Twins are strong enough to deal with it. This killer never needed to slug, despite what certain players like to claim. Sending Vic to down a survivor across the entire map has always been a misplay anyway (unless you're proxy camping a hooked survivor).

That's just untrue. You are always going to slug because you need to walk over to where you downed someone to pick them up, and it only takes about 6-7 seconds to heal someone from the downed state with WGLF. If you are saying it is a misplay to chase someone 10~ seconds away from Charlotte then I don't know what to tell you besides please play some Twins for yourself and see how far that gets you.

i believe dev exclusively said in interview that it was nerfed because 1 perk was making aura perks provide no value for no effort. don't think they mention hiding anywhere. It is pretty much free buff to tunneling.

In the developer update they said

"Dev note: Many found a single use of Distortion to be very limiting, so we have reintroduced the token mechanic. These tokens now recharge while in a chase rather than by being in the Killer’s terror radius. This will prevent Distortion from hiding a Survivor for the entire match and reward those who are play well during a chase."

So at the very least people hiding all game was a reason for the nerf. I imagine that it countering too many perks was also a reason for the nerf as well, though.

  • I think WGLF fine against most killers, but The Twins feel awful when someone is using it. There has been quite a few instances where I cannot cross the map before someone is picked up.

  • @PriestessPoppy said:

Old Skull Merchant was weak and whatever, but they can't keep a killer with a 80% killrate in the game. They didn't have time for a full rework and decided to put the killer "on hold" for now so that there are no outliers in their stats. I think this was the best way of doing it. Either that or a Killswitch.

If people giving up and refusing to play against a killer is enough to get them to be completely gutted, doesn't that set a horrible precedent? People seem to really hate Clown and Trickster, so if people give up and decide not to play against them should they also be nerfed into the ground until they can get a full rework?

I really don't think killers should be ruined like that simply because people don't like them, because it will allow people to weaponize it.

  • All of these changes feel awful, but the biggest biggest problems I have so far are the removal of stealth mode, the removal of one beam, and the slowdown when using a drone.

The removal of stealth mode is the most mind boggling choice, as it removes her as one of the very few trap killers we have in the game and makes skull merchant an exclusively anti-loop killer, which is what survivors complained about the most about her in my experience. She isn't even decent at being an anti-loop killer either, due to the bug with laser tagging and the ability to ignore drones entirely if you fast vault. In this regard she feels like a significantly nerfed version of Clown.

The removal of one beam also hurts her significantly in my experience and seems to make her too easy to play around, but that could just be a skill issue, and I could just need to get used to it.

The slowdown is also a baffling choice, as you get a measly 5% haste for tagging a survivor. That is the exact same amount that you slowed down for simply using your power in the first place, meaning you functionally get nothing.

I genuinely think SM might be one of, if not the worst killers in the game now. There is almost never an instance where using your power would be better than M1ing. Even Freddy, who people consider to be a terrible killer at least has some form of map mobility and can slow survivors significantly easier than SM can.

I really hope the upcoming rework actually happens and isn't thrown on the back-burner like Freddy, or abandoned like the Twins were. And if it does happen I hope it at very least brings back her trapping playstyle, because it was so much fun.

  • Given how the Trickster, Sadako, Twins, and Knight reworks have gone, and the fact that the Freddy rework just seems to be forgotten about, I have very little faith that SM will have a decent rework that makes her fun, or even get one at all. The fact that they removed the trap laying playstyle from her in the meantime makes me worried they won't give that back to her once the rework comes around, which would suck, seeing as we have hardly any trap laying killers atm.

I hope I'm wrong though, but given how other works have gone, I feel like there isn't much reason to be hopeful.

  • Huntress by far. Getting hit around corners with a hatchet that flew past you is probably the most frustrating and unfun experience in the game for me.

Plague is also up there, not because I don't like facing her though or think she's too powerful, just because too many people are afraid to play injured and cleanse the moment they get puked on.

  • Unknown. It feels incredibly fair and fun to play against, while also feeling powerful and fun to play as, as well.

  • DbDs matchmaking seems to be uniquely bad in this regard. I don't know if it is the asymmetrical nature of the game that causes problems, but other games, while they have problems, seem to never be as bad as DbD when it comes to making balanced matches.

