  • The decay is minimal, meaning within 3 to 4 games you will be back where you were. That said, I've been a killer main since six months after the game released and have retired as well. SBMMR is the primary reason for it.

I jumped in this past weekend after a 2 month break and could only stomach about an hour of gameplay.

The devs are killing the game and are too proud, or blind, to admit it.

Number 3 (the most hated and the most loved concept): The pretty boy Vampire.

I know what the top pick for DBD twitter and the horny DBD community is ;))))

    P.S:

Like it or not Vampires are supposed to be otherworldly beautiful so they can lure their prey and do whatever they want with it.

"Ugly" vampire would be the Nosferatu, which is one of the most powerful vampire types in western mythos.

I have no problem with the pretty boy vampire as long as there is no glittering involved. That series set back vampire mythos decades!!

I'd love to see the Eastern European vampire lore brought to play here. Bram Stoker-style stuff.

  • Yeah, I've not played since the first week of the winter event. It's not like previous breaks. It has turned into more of a hassle to play than anything else. I checked in today to read patch notes and considered logging in. Thought about it and was completely uninterested in putting up with the BS again.

The past few months have beaten the joy out of the game for me and many others. SBMMR is a HUGE part of it, but boons and the new population from Epic really changed the overall feel of the game. It's not that fun anymore. Less of the players are fun to engage with. There used to be meme groups and goofy killers, now it's all sweat.

Good luck all. I don't see tgis dev crew having the ability to turn it around. They've been driving straight for the cliff and don't seem to care.

You might enjoy other horror cultures, but they simply aren't considered widely popular. DBD is a Canadian game that largely targets the Western World. All of the horror icons we've had, regardless of where they come from, are popular figures in the west.

Japanese killers keep getting made because horror or not, Japan is popular. Like it or not, there's a huge amount of money to be made by securing the anime fans in your game's audience. The Ring and The Grudge also both got American remakes which cemented them in popular culture, and of the Japanese killers, Spirit is largely based on Kayako and we're now getting Sadako.

Again, you may like other horror cultures, but outside of their countries of origin, most are considered very niche. They probably will get sales on anything from the vets, but obtaining licensed IPs is one of the biggest factors in getting new people into the game, and "random Vietnamese horror movie you watched and loved and keep recommending to people who've never heard of it" isn't going to have that pull.

They don't have Jason because of licensing issues and court battles going on around ownership of the character. Simple as that. If he were available, he probably would have been in the first 4 licensed DLCs along with Myers, Freddy and Leatherface.

Dude, I think you are way too hung up on the Japanese thing. There is a common habit to forget that Asia is much more than 3 countries. We are not just talking horror movies here. We are talking about cultural folklore and spooky tales. If you were at all well read on the dark and mysterious, you would know that India and Russia take the cake in that category. Not horror movies, but scary figures and tales.

Let's be honest here, Middle East, Northern Europe and Eastern Europe are a massive wealth of untapped horror icons as well.

Yes, Japanese pop culture is popular, and mostly misunderstood by people outside of Japan. Does not mean you keep going to the same well.

They have to pick what sells. Japanese sells. Vietnamese probably won't. Indonesian probably won't. Just a couple examples. We just had a South American killer released, btw.

No, they are picking what is cheap IP that may get some clicks. When it comes to horror, Japan is not the top of the list. There are several better horror cultures. That said, they have to go with what they can get. It is not just about what sells. Otherwise, they'd have Jason Vorhees locked down tight.

  • Huge difference between understanding and enjoying. I understand why some killers strictly rely on camping and tunneling now days. Does not make it any more fun to experience. I've played more survivor the past 2 months than I played in the past 3 years, and I can tell you it is mind-numbing how much camping is going on. The games are boring as all get-out now. Either I get to run the killer for 4 gens and then get left on the hook to die, or I gen jockey because the killer is hardcore camping, and I don't happen to have BT on right now. God, forbid I try to NOT run meta perks.

Honestly, my play time is lowering every week. Not tired of the game, just tired of the state of the game. If the developers don't care and just keep pumping out junk material, why should I care?

  • Almost anything other than Japanese. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Japanese culture and even studied the language in college/joined an immersion group later. That said, we now have 3 killers from Japan. How about some good ole' Eastern European vampire/werewolf action? Perhaps one of the nature-demons of East or West Africa? South American cult lore has a ton to pull from. Seriously, enough already. We get it, Japanese horror was a niche in the 90s and their Anime is still the best, but can we get some other stuff? Heck, what about southeast Asian lore/characters? There's plenty out there.

