Given past attempts at balancing things around matchmaking, I would have little faith in the MMR system. In a lot of the games I've been playing in the past few days, it's been an easy game - literally half the time the killer has had one perk. On top of that, I am by no means a good player at all, but I am still better than someone only running a single perk! And how would this work in a SWF too? High MMR survivors playing with their low MMR friends severely disadvantage the latter, because if they're escaping they're not going to have a fun time in solo queue where they'll be way above their heads.
On top of that, my friends have been getting the same end playing killer. While I'm getting matched against one perk killers, they're getting matched with high rank, full sweat build survivors. Sure, it may take a while to balance out but if this is the treatment that new players are going to get it's not going to do the game any favours. Especially since this can also lead people to not try out new killers because of matchmaking like this.
Finally, comes the rank dropping. People already do this in order to face lower ranked survivors/and killers, but it's only going to be so much worse now. Because that swf that just threw the game to de-rank? They just gave the killer a boost in their MMR that could really mess them over, because technically they have just gained a 2/3/4k on that killer to a spot that could give them really un-fun games in the future. The same goes for a killer meme-ing around and farming with survivors to lower their MMR - it messes them over and this is especially important in both scenarios as you get a higher MMR boost if your opponent is ranked way higher than you. So in the end it doesn't fulfil its intended purpose because you can't stop people from playing like this. And there are a lot more things that I'm sure factor into this as well.
In the end, MMR could be a good idea, but the nature of the game and its players leads me to believe it may do more harm than good - and that they should work on fixing the current matchmaking a little more before they try to implement the MMR system, as this may only make some people more frustrated.

For me, up until very recently (Don't judge me) was Premonition. I enjoyed knowing the direction the killer was coming from rather than the effects spine chill had - which I have now swapped it for.
Another perk that I have a hard time letting go of is Lightweight. As someone who's very weak at chases, it helps me avoid more random chases until im confident in my ability to run the killer for the benefit of my team

I liked cyberpunk, I thought it was pretty solid game
I agree :((
Not to turn it into a cyberpunk praising thread..
But the difference between cyberpunk and dbd, is cyberpunk had to release early(in terms of continuous delays) because they were receiving threats from investors and death threats from fans
Dbd.. is probably just having licencing issues, it'd be a miracle if they listened to feedback from players so early on. They're not fixing anything, they're just waiting for the all clear

I was playing survivor with a few of my friends on Coldwind, against a hillbilly who had appeared to be farming. (At the end of matches like that I tend to have the killer kill me so they can get at least a 1k..)
The hillbilly downed me and took me to the exit, so I ended up killing myself via endgame timer. I messaged them to thank them and exchange ggs, and we talked for a bit, where I found out they were actually just starting out on billy, and we're actually a Freddy main. We talked for another 5 minutes and I wished them luck..
A few days later I was playing with my friends again, against a Freddy who absolutely annihilated us, and I recognised the Freddy on post screen as the person who we versed the other day, and I messaged them ggs again - and we recognised each other. We ended up friending one another after.
It's nothing spectacular, but it's something that really sticks out for some reason.. and I hope to be able to see them again as hillbilly someday, to see how far they've come :))

You have written it very well and made a very good point!
it’s also a Good analogy because not every person with an outlandish name can relate because of whatever reason, but there are many that do care about finding their names on that stuff.
i guess for younger generations it’s not so easy to understand because of the globalization and internet and all you can personalize it already.. but I could very well relate to it
Ah thank you.. I just hope it wasn't too hard to read!
I don't know(I guess?) I would qualify as the younger generation.. I'm 18, but my name is.. an older name one could say.. I get about being able to find it on the internet, but there's just something about the idea of being able to find it without having to ask specifically, I guess.. I'm glad you could relate though!

Sexuality has no place in this video game. Why is everybody so hung up on wether the new chapter is going to have an LGBT+ theme? Its a horror game about people getting hung on hooks.
Hmm..
I don't know If this will help, but I have a bad analogy for you. If you read this post that is. Obviously this is nothing like sexuality, but please see it from a whole rep standpoint? If I write it well enough..
I have a very obscure, or unused name. I've not really met people with my name, except from secondhand stories about where I got it from.
So, I can never find my name on the little name plaques and badge stands they have at the $2 store - if you know the ones I'm talking about? And while it may not impact me too much, and other people may not care, I would still get a feeling of joy if I finally saw one, I wouldn't forget it.
Everyone else says that it's not necessary, it's just a nametag, no one is called that anyway.. but their names are up there, they'd be able to find theirs if they looked, so they don't know the even just slight disappointment felt when my name can't be found.
Then one day, I browse a store and it has one of those stands. Even though I know it won't be there I spin it around looking at names - and there it Is! My name! It wasn't made specifically for me, but I now feel happy, because my name is no longer odd; I might not see it again for a while but seeing it brings me joy, because I've finally found what fits me, I can finally relate to having my name on one of those little plaques.
Does it affect much? No. Does anyone else care that it's there? No. But I will remember it as the place that finally had my name amongst all the other names there. It's an option for me.
If that makes sense.. it's half baked.. and I'm bad with words. I'm sorry it took so much up, but my point is.. - and obviously the two aren't comparable because identity is much much more than a birth name, but what I'm tryna say I guess?
Is some people don't notice, or don't think it's necessary to add it, but when they've been included all their life it's hard to relate to those who haven't.. an LGBTQIA+ character in dbd isn't going to affect the game gameplay wise, but it brings joy and a feeling of relation to some people who are. And i think making people feel included is a very important thing..
It's not like it's being made a big deal - as in, the characters sexual orientation and gender identity isn't changing anything - so just because you don't notice it and think it's necessary, doesn't mean others will too.
Sorry, this went longer than intended -_-"