This clip is probably a hacker though, that last hit shouldn't be possible. Also the weird hand waving slide after the 1st hit.

I watch both killer and survivor streamers regularly, I can tell you that survivors getting downed after pallet stunning the killer is 10 times more common than the reverse, a killer getting the hit denied after getting pallet stunned.

It is in fact, so much in the killer's favor, that a common tactic is to intentionally let survivors pallet stun you while timing the hit at the right time, just to make them waste a pallet and still get the down. I'm doing that several times per day, it is that common. And I see experienced killer streamers do the same.

You have a point though that hackers are able to decide whether they get hit or not, which shouldn't be possible if it was 100% client-sided. But hackers are also able to exploit server-sided things like gen times, so I would take that with a grain of salt, it might be that they found an exploit to mess up hit detection too.

It could be hacker, but I've had similar situations happen to myself and unless there is a huge subtle cheater problem I think it happens too much for it to all be cheaters. The fact that it happens at all though does show its not entirely on the killers connection to decide that a hit is registered. It's definitely more common for BS hits to happen as a survivor though, but there are plenty of times for me where I've cleanly hit someone who has a red bar connection and the hits just don't connect to them.

Either way, this game needs better servers and more server locations. I get put on servers where everyone in the lobby besides one person has 100-200 ping far too often, when that just doesn't happen on other games.

It is the case. The devs have confirmed it. Whether or not some killers ‘miss’ hits is irrelevant to the fact that hits are prioritized based on killer perspective (it has been said multiple times over the years but Peanits stated it again earlier this year. I may try to find the thread and quote him). I don’t remember the last time this was confirmed but in the past the devs have stated grabs are prioritized based on survivor perspective.

If hits were entirely based on the killers perspective though there would never be an instance of a killer hitting a survivor, them screaming and bleeding, and then being uninjured

  • Honestly, if they are going to do nerfs so heavy handed that the killer becomes unplayable they should just remove them from the game until their rework and refund us any cosmetics and money spent on the killer.

  • @Peanits said:

On colourblind filters, I do want to take a moment to clarify that they are not a perfect solution to scratch mark visibility. The filters apply to everything in the game. If someone has a hard time seeing scratch marks on a surface that has red tones (such as in the example we shared), shifting the colour of the scratch marks also shifts the colour of the surface they're on. This can cause them to still be very difficult to see. These new scratch marks have a white glow to them, making them stand out regardless of the colour of object they're on.

I'll leave it to all of you to discuss, but to be clear, it's not meant to be easy to lose the killer while sprinting around. The entire purpose of scratch marks is to reveal your location. If you want to sneak, you shouldn't be sprinting. This is by design.

On the topic of colourblind accessibility, do you think it would be possible to ever allow people to change the colours of certain things in the game/UI such as individual auras for better colourblind accessibility? Overwatch has something like this where you can change UI element colours and it makes the game much more readable as a result.

  • Given that a majority of the most powerful killers are still older ones (Blight, Nurse, Huntress, Billy, ect) I don't think it's really power creep unless new killers start being even more powerful than those ones. Most of the killers that come out recently end up being mostly balanced, or even on the weaker side.

Quick disclaimer here: This is the average of total chase times each match. It does not distinguish between Survivors who are chased often or not chased at all, so it's not a true reflection of a typical chase. One Survivor might be chased for several minutes, but because the Killer is so focused on them, the other Survivors' chase times will be close to zero.

In other words, some may be chased way more, others way less, and all of that averages out to about a minute per match.

It's also worth noting that this is based on the chase mechanic, so it won't necessarily count every second that the Killer is going after someone. If the Survivor runs early and the Killer isn't close enough for a chase to start, for example, that time is not counted even though you'd probably consider them to be in a chase.

That makes sense. I was genuinely shocked at first when I read that, because I feel like you can get more than 20 seconds just holding shift+w against most killers.

Pig hats killing so rarely is kind of surprising too, given how high her kill rate is in lower mmr. I would have thought most of it comes from survivors having trouble getting the hats off and dying to them.

  • Not a huge fan. Primary complaints are the new item notifications now appearing in the character select menu and the new font size in game being too small

slowdown perks are not hard to deal with vs permanent aura reading. At least killers don’t know my location the entire game.