  • FNaF will be a nail in the coffin. There's still hope for tgis game. Let's hope they recover from the current tailspin instead of adding a children's jump scare character. And yes, before anyone screams about it, the writer outright said FNaF is a children's scary game to help introduce them to scary movies, etc.

  • Pentimento is a joke, especially vs SWF. If you destroyed the totem once, you know where it was. You suddenly see the hex symbol and gens are slow. Everyone go check the totem spot you destroyed. Done.

I've run this combo several times and it is only helpful vs bad groups. Any SWF and halfway decent solo que groups render it null and void. It buys me about a minute throughout the entire match; which I more than lose to Boons.

  • If the player knows what they are doing with her, you don't. Seriously, you can't loop her if the operator is halfway decent.

    Pre-drop, hold w, buy time.

  • The number of players killing themselves on hook due to facing a killer they don't like or getting downed early is nuts. That alone is enough to skew kill rate data.

  • Demo, with the right addon you can place a portal near the totem and know when someone is nearby.

    Hag is good too.

  • I find her quite strong actually. Once you get used to her and her movement/timing, she shuts down loops like crazy. She also had the best ranged damage ability by far. Add in her detection abilities and she is a monster.

I am honestly expecting some strong nerfs eventually, especially after the VHS Beta period dies down.

Don't even get me going on how strong she is during EGC. No hope at all for survivors if you do it right.

  • VHS

No, seriously, tgis game is a mad mess. The devs are just throwing things at the wall now. Don't sink your time and money in.

  • I spent more than 1 mil bp yesterday and found only 5 bps. It is insane how rare those are. With the amount of camping and tunneling as solo survivor lately, no way I use them during events.

Trying to adjust to being a survivor player again, but quickly getting bored with it.

Yes - you can smurf your MMR down. It takes significantly longer than deranking would under the old system.

I ran into smurfing SWFs a month ago. I think I've seen 1 in the past week now. I think people are starting to realize that it's just not worth the effort.

It does not take as long as you think. I've seen people achieve it in just a couple of days.

Tgis MMR system is worse at rating skill than the Emblem system. It takes nothing you do in a match into consideration. It only measures kills and escapes.

  • @StarLost said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/296520/why-mmr

The problem with the 'ranks' system was that:

    • It was way too easy to derank and smurf. It was so bad that even some Fog Whisperers admitted to deranking for easier games on stream. Emblems would have the same problem.
    • Killers had no matchmaking protections, so high MMR people would constantly get matched against people with much less experience/skill, resulting in those amazing '100 win streak with a meme build' videos.

MMR has it's problems, particularly in terms of people with high MMR now constantly having harder games than they are used to, plus the occasional 'wut' matchup - but it's been significantly better now, at least for me as a comfortably intermediate killer player that prefers to try weird perk and addon combinations.

At least 3/5 games are...pretty decent. Maybe 1/5 is a touch too easy and 1/5 is a brutal slog, but before MMR, around 2/3 of my games were me getting absolutely stomped by people with thousands more hours of experience, generally smurfing.

I do agree that MMR for survivors should be more nuanced than died/escaped, but there's plenty of room for refinement.

MMR is just as easily gamed as emblems. Maybe even easier. I've seen survivors destroy a killer, open the gate, refuse to leave, get sacrificed by EGC, and derank. Lots of BP and derank. I've seen killers do the same. Own survivors, get chili stacks, break pallets, kick gens, afk for the 4 escape and derank.

I've been playing tgis game since shortly after release, tgis is the worst matchmaking yet. Very bad for the game.

  • To be fair, there are some matches where a "gg" is more snarky than sportsmanship.

For instance, match starts, 2 DC (for baby reasons), the other 2 are trying to make a match of it, but the fully meta Blight camps and the match is hosed. It was a solo que match and the guy camped used BPS. The killer then says "gg".

Seriously, just stop it. Don't say anything. If someone is going to camp at 5 gens in a 2v1 in solo que, just take your BP and leave. Don't pretend to jave a shred of decency in you. lol

Otherwise, in most cases, it's just people who don't want to lose. More importantly, they don't know how to lose gracefully.

