Well, for me it is. :D

And so is what the game tells me the objective is.^^

No, we CANT argue endlessly about the objective, because it is said plainly in game that the survivors objective is to complete generators and escape. It explicitly tells us that.

The objective is to escape. Not to "rank up" when rank means nothing.

And I say they're not connected because doing your objective (gens/escaping) and feeding into playing a certain way to pip up in a system that is literally JUST for matchmaking (saves, blinds, chases, etc), are unrelated.

Doing your objective is one thing.

Going out of your way to play into a system that doesnt matter is another.

You can write in capslock all you want, but that does not change the fact that you don't understand what I am trying to convey.

I stated at least twice that for me, the objective is to pip and not only to do gens and leave asap. Whether that is something completely pointless to you or anybody else is absolutely irrelevant as it was never the question if that makes any sense to you.

Maybe I shouldn't have written "I truly doubt that genrushing is the main objective for survivors" but then again, given that three personal premises preceeded that conclusion, I think it's fair to conclude that for me, genrushing and escaping isn't my goal in DbD. It's part of it, but not the whole thing. If you don't agree, that's fine since it's my own view on things.

Yet again, I still don't understand how you claim that "doing your objective (gens/escaping) and [...] pip up" are unrelated. How am I supposed to pip up while not doing the main, 'objective' objective which is "gens/escaping"? Is it even possible to pip up without having touched a single gen and/or escaping?

Maybe we could agree on saying that the main objective of a survivor is indeed to do gens and escape. Whether that fits one's personal expectations to oneself is another topic.

  • @Carpemortum said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1133092#Comment_1133092

Well, actually, doing gens and escaping IS the main objective. It's in the tutorial.

Thing is, the rank system and pips arent real rank. Its matchmaking. So while no, you wont "rank up" from doing your objective and leaving asap at high ranks, you're not supposed to.

Your in game objective, and how you "rank up" (which again, is borderline meaningless) are not directly affected by each other as much as youd think.

To "rank up" at higher ranks, you have to do your objective and THEN SOME. You have to "prove" you're not just scraping by, by doing the objective.

Well, I think we could debate endlessly about what the objective of a survivor is and for me, personally, it's not so much about genrushing the frigg out of the game, but rather pipping. Not so much to rank up, because that'a a finite objective, but more so because the higher your rank is, the more you have to do ingame to get a pip. It becomes more of a challenge I'd say.

What you say is basically what I was trying to convey, too. Sure, you can just follow your main objective and leave asap, but that wont get you pipping. In order to pip, at least in red ranks, you're supposed to so some things on top of that. This is where I see a definite connection between the main objective and pipping, so I don't really get your point about that these objectives are not directly connected?

Yeah, in the first tome there’s one that glitched for me, the one to sacrifice 12 (15?) survivors. I got 4 in one round, which should have totaled 8 all together but afterwards it just said 4. I thought it was strange because I was sure that I already had 4, so I tried again, the next round getting 3. Sure enough afterwards my total was... still 4. At that point I just gave up and did other challenges.

Yeah, it sometimes helped to activate another challenge, play a match and then return to the initial challenge.

  • Had a similar problem with a challenge in the first archive "earn 15 emblems of iridescent quality"... got 4 red emblems and it just counted as one.

It was in the first archive. I've reported it in the forums and it got forwarded. Kind of weird...

  • Let's get a few things straight that might nuance your perspective a little bit.

"the main obje[c]tive of the survivors is the genrush."

I don't think that's the case, at least not for me. Personally, I don't get anything from simply playing a M1-Simulator. Additionally, I doubt that you can actually pip in purple/red ranks from just genrushing and espacing, can you? Also, you don't get as much bp as you would by trying to get the other categories/emblems going. These premises given, I truly doubt that genrushing is the main objective for survivors.

"the killer decides who he cha[s]es"

That's true. Per definition, you're the one who starts a chase.