The aura reading is not permanent. All you need to do is pick up the item and if you want to it be out of play permanently you can just drop it at a deadzone or corner, but I guess that's too hard so you need it to be nerfed, yeah?

  • Something needs to get nerfed because people are too lazy to learn the simple counterplay of picking up your items?

If it does get nerfed I hope you enjoy people going back using 4 slowdown perks instead, though.

  • It's been like this since around the switch to unreal 5, it feels like. There's absolutely a noticeable delay in scratch marks and occasional large gaps their placement. It's pretty noticeable if you run fixated.

  • After the massive amount of feedback on the knight changes this is all we're getting? Really not looking forward to this update unfortunately.

  • I really wish this would happen. There were so many times during the anniversary event where I was trying to 2 hook everyone then let everyone go and I accidentally killed someone because I lost track of hook stages. Plus, if someone wants to tunnel its super easy to remember a single persons hook states, so it wouldn't really make in impact on that.

  • Huntress Lullaby, Deception, Diversion, Red Herring, Mirrored Illusion and Call of the Brine are all perks I would love to be stronger. Perks for tricking and deceiving the killer are always fun, and having some other weaker regression perks buffed on killer would provide some much need variety.

    Do you feel that this:

Person A: This happens to me a lot

Person B: No, it doesn't. Even though I'm not you and have no understanding of what happens to you I'm going to say that doesn't happen to you even though I have no proof that it doesn't.

    represents gaslighting.

If you don't think that's gaslighting I'm more than happy to use another term. This is pretty ironic, though, considering we would be arguing about a definition of a word in a thread where the OP's argument rests on saying there's only one interpretation of a word (well, that and incomplete, faulty data) and multiple people have stated different definitions that meet the overall criteria of 'Killer attempts to remove one survivor from a game before any other survivor'.

If anything, it should help illustrate how flawed the OP's argument is .

Saying I don't believe you or I think you are exaggerating, or there is a negativity bias at play because no proof has been provided is not gaslighting, and it also is not gaslighting to say that someones definition of tunnelling is incorrect and differs from the agreed upon definition. It is absolutely absurd to say that someone is psychologically abusing you and manipulating you by disagreeing with you or correcting you.

You do realize that Scott's video means nothing? It's a group of games from one person that is representative of Scott's experience over that particular time frame and nobody else's. Attempting to extrapolate that to a group of people as large as the playerbase of DbD spread throughout so many countries would get you a failing grade in any first year statistics course. It's not evidence at all.

You're also reading more into what I said than I actually said again. I never said tunneling was common or uncommon; I said nobody except BHVR had the analytical tools to determine if tunnelling is common or not. That is most certainly not a claim to the incidence of tunneling; it's a statement that I don't have the data. I do see a fair amount of tunnelling but, once again, I can't speak to any but my own personal experience.

Also, if someone states their personal experience, of which more than one person has stated they have experienced high levels of tunnelling, and you say 'nah, that didn't happen to you' that is gaslighting. Once again, you're focusing on the videos given after the OP set him up. The statement that 'It's an objective fact that tunnelling is uncommon' with no proof to the contrary and telling people they didn't just experience what they just said that's gaslighting. And, once again, saying tunnelling isn't really happening applies to more than just one person.

What is more relevant, however, than Scott's video is the fact that tunnelling is extremely prevalent in competitive settings. As MMR increases more optimal strategies have to be used. As there are far more examples of games being played in competitive settings than Scott's set of games in the video I can infer that tunneling is common at high MMR and that people may use that at different MMRs more frequently than spreading hooks as it's a more optimal strategy but I still can't say anything definite about the incidence of tunneling overall since I don't have the data and competitive games still aren't a wide enough sample. That data thing is important if you're making a broad reaching claim.

You do realize your answer to 2 could also have been used to support the abomination that was pre 6.1 DH, infinite loops, instablinds, etc? Perhaps those should be brought back as well and if people don't like it maybe they shouldn't play asymms, right? It's just an easy strategy, correct? Sort of like what happened with VHS because Monster had a hellishly high skill floor in comparison to Teen. Or, maybe since DbD is now leaning Killer sided as opposed to the Survivor sided it was for the majority of its existence it's time to start looking at the unfair stuff on the Killer side of things of which the most egregious example of what's left is tunnelling.