The amount of knives for killer seems a little ridiculous, but I guess that's something that (wishful thinking) may be changed after the ptb..
That being said, he looks quite survivorish, so maybe they justified the former statement from a stealth perspective - like how it's easy for some people to mistake stealthing pig as killer? They expect it to be possible to get close to survivors to make throwing knives easier?
I haven't played either yet though, so I don't know If that's viable.. just speculation.

Overdone makeup is funny as why clowns wear it. If you google clown I'm sure you will find many pictures of clowns wearing makeup. My point is that clowns wearing makeup is a tradition so The Clown wearing makeup in dbd is not at all unusual. However a survivor with bright and massive pink hair, huge fake eyelashes and overdone makeup being chased by a killer is so rare that it's probably never crossed your mind until now.
Ok? And the picture you provided - only one picture, may I add, after someone previously provided several photos of other drag queens, who you may find "unproblematic", if you really have no problems with gender fluidity or lgbt - how do you not perceive that yours isn't at least a little tongue in cheek? You want another example outside clown? What about Jeff's rip-off Kiss makeup?
You have feng cosmetics with bright pink and blue hair, where's your issue with that?
You've even got survivors running around in floor length dresses and onesies, and dressing as elves and boxes.
And even after all that.. Has it ever occurred to you, OP, that it is optional to just not buy or play a survivor? It's really not that hard. Or is this thread just to bash other people's preferences, because you don't want anyone else playing them? In a game, why are you paying do much attention to the face of a survivor that you're not playing?
Don't say that would ruin the aesthetic when you've got so many other bright, overdone cosmetics around. Unless your issue really is with the fact you don't like people straying out your perception of gender stereotypes, and that there'd be no problem here if the character was a woman, instead of a drag queen.

