I still think Candyman is the most possible candidate purely because of all the circumstantial evidence surrounding him, I just cannot see it being Jason because he is in legal hell, I cannot see it being Pennywise because his character conflicts with the Entity, unless he is a completely new Pennywise that is different to the ones we see in IT, not to mention Stephen King is very wary of his properties in the hands of other creators, I don't see it being Xenomorph, the teaser you showed me yourself is not reminiscent of anything from the Alien series, not to mention, unlike Demodoggy, the Xenomorph would look rather out of place in the rogues gallery of characters that DBD has, I also don't see it being Pinhead because nothing we have been shown points to it possibly being him, LeaksByDaylight possibly eluded to the fact it might be him but they aren't exactly the most reliable source of information given how much they've changed their stance for this killer alone.

If nothing fits, then look for something else. You don't need to stick with the common suggestions and need to think for other possible Killers.

I believe this teaser hints towards The Creature from the Black Lagoon and I am going to, attempt, to detail why.

TLDR- It boils down to more or less this clip. Focus on how the water looks overall and what shapes the actress takes at the 2 minute mark then compare that to the teaser above.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ariuokNFhSw

Long details- I need to explain the teaser itself and my thinking beforehand.

First I am assuming the 4th teaser is using the same guidelines as the 3rd teaser who hinted towards Ghostface. In the 3rd teaser the font used for the 3, it being made of blood, and the background all was hints. The font looked like it was made by a knife and roughly looked like a Scream 3 poster. The 3 being made of blood supported it being made by a knife. And the background also looked like a form of white plastic. The other 3rd year images shown the same background and had other Killers in a black/white contrast, but looked somewhat like a negative.

That all pointed towards Ghostface and some here called it. They was right! Now let me put that line of thinking into the 4th teaser.

Before getting into it though I have to point out the skull within the teaser. I am choosing to 90% ignore it. That skull has unofficially been said to be part of the DbD's tally mark logo. I am assuming it has next to nothing to do with the teaser itself and is a red herring added in as a decoy. That teaser is in fact the 2ND teaser! When the teaser was first shown, that skull was missing. So I choose to ignore the skull as of now.

Starting out, the font used. That 4's font at first drove me insane. Spent far too long finding another text that matched it ending up with nothing at all. Then about an hour+ ago I noticed something else that looked like that font. A pair of human legs. In the clip above at the 2 minute mark you will see the actress's legs form a rough shape of the teaser's 4! it is backwards and upside down, but a pair of human legs is 100% able to make the font used in the 4th teaser. The clip also can explain why the 4 stretches all the way down below the image. At the 2:26 mark, the Creature wants to grab her by the leg and drag her down with it. All the way to the bottom.

This clip in my opinion proves that The Creature from the Black Lagoon fits the 4's font and why it oddly goes so far down.

Next is the gold used to make the 4 and spread over the background. Simple enough. TCftBL is from the GOLDEN AGE of classic horror films! Maybe this is a bit too simple of thinking, but it fits the gold used in the teaser and the teasers description referring it to be a "classic license". Not much else to note here in truth.

Lastly, the blackness in the background. I think it is water. At first I thought it was oil due to the skull ozzing black liquid. But after ignoring the skull and comparing to TCftBL, I noticed what shapes the gold in the background took. The gold are varying sizes and shapes of circles in and out of focus. In the clip above you will see that those gold circles look like air bubbles in water! Air bubbles in water look very much like circles of varying sizes/shapes that are in and out of focus to the camera.

Takes a bit of imagination, but the background looking like water makes TCftBL fit this part of the hint as well!

The Creature from the Black Lagoon fits all 3 parts of the teaser and it fits in being a horror classic. The odd font and shape of the 4, the background's colors/textures, and the gold throughout it. Granted this is my interpretation of those hints and there can be MANY ways to interpret a teaser made to be as vague as possible, so this could very well be wrong. But The Creature from the Black Lagoon is the first and ONLY horror movie I have found to come close to fitting everything. And it doesn't just come close, it is a near perfect fit!

That's my take on the teaser and why it hints to The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

The 4's font takes the same shape a pair of legs does. The gold used throughout can hint towards the golden age of horror. The shapes of gold in the background can be air bubbles under water. Only 2 colors can be a hint to a black and white film, furthering hinting towards the golden age of horror. The pure blackness can be seen as water a night as well as be a hint to the name of "Black" Lagoon. The 4 itself going all the way to the bottom of the image could be Gillman's main goal in the film, to drag women to the bottom on the lagoon.

