Am I playing a different game to everyone else? Killer is no more easy or hard than it was pre patch, sometimes I destroy the survivors, sometimes I get destroyed and other times it's somewhere in between. I really do think people are overreacting at how easy killer is now, go play clown on gideon and see if it's "easy."

I really do feel like I play a different game from the people who come here to kvetch. The forums often feel like a cacophony of people who are mediocre at the game, coming here to complain about balance. Whenever I get asked how I feel about the balance update, I just say "All the maps I did poorly on, I still do poorly. All the maps I did well on, I still do well on." Breaking pallets a little bit faster, the survivor not getting as much distance when struck, and the dead-hard nerf, were significant till survivors adapted. The biggest problem with the game is still maps.

  • @Marigoria said:

If those basekit buffs killers got are meaningless, you wouldnt mind if they were reverted correct?

It wouldn't change much for me. All of the maps I did poorly on, I still do poorly and all of the maps I do well on, I still do well on.

  • @Plsfix369 said:

I got bored reading all that for nothing, so your point was that Map Offerings busted keeping Nurse OP and letting SoloQ suffer.

I started disagreeing with you when you said Haddonfield was busted. For a Billy main, that's a good map to learn curves. The rest seems like you ranting about how bad you are at the game.

Why not just buff all killers (except Nurse and Blight) and SoloQ so we wouldn't have to feel desperate every time someone brings a Map Offering?

Also, Nurse, without OP addons, is borderline balanced on certain maps, but with the OP addons, she has no business being in the same game as a Trapper or Myers, who you know damn well doesn't have any power against decent survivors yet doesn't get any buffs.

Hilarious. It's pretty interesting you say I'm bad at the game and then go on to praise Haddonfield for being a fair Billy map. I guess my 2,000 hours on Billy in high MMR don't matter. Honestly, that's all I really need to know about your opinion on game-balance to tell me everything.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

It's a combination of maps and matchmaking. Let's assume my Nurse MMR is somewhere in the high 1900s based on what I've been told without giving an exact number.

I do lose games. But it happens rarely and typically only when I get matched against people I recognize from comp. If you round an elite Nurse player down to 1700 and then match them even further down, it's a mismatch to a wild degree. The game should never happen.

What gets lost on people in the Nurse debate is just how bad the matchmaking is. There's little to no space between top killers and absolute average survivors. Average 500 hr survivors are only going to get 1 or 2 gens tops against a Nurse who plays the game at what is essentially a top 500 level. That's a normal expected result in any other game. That's not a balance issue.

It should be noted the MMR cap is 1900, meaning you can only exist at this number, never exceed it. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxPfwB1WBPM&ab_channel=ScottJund)

I believe the MMR testing loosened the +- of the MMR range it would pair you with. I'll need to find a source, but old MMR kept you at a +-250, I believe new MMR is +-500

I like your take on this.

I watched Otz' recent video on Nurse, and although I never play Nurse and am not a fan of going against her, I think he's absolutely wrong about the level of skill it requires to take to play her. He forgets that he's Otz, he plays the game for a living, and the fact that he can easily pick up and play Nurse doesn't do much to negate the fact that that she has a 40% kill rate, the lowest in the game, and most people clearly can't just pick her up and 4K every match after practicing for a day the way he thinks they can.

I only point this out because that video got me worried that his opinions might be taken into account in a possible Nurse nerf, since he is perhaps the biggest voice in DBD.

But he's wrong on this one. The fact that Nurse requires such a high amount of skill to play competitively is the best argument for keeping her.

When you get survivors who have played this game for 2,000+ hours, you get survivors who tie multiple different structures into one, long giant loop that wastes your time significantly.

I've started seeing survivors who can do this lately. Shack spawns next to a wall with a window, and you get to choose between getting one down or stopping four generators from popping in the background while you attempt to do so. As an M1 killer main, this isn't fun.

a hacker came into my stream and told me that my MMR was 1835

Dude, what? I wanna know what my MMR is. You can see it somehow?

The only reason I know what my MMR is because the hacker joined my chat and told me. There is no way, without hacking, you can see this information.