A lot of people would rather blame someone/something else rather than their own skill, and find it easier to do so. Really the only thing you can do is be kind /happy or non-caring.. People who are just trying to shift blame won't keep it up, and the people who are salty just for the sake of it are just gonna keep it up - Might even make them saltier, which'll just be amusing to watch if you don't let it get to you. Or at least.. thats my take of it
-
A killers aim.. Is based on skill? Trying to hit a moving target can't be easy - That's why you shouldn't run in a straight line. But I didn't mean you needed skill to play him. I said you needed skill to play him well, play him so you come out with high kill counts every time you use him. But you can "outplay" him in a manner similar to that of Huntress - dodging and weaving - but there are a few killers that get harder to beat depending on maps.
One of the points I was trying to make, though I didn't explicitly mention it (though I probably should have, to be honest) is that as he's only just come out, no real solid counterplay has been formed.
It shouldn't have to be all dependant on terror radius. Like I'd said, the difference in perspectives (1st v 3rd) mean that, unless he's absolutely certain of your exact location means you'll see him before he sees you and unless he comes around the corner with a precise ADS or into range, there is time to get away. You're not always gonna get away unscathed, but its about optimising both distance and surrounding environment so that if he gets you, its unlikely to result in a hit. Turn his range into a disadvantage because the further he shoots, the riskier it is to reel in. use the time to shift infront of an object. He already slows when he goes into ADS mode.
I would only say extend TR as a result of an add-on instead. Give him a sound if he aims in your direction, but aside from that, utilise perks and other senses to locate him.
I'm sorry, that wasn't meant to be a wall, I can't compact things very well ;-;
-
Deathslinger is pretty fine the way he is. To be honest, I haven't really seen many people playing him lately (1 over the past few days).
Ok, there's a way to make him stealthy? There's a lot of ways to make a killer stealthy. But he can't down people just by using his gun. If you don't want to worry about getting stealth hit, bring something like Premonition or Spine Chill. Some kinda intel perk that'll inform you if he's near - and guess what? It'll work with other killers too! Utilise your 3rd person camera, look behind you in chases or while doing gens. He can't shoot through walls, nor can he see through them. Meaning, if you can see him, he MIGHT (first person perspective) see you, and you've got time to make some distance. A gen in a closed off space is fine because you'll be in his TR before he comes into view, so you'll still hear him before you see him while he likely won't have a solid idea of your whereabouts.
Any killer can be good at high ranks if someone puts enough practise into it, but there are simply some that are naturally "better" for it than others. Deathslinger at high ranks are hard to face? I'd hope so! I'd hope any high rank killer is a challenge. High rank Huntress is deadly too. There's always someone who will be skilled with a killer and absolutely dominate with them. Games aren't supposed to be easy, you're not supposed to escape every game no matter the skill level. There shouldn't be a solid way to beat every single killer with the exact same tactic. You're complaining about him because he's different, because you can't use the same old tricks. Killers aren't here to teach you anything, especially other killers or how to loop.
Looping? Isn't a problem. I am by far, no where near skilled at chases, but I know that if he's really desperate to shoot you with his gun.. Loops are great! He's like looping Huntress, if Huntress couldn't down you with her hatchets, and had a small stun every time she missed a throw. He's not supposed to be looped like "every other" killer - so many killers have different looping mechanics built into their ability anyway! Spirit can phase around loops faster, Clown can slow loops with a bottle in moments when outspeeding him is crucial, Trapper and Hag can place traps around loops and windows - perks like Spirit Fury and Bamboozle can help end chases quicker, Huntress can chuck a hatchet at you and injure you from the other side of the loop. Really the only difference is that everyone's learned how to counter these killers - There's no second thought when getting chased by these killers because they've been around enough that we have these cautions in our heads in a chase; It's Spirit, watch the grass, it's Huntress, don't run straight and preemptive pallets won't work, it's Clown, mindgame his bottles and stay ahead enough, Trapper, be cautious around pallets and windows, try to scope out your area pretty well before you work on it.
-
Some people are going to be salty when they lose. Just ignore it, they don't like not getting their way. As for stalking.. Uh.. Were they expecting you to just.. Not use your ability? And (no offense) with Ghostface of all killers? Like.. You can counter Ghostfaces ability literally just by looking at him. If they're going down primarily because of the stalking, 1) Nice job :) and 2) .. If they aren't even watching their surroundings in a way that keeps getting them stalk-downed.. Then theyre gameplay isn't top shape, and probably deserved to lose..
Sorry -_-''

I completely agree with this, and actually, I'm curious to know what the small influx of NoED complaints is about?
But NoED is, like all other hex perks, a risk for the killer to wind up with only 3. Specifically NoED, which has no use til all gens are done, so if it's removed before then, the killer is spending the ENTIRE match without that fourth perk - Other hexes at least are in action from the get go.
Not doing totems is a choice. If you actively choose not to do them and get hit with NoED, don't complain. You were aware of the risk. There are SO many counters to this, too. You've got perks like Small Game and Detectives Hunch to let you see totems. Don't wanna use a perk slot? Bring a map, you can see them with maps too. Totem spawns aren't COMPLETELY random, there's a number of spots each map for them to spawn and even then, theres a pattern you can follow that leads you to the rest once you find just one totem - I use that pattern often myself.
NoED doesn't really come out of nowhere? It would at no point be fair to the killer if NoED, a perk that doesn't even activate until the end of the game, glow like it was the entire game? A totem glows when it's active. NoED is already a risky perk for both survivor and killer as it is, and people will keep bringing it as long as it keeps working. And why does it keep working? Because people would rather come to the forums or respective communities and complain about how it's an unfair perk instead of trying to counter it in game by doing totems.
Sorry for the wall ://