The teaser can even be seen as a picture from the film. Someone swimming in the dead of night, their legs below a black abyss. And someone, something, is waiting for the right moment to drag them down.

I can be stretching it in some places. But it all fits. Every little detail of the teaser fits in hinting towards Gillman! Can I be wrong? Yes, I can. But I don't think I am.

How is that a teaser? It's literally just an announcement.

    Untitled Image

That was all we had for the 3rd year teaser and people figured out we was getting Ghostface by looking at the font used for the 3, the colors used throughout the image, and the materials/textures used for the font/background.

This year it is the same deal. We have to use the 4th year's image to figure out who the next Killer is. And ONLY that image.

To me that teaser says almost nothing about the potential Killers that could be added into the game other than the fact that it has Honey Coloured Gold and Black Ooze coming out of a Black Skull.

Unless you're implying the Black Ooze means a Xenomorph which wouldn't make sense, at least from what I recall, Xenomorph ooze is Green, not Black. Even then how would that explain the Honey Coloured Gold splattered all over the place?

I don't think it's Jason because those two colours and skull has never really been associated with him.

Same reason why I don't think it's Pennywise.

The only Killer that I can stretch it out for it to say something about is Candyman, but that is purely because there was a mural in the Candyman trailer that kinda looks like the one we see on the Forums right now with a Skull looking upwards, and again, the Honey Coloured Gold splatter all over the place.

It should be safe to ignore the skulls. There has been 3 skulls shown so far, and all 3 fit perfectly into DbD's tally mark logo. Im 99% certain that those was added after the fact to be a diversion. The original teaser didn't even have a skull and I think this is where it was first shown.

Canada’s leading independent game development studio Behaviour Interactive has extended an invitation to celebrate the 4th anniversary of its iconic asymmetrical 4v1 game Dead by Daylight by tuning in to a very special stream and a jaw-dropping reveal. Set your alarms and join us on Twitch and Youtube on May 26 at 2pm EST. During…

If the skulls was important to the new Killer. Why make a version of the teaser without the skulls? These devs have made several mistakes in coding the game, but they aren't so inept to have their original teaser be missing a skull if it was important.

Them being made of gold and oozing blackness can also be ignored. They already oozed in the tally mark logo so that is worthless as a teaser, but the gold is likely just an artistic flare to reflect the teaser having gold.

As for honey and it's golden color. I just don't see the teaser showing honey itself. The 4 has perfectly sharp edges and the gold in the background are in and out of focus. Honey itself is VERY thick/gooey and extremely sticky. No way in hell you can make the shape of that 4 with it and the background gold. It they was more blob like, yeah I can see it being honey. But not with it being that clean and in so small of parts. Pollen as well is s different shade of yellow to gold and is a powder. Maybe the background gold could be pollen, but not the 4 itself. And as for the 4 looking like a hook. Not seeing that either. Not with the horizontal line crossing so much over the vertical line. A hook shape would be to have the horizontal line stop before reaching the vertical line.

Candyman is possible. I just don't see it adding up. The details don't match well enough in my opinion.

    Excuse me.

Teaser? I wasn't made aware there was actually a released Teaser yet.

Join the Dead by Daylight team in celebrating the game’s 4th anniversary by tuning in on Twitch and Youtube on May 26 at 2pm EST.

That's the 2nd teaser. The first was exactly the same minus that skull. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th teasers you can see covering these forums in the banners and background.

This is more or less the same type of teaser we got for the 3rd year anniversary. But unlike last years event, people use that teaser to figure out it was Ghostface. This year I don't see much more than people pulling "facts" out their backsides while ignoring the teaser and hints within it.

We all know the evidence. Tweet, follow, Todd as a voice actor for a video game, the fact that the PTB was to coincide with the new movie (before the latter was postponed), etc.

Now go ahead and tell me it's all bait and I'm an idiot for taking the bait.

All unofficial sources. A tweet of a emoji or a random twitter follow is some of the weakest evidence I have ever seen. It is "something" but pure weak sauce.

Can you explain in any way why the teaser/s hints towards Candyman? Go ham with it if you want. I mean go WILD if you need to and cherry pick anything you want. But I want you to explain why the TEASER hints towards Candyman. Not a tweet, not an emoji, not some voice actor. I want you to use the teaser, the ONLY official hint we have been given, to explain why the next Killer is Candyman.