  • I have about 22k saws on Billy. I'm top #30 in the world for saw downs and I stream him pretty much daily. His addons are garbage. His basekit is too slow. The stagger you suffer from slamming into walls and using the chainsaw for distance make him completely terrible to play. Billy suffers greatly in high MMR and even when you stack slowdowns, you oftentimes get about 3-4 chainsaws before all the gens get done. If you don't use the saw for backrevs, it's very easy to counter against survivors who pre-drop and hold W. The meta left Billy behind a long, long time ago. Even with old insta-saw, there are many games

  • @Shroompy said:

"a completely benign, and insanely cool bug"

Trust me, I really like sky/space billy. But if you don't see the benefit of getting on top of almost anything, then idk what to tell you

Besides, I tested out a spot on the Autohaven hill (because I saw that line in the patch notes and feared the worst) and its unchanged, you still take flight and you can get much higher than just a generator. I'm also hearing that the new map has a few spots but I can't say for sure

If a Billy who got on top of a 4 gen 4k'd your team, he didn't need to get on top of the gen to do it.

  • Same for me. Still rank 1 on killer and survivor.

  • Same thing for me. I am still rank 1 on killer and survivor with no BP from grade reset.

I'm glad they acknowledged the gap between solo and SWF, but if they don't address the oppressive perks that killers use then nothing will help average solos, even if they have all the status meters there is. You will still be unable to play an average solo match because the game is balanced for what seems to be really experienced and good SWF, which the survivors that want to have a chance to win play together. Solo and casual will still face unprecedented losses every match. The stats they see should show that. The skill requirements are still too high for the survivor side and status icons do not help that.

    Less required from killers.

Killers can usually down too fast.

Maps are too favorable for most killers. We need more fog. Fog offerings still do not work. It is non-existent on the farm maps.

Ruin, Tinkerer, Starstruck, Undying, STBFL, and all Aura Perks, to name a few, need to be looked at and nerfed some.

MMR still doesn't offer 2K outcomes.

Killers win way too much and too easily and status icons won't help enough.

I am not sure if you're serious or not, but survivors absolutely do NOT need more buffs.

  • I don't think the analogy works because it's comparing asymmetrical experiences.

  • Lopro are his best purple addons. The boots are nice, too. Tuned Carburetor is okay, but heavily map dependent. Probably one of my favorite addons for indoor maps, to be honest. Pighouse gloves are absolutely terrible. I once ran them 4 games in a row without ever getting any value out of it. Complete and utter garbage.

  • Boons and MMR were the solo-que buff.

  • Have you tried waiting 12 seconds and then hitting the survivor?

I hate to say it, but this is honestly how I feel. On all my killers, I am completely out of Azarov Keys and MacMillan Bones, yet I have a stockpile of every other offering.

  • I see a lot of Blights, Huntresses, Tricksters, Spirits and Wraiths. I'm not sure what my MMR is as a survivor.

It's not legal to delete the character from peoples accounts, so the next best solution they had is gutting him so no one plays him.

Actually, it is legal. If BHVR wanted to indefinitely disable any content they've licensed to you, they'll just revoke the license. You accept this caveat when you agree to the EULA. You pay for the license to access their content, you own nothing -- not even your in-game progress.

Billy and Freddy were barely nerfed in their base kit.

The nerfs just prove how reliant they were on their best addons to do well.

Freddy's base-kit was actually significantly nerfed. Having a hard counter to your power for 30 seconds is completely devastating especially at high MMR. When games last 5-8 minutes, 30 seconds is everything.

  • They were way, way too heavy handed with the Slinger nerfs. BHVR has a real problem with nerfing killers into uselessness. Billy, Freddy, and now Slinger are all bottom tier. It makes me worried that they'll take strong, fun to play killers like Oni and Blight and nerf them into the ground.

  • I came here to make this exact thread, but you've beaten me to it. Deathslinger is only viable when you can "quickscope" and the fact his ADS speed is slower than your camera turn radius makes him feel terrible to play already. I hardly touched DS and now I'll probably only ever play him if I have a daily. This is a bad change, and the only one I don't agree with from the last 2 patches.

  • Why on Earth would any killer want all 4 survivors to spawn separated? That's a horrible idea. Likewise, spawning together or with any survivor is inefficient for survivors. The shrouds should be removed from the game altogether.

  • I think there's room for both, and I enjoy both about equally. Leatherface is quite simple and still fun with good counter-play. Nurse's power is complicated, roughly speaking, and she's still fun with good counter-play.

