I think I just worded myself badly. I don't disagree with your logic at all on the 'long term' side of things, I suppose I just don't agree that it's something we should try to push people away from either meaning I don't think it's necessarily against a killer player's best interests if that makes sense.
That's not meant to be a "let people play how they want" type response though since I genuinely think it's something people should learn and shouldn't be stigmatised in the way it is because it creates a lot of unnecessary hostility in the community imo. If a Killer tunnels me, I take it as they just really want to win and that's that.
It sucks sometimes but it's the nature of the game right?
It's not like survivors are pushed away from tactics/playstyles/perks that give them short term wins at the cost of long term improvement. Not meant to be a 'us vs them' complaint, I genuinely think it's a good comparison. Instead of learning map tiles or surveying their surroundings, nah just slap on Windows. Why not? It's objectively easier and I wouldn't fault survivors for doing it.
It sucks sometimes but it's the nature of the game right?
Perhaps that will change, my friend! If the anti-tunnel features are as effective as they should be.
-
Honestly I don't tunnel simply because it was frowned upon, I am used to not doing it.

I meant his old dream pallets, not the exploding ones with the aura reveal. Only to clarify.
When you update your Freddy rework concept mention me. I want to see what you‘ve cooked up.
The sad thing is probably that OG Freddy and won’t return like OG Sadako, but we can hope.
Sure will, friend! Though it won't change that much, just a few updates.
And yes, the chances are pretty low. But I am incredibly stubborn. As long as I am here, there will be a demand for Old Freddy's return.

I would have added Freddy my friend, but I‘m not a Freddy player. All the killers I mentioned are ones I play from time to time and I don‘t even own freddy.
If I would add him, I would ask for the original Freddy + the teleport we have at the moment and keeping Dream pallets as a passive.
Haha, fair enough my friend.
Actually, the idea of mixing Dream Pallets with his original kit was something I discussed with other Old Freddy players from time to time.
Personally, I wouldn't add the Dream Pallets we have today as a passive, but their original design could work. As for the current teleport, absolutely. I need to update my Freddy concept to reflect that, now that I think about it.

For ghost face speed buff, that was a problem with old legion, like old-old legion. They tried making his power work or not by making it based around being in chase, and it created a very wonky counter play meta that was full of moonwalking. I wasn't there for it, but it sounded really bad. I think they could make it work if they gave him like a base kit version of the fearmonger thing: in other words if a survivor isn't looking at you, gain 5% haste, only it would require him to have his night shroud active.
I wasn't there for it, but it sounded really bad
It was. The original Legion is one of the few things from the Old DBD that I do not miss, and that is saying something.

Maps having a horror vibe again would be awesome. Behavior needs to make an update for dedicated to athmosphere.
How do you feel about the desert realm? I‘m fine with it, but I wished you couldn‘t look as far.
Forsaken Boneyard?
Honestly, I am not a fan of the overall aesthetic of the map, but Eyrie of Crows is basically the only map in the game that has a decent level of Fog if you use a Murky Reagent, so that is something nice about it.

Agree, so much of the dark and gloomy horror vibe has been lost and while the updated graphics did get really dark at ultra settings, with the default gamma being a lot higher I think they could afford to bring back some of the night time ambience. Ya know, like a horror game lol
Indeed, my dear friend, I feel like the aesthetic and horror vibe was really hurt by the map reworks, Coldwind is the one that suffered most but it isn't the only one either.
The game would benefit from actually making an effort to be scary, as it used to.

Honestly, same, my friend. And I would like to have the Fog back, actual Fog from the early days.

Yes, that would be nice to have.
I would choose the All Hallows' Eve background and never change it again!

Well, I understand that it can be really frustrating to not enjoy the direction DBD is going. That happened to me from mid-2019 until, like, 2023, and I know how bad it feels to watch a game you enjoy become something you dislike.
However, I don't think there is much being stacked against killers right now, and the new features from the health update are a good thing, or at least they look promising.
-
It is a mixed bag, really. No easy way to answer this one.
You see, I first started playing DBD in December of 2018, and I instantly fell in love with it. It was, and still is, the best game I had ever played. As the months went by I think BHVR did a fantastic job: the original Mettle of Man was an exception, yes, but everything else was perfect: the content we got was good, things weren't changed unnecessarily, and the things that got changed were justified and made the game healthier with their changes, such as the changes to Decisive Strike and the process of getting rid of Old Legion.
It was the peak of Dead by Daylight for me… until July of 2019 and Freddy's rework. That truly shattered my opinion of this topic, it was, in my personal opinion, the worst change ever done in DBD and the worst change that will ever be done to this game. I was playing the day it dropped, and it is easily my worst day of playing this game.
Unfortunately, I think things got even worse from that point. Freddy has my priority, of course, and nothing will have as big of an impact for me as his rework had. But, to a lesser degree, what I said about Freddy also happened to countless other things: other killers, perks, maps, even the game's aesthetic. It got so bad that at one point it didn't even feel like DBD, it felt as if you were playing something else entirely. I really disliked it.
Then we get to 2024, and I think things actually got better that year. I think most (not all, but most) changes made to the game that year were good, the content we got was fun, Haunted by Daylight event in particular, and overall I think it was a good time to be playing DBD. I even felt hopeful again, for the first time in years… then came the Freddy changes earlier this year and shattered everything again, by not fixing the mistake of 2019, when they could have.
And now? I am not sure. I'm looking forward to the upcoming FNAF chapter, the health updates seem promising, and I'm ready to start insisting on Old Freddy's return once again. But I think I'll have to be more careful regarding my own expectations from now on.
-
Good news, I would say.
Maybe we will finally move away from the extremely chase-oriented mindset that has been prominent in DBD for the last four years.
-
I like this idea!