If you can, I would gladly read it and likely enjoy the theory crafting. But if you can't. Then odds are your theory can't hold water as well as a bucket made from a screen door.

It's difficult to have a debate with people whose stance is "all the evidence pointing to this is fake even though it doesn't fit with the devs' past behavior".

First, you have to show your evidence for others to comment on it. Show and tell.

Show me your evidence, and I'll tell you my opinions on it.

If you don't show me anything, then my opinion will be that you're full of #########.

I wouldn't get into a debate with the guy, he holds the position of "I'm right, you're wrong, here's the officially confirmed proof, your opinion is invalid"

Hey, if it is Candyman, then I eat my words, but saying "when have they ever used red herrings" implies that they will never use them, which is hilarious. I like to think BHVR have the wit to utilise red herrings since they literally just released a Zarina perk called "Red Herring", so they know what they are. If, however, the obviously obvious hints are true, I'd be disappointed, because then the big "surprise" is not a surprise at all.

Oh I agree that Orion had Candyman stuck far too deep in his head and can't see anything else. But if I can get him to actually explain his evidence, then there would a real debate instead of the normal "Im right, you're wrong!" crap.

For me. I dug my heels into the Killer being Gillman, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, or something closely related it. Made a topic explaining why some days back but it just never gained traction with other folks. The difference between my Gillman theory and his Candyman theory is that I can fully explain my reasoning and thoughts behind it being Gillman. I even took the time to explain every detail in the teaser (minus the skulls) and every detail fit Gillman.

The font of the 4, why it goes to the bottom of the image, why only 2 colors used, why gold and black, the textures of the background, and more. This poster sums it all up near perfectly.

    https://www.alexrossart.com/Universal-Monsters-Creature-from-The-Black-Lagoon_p_364.html

The more I look at the teaser, the more solid my belief is that it is Gillman.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1295681#Comment_1295681

We do have solid evidence it's Candyman. Every single piece of evidence (real evidence) points to him. People are dismissing it because, in their minds, it's so obvious that it must be false. Evidence of Candyman is being interpreted as evidence it's not Candyman. It's a conspiracy theory if I've ever seen one.

Please share that evidence. I really want to see it because if it is what I think it is, then you fell for the bait harder than a tuna.

Either explain it out or link to a post explaining it out.

If it's not, then I suppose I'll be disappointed for a couple days, but it'll pass. If it is, I'll be very happy for quite a while.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1293559#Comment_1293559

I've asked that before, nobody has answered yet. Hopefully the fact that I'm mentioning this now will get someone to reply, but I doubt it.

I cant give examples, not a social media person, but these devs like to bait or add red herrings in unofficial sources. They're trolls and love it.

But they are rather professional when it comes to anything official. Meaning, extremely tight lipped and give nothing that isnt approved beforehand.

If it isnt an official post or in the game's files. Odds are it is bait as any unofficial hints goes against their professional standards, and could even be a legal problem with revealing lisenced IPs too early. Ending in possible fines from the rights owners or that person risking their job.

Gaming is all fun and, well, games. But business is business.

    I'm 90% sure they're just joking.

(And if they're not then I doubt anything you or I say can convince them otherwise)

I'm open for discussion. But that mean both sides need to take part in it.

Iv made my claims and offered opinions to why using the only teaser we got. What I see in it, what my reasonings are, and even gave visual examples.

For there to be a proper discussion someone else needs to offer evidence of their claims based on the teaser. So far I haven't read any claims that attempted to back them up with more than a single part of the teaser while ignoring every other part.

In the 3rd year teaser, everything in it hinted to Ghostface. The other teasers with other Killers also did. Font of the 3, it made of blood, the background textures, the overall colors used, and the other Killers being blacked out. Why wouldn't the 4th year teaser do the same?

  • We already have enough hints to figure out how the new Killer is. This is the exact same thing that happened last year with Ghostface. Look at the teaser, find the meanings to the font/color/textures within it, and you should be able to figure it out.

But the difference between the 4th year and 3rd years teasers is that this year EVERY ######### PERSON is often ignoring teaser itself and looking for outside hints such as random emojis, cat pics, or some other crap.

"It's Candyman!" some say. Even though the teaser's font and background texture have next to nothing to do with him. The colors are also a long stretch with gold being pollen or honey. Honey and pollen does NOT look metallic at all, but the teaser's gold does.