As long as you are being disingenuous and calling everything gaslighting there is no point in having a discussion.

She is a rather boring killer to play as nowadays, after all

Controversial opinion I know, but I actually quite like playing as and against her (when whoever is playing her isn't going out of their way to be toxic). She's the only trap based killer with a bit of stealth, which are both my favourite types of killers.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3754431#Comment_3754431

No, what was said by @Neaxolotl and I quote was "Come on, there's no denying the fact that tunnelling isn't common in practice" That's gaslighting and disingenous. You have no way to tell if tunnelling is common or not over the entire DbD community. You have no reliable statistics, no reliable data and no way to garner that data.

You're just focusing on a definition of tunneling that's different than mine because you're gaslighting and don't want to admit to yourself. I can't speak for anyone else but I see tunnelling defined as a Killer trying to remove a survivor first over any other quite often. I'm saying that's my experience but I'm not gaslighting because I can't speak for anyone but myself and I can't say if it's common or not either. Unless you can get the data, which you can't, you can't say that 'tunnelling being uncommon is an objective fact' because it's not and saying that it is an objective fact with nothing but your opinion is gaslighting.

So rather than deflect because you can't actually rebut my argument please feel free to answer my questions directly.

    (1) How can you speak for other people when you have no reliable data and say tunnelling isn't common when people say they specifically get tunneled a lot? How is doing that not gaslighting?

    (2) If you think tunneling is fine which part of 'Tunnelling has a lower skill floor than countering tunnelling; and if one side has a lower skill floor to accomplish their goals than the other side that represents an unfair advantage' do you disagree with?

So rather than both of you gaslighting further by referring to a definition of tunneling that doesn't match mine why don't you answer my questions?

On another note, regardless of your definition of tunnelling, it's also pretty disingenous and deceitful to ask someone specifically to give a definition, ask them to record videos of that experience, and then say after the fact that you didn't agree with the definition to begin with instead of stating that at the beginning. @Pulsar gave his definition and went through in good faith while the OP acted in bad faith and is now saying that doesn't count. That's pretty duplicitous. I'd say Pulsar was gaslit because the OP did not act in good faith and had no intention of letting Pulsar make a point.

But, aside from that, rather than pointing to things I didn't say in an attempt to gaslight further feel free to answer the questions I asked above. Please don't try to gaslight more by pointing to things I didn't say as that's also pretty disingenous.

You can claim it is gaslighting or any other buzzwords you want to throw around but if you define something incorrectly, especially when a definition was given in the OP people are not "gaslighting" you by saying that definition is incorrect. For example, if I claimed that a bully squad is any squad that has a flashlight or person running flashbang, regardless of how they use them, someone then saying "Hey, that isn't what a bully squad is." is not then trying to gaslight me, they are trying to correct me.

    Your other points though:

    (1) You can't rely on self reported tunnelling rates, as people may lie, or, more likely, misremember and have a negativity bias and will remember the games where tunnelling took place more often and forget the ones where nothing negative happened. It's the exact same thing that happens with people reporting that every game they have bully squads or super coordinated SWFs. If you have any sort of proof that tunnelling is super common you should present it, because no one has presented anything with any sort of actual evidence it is as common as some people believe. Scott in the video linked did 50 games and had hardly any tunnelling, and that is more evidence than anyone else has put forward that I know of.

    (2) I actually don't think tunnelling is fine in every circumstance, I just think it is overstated in how common it is. My personal experience lines up with Scott's, being at around 5% of games, but my self reported experience doesn't matter for much as I have no proof for that. As for the unfair advantages though, this is an asymmetrical game. Each side is going to have easy strategies and things that are easier to pull off than they are to counter. That's a given in any game where things are not the same on each side and if anyone has a problem with that, they should probably not being playing an asymmetrical game.

OP did ask what his definition of tunnelling was, but seemingly never got a chance to agree or disagree with that before the games were done. Either way though, I don't really care about that as I am not the OP, all I'm saying is that is not what tunnelling is and it is pointless to have a discussion if you're going to try and have a different definition than what is in the video in the OP, especially given that it is the vastly agreed upon definition.