I have had nothing but games full of survivors with Prove thyself, Deadhard, and toolboxes, flashlights, and Keys. I dodge lobby's for hours to find something without any of the above, and no it's always Prove thyself gen rush, tbag at exit. I run any form of perk to stop gen rush? Corrupt intervention, they hide or just rush a gen while I chase one guy, even if it's not for long. Hex ruin breaks at the start of the game. I cant hook anyone to use pop cause by the time I do 3 gens are done. Thanat is a joke. Dying light is a bigger joke. I genuinely have had to simply camp to get anything done the past couple games. I hate SBMM with a passion.

This has been my experience as well. I dislike MMR and hope they stop.

  • Adding my voice to the cacophony. I dislike SBMM in a party game.

    Reading something like this:

"...Best loopers always know where they currently are in terms of map positioning, as well as the next safe spot to go to after their current tile gets used up..."

...makes me realize why I dropped and uninstalled this game on PC back in 2018. That is a ridiculous task for a casual gamer to perform. And yes, I do give a rat's ass about the E-Sports/semi-pro bunch. They can do this stuff on a server somewhere in Uganda (?) as far as I care. I just don't want to have to play with them, which the current matchmaking forces me occasionally to do.

To expect this level of work to be put by a player into such a rather casual game is just nuts. Some of us got a proper job already, we don't need another one provided for us by BHVR.

I'm starting to think slowly that the best for this game might be to throw the over-competitive bunch (Yes, looking at you, sweaty SWF tryharders! ) together with self-proclaimed "pro" players, the trolls and the rest of the toxic and unsavory bunch onto their own server. In order to let he rest of us just have fun at a casual game. While they can do common reacharounds or whatever on their secluded server.

Because the current state of the game (even apart from the technical issues) makes it often UNFUN for a rather casual player.

Are you trying to tell me that remembering various tile structures and their optimal run path, 30+ pallet locations per map, 30+ totem spawns per map, all strong loops and all weak loops isn't casual?

I agree with this. Survivors / Maps had to be changed / nerfed. And it is not like they just received nerfs. It is just the overwhelming experience with nerfs for Survivors and buffs for certain killers which felt unbalanced. Right now I agree that survivors are at the weakest, but that does not mean that they are weak.

I mainly play Solo Q and I can only recommend playing with Kindred. I know it does not solve the main issue, but this way you give your whole team so much information. As a veteran player I can really just recommend going for Information / Knowledge. Information is key! Knowing where your mates are, where the killer is, where totems are, where paletts are, which windows are open, where the exit gates have spawned is so cruel in this game. It won't help you to get tunneled. But it will help your teammates / yourself to take right option or simply to see which options are avaible for you.

At the end I really hope that many people are gonna start to think both ways and stop taking only one side. We have so many only Killer / Survivor Mains especially Streamers that are constantly bashing the other side and don't give them credit nor realize which problems the other ones have to face. Feels so sad. Especially with certain people discredit your statement / opinion with just "Tell me you are a [Survivor Main] / [Killer Main] without telling me..".

The end point I hope people pull away from my post is that survivors shouldn't lose pips for being camped and tunneled, and Kindred should be basekit. Also, if they rewarded the survivor for being tunneled, because, well tunneling is meta, then it would make the game feel a lot better.

  • @madradfox said:

Tunneling is countered by being good at the chase as survivor.

No. Being good at chase revolves around knowing the mechanics and taking advantage of each other's relative positioning. You don't win chases by waiting for the killer to be right on top of you and then actively trying to outrun them. You win chases by making sure that positional gap between you and the killer never gets small enough that your every maneuver will effectively put you inside of their striking distance. Best loopers always know where they currently are in terms of map positioning, as well as the next safe spot to go to after their current tile gets used up.

On the other hand, tunneling immediately forces the unhooked survivor to already be in the weakest relative position at the start of the chase. When you are getting tunneled, the killer already knows exactly where you are, you are already injured, bleeding and making extra noise. If you happen to already be zoned out and you have no Endurance there won't be anything you can do, as you obviously won't be able to afford to take a hit to gain speed and distance. Even if you do get Endurance and are great at looping, at least one of your routes away the hook will already be strewn with pallets you happened to drop earlier.