"It's Jason!" others say. ######### off. Even if Jason or F13 wasn't in legal hell at the moment that 100% prevents ANY chance of Jason being in any form of media, how the hell does the teaser relate to Jason? I don't see a single thing pointing towards Jason at all.

"Gotta be Xenomorph!" a few claim. Again, how the ever living hell does the teaser point towards the Xenomorph? Because it is black? What about the font, gold, patterns, or textures?

"Pyramid Head!". I agree that his head fits the 4, but what else? PH himself nor Silent Hill fits anything else of the teaser.

I can't recall anyone who suggested those above ever backing up their claims. They over focus on a single detail and jump on it ignoring everything else. Or simply repeat what someone else said without having anything at all. You do not figure out a puzzle by ignoring it or cramming pieces into places that's only "close enough".

Want to know my opinions after attempting to match the entire teaser?

The Creature from the Black Lagoon fits all 3 parts of the teaser and it fits in being a horror classic. The odd font and shape of the 4, the background's colors/textures, and the gold throughout it. Granted this is my interpretation of those hints and there can be MANY ways to interpret a teaser made to be as vague as possible, so this could very well be wrong. But The Creature from the Black Lagoon is the first and ONLY horror movie I have found to come close to fitting everything. And it doesn't just come close, it is a near perfect fit!

Gillman fits. Everything. The font of the 4 and why it goes to the bottom. The colors used. The textures of the background. The teaser is damn near screaming The Creature from the Black Lagoon or at least something very close to it.

The teaser itself can be a picture of someone swimming in the dark of night. Their legs below the surface of a black abyss and something waiting deep below for the right moment to drag them down. Never to be seen again.

  • Im sticking with Gillman, The Creature from the Black lagoon.

I just don't see any evidence for Candyman in the teaser, Jason is still trapped in legal issues and doesn't fit the teaser, Pyramid Head only partially fits the teaser in the shape of the 4, Xenomorph's only relation to the teaser is because both are black, I haven't found or read anything that fits the teaser other than Gillman.

The teaser can be black water with the gold being air bubbles. Hinting towards something underwater themed. Black water also hints towards the Black Lagoon. The 4's shape/font fits if seen as a pair of legs and it going down to the bottom meaning the person being dragged under water. That hints towards the main goal of Gillman being to drag women into the lagoon. The gold coloring/metal itself fits in TCftBL being a golden age classic, who also fits the basic description of it being a "classic license".

Every part of the teaser can fit The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Everything but the skull itself. The skull I can't explain other than it being part of DbD's tally mark logo but the skull being gold fits and it ozzing black liquid fits.

So far, I have yet to see ANY evidence for any other movie or named person that fits more than a single part of the teaser.

it's not like that - you don't have to have it to get the benefit from it

No one has to have DS to get benefit from it if there is an obsession for any other possible reason. Even Killer perks offer the benefits of DS.

Think about that. Survivors gain benefit from DS even if the KILLER runs an obsession perk!

  • @MegMain98 said:

I would love Creature from the Black Lagoon but I don’t see how they would implement his power as it should most certainly revolve around water.

Agreed that I don't see a good power from the Creature. Maybe they could do something of a Wraith/Demogorgon hybrid of the Creature swimming under the map for faster travel. But that wouldn't work in maps with multiple levels or 2 story buildings.

A form of sonar might work as a tracking power like Doctor.

Maybe reuse the water fountains from the Plague and the Creature can gain temporary buffs from wetting himself with a counter effect of getting debuffs when dried out. Sorta like a reverse Oni. Starts strong but quickly weakens over time as he uses his buffs.

What ever the power is, that's for the devs to make. But if nothing else. The Creature has been shown time and time again strong enough to crush a mans skull or strangle someone within seconds. So it clearly wouldn't need much help in killing random Survivors.

  • Guess Im wrong seeing the complete lack of opinions over 8 hours. That or no one cares about theories not about Candyman, Pyramid Head, or Jason.

So which killer does fit that description of gold and metal? and black oil oozing from the skull?

Iv looked and looked over google images using any form of text I can think of covering gold, oil, or a mix of them. I also skimmed over a wiki list that "supposedly" named every horror movie made since the the 1920s. Doubt I seen everything, HIGHLY doubt it. But I just haven't been able to find anything that fits all 3.