If you want to play with me sometime, my psn is EarthToGravity. (Same as my name here) I don't really use a mic often, but if you're playing and I happen to also be playing, we could team up to make sure we don't run into toxic teammates.
I don't think I reported them, which is my biggest regret in the past two weeks.
I absolutely hate it when people mess around in the basement like that. It's so annoying.
I feel like people play like this because they lose one too many games and just decide to ruin the fun for some random person they don't know because there are no consequences.
Ayy, sure thing! I haven't been playing too often as of late, so I'm probably not a very appealing rank anymore, but feel free to hmu anytime ye wanna squad up!
I think its become a lot easier for toxic people to appear, with MM problems and all too, cause survivors might spot a new player and decide to make their lives hell.. I see it all too often with "baby" killers and it's really sad, cause thats no way to learn the game for them.
-
I think maybe the problem for you is a combination of matchmaking, and "unbalanced" maps - quotation because I feel that yes, indoor 2 level maps do lean toward killer, but only in the sense that the map almost disables certain perks (spine chill, premonition, etc) of survivors and better enable others of killers perks and powers (infectious fright, Docs shock therapy, etc).
But the main issue seems to be matchmaking. I think if MM was solid and consistent in giving similar skill levels, your games would be a lot more unpredictable and fun, as both killer and survivor.. Probably.. sorry -_-
-
And I'm sorry that was so long -_-
-
I have a ps4, I'll be your friend XD
But seriously, that's a trash thing to do, and is a reason there's such an awful stigma surrounding SWF groups. I see it not a lot, but into occasionally get into games where the rest of the team is absolutely trash to the rest of the team and the killer.
I remember one game I had, they weren't necessarily griefing the killer, or going out of their way to do so, but they were all just goofing off in the basement the entire game - jumping in and out the closets and thats it. I was the first hooked, and almost died. I was saved once and thats it, and the killer was fed up with them too.
I really don't get why some people are like this, especially now with how matchmaking works, would be very harmful to new players, specifically killers.
Unfortunately as it stands now, all you can do is report them, and I don't know how effective that would be. I think maybe, to combat it, they should add what is happening with the Mori animation, so that it's fixed once started, but only if out of terror radius (to prevent fair players getting pulled off or hit during.)
-
I guess you can just go back to survivor then! Though you had a ball complaining about how killer-sided the game was, so at least it'll be a tad more challenging for you, right?
-
No offense to anyone, but coming from a survivor main perspective, I think noed is completely fine how it is.
The counter is the simplest thing in the world: do totems. If you choose not to, then you're running the risk.
I personally try to break as many as I can find, but that's more of an I'm-bad-at-chases-and-dont-want-to-get-no-boldness-points rather than risky noed, but I don't doubt that has saved me or my teammates hides before..
-
I'd like to think they're pretty comparable, because while yes, the killers objective is obviously to kill survivors, the survivors objective is technically to escape. If there were other ways aside from gens that helped reach that goal, then gens would not be the main objective - they'd be half of that.
Yeah, the Mori can be activated quicker, but really so can keys main power if the holder wants the hatch. It's that easy to let your teammates die. Keys can also allow a survivor to see the killer, and I make this point because people who really want, can base an effective build around using that key to it's full use, which killers can't do cause that's basically just a hook build anyway.
Both are objects that are used to reach objective quicker. And you know what? Both will cost you points, most likely. You get less for a mori kill, and you get less points for escaping before gens are done due to less objective points.
A Mori can be highly situational too - it's not always an ebony, you're not always going to have a 4 person Mori. Just like hatch. A lot of killers use their moris too, in my experience, after a second hook if they've got an ebony - something that as a result, essentially would work the same as a fully activated Devour Hope. Bringing a mori in retaliation to a key simply says to me, "you want to end the game quicker? Ok then. But I'll try my best as to not let that happen in your favour."
If the key survivor dies, it's not that hard for the next to pick it up. Presence of a key means possible chance of early escape for any survivor, not just the one who brought it.
-
Whenever I tea bag at Gates (if at killer) its usually as a gg, had fun game well played ill see you around..
So I'm starting to think I'm just unintentionally looking like an ******* when I'm trying to be nice.. I sure hope not though, id feel pretty bad about that if so ://
I personally don't like it to be toxic, nor really as a response to someone being toxic to you cause they're just gonna go off like they did nothing in the first place n I'm not gonna risk my escape to taunt someone who is decidedly toxic. A toxic killer losing the game is karma on them so don't give opportunity to get more cause ye tried to taunt them back.
That's imo, anyway..
-
I mean.. personally in my experience as a survivor, I take tea bagging at the gate as a goodbye/final acknowledgement of game played, or as communication to fellow survs while waiting for the rest of the team.. a simple double tap of L2 (I play console) and I hope they had a good time.
I see how it can look toxic though, like a continuous tea bag at gates to mock the killer but I try to look as not-like-that as possible. Tea bagging throughout game at killer though is pretty toxic however.. and I feel like with how recent matchmaking is going is pretty horrible and I'd imagine frustrating for the killer://
-
As a survivor main, I don't mind the 'Boop the Snoot' meme.. not because it gets me in easy with the killer or anything like that, I just think it's a kind of a nice idea and a way to create a kind of friendliness between sides.. though i actually don't encounter it that much :(
That being said, I think that the meme should be the killers only, and survivors should not try to initiate it. It's almost like throwing, and the other hand of the situation has a killer perhaps feeling like they have to conform to the meme.. I guess?
I like the idea of the meme, but it should be left up to the killer whether or not happens. Don't try boop the snoot the moment you see a pig. If the killer wants to do, they will initiate it. Don't try do it for them.