At that point, all veteran survivors know that their only way to escape the trial is to extend this chase - and the next one that will be in store after their next unhook - long enough for their teammates to finish the remaining gens. If there are still 3-4 gens left, and you are getting tunneled by a reasonably competent killer, there is practically nothing that can be done to ensure your survival. Having other survivors take hits for you will force them away from doing gens, force them to heal before trying to rescue later on, and in general will just help the killer apply more passive pressure in chases.

And there is nothing more to say because what was said was true. Articulate and well put. If you watch any of Zubatlel's streams, he's a wonderful survivor, perhaps among the best. Yet, if he's being tunneled straight-off hook, it's game over 10 out of 10 times.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2404418#Comment_2404418

Is that really so bad though? When people point out survivors are at the weakest they've ever been I feel like everyone neglects the fact that they had god loops, god windows, pallet vacuums, literal infinites, etc... It's not like survivors have been knocked down for years because they don't need it.

I do agree that, back when infinites existed that was a real problem. And any killer that has sub 200 hours is probably going to get bullied unless they're packing the most meta-perk build available. The game has a steep, steep learning curve and a very generous time commitment to understand the nuances. However, there's essentially 3 levels of asymmetricity we're addressing now. Killer, solo and SWF. That's where my point lies. Solo Que survivors need more information; the pip system should be adjusted. The game has evolved.

  • @ich_häng_mal_rum said:

I think you make some good points in your post. Most interesting to me is the spawn issue, which I also think should be urgently revised. It's a bit weird that for example the offerings weren't swapped, since it's not desirable for a killer to start all survivors separately from each other, just as vice versa that survivors shouldn't start all together.

The t-bagging I personally find uninteresting, as well as click click with flashlights or the like. The fact is that these survivors do nothing, have no real impact on the game and thus actually support the killer.

The only thing I really see different is your "solution" for tunneling and camping. The one who had virtually no chance to simply give some kind of pain compensation in the form of bloodpoints, I think is the wrong way, because it changes neither the game mechanics nor the fun factor. It would simply be a kind of pain money.

I'm in favor of an approach that gives the survivors realistic counters that give them an opportunity in such cases and really bring something. For example, why not increase the ds stun so the survivor can get away and maybe hide?

Overall, I think it's time to review various game mechanics and change them if necessary. And preferably in open exchange with the community.

If the offerings were swapped, where killers could spawn survivors together, and survivors could choose to spawn apart, that could very, very easily be abused by both sides. It would absolutely suck. To be honest, I think the offerings should just be removed all together. Otherwise, we'd see a lot of Lethal Pursuer Nurses/Bubbas who get 4k's in about 1 minute 30 seconds flat.

Sorry chief, I'm legally obligated to keep the cakes at the funny number.

    Nice.

  • On the other side of this coin, I'm amazed that his Ruin stayed up for more than 30 seconds. EVERY TIME I run that perk, it is cleansed within literal minutes of the match starting. I hardly get any value out of it. Hex perks are so RNG they're almost useless.

  • I'm going to be honest when I saw I hardly see any of these perks used, sans NOED. Make your choice is primarily used by Hag players, which are, thankfully, not as common as you might think.

  • By making a post here, I am adding my voice to the cacophony of noise. I agree with the OP and hope BHVR address this.

  • If you want a killer with good perks, pick Clown. If you want a killer who is going to be powerful, pick Spirit or Oni. If you want a powerful killer with great perks, pick Hag.

  • I main a few different killers, but I've been playing a lot of Bubba lately. I think survivors are taken aback by a Leatherface who doesn't face-camp them or tunnel them. But they usually hate the fact I can insta-down them with my chainsaw. I guess I play him because I've always been a big fan of the TCM movies when I was a kid. I dressed up as Leatherface when I was 10, once.

  • Someone accused me of "area camping", once. I asked him what the hell that even meant. Apparently, I was only staying in the bottom half of the map for most of the game, and thus, I was area camping.

  • I play mostly killer, so do with that bias what you will. That being said, every time I run this perk, I usually get about 3 tokens before the survivors find it and pop it. DevHope is best suited with undying. Hex perks have so much RNG involved, it's a huge gamble to bet your late game on them. Just today, I was playing against a Clown, in the solo que red ranks. We got about 4 gens done before his DevHope got 5 tokens. Soon as we realized it, it was too late. He'd killed two people who had no hook states. We ended up not escaping, and I safety pipped.