Lastly, I think it's okayish to just open the gates and go afk based on the fact that survivors can also die on purpose once hooked. If a killer chooses to do so, I wouldn't judge him because of that since I've seen plenty of mates just letting themselves die on the hook - equal rights for all.

Can you just stop pretending like you have any clue about the game at all? You are a noob that has no basic understanding, you don't even know the movementspeed for the killers, clown shares the default ms of 115 which most killers do, trapper too. The fact that you just run in a straight line cause you have no clue on what to do as a rank 15 doesn't mean that there are adjustments needed but that you need to learn how to play the game and git gud.

Insanely fast Trapper dude 115 OP plZT nerF, me not noob nononono! You don't even understand that there is a mechanic called bloodlust which increases the movement speed of killers, the longer they chase a single survivor without getting a hit or breaking a pallet. Do you even know why this mechanic exists? Yeah cause maps are so busted that you could run killers forever without it.

Go ahead stream, I wanna see your killergameplay on r1, just remember wraith without anything since he is so OP, in fact make it 50/50 clown / wraith all 4ks since it is just so OP, insane fast dude.

    Don't feed the troll. :D

The OP did not claim that he got messages from his opponent. He said the messages were between him and his opponent's mate that was banned by Sony.

If my playstyle was to tunnel EVERY player in EVERY game one at a time, and Mori people a lot, someone who I didn't realise I had played multiple times could show "evidence" that I am targetting them.

What if the killer is just reacting top the current balancing and matchmaking crisis by bringing a Mori into EVERY game?

Without any claim of messages between the OP and his opponent, I rule the defendant not guilty.

Once again: it is not about tunneling every player in every game in every dimension in every way possible, but that the tunneling and mori'ing is limited to one specific person, which is further underlined by the killer teabagging (or probably nodding at the moried guy while farming with the other survivors. Now, this is a pretty specific scenario. If this is done by the same guy over and over again, what are the odds of it not being personal against OP?

  • @JawsIsTheNextKiller said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1132965#Comment_1132965

PS4 messages are not admissable as they are Sony's domain so it would have to be purely on the gameplay.

If I saw someone like Truetalent, Ochido or Ayrun in my survivor lobby I would 100% bring a green Mori specifically with the intention to take them out. And if I saw them the very next game, guess what, I need to bring another Mori. I wouldn't be greifing them, I just know that they are way above my skill level and I don't like to lobby dodge.

If you are banning players for repeated use of Moris then what's next? Bans for repeated use of keys?

You're missing out some context. OP has got the griefing guy's mate banned for griefing or whatever and now, game after game he gets matched with said griefing guy who tunnels him and moris him repetitively while letting the other survivors farm.

It's not about bringing mori after mori into the game or tunneling someone you know is well above your skill level, it's about targeting one specific player to ruin his game experience. It's neither strategical nor functional but solely emotional.

  • @Doddle28 I think we both fell for it. No one in their right mind and with at least some experience in DbD can be serious about Clown speed, Trapper nerfs etc.

    Well done, OP!

  • You make it sound as if every survivor on earth is sick of facing fast killers.

I mostly play survivor, currently on rank 2. And I don't agree with you. If you do it right you can still loop killers for I'd say 2, maybe even 3 gens on an average if your mates aren't potatoes and you don't get the worst of the worst pallet/tile situation going.

And, let's get this straight. You really want trapper to be nerfed? I mean... really!?

  • @UkilledLegion said:

@Fibijean of course.like play with friends play KYF wanna show skill play on public with 3 other survivors.play alone or play together use some perks and other

So, let's say I got that one friend with whom I'd really like to play DbD. Do you really want me to play a match of KYF with him just to tell him afterwards: "Yo buddy, have fun playing solo now."? Or do you want me to persuade three other friends to buy DbD just to play KYF forevermore where you gain no rewards whatsoever?" There's barely any competition there.