  • This MMR is one of the worst I've seen in any game. Kills and Escapes are not the measuring tool for skill. Those are happenstance, at best. Many times, the best players don't survive because they lock up the killer's time so much that they end up on the hook in the end. It is exacerbated in solo que. If you are a good player in solo que, you are likely going to be hosed. Every now and then, you get good partners, but that is maybe 10% of the time. The low-skill killers know only tunnel and camp. It works so well vs these low-skill survivors. I've run the killer for 180+ seconds straight (completed my challenge in one run!) with zero gens done. When I got downed, three survivors all hiding around the map. All three creep around while I'm on the hook. Legion is camping me (yeah, Legion...). None of them try for the hook. None of them get on a gen. I go through all three hook stages and die. Yep....solo que in a nutshell. That's your MMR at work! lol

  • Because you face way too many SWF when your MMR goes up. Solo que is often another story. Your lucky to see one person escape. Heck, your lucky to see a gen get done after running the killer for 2 minutes straight.

Two very different games. That's called poor game design by the way. Just thought I'd bring that up.......

  • Bigger question. Why are Michael's running NOED?! I mean....manage your powers bro.

    (Barring Scratch Mirror)

  • Not sure on that one. I know in solo que I've seen quite a few survivors getting frustrated (Been playing more solo survivor since MMR because killer is absolutely miserable to play now). I get it. They go 5-10 matches in a row with tunneling and camping from the start and it can be frustrating after a while. People say, just stop playing, but when you are trying to hit a goal, and that is all you face, it gets a bit overwhelming at times. Especially when you get caught in MMR hell due to you being the only one who can run the killer. You run the killer for 3 minutes with no gens done and 3 other survivors hiding in a corner while the killer proxies you to death.

Yeah, you lose MMR because you sucked.....wait.....what?!

This game is frustrating and the play styles just make it worse.

I think I found a new way to just chill and play. Started playing gimmick killers with gimmick names - like Santa's Toy Thief. Just try to knock things out of people's hands. Limit chests. Run Hoarder so I can see when they pick it up. Not care about hooks or escapes. Just get some BP and screw around. Screw this game and how the Devs when it played. I'll have fun one way or another.

  • Wraith and Ghostface because the likelihood of camping and tunneling just went up by 90%. Means a boring match.

  • I played vs on Twins in 5 months.

Rarely see Cenobite, Twins, Freddy or Clown.

  • Solo que is especially vulnerable to camping and tunneling. It's an easy win strategy vs solo. They don't have the ability to share information like SWF does.

Killer is camping with NOED and Warden.

    1. Solo survivors can't tell there is camping until they physically check it out. This means wasted time off of gens.

    2. They then miraculously do the right thing and focus on hens. The camped player will likely due before much is done due to #1. Maybe 2 to gens are done.

    3. 2nd player is now being camped.

    4. Last gens are done. Players rush for door, but killer cuts one off and NOED claims a victim. See, each of the 3 remaining survivors did a totem, but have no way to know if all the totems are done. If one ran Small Game, that one knows, but has no time to waste in order to find the rest.

    5. Killer opens gate, hooks the NOED victim, triggering Blood Warden.

EZ 3 to 4k. If you throw Monstrous Shrine or No Way Out in there, it's even worse. I've even seen TotH used to slow totem cleansing down enough to force solos to waste time.

Solo que survivors should have some baseline data points. Kindred, totem counters and maybe even Alert. Then rebalance killers to the higher level of info, thus closing the gap with SWF.

That's all a pipe dream though. BHVR will never figure this stuff out. If only they had some group trying to inform them.....

  • Honestly, I think Wraiths camp more than Bubba do. I rarely run into a camping Bubba. About 80% of Wraiths hardcore camp though.

  • @StarLost said:

You seem to say this in every thread I see you in.

I'll say what I did last time.

    • There is no MMR hell.
    • As your MMR falls, you'll either get better teammates or worse killers until it stabilizes.
    • Sometimes BHVR fiddle with matchmaking for an evening or two and you get bonkers matchups. If you are suddenly getting much faster matchmaking than usual, it's usually a sign to take the night off.

So untrue. I was stuck in MMR hell for weeks. The hell part of it is you have low tier killers who only know how to camp and chase one person down. They always run NOED, and have absolute tunnel vision. Your teammates are scared to do anything. I ran a killer for over 4 minutes with zero gens done. He hardcore camps and 2 survivors are crouch in corners, the other one comes running in and gets downed without getting me off the hook. 4k match.

Another typical match is me avoiding killer, doing 3-4 gens, 3 totems, 4 or more rescues with BT and finding myself alone and at the mercy of EGC with doors next to each other and live NOED.