-
For me, a lot of the time I wait at the gate for the other survivors, especially if I don't know where they are so that I can help i see they're in a chase as they approach.. I'd feel bad for leaving someone on a hook (most of the time this just gets me killed too but stillll)
I also like having fun with the killer? Like.. not the toxic get good kinda way but sometimes we (both survs and killer) mess around at the gate. I don't really know how to thank the killer for the game without messaging them (I'm on ps4 and sometimes it doesn't work) so that's really the best I can do I guess -_-'
-
People complain about survivor sided-ness in reference to perks, not the survivors themselves.
You can't have OP survivors, but you can have OP killers. Referring to a killer as OP would reference the killers ability, not their perks..
People complain about survivor sided-ness because from some of the set ups, it can be perceived that many of the things available to survs is greater than that of the killer (e.g. availability of useful 'second chance' perks..)
If survivors had their own specific ability or they introduced a survivor whose perks were all so good you could use them in every build, a survivor could be OP.
However, with the recent update this may die down a bit, as the recent reworks are helping recentre the balance of the game..
Buuut Idk.. sorry
-
No, killers don't have second chance perks, which can be considered unfair in the sense that, comparing the abundance to lack of second chance perks looking at Survivor v. Killer, that a single mistake can cost the killer the entire match while survs can mess up until they get into a patch they can't crawl out of..
But the problem Is, if they were to create second chance perks to killers, how would this be implemented? What is the basis for the second chance perk? How does it work?
There would be a few problems with balancing these perks, and I say this, because the survivor second chance perks have a various number of ways as to ensure a lesser likelihood of abuse. E.g. there would have to be something similar to an exhausted status, or have a limited use, like exhaustion on dead hard or the one use on decisive..
I don't know.. sorry -_-'
-
Uh.. some of y'all are aware that OP is ****posting right..? Like.. people who are getting full on riled up.. You do know OP isn't being serious..?
On one hand, I do quite enjoy these threads cause they're amusing, and sometimes the replies from people taking it seriously is kinda wholesome..
But some of y'all are getting real aggressive with that thinkin is serious and honestly.. I get you don't agree but some of y'all are full on attacking OP..
So uh.. didn't realise inexperience meant you aren't allowed to have an opinion, so that's nice I guess ://
-
Im a survivor main, PS4, purple/red rank. And imo.. These changes mean absolutely nothing, in relation to "catering to the new players". Ok. Make it less frustrating for new survivors then. Fix the matchmaking, so that new players won't be frustrated by the imbalance of rank in games.
Or.. are you only catering to new survivors? Yeah.. sounds about right I guess.. Literally, the lack of killer enjoyment is the reason for stuffed matchmaking.
That is destroying itself. Doesn't matter if the new people want to play if they can't get matches because killer isn't fun anymore, so they get matched with high killer. And it's too difficult to try and maintain rank when you go up against crazy high tier survs. Killer needs to be more interesting, and more fair. There shouldn't have to be restrictions on which killer you should or shouldn't use in certain ranks.
If they really want to cater to new players.. they'll balance the damn game, because it is possible to pull in New players and keep the veteran ones, for both sides. I know it has the potential to do that, it CAN do that. It needs to address the underlying issues first. These changes would benefit both sides a whole lot more if they did, and they would not lose player base.
Because it's a giant cycle. And it will continue to be if they continue looking only at new survivors. How? Matchmaking, being as it is, and putting inexperienced players with high experienced teammates and killers with perks that newer players shouldn't be exposed to yet(ruin, perfect example actually, because hag must be bought & levelled for ruin) and as a result, devs look at it and decide to nerf it because it's "too frustrating" for new players. Result? More disadvantage to killers, who will keep quitting, and no one will keep wanting to play as them. Result? Worse matchmaking, longer wait. Not too appealing to the new survivors.
It used to be like actually levelling up, in a way. The higher you got, the more different perks you'd be exposed to, not just because of experience(so ideas for better builds) but because the higher you got, the more variety there was, people buying and unlocking dlc perks and things.. y'know.. when people actually wanted to play killer a little bit more..
Next time they get random people to test a change.. get them to do it from both sides. Not just survivor.
This game won't exist without killers, and the way things are going.. they're making it real hard for them to want to stay ://
.. sorry
-
Im the survivor going up against the low killer.. red/purple rank, getting paired with green/brown. I don't even remember the last time I played against a same colour killer as me.. and the thing is, it's only been lower rank killers. No high red ranks. It's so unfair, to both sides. Too easy for high rank survs to pip and near impossible for the low rank killers they may go up against.
Wait times are becoming insane as a survivor, too. And honestly, fair enough. I don't play killer. At all. And from what I've seen and experienced as a survivor, I don't feel particularly inclined to do so again. I won't gain any experience from being thrashed by people with over half the whole set of rank difference.
So? All these changes to cater to new players? No. Only if you're a new survivor. No new killer will get much enjoyment out of this. Fix balance/fun. Make people actually want to play killer. Literally, fixes all these problems - more killers = shorter matchmaking and a wider range of killers to be matched against, that is within the tier.
..sorry
-
Oh yeah.. I'm a purple/red survivor and last time I played, only got one game in the span of an hour.. and the killer was around rank 13?
Pretty sure someone else I know waited for longer..
It's ridiculous. I'd say it needs to be fixed(It definitely does, this is unfair) but the problem is more deeply rooted to the fact that, due to what seems to be a survivor bias resulting in nerfs that making killer a whole lot less fun.. it's a cycle too, because wrecked matchmaking is also contributing to loss of killer fun..

