche purpose that to allow survivors to rebuild the totem and bless it again makes a poor perk pathetic.

Ultimately, I feel this would not work. If a sutvivor is willing to waste 30-40 seconds to rebuild a totem, only to add the blessing time on top, it would be a huge waste of time that could have been spent much more wisely. If - and I'm not suggesting you would agree this is good or not - a killer had the ability to do the same with a Hex, it would be such a bone of contention! Finally, it really isn't needed. "Shattered Hope" would be on the endangered list if it was to be categorised as how common something is.

So kudos for trying to think of something, but this isn't the way.

  • The Oni - being one of the best balanced killers I can think of.

Although I'd personally prefer no repeat characters in a DBD2 and a different trial format. Lean it less into meme and more into horror.