There is MMR hell and the only way out is to SWF, which is what I had to do to get competent teammates.

MMR is only pushing people to SWF more. Stupid system.

  • OP? No.

Do I see her getting some nerfs? Definitely.

Her recon ability, combined wither insanely strong anti loop ability is overbearing to say the least. She has very good map pressure with synergy use of her crows. She can absolutely shut down loops vs 99% of survivors.

I think her power recharge will get nerfed, as will her deployment speed of Dire Crows.

She is fun and easy to use, but not so much to face. The easy part is her downfall. The reworked Freddy issue. Low skill cap, huge reward. Learning how to use her crows is not hard at all. The synergy with aura perks is fantastic!

Her perks......meh. Scourge Hook is interesting, the totem one will be a waste. If the survivors knew where the perks were to begin with, they'll just go back and destroy the new one. Interesting concept, and I think something is there, but not in its current format. The other perk is a waste of a slot.

  • It's a sad state they put this game in. It was very short sighted of them to use this version of SBMMR. Especially after years of study. At least the Emblem system took into consideration how much you did in a match.

Now they are pushing players to either group up into SWF or quit. That means every killer will be forced to face more SWF, jacking games up for everyone.

Wait....I might have this wrong. How much evil genius does it take to design a system that screws both sides, and hurts the game while benefiting the most toxic aspect of it?!

Wow, the devs truly are the entity. They give us hope, then yank it away at the last second.

  • I've seen plenty of people tanking their MMR, so it is all really a waste of time. I've seen SWF who refuse to leave after opening the gates. I've seen killers who hook everyone once and let everyone go.

People don't want every game to be sweaty, so they tank their MMR in order to get back to comfort play.

  • @Sweet_Potato said:

Literally had a game against Blight where the first survivor was 3-hooked (technically 4-hooked because of ds) withing the first 2 minutes of the game. Corrupt was still up. Also had several similar games against nurses and spirits during the last couple of days.

But yea, nerf survivors. Gen speed too fast. Circle of healing op...

All killer mains complaining about that while such things exist should play a Solo Q 3 vs 1 at 5 gens all day.

Please understand, the kill rate is vastly misrepresented in the numbers. The largest number of those kills come from the lowest rank, solo que survivors. The ones who are too afraid to engage a gen while Bubba is face camping someone in a basement. The ones who slow walk up to a hook while Wraith is uncloaking behind them with a silent bell. Etc, etc. I play both sides. I've started playing much more survivor lately due to how bad high MMR is for killers. No, I don't want easy games, but I do want at least a few non-sweaty games. Where I can feel like I can run something other than meta perks and perhaps a low-tier killer and still have a decent shot at a few hooks. That's not the case with higher MMR.

Because I ran so little survivor, my MMR was pretty low when I started. I find myself in absolute newbie he$$ and I am struggling to get out. Solo que with 3 survivors who can't seem to get the idea of focusing on gens. None can run the killer for more than 10 seconds. Nearly every match is a 4k.

That is why the killer's numbers are so high, but the data is not accurate. If they really wanted to take a good look at how killers are doing, they would break it down by MMR and killer. Then we'd see the real data.

  • @SunsetSherbet said:

I don't know where this idea came from that a game must be balanced and fair to be competitive.

Because you can't have real competition without balance. If one side is favored over another, where is the competition. It is literally the core requirement.

Thus why there are no real tournaments for DBD. When a few streamers do get together, they put limits on what number of perks or activities can occur. Why? Total lack of balance.

You can call this a PvP-type game, but not a competitive game. At its core, DBD was released as a party-casual game. The problems lately are because the devs are trying to force it into a competitive game, but can't figure out balance.

Imagine trying to hold a Fortnite, CoD or Smash Brothers tournament, but one side gets extra people with more powerful weapons and abilities. How well will that work?

  • MMR and recent changes destroy what was left of sportsmanship in this game. It's a casual game at its core, not competitive due to total lack of balance. Uet, the devs have no foresight and make changes that push it to being absolutely cutthroat.

I don't know how they come back from this without a total overhaul.

  • I've seen a major increase in selfish survivor play in solo que. Since I stopped playing killer as much (used to be 80/20 killer bow it's reversed), I've played a lot more solo que. I get trained when nearly done on a gen with 5 gens still left. I got trained intentionally by several who even threw the pallet next to me while U was working the gen, bringing the killer.