  • @TheSubstitute said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3754413#Comment_3754413

I'm not moving any goalposts nor has my definition of what tunneling is ever changed. You can argue over the definition of tunneling with @Pulsar all you want and both of you are just as equally valid to have an opinion on it. The only goalposts moving I've seen was the OP telling Pulsar to post videos and then disagreeing at the end result what tunneling is instead of at the beginning.

It is gaslighting to tell people who do experience a lot of tunneling they don't actually get tunnelled. You don't know what their experience has been as you're not them and you can't speak to their experience anymore than they can to yours. Nobody knows what the actual incidence of tunneling is since the only entity that could get data over all players is BHVR and they're not doing it.

Unless you disagree with those last two sentences then this entire thread is just a giant gaslight and telling people who say they see tunneling a lot needs a lot more than a 'well, that doesn't happen to you because I say so' to not be gaslighting.

Also, if you think tunneling is completely fine explain what part of '(a) the skill floor to counter tunnelling is much higher than the skill floor to counter; and (b) a much lower skill floor for one side but not another is an unfair advantage' do you disagree with?

Did you watch the video linked in the OP? Because there is a definition of tunnelling laid out in the video, "…going after the same person until they die.". If any definition is going to be used, it should probably that one.

I don't think anyone is moving the goalposts or gaslighting by sticking to the original definition that was in the OP. It also isn't gaslighting to say someone wasn't tunnelled if they show videos of them not getting tunnelled according to the definition in the video.

  • This happens to me maybe once every 2-3 days. It feels like a vast majority of the time it is after I down the final survivor. Could just be server issues honestly, but that it has never happened while I've been losing that I can recall is a bit odd.

I do wonder if it is actually cheats or the servers , because I don't get a DC penalty so it's not connection issues on my end.

Tunneling is when the Killer hooks a Survivor twice in a row.

So by that definition you would say that if someone get unhooked, gets healed up, hops on a gen, and they happen to be the next person the killer finds after, let's say, one minute, you think that is tunneling, even if the killer wasn't going out of their way for it?

This is why people self reporting their rates of being tunneled is nearly useless. Some people have such a loose definition of tunneling that simple normal gameplay is tunneling. Unless a reasonable definition of tunneling is agreed upon by the community there really cannot be a good discussion about tunneling and its frequency.

I personally am not convinced any Knight player will stop running it. They should have just gave us a bone by giving map entirely for free and then go from there.

Yeah, it is still going to be mandatory, so it isn't really much of a change. Considering how much they gutted him in this update they could have at least given us that one add-on fully base kit.

  • Same bug just happened to me, I was trying to hook someone and the moment I started hooking, someone started saboing the hook, cancelling the hook attempt and seemingly causing this. I couldn't down them, they seemed unable to attempt to get off hook and the anti face camp did nothing, no one could attempt a rescue, and even after I let everyone leave and EGC timer ran out they didn't die, meaning both me and the bugged player had to DC.

For extra info I was playing Skull Merchant, person I was hooking was playing Jeff, person saboing was Meg and was using a toolbox to sabo. Perks being used were Hex: Devour Hope, Hex: Undying, Hex: Pentimento, Hex: Ruin. Map was Dead Dog Saloon. Logs attached if it helps.

  • The same problem has been happening to me over the past few days. Everyone in the lobby gets DC'd with this error and gets a penalty. No network interruptions in any other games, in call, watching videos, ect, just DBD.

Handcuffing players to play a game is a very big red flag.

Just balance the game so both sides feel like they have an opportunity to win. The game is too easy for killers and survivors have no hope to win. You'll see way less survivors ditching a match if they have a chance to win.

Both sides do have a chance to win, at least at higher MMR. In higher MMR survivors are favoured even, so it isn't a matter of the game being imbalanced. The problem is that some players give up at the mildest inconvenience and that ruins the rest of the game for every single other player, except the killer if they just want an easy win.

Also you are not handcuffed to the game. You can quit if you want but there is a minor penalty for ruining the game for your fellow survivors. Anyone who does not disconnect every few games won't have to deal with any penalties higher than a 5 min matchmaking ban.