I think The Ghoul is kind of a design failure to be honest.
He’s one of those killers that’s doomed to be unfun for one side regardless of how they tweak the balance.
Either he’s allowed to get free injuries to make up for the fact that his power can’t directly down (much like Legion). And in doing so is very frustrating for survivors.
Or they drastically reduce his ability to get free injuries to make him funner to play against but in doing so he’s going to be frustrating to play since his power can’t down.
The only way to make him good for both sides would be to rework. But then they’re alienating the people who like him as he his.
So it’s a lose-lose-lose.

actually it's very fun and actually a balanced way of skill determining due to sheer A team killer vs. B team survivors/B team killer vs. A team survivor being the best way to actually balance all things out.
Agree to disagree, friend, I personally don't think it would be fun.

I know it was suggested at some point, during a survey if I recall correctly, but I do believe a 5v5 mode isn't a good idea, especially because this type of gameplay is better suited for games of different genres.
I don't think it would work or even be fun in DBD.

While I do think DBD shouldn't have moved away from its hide and seek aspect, I am not sure what does it have to do with queue times.

@Pulsar said:
That isn't why people tunnel, we know this.
During the best time period for Killers, directly after 6.1.0, there was still rampant tunneling and camping. This was at the height of Eruption, Overcharge, Call of Brine, PR, Corrupt, DMS etc etc. This was pre addon nerf Blight times.
So why did people still tunnel if they didn't need to?
Because they could and it got results.
There are some matches where you do need to tunnel. These are few and far between. Teams that are genuinely so good that you have no other recourse are exceedingly rare. Most players tunnel because the amount of skill you need to successfully tunnel someone out (and thereby astronomically raise your odds of winning) is far lower than the skill (and coordination) required to prevent a tunnel out.
This is the crux of the issue. Tunneling is too much of a boon for how little skill it takes to pull off.
Tunneling either needs to be less impactful on the match or it needs to be much more difficult to execute.
Well said, my friend.
Most tunneling is done because it can be done, you will rarely ever come across a situation where you have no choice but to tunnel someone out of the game.
I think the new anti-tunnel features, whatever they are, have the potential of being one of the healthiest changes in a long time.

Y'all will never be happy with anything the devs do
To be fair, I can confidently say I was very happy with DBD before July of 2019, back then I really had no complaints about it.
But back to the topic at hand, I think the complaints here are justified. Especially regarding Legion, this killer just kills the fun in 2v8.
-
Good question.
I think most of the issues I have with DBD have more to due with overall design rather than how strong or weak they are. It has been this way since July of 2019, I'd say.
When it comes to balance, I'd like to see a few improvements for the survivor side, maybe revert some of their perks and resources back to what they used to be.
-
Well, I got back to DBD, like, yesterday, but my experience so far hasn't been great. This 2v8 isn't fun for survivor, especially if Legion is in the game.

Still hard to believe it happened to me twice, with the same character.
Being a Freddy main in particular was genuinely not a good choice. But I truly love the character, so what could I do?

While there is another fight going on here over an official answer. Maybe it's time to just draw conclusions? Killers have nowhere to expect help and equal rights with the surviving side. Coming to the forums, we will simply receive indifferent answers and minuses from the defenders of the survivors.
Therefore, the only conclusion we can make. Get another incentive to tryhard. Strong killers with 4 slowdown perks, playing as if your life depends on it. After all, if the survivor does not survive to the gate, he will not be able to make a t-bag. We must take the problem into our own hands in the only way available to us, even if the other side suffers from it.
DBD has long lived by the principle when 5 people load into the game. One of them will definitely suffer. It does not matter if it is a survivor or a killer, but he will definitely suffer. The only question is who? Who will take on the role of a martyr? For myself, I decided that someone else will suffer. Not me.
As a history lover, I want to share some statistics with you. On December 5, 2020, there were statistics published by the developers of T-Bag. You can even find that video if it hasn't been deleted.
The North remembers...
DBD has long lived by the principle when 5 people load into the game. One of them will definitely suffer. It does not matter if it is a survivor or a killer, but he will definitely suffer. The only question is who?
I kinda agree with this one, in a way. I wouldn't necessarily say someone is expected to suffer, but I do think that actions and strategies that were generally frowned upon by most of the community have been… well, not normalized per se, but they became something players expected to happen, especially in recent times.
But now that the killer side and its strategies are being changed, or at the very least affected by changes, people expect the same to apply to survivors and their actions. They may not be perfectly equivalent to one another, but the logic here makes sense.