Then there is the 2 last night. I'm slugged, the killer downed another on the other side. I'm maybe 16m outside the open gate they are in. No NOED, they both have 1 hook and DH. Instead of trying to heal me, I'm at 95%, they run out. I almost get to exit as killer picks me up. This is after doing 2 gens, rescuing both of them. Running him for 2 gens.

    MMR at its best!!

  • Honestly, I blame MMR. Camping and tunneling is the easiest way to either break even or gain in MMR. Most tunnel matches end in 2-3 kills. Kills are all the matter really.

Welcome to BHVR'S idea of fun and fair. lol

  • It stacks with all healing perks and items.

  • Blame SBMMR and Boons. Since SBMMR was introduced killers jave had to face constant sweat squads. You used to get one every few matches, then get a couple more laid back matches. Now, every match is sweaty meta builds and I've seen most of them running 2-4 totems.

All I keep hearing is how tunneling out the first survivor is the strongest way to slow it down. I just can't bring myself to do it though. I prefer a laid back style of pressuring the field. Unfortunately, it means very frustrating matches.

  • Dead Hard is not the discouraging issue for killer imo. It is SBMMR and Boons that are making killer miserable. I see all these threads on how Boons are not going to be meta, yet every match I've run this week sees 2 to 4 up at the same time. Add in SBMMR and constant skilled SWF and tgis is a lesson in futility.

Oh, but you can hear them so loud! Yeah, but then stopping pressure to look for it, then toy with the fact you have to position just right to interact with it and you just lost 10 to 15 seconds. Multiply that times three and you just lost a duo gen. If it's a multilevel map, forget it.

Just ignore it. Sure, and watch players healing in front of you. If they jave a healers kit or healing perk added in, you are in for a long match.

Yeah, Dead Hard hardly registers with me. I wish that was the biggest issue.

Four minutes is ridiculous. Anything over 1 minute is a very long chase. It might sound counter intuitive, but it might actually help you to go down once in a while. If you are playing someone who is obviously many levels below you, to the point were you can loop them for four minutes, I can't really blame them for not wanting you to get unhooked. Maybe throw a chase once in a while if you detect that the Killer is underlevelled?

I dunno, might sound crazy, but when I'm playing Killer, if I detect the survivors are not competent, I take my foot off the pedal.

I've tried that. Then they chewed through 10 second chases. I eventually worked my out of it, but had to duo with a friend.

  • I find many Ghostface and Pig killers tend to be mad if you run them for a bit. They hot you on hook a lot and try to camp and tunnel.

  • @JPA said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/290845/is-this-sbmmr-final

"And of course, if SBMMR is based on time in a match, and solos keep getting left to die on hook, how are we supposed to even get a higher MMR score? Are we all doomed to just keep getting potatoes on our team for the end of time?"

Don't forget the Killer also has an MMR, so if your MMR drops, you'll play low MMR Killers. You will hopefully beat them, and then your MMR rises a bit.

Low MMR killers tend to jave more new players, and camp/tunnel much more. I found getting stuck as a good player with low MMR killers and teammates is significantly harder to overcome.

I ran a match last week where I ran the killer for over 4 minutes. I had a quest that required 3 minutes and did it all in that match. I finally go down. 1 gen was done in 4 minutes. I got face camped to death and watched as the killer then got 2 more hiding in corners before the last got hatch.......

  • OP is missing major parts of the story here. If you are a casual player who does not care to tunnel or camp unless logic calls for it, you can easily find yourself at high MMR and facing sweat crews nonstop.

It used to be that I'd lose a match here and ther. I'd have some great matches that were fun and had 2-3 kills, and could run a variety of builds and addons with various killers. Now, with MMR, I face constant sweat matches, have to run slow down perks or gen control perks, or get bullied every match. I lost over 30 matches in a row, with 0 to 1 kill, and still face this crap.

Every match is vs meta perks, every match affords no mercy on mistakes, and every match lacks any level of enjoyment. I've started playing more survivor for the first time in over 3 years. Even in mid tier solo que, I ha e more fun than playing killer. Last month is the first time in 3.5 years where my survivor "rank" surpassed killer.

  • Laurie, hands down. She is based off the original scream queen after all.

  • I git it on both sides. Though I have moved more to survivor since MMR.

  • Springtrap or any of his compatriots. This game suffers from immature toxicity already. We don't need any more. I'd be done.

  • Same bug for me. Can't use his chainsaw after hitting a survivor and a pallet.