SWF is somewhat broken, true. And especially in red ranks when you run into a very well-coordinated team that is good at looping, flashlight-saves, mindgaming the killer, using pallets responsibly and so on. But me and my friends, when we play SWF as 3 or as 4, we're not the best of the best and not the worst of the worst. We still do tons of mistakes sometimes, get hooked fairly quickly or just generally play into the killer's hands.

Again, I get what you're saying. But what bugs me about these discussions on how unfair and broken SWF is, is that SWF is being portrayed as the worst evil in need to get rid of in DbD in order to make it balanced and I'm like: no!? It's not like you're always getting the crème de la crème of survivors in SWF, it's no like you're always getting preyed on in SWF, it's not like SWF is the main issue BHVR should be focusing on at the moment. It's crucial bugs such as sound bugs, the dedicated servers' networking, some killers and their perks, matchmaking etc.

SWF should be addressed in due time. But getting rid of it? That would destroy DbD.

  • For whatever reason, my post got duplicated. :D

  • Is there a way to connect both dedicated servers and P2P connection? Like, some form of synthesis to get the best out of both?

Because, it sometimes seems to me that dedicated servers really helped maintaining a somewhat consistent connection, but then again there are those games where there's apparently something wrong, getting ridiculous hits for example. But then again, lag switching or looking for new lobbies to get an acceptable ping aren't really a thing anymore, are they?

  • @IFeelFantastic said:

    Thanks for the reply...

One reason might be to create an incentive to play as killer.

And before someone post DBD steam playtime stats/chart/whatever screenshot and saying "BuT pLaYeR sTiLl iNcReAsE" bs

Most of them are playing either "Wait for campfire simulator", "Early die by camp/tunnel/mori as survivor", "Easy and boring match as survivor because you face against noob killer" or "get bullied by playing killer and never come back again"

Heck, Twitch already prove this and i watch otzdarva stream where he get facecamped by basement bubba (And their toxic teammate blaming their own teams)

So...what? None of your examples account for an increasing/decreasing playerbase. However, you've missed one last example which would be "a normal game in which everyone pips". Basically, you've listed 4 different scenarious a match can follow, missed out on at least one I provided, so...where's your point?

By the way, you can cry about data all you want and claim it "bs". Data is data. And the data shows that since Ruin got nerfed, the playerbase on steam has decreased by 452,9, let's say 453 players on an average which is about 1,9% of the average playerbase in January. Is that considered substantial?

What if we balanced NOED by making so that you need to cleanse five dull totems for it to be removed before it even triggers in the endgame? That'd be fairly high risk/high reward imho.

Did I not get the sarcasm? Because, that's literally what's going on with NoED right now, isn't it? Am I missing something here? For NoED not to proc, you have to cleanse all 5 totems there are on the map. :o

  • Or the following:

Dead by Daylight is an indie horror game developed and published by Behaviour Digital Inc.. Dead by Daylight is both an action and survival horror multiplayer game in which four crazed, unstoppable Survivors looping, flashlight blind, teabag, drop pallet on One Killer which tunnels, slugs, facecamps, holds you hostage and/or types "GG EZ" through a terrifying nightmarish world in a deadly game of Cat & Mouse.

    It goes both ways. :D

If they had a bigger team then they could work on new content and bug fixes and other faults in the game at the same time and more efficiently, personally I love new content added to the game, and like other games it’s what keeps them alive and refreshing to play instead of playing the same thing all the time, but errors in the games design can’t be saved by new content and players will start to leave if it gets worse or continues.

Do you know how many employees hat BHVR Interactive actually work on DbD? According to their own page, BHVR employs over 600 people of staff with Dead by Daylight being "[their] most successful IP". Currently, they're advertising 40 jobs of which 8 are purely dedicated to Dead by Daylight and the other 32 being probably predominantly connected to DbD on a meta-level (Data Analysis, Artists, Developers etc.). This shows that Dead by Daylight plays a very important role for BHVR. So, I don't really think that personnel is the big issue here, is it?