See.. IMO, the thing is, killers really aren't OP - of course, they have been in the past, but a lot of the more questionable nerfs have been to placate survivors, either entitled or new.
But another thing is, and no offense to anyone, but red rank takes much more skill to maintain as killer compared to survivor.. which is one of the reasons some people are quick to call for "OP killer nerf!!!!". Because when you get red rank killers obliterating red rank survivors it can be hard to see the difference. Again, not meaning to offend anyone with this. And I believe also, this is due to the emblem system requirements of killers compared to survivors. Of course, there are some greatly skilled red survivors, but the way the two systems are set, requires lower effort on behalf of survivor, and best possible effort on behalf of killer - meaning they'll get skills quicker due to harsher requirements to meet.
In no way am I saying that the emblem system for killer is ok, but on that note, neither is survivor. Finding a possible balance between killer/surv emblem system may be a big step, and from there, ranking. Idk though, I am pretty stupid

Sure, BHVR won't collapse and this game probably won't die off just yet.. But the fact of the matter is that people are quitting and have been quitting due to these and similar changes. Yeah, some will come back, but many also won't.
It's not a matter of the skill of the killer or whatever, it doesn't matter if anyone can 4k without Ruin or not.. People quit because the fun is being sucked out of playing killer and it's becoming more of a gruelling task than a fun game. People are quitting because, even if the nerf ends up being good, BHVR isn't looking into the core reasons people run it, they're not addressing the underlying issues.. just looking at statistics and deciding that too many people use it.

I think, while yea, both sides can be toxic and/or whiny, one of the main reasons people seem to notice complaints about nerfs coming from the killer side is due to the ratio of killer Nerfs over Buffs - the killer needs could be considered bigger than survivor nerfs as 1) there's ALOT of good perks to use instead of the one that got nerfed that may have a similar effect(not a good e.g., but say SB got nerfed, and people switched to dead hard to get a better sprint effect.. Idk, point is, there are quite a few perks w/ similar mechanics) and 2), killers themselves get outright nerfed. Can't do that to survivors because they're just a perk set with no specific base-kit abilities, just perks. As a result, it can make a killer almost useless.
I think a lot of salt messages like that comes from.. I guess survivor entitlement? Where once again survivor fun is more important than killers and that definition of fun is that in which they can grief the killer.. A good killer doesn't exist, they're a bad sport if they kill everyone and they suck if someone escapes.. I found a lot of people are salty just for a reaction and want to make you mad. Agreeing with literally everything or showing you don't care gets them riled up

No dedicated servers on console, some bugs aren't fixed as quickly if it's console only too, pretty sure.
Correct me about the latter if I'm wrong.
Some of the control and maneuvers can be a little bit harder to pull off too.

I think that the ruin should remove great skill checks, similar to what it's like to destroy one of the demogorgons portal, and remove the hex part. It doesn't regress gen time, but it doesn't boost it either. Additionally, it can kind of make it harder to see, as the great part of a skill check makes it obvious when to go. You'd just be looking for two little white lines and a sound to indicate there's a check.
-
I somewhat understand changing Ruin to give newer players a chance, but they also mentioned that another reason is so it's not frustrating on veteran players.. newbies shouldn't be playing with veterans unless it's a SWF.. they justified changing Ruin based on a problem they haven't fixed yet - matchmaking.
But that's not even touching on the fact that, say matchmaking was at a good place, new players would be facing new killers. New killers, who would likely not have Ruin unless they're playing Hag.
On top of this, Ruin can also serve as a training in this sense. Survivors are encouraged to hit great skill checks because that prevents gen regression. There's no encouragement outside of ruin because yes, great skill checks without boost progression, but you're also guaranteed to progress unless you stuff up completely - so it's optional as to whether or not you hit great or good. As a result, you'll end up getting quite a few higher players who have trouble hitting great checks.
In fact, I know someone who got better at getting great skill checks just because of Ruin. Honestly, it will help new players get better at checks.