@Aven_Fallen said:
Strength-wise he is fine. Not a big fan of him being able to teleport to healing Survivors, but it is what it is.
He is super-boring tho. Both to play as and to play against.
Yes, that is pretty much it. Though I don't dislike the idea of teleporting to healing survivors.
But you nailed it when you said he is boring, my friend. That definitely remains my problem with him, and it is pretty much the reason why I have not played DBD in months. I feel like I might have stopped posting abruptly, but if I may address it properly now that I'm back:
Overall, I feel like the Freddy changes went in the wrong direction. Obviously no one can deny that Freddy needed changes, this is pretty much undeniable for anyone who played as Freddy or against Freddy from 2021 to 2025. I don't think he was the weakest killer in the game, but he couldn't be left the way he was.
However, the changes made to him failed to help him with the fact that Freddy was in a boring, uninteresting state with nothing unique on his kit, and he had been in that state since July of 2019, a fall from grace when we remember he was once the most unique killer in the game. That was the primary concern, or at least it should have been, and the rework didn't fix it, it just replaced the uninspired aspects of his kit with different but still uninspired aspects, which just happens to be based on other killers than the previous.
I'm happy for the new and remaining Freddy mains out there who are enjoying his current state and having fun with him. Freddy mains deserve the best, they always have. But unless there is another major rework or a "DBD classic 2017 / 2018" event, I just don't see myself playing Freddy ever again.

I’m happy they finally do this. I suggested it way back in a similar form to peanuts as they announced sadako’s second rework.
They should expand it to balance changes to gather feedback in advance for killers, items, addons and perks, so they can improve their suggestions, scrap them or introduce changes that are more requested like clash Royale does it with their balance changes.
I’m kinda hoping for a Sadako design preview, but I will probably be as lucky as @GeneralV and not get back the version I liked (1.0). Unlucky me.
Unfortunately it is something that can happen with every character, at any point. And once a bad change happens, sometimes you'll never see your favorite character again.
Sure, it is the reality of live service games, but no one wants to lose the characters they like.

Well, time will tell, but they've definitely said they're doing something about it soon. Which I take to mean early this year.
I don't have information about Freddy, but afaik they didn't promise anything after his rework about 5 years ago. People were disappointed by the result, but I don't believe they ever promised to go back and revisit him on any kind of time table, nor did they make any measures that they said would be considered temporary at that time either.
I'm not sure why you have so much vitriol toward me in particular since I'm not a dev, just relaying what they told us before the recent sm nerfs. I'm on record as saying that they handled the recent nerfs poorly, but I also didn't have their exact reasoning as to why they thought a "break glass" solution was needed. I can speculate, but that doesn't mean they took the right course of action regardless or communicated it correctly either.

If I recall correctly, there were actually some developments with Freddy after his rework.
For instance, the nerf which deleted the infamous Forever Freddy build wasn't a surprise, it had already been announced before it reached live servers.
And, I do believe I saw a discussion here months ago that claimed Freddy's rework had been planned for a while, but didn't receive priority. I am not sure about this one though, it could be just a theory (A GAME THEORY).
If it is true, however, then it makes the situation even more tragic, because Freddy could have received something much better than this horrible "rework" we've just received.

The perk never really did much of anything, because survivors would still hear the chase music and killers can already mindgame their red stain at tiles.
The one benefit is I guess you could hit BL1, get undetectable, then drop chase and catch someone else off guard. But with only 20 seconds and needing to hit BL1 this isn't an efficient use of time.
Yeah, pretty much.
I do know some people managed to use it effectively when the perk first released, but that was as far as its usefulness went.

Have to agree here. I think that the changes are clearly a Buff and a needed Buff as well. But I dont think that those changes will make me play Freddy. I think he is really boring to play and this does not seem to change, and I honestly dont care if he jumps up a few Tiers or not.
But it is positive that others might find more fun in playing him, just not for me I guess.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3866639#Comment_3866639
Freddys power got changed a few years ago and it was one of the biggest Reworks the game had. And he was also strong, but became pretty boring and easy to play and, the worst of it, he lost all what made him unique.
And up until this day I am pretty sure that the Devs would have been able to save his initial power with pulling people into the Dreamworld by removing things like the Slowdown and the ability to wake up with Skill Checks and adding other things which were added to current Freddy, e.g. the Teleport to Gens or Clocks. Plus a few Buffs here and there and he would have probably been able to keep his power AND be better.
(On the other hand, Doctor also got reworked quite some time ago and this was a good Rework. They kept him roughly the same, but made him stronger and more accessible… Something like that should have happened to Freddy as well).
Well said, my dear friend. While he'll most likely jump a few tiers, the gameplay loop, which was a problem, won't change at all. It seems the murder of everything that made Freddy fun, in 2019, will never be undone.
But it is positive that others might find more fun in playing him, just not for me I guess.
Absolutely. I'm happy for the Freddy mains who liked the changes, but after this long journey it is very clear that Freddy will never again be the character I loved more than any other.