  • The problem of there only being a few viable addons could easily be solved with more rebalancing of them, no need to scrap them entirely.

Then, why shouldn't you be tied up at night, you don't have to move anyway. That's what you are doing with those who don't want to dc. You trapped them on hook with no agency. Now their thoughts don't matter, nothing matter until anyone else will come.

Agency is having a gameplay options to influence the game - stay on hook, try to unhook yourself, die to let your teammate a chance to get hatch, die to force your teammate out of gates instead of trying to save you, stay on hook to be sure camper will have hook to stay infront of, get their attention by first suicide attempt. Those options could be bad but you have plenty of them to influence the game flow in a naturall non-suicidal way. They just don't suicide, but this do affect the game, they participate the game by not suiciding. And you you want to make it nothing, devaluate this contribution.

Being on hook will be even more routine thing than now. It will be even more boring then now. The whole gameplay quality will be lower because there will be less gameplay.

And DC isn't a gameplay option, it's an punishable escape button which removes you from the game. DC has nothing with agency.

Being on hook isn't supposed to be fun, it is literally a punishment for getting caught. If you are on hook your teammates come and unhook you, it's as simple as that. If you really would like something to do while you are on hook you could have skill checks that give additional bloodpoints if hit but don't kill you if you miss.

    >Being on hook will be even more routine thing than now. It will be even more boring then now. The whole gameplay quality will be lower because there will be less gameplay.

If you really think that suiciding on hook is good gameplay then I don't know what to say.

  • Hopefully people who purchased Demo on their don't lose him.

And now you ignore it again. Looks like you didn't read my point at all and just jump onto "agency" word applying it to suiciders with no understanding.

Again. What about those who don't want to DC? Have you seen all those killers who don't like new mori system because now it feels out of control and they can't decide to give last survivor hatch? Do you think it's healthy to make NORMAL players alt-tab while on hook because they have nothing else to do anyway?

People who don't want to DC don't have to then, no one is forcing them to DC. You keep going on about player agency but you haven't made any point about player agency because the player still HAS agency, they can simply choose to DC or not, they just have to deal with the punishment that comes along with DCing.

And I repeat it again, this "simple" solution will harm all other players more than suiciders. Did you just ignore my point about player's agency or what? I'm really interested in your opinion about that. Do you really think this thing won't affect normal players at all? Or do you really want to harm suiciders so bad you are going to harm all others?

How does taking away the ability to suicide on hook take away player agency? They can literally just DC if they want to leave. If they want to sandbag or AFK they can be reported and punished.

You can't force people to play a match they don't want to, it's a lost cause. If you remove hook suicides people are just going to start sandbagging all the time. You can try it for yourself on solo queue, when you save someone that is trying to kobe they'll just start to spam locker entering, vaulting pallets, missing skill checks on purpose, etc. I'd rather have these players out of the match ASAP so at least it ends quicker and I can hopefully find a better game, instead of artificially prolonging what is a lost cause already.

Not even mentioning hook suicide can be a strategy as well. For example if I'm downed with NOED at the endgame and my 3 teammates are on the gate already I'll suicide because I don't them coming back to try and save me. Same thing if I'm on hook and there's only 1 teammate left, I'll suicide so he can get hatch.

Sandbagging is against the rules, so they would be punished for it.

  • I mean I guess you could play her as a basic m1 killer with a teleport power that is worse than Freddys but that isn't really viable. She's absolutely the worst killer in the game unless you play her in the condemned way.

    >They can leave the game, but they should have to deal with the penalty that comes with that. No one is saying people should be unable to DC.

You know how else they can leave the game? By being hooked three times. It's not agains the rules to jump over the pallet, get killer's attention and loop badly. It's not punishable. It's my every second game and I'm not even try to die. Why shouldn't we remove this way too?

Let's do it. Seriosly. Removing mid-game elimination and balancing the game around that could fix SO many problems. Anf ccamp, and tunnel, and all other ways immature players can leave the game before it ends.

Again, I'm not agruing it's bad they can threw the game and intentionaly leave their teammates without penalty, but removing suicide option can't help here. IMO.

So instead of implementing a simple solution like making you unable to suicide on hook they should rework the entire game and fundamentally change it instead?