This thread has really escalated but I'm going to share my piece.. as a survivor main, I guess?
It doesn't matter whether or not you as a killer use ruin. That's not the topic.
It's not about the judgement of another killers skill based on whether or not you run ruin.
Honestly, skill has nothing to do with it. You can 4k without Ruin? Good for you, you found a playstyle you like in which you don't need to use it. Other people have other playstyles that may depend on the use of ruin and/or other perks to be able to properly do.
The ability to win with or without Ruin isn't the problem.
The problem is that this nerf was created without addressing the underlying problems as to why people always run this perk. This nerf can safely be called survivor sided imo, because it's not taking into account WHY people run it. Again, this doesn't necessarily relate to skill, and if it did? Then the devs are survivor sided, favouring fresh survivors over fresh killers.
And yes, I believe people are going to quit killer over this. Not just the red rank killers, but the fresh killers who run Ruin, fresh killers who are already screwed over by the matchmaking system and getting put with way higher ranked survivors. Killers who are sick of these "balanced" changes. Honestly, if they were going to nerf ruin like this, it should be added to the base-kit of all killers because it's still a totem, and totem hunters WILL find it before it's activated.
It doesn't even address the problems that are going to stem from this. With the amount of things broken in the game right now, you're likely to see a rise in tunnelling and camping to get kills, because the gens are going too fast to get an appropriate pressure on. Don't get offended if you don't think it will apply to you, or if it will. These nerfs are slowly sucking the fun out of killer, and turning it into a mission. People stop playing because it isn't fun. Not because people find it impossible to play without it.

Ruin is perfectly fine as it is. From what im seeing, I will say, literally everyone saying otherwise and that the ruin nerf is necessary.. is a survivor main.. And from what it sounds like to me, survivor mains who feel like it's their right to an easy game and to escape every single match.
Yes, a lot of the time I will say that I don't believe gen-rushing exists, based on my own experiences where I have no idea there are other people doing gens til they pop.. but now, taking notice of fellow survivors I can say that in some senses, such as SWF groups(due to the coordination/knowledge of gens) maybe it does. However, while I agree it's our objective to do gens, the issue is NOT ruin, because the killer stands no chance when things like this happen. And with the screwed up matchmaking, it's becoming more and more common with low rank killers getting smashed by higher rank survivors. The problem is that survivors need second objectives, just as important as the generators. Gen-rushing can have a lot to do with lack of pressure, but that is not the killers fault. All it takes is one mistake for a killer and the game is lost. Survivors have room for multiple mistakes, and this is an imbalance that MUST be recognised and fixed.
Y'all saying Git Gud to killers? Telling them to quit if they don't like it? Ok. Enjoy your even longer matchmaking times. Why don't you switch to killer for a bit to test it out? Oh wait, no, let me guess, you're a rank 1 red killer who knows how "balanced" it is. If not? Yes, go play killer. If you stop, feel free to tell me why you aren't enjoying it. Getting gen-rushed? Guess you gotta Git Gud. Toxic Survivors? Git Gud. Stop complaining. Tell me how you find the emblem system. Play just as relaxed as you would as a survivor. How far will you get?
You shouldn't use killers having to get 3/4k kills per match as "balanced" to justify getting rid of ruin. The killers know this isn't fair either but they have to work their ######### asses off if they want to keep their ranks. This is a breeze for Survivors, because they can still double pip even if they die(self healing gives survival points). Like, you are complaining that killers get 3/4k per game but when they get gen-rushed or bring in ruin they aren't skilled and need to git gud? Nah dude. What, Ruin is a "clutch" perk? Sure. Fine, once again, be my guest and play without ruin. Sure, it's possible but Ruin helps balance a game out, because the other option is to just use the few killers that could cope without it. Then What? Y'all come back to the forums and talk about how these few useable killers need a nerf?
You shouldn't go ahead and bless the ruin nerf without looking at the underlying problems. Why is there such a high percentage using it? Even in red ranks? Y'all are about to tell all the killers to git gud for using Ruin, tell it to the new survivors too, who the nerf is apparently being catered for.

I don't really teabag as a way to taunt the killer.. Generally, I'll teabag at other survivors who are at the gate if they're teabagging at me too, while I'm waiting for other survivors. And the times I do teabag at the killer, it's as a way of thank you for the game? If that makes sense? And the occasions that the killer gives up/knows they won't be able to get the hook and spins in circles or swings first. I don't teabag as a way of being toxic.. or at least, I hope it's not appearing that way to the people I'm against..

No need to apologise, just letting you know in case you wanted to check them out and see how they play, or even hear them sharing their own personal opinions about the gameplay 😊
Thanks, I'll find some time :)

Many of the devs do play killer, and stream it publicly. As an example, you can find two of the Community Managers, not_Queen and Peanits, on Twitch here:
Ah, my mistake, sorry

I.. Don't think the issue is necessarily about being rewarded too little or not at all.. I think the way that the emblem system works for the killers in terms of the effects of a DC is entirely unfair in itself.
From what I've seen scrolling through the forums (I'm a survivor main, so I'm sorry if I get anything wrong here..) DC'ing players drastically change the killers ability to pip, since I think it was changed to what.. a 3k or so at least for a pip. That getting into higher ranks it was becoming impossible to pip based off the "balanced" nerfs and buffs to try average around a 2k in a game.. Again, please correct me if I'm wrong.
But my point is, conditions should change based on a DC. A DC for a killer should contribute more to getting a pip than it does. Of course, you can't be sure if the killer would have killed them anyway, but if they had it completely sabotages their score. Because it hardly effects survivors, of course, it does cause a disadvantage because an early game DC ######### over generator work and can often snowball the game, but when this isn't the case, the other survivors are completely capable of double pipping despite the team mate DC. Killers.. don't really have that.
Of course, kills are important for Killers, but when those killers are getting ######### over by the emblem system you know it needs to be changed. It shouldn't rely on amount of kills, especially when it's not considering all the factors out of the control of the killers. And Honestly, this problem is becoming increasingly obvious and exploited given the flaws in matchmaking currently.
I'm sorry