I've been playing DbD since the very beginning almost and overall, what these guys have accomplished is nothing but a huge success. If you take a look at DbD's development on steamcharts since it released in June 2016, its average playerbase has more than doubled to which the consistent updates might have contributed greatly. I have yet to cross-check it, but DbD's player fluctuactions probably go hand in hand with its releases of new updates.

I won't deny that there still are some huge bugs which directly impact the gameplay. But overall, I feel that they're doing a good job on fixing stuff, indicated by those longs lists of bugfixes in the patch notes. However, that said, I would still partially agree on what you said. They're releasing major updates every 3 months currently, aren't they? And, their roadmaps are p.a.c.k.e.d with goals they want to achieve. So, maybe reduce the amount of major updates from a 3 to a 4 months interval and using that time to focus on considerable bugs such as sound bugs, getting stuck on weird places, weird hit boxes and a smoother networking so you won't get 'dedicated-serverd' every now and then? The main question is whether this idea is sustainable amongst other economical objectives such as profit, productivity and growth.

  • What I like most about DbD?

Hard to tell... I like how immersive some matches feel, playing against killers with no terror radius. Even after years of playing, DbD still scares the crap out of me sometimes. :)

  • @Fibijean Didn't even think about that, but of course! :)

  • As of now, your system would not make much sense I'm afraid. If you're making match-making dependent on a character's level, I can as well have all survivors on P3 Lvl. 50 and an according DbD experience but once a new survivor gets released, I might get matched with a completely new player. That would be quite unfair, wouldn't it be?

-My opinion as a killer and Legionmain is, that the Legion was a "bit" broken. I say a bit, because the exploits needed to be fixed and some addons needed a rework, without any doubts. All what had gone above that was too much. In videos you have often got a wrong image of the Legion because there were so many people out there, that had always play them with the exploits, or the op addons.

But I as a guy who had him play as main, can say to you, that the killrate of the Legion to pre patch times from 20-30% was nothing surprising for me, because besides the exploits and the op addons had the Legion to that time not much to offer, besides one important thing that even the today Legion can not offer anymore: Fun!

If you need evidence for my words: Just show me 1 op pre patch Legion video without exploits or op addons. Because I am a friendly guy, I say it directly to you: Don't waste your time searching it. Such a video did not exist for reasons.

-I guess you are right that balancing dbd must be a nightmare. I don't doubt that. The more important is it imo that the devs listen to the experts of the thing they like to change and that are the mains. In case of the Legion, the Legion mains. In case of survivor releated topics, the survivors who know best about the stuff the devs like to work on.

What would be wrong on it, if the devs would have asked: "Hey look Legion-mains, by the Legion is this and this a problem... How should we solve the problem on the best way?", Or: "Hey survivor mains, we need to change perk X, how would be the best way to do it?"

Of course, they have not to 100% to do it then on the way, the killer/survivor mains say it to them, but they should keep their words and maybe warnings in mind.

Would the devs have had listen to the Legion mains as example, we would today not have this discussion. Of course, after the rework some threads would have been up, but they would have had slowly die out. But because the devs have not care for the people that play this character the most, we have a ongoing discussion until the devs do finally something right (whenever that will be).

-I can not use a other killer and have the same fun as before, as with the Legion. The Legion was the reason why I have bought this game and even if we forget this - there is no other killer in the game that allows the player to fast-multistab survivors. Would I be a m1 killer lover, I would be happy now. The problem is, I am not such a guy and imho should a game everything do that is possible, to keep its customers happy.

-I had never main the Nurse. Just do sometimes a few matches for the dailies, but the Nurse mains seem to be pretty fed up about her changes.

I think it is not bad if strong killers like her exist (pre patch), as long as we have so many weak killers in the game. Would that not be the case... Would I nothing say from my more... casual knowing of the Nurse.

@siren_sorceress I think we have similar mindset. We coming just from the opposit side. Don't see my posting please as a rant. It is just a explanation how at least I and maybe also others see it.