In the end game chat, I just said "GG". The other two survivors were salty and mad as hell. They said DevHope was an OP perk, and that he couldn't have won without it. All I wanted to say was "Yeah.... and?" It was our job as survivors to find his totem and break it as soon as he had 3 tokens and we knew of its existence. Devour Hope is not OP because it has so many counters. Hex Totems are a big part of the game and, at this point, should be accounted for by all survivors.

I'm aware of steam overlay issues, however this does not explain why this only happens in Dead by Daylight. I have not experienced this in any other game.

I was able to replicate this bug in CS:GO. YMMV

  • This is a steam issue and not a DbD issue. The way to never experience this is to disable the Steam overlay in your steam settings. Check out this thread: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/236048/dpi-bug

  • @Johnagon_Infinity said:

For right now, I am going to disable the steam overlay and try and play a few games as survivor. I'll report back in an hour or two. I don't want to say this is a Steam issue just yet, but the fact that it's persistent across games and optics will lead me to not put the blame on BHVI's shoulders just yet.

I can confirm that after disabling the steam overlay, as well as opting out of the steam beta, I have not experienced this bug in 2+ days.

  • I do participate in Steam's beta test for the Steam client. I'm going to opt out of it, but I just played 3 games as survivor without being affected by the DPI bug. Hopefully this is the answer.

  • @Morbid said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2042520#Comment_2042520

Oh damn really? You could be right. I read that someone said they had this issue in CSGO also. It could be a problem with Steam then.

For right now, I am going to disable the steam overlay and try and play a few games as survivor. I'll report back in an hour or two. I don't want to say this is a Steam issue just yet, but the fact that it's persistent across games and optics will lead me to not put the blame on BHVI's shoulders just yet.

  • So, I was playing a game of CSGO, and alt-tabbing/using the steam overlay and the bug happened again! My DPI dropped pretty horribly low till I quit out of CSGO and then it fixed itself. Perhaps this is a steam issue?

  • As of right now, this happens to me so frequently that the game is unplayable. I can't play survivor and loop anyone, and I absolutely can't play killer.

  • image.png

Me, waiting for a fix on this bug like:

  • It appears the fix I proposed isn't working. That's a shame. In attempt to provide an approximation of when the issue began to occur, it did not happen to me before they rolled out the new "skill-based match making" test.

  • **EDIT: It would appear this fix is no working. The bug persists.**

I am hesitant to say I have found a fix, but I will direct everyone to this answer I found on Reddit from a year ago.

"It may be a scaling issue with Windows, my friend experienced something similar.

Right click the game in Steam, and click Properties. On the Local Files tab, click Browse Local Files. This will open the base install directory.

Click the folder called "DeadByDaylight" in the window that opened, then "Binaries" > "Win64". There's a file in there called DeadByDaylight-Win64-Shipping.exe

Right-click this file, and click Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab, and look for the button called "Change High DPI Settings" (https://prnt.sc/r4p0xv) and click it.

At the bottom of the window that opens, enable "High DPI scaling override". The box below that will have several options, I suggest trying them out in order to see if it resolves your issue. (https://prnt.sc/r4p34y)"

Give that a try and report back with your results.

Here's what I've done, and I think it may have fixed it temporarily. I edited the GameUserSettings.ini found in the "C:\Users\YourNameHere\AppData\Local\DeadByDaylight\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor" pathway. I changed the "KillerCameraSensitivity" and "SurvivorCameraSensitivity" values to 60 & 70. You'll need to have hidden files made visible to you. Doing both of these things works for now.

  • @Morbid said:

I just tried re installing everything, mouse drivers, game etc. Verifying cache and nothing seems to work. I played 3 matches and it was fine then on the 4th it was back to feeling like my mouse was at 1% of my DPI

I really do hope this issue is fixed swiftly. Half of my games are unplayable now. I won't even think about touching killer right now.

  • At first, I went into the user settings .ini file and manually changed my settings. The ini file said the both my killer and survivor's sensitivity's value was 50, so I changed it to 70/60 respectively. This worked until the next time I started the game. All of my driver's are up to date.