Honestly.. I think next dev stream we need to force them to play killer.
Get them to play killer. Remember the date of the stream. Maybe they'll see just how unbalanced it is. Maybe.. for some unknown reason.. the number of SWF or "toxic" players for some reason increase drastically..
Is that an extreme suggestion? Yes. But soon extreme is what we'll need if the devs keep ignoring the obvious imbalance.
Because killers can't prove this point by taking it out on the survivors. They'll just nerf the killers or buff survivor perks upon their request.
Honestly, it's reaching the point, in my opinion, that we need to prove this point as survivors and not killers.
Maybe not go this far.. but they need to play more killer, and I dare them to say in all honesty, with a straight face, that this game is balanced. From the killer emblem system to how "fun" it is for the people behind the role of the killers.

I play a bit of both. I like them both for different reasons.
SWF allows me to goof off, something that I can't do safely in solo. And by that, I mean things like failing skill checks or say stupid #########. Not because I feel like they'll carry me, it because we all do It, and we all understand it's a joke (we like to joke about not saving each other and ######### like that) and I can't really do that in a solo game, because I don't want to get someone killed or ruin their fun by goofing off in the same way. We don't play in a toxic manner, and really the only time there's been a full escape is due to the bad matchmaking system setting us up with new killers. SWF allows me to have people to joke around with, and I don't have to worry about getting salt from team mates for my behaviour cause we're all just goofing off. It reminds me that it doesn't always have to be so serious.
I like solo because of the quiet, in a way.. While I am at the risk of being screwed over(people who don't go for saves/obviously farm me without care/do toxic things to the killer which makes everyone on the team pay for it) it in a way teaches me to be more independent. By this, I mean that I have more motivation to not get caught, because I don't know if I will be rescued. It also lets me use my perks to their full ability. I'm a stealth survivor, because I can't do chases or loop for #########. So I run things like premonition and empathy. It adds to the suspense, because I don't have anyone to indicate locations.. I'm not explaining it very well.. I don't know how.. I think sometimes I like to be alone, and when I want to play seriously I enjoy the quiet and the immersion without having to focus on both voices and sound effects.
-
As someone who sometimes goes SWF I can say that our level or co-ordination is.. Well, goes about as far as finding out if one if us in a chase(generally a 2-3 man SWF, very very rarely a 4 man) but I feel that SWF groups from my experience of both being in one and potentially being in a lobby with a separate one hasn't been too much of an issue or advantage (my group doesn't all make it out alive) however, solo survivors definitely need a way of communication or some kind of basekit to put that level of information on par with SWF groups.. The way I've been trying to do that is running Premonition + Empathy - I know when a killer is coming close, and if they're chasing an injured near me..
I don't think that voice comms for solos should be the answer though, as that would bring up other problems that can't be solved with a patch, like players with no mics or toxic solos using comms to abuse and troll teammates as well as the killer, and taking into account the people who like playing in silence without having to deal with potential mic spamming from randoms which you can't mute because it's in game. I know this last one applies to me, and as a result I wait for a friend group in certain games that have an in game chat, so we can go party comms instead..
That's just imo though

I see the same problem as a survivor, I'll look at the end match results and either there'll be high/low rank survivors in comparison to the killer. I know for a small while (I'm currently in purple, and that's usually where I'm at too) and I'll be against brown rank or early green killers. Or there's both ends of the scale with red rank killers and green/brown tier teammates.. It's super broken, and really not fun for anyone except the high rank/skilled players..
The whole "Git Gud" mindset is absolutely ridiculous, and bringing up comparisons of other green rank killers smashing a red team is.. I guess kinda untrustworthy? In the sense that you can't really be sure if they're actually a red rank who just hasn't been on for a while. By how OP is talking, they're new in the sense that they didn't get to green via rank reset and have to face against people who are constantly maintaining their red tier ranks or newbies who got chucked in too deep.. OP can also use whatever killer they want? Yes.. Nurse is.. a little bit ######### and probably won't be receiving any buffs but skilled nurses are crazy to go against, and if they wanna main nurse to get on that level, hell yeah dude.. but the matchmaking messes that up, and if it was fixed, starting nurse now is better than later?
Main point though.. Matchmaking = Kinda Screwy