Btw. the generator thing was just to make you thinking. I doubt that bhvr would ever do it and in my eyes it would also not be necessary, but without a doubt, I believe that survivors would go then rampage in the forums and would be really annoyed by this new "gameplay mechanics".

I think I get what you're saying and that you're coming from an open-minded place, but I believe that getting crucial information from only specific-killer and survivor mains is the worst idea a developer can do in order to get information or input on how to balance the game. It's kind of as if you'd ask extremist niche-groups of parties about their ideas on how to run and govern a given country. Both survivor and killer mains are per definition subjected to their own subjectivity and partisanship, hence the term "main".

You'd have to ask players who play as killer and as survivor equally in order to get the most nuanced and impartial feedback and/or new players and their feeling about the game since their perspective and perception is highly unfiltered.

Its literally exploiting a difference in hit boxes to keep a killer from gaining as much speed as they can and was never originally intended.

Well, I think I may have a different understanding of looping...but in a general sense, isn't it just "ring-around-the-ros'ing" the killer around pallets, jungle gyms, the shack and so on and forth? Considering that both pallets and windows have been around from the very beginning of the game, how is looping a killer in the sense I just described an exploit? True, in a rather narrow meaning of the term, I actually am exploiting (in the sense of using) the ressources given to me, but in the broader and much more common sense I don't think that looping is an exploit, understood as the abuse of hitboxes in this case and not intended by the devs. Am I missing something crucial here? And let's be honest: both hitboxes and dedicated servers have led to some ridiculous hits in the last couple of months.

And about what changes I deem "boring":

In the beginning of DbD, you had killers and surv' whining on both sides. Be it about how op a Killer was, be it about how op and endless a Surv's possibilities to fool a killer were; however, I feel that this consciously unreflected and biased discourse has gotten even worse over last couple of years. It has gotten so far that even playing completely normally, without a build or items that one might perceive as "toxic" gets you insulted and griefed on - on both sides. The feeling of entitlement of some survivors as well as the constant whining of some players about how unfair it is to play a certain Killer is almost unbearable. A few days ago, I played as a Claudette and got facecamped without having done anything ingame one might consider toxic. Upon asking the Killer why he chose to facecamp me, he told me that the mere choice of playing a "Blendette", and by the way, I was wearing neon-coloured cosmetics, got me facecamped. It's not the fact that he facecamped me that got me pensive, because all of the other surv's had brains, did gens and eventually escaped which is a win for me, but more so the fact that he made a choice to lose a pip and blood points based on what character someone else played. Another time, when I was playing Killer, I got heavily insulted for getting a 4k although playing quite cooperatively: I didn't hook the survs immediately but waited until I hit everyone, didn't tunnel nor camp... and almost got 32k bps.

For me, it seems that this feeling of entitlement, of "I deserve something" has been growing and growing ever since DbD got released, once again, on both sides. And the more people complain about non-substantial stuff, the more boring it gets.

  • @Vetrathene What makes you think that looping is an exploit? :o

  • @Vetrathene said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1110466#Comment_1110466

NOED is not a high tier perk, its a perk that may not come into play, either because the game ended before EGC, or because all of the bones where broken, or because the gens popped and doors opened before the killer could get to any of them. The killer experience is better...in some ways, and worse in others. Infinites are gone, but when they where removed pallet vacuum got buffed and hit boxes for survivors where made smaller, creating looping. It was finally gone after a very long time, but looping never went away; which is simply an exploit. Killer buffs come much slower then survivor buffs, and vice verse for nerfs. Killers will get nerfed after 'being looked at' for a few weeks to a month. Survivor advantages will be 'looked at' for multiple months and then nerfed...while getting a buff to compensate. Or survivor buffs will be presented as supposed nerfs. While killers get a few quality of life changes to try to make it seem like the devs aren't biased. Balance is based on 'fun', but usually seems to be focused on new survivor 'fun.

Welp...what makes you think that "[...] looping never went away; which is simply an exploit."?

  • Also...