Very few movies fit the 4s font at first glance. There is several different posters and ads for just about every movie made so I might have looked through 5% at BEST, but nothing worth noting. The font could also be something within the movie itself and not in promotional fluff. Though how extremely drawn out the 4 is in going all the way below the teaser is likely as important as the font itself.

Gold and oil aren't exactly good themes either when doing random searches. Plenty of stuff about Aztec, Mayan, Amazon, Congo, or those likes that have gold as a sub plot. Oil is a harder thing to come by though I'll admit but they exist. BOTH gold and oil? I'll NEVER be able to know without sitting down and watching every single movie that even remotely looks to fit. That would take days to gather a list of movies, weeks to find copies of them all, and likely months to watch.

Im stumped to put it simple. No ideas at all and I am working off of assumptions as well in it being literal gold and oil. They could be a reference instead of raw materials.

The gold could mean "golden age" and the oil can be an artistic vision "black and white" using the colors black and gold as I only assume it is oil from the skull. But as the skull itself is no more than the DbD tally mark logo, it should be ignored. That even makes the hints support each other. The font is the odd man out, but "golden age" and "black and white" both refer to classic films.

Meaning it could be one of the original move monsters such as Frankenstein's Monster, Invisible Man, Dracula, The Mummy, or The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

    Crazy thought.

The Creature from the Black Lagoon. It fits. It fits VERY WELL!

That movie is a golden age classic. Fits the gold theme as well as the vague "classic license" detail in the teasers description.

It is black and white as well as deals with water. Black and white is obvious, but after taking another look at the teaser's background. The black could be water and the gold could be air bubbles. Those gold spots, are all ROUNDED! Ignoring the skull as I assume we should and the background gold spots are all circles of varying sizes and look a LOT like air bubbles in water.

That leaves the font used for the 4. A pair of human legs can make that shape.

Watch this clip and compare it yourself.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ariuokNFhSw

Notice the bubbles of air all being varying sizes of circles in and out of focus, just like the teasers background. Now look at the 2 minute mark. Her legs roughly form the shape of the teasers 4, be it backwards and upside down, and see how the Creature nearly grabs those legs to drag her all the way to the bottom. That matches the 4s font AND it going all the way below the bottom

    It fits EVERYTHING!

Well, I wouldn't exactly boil him all the way down to "just a guy who plays DBD" since he is both a content creator whose job it is to cover Dead By Daylight and related news day in and day out and someone who has been doing it alongside playing the game since 2016 so he also has the benefit of a very great amount of experience, which makes him stand out a bit more than just "a guy who plays DBD"

And if that wasn't enough he's also a Fog Whisperer, which is a group of people who have been recognized by the dev team themselves as individuals who have "who have gone above and beyond with their impact on the Dead by Daylight community." (a quote from a community manager / official member of the dev team) So, whether you like it or not, his word does carry a certain amount of weight and influence and there's not much you can do or say to change or dispute that.

I only brought him up as an example because he is a very well-respected and extremely wholesome character in the Dead By Daylight community, so I used him as an example to point out both "toxic people" (which I guess, is me in this situation) who are just wet blankets raining on the parades of others and "wholesome, positive people" can share the same opinion and just go about expressing it in different ways.

And yes, I skimmed your whole post (I might as well have read it in full, even if I wasn't hanging on to your every word) and yes, I read your silly attempt to somehow squeeze "Silent Hill" into the framework of the words the devs said. If you read my original post in full, you would have seen me shoot that notion down completely and utterly.

You also would have read me say that the third anniversary teaser image had NOTHING to do with the chapter, so if I'm forced to repeat myself more blatantly: it had nothing to do with Ghostface. Side by side here is the Scream 3 teaser image:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/169/image.png

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/645/image.png

and here is DBD 3rd anniversary:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/492/image.png

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/990/image.png

Not only does the Ghostface we have have nothing to do with the scream movies or franchise. At all. THESE. LOOK. NOTHING. ALIKE.

Stop drawing comparisons and parallels where they don't exist! You don't have actual empirical evidence, and regardless of whether or not you like my saying that, doesn't change the fact.

And finally going back to the Konami thing, I'm sorry, but I can't change the fact that the company literally soiled and sullied their entire name and brand to the point where now almost nobody wants to support them as a company, so now when everybody thinks "Konami nowadays" they think of the popular phrase: "F*ck Konami" and for good reason. If you don't know about that reason, you should honestly take the time to look it up and see whether or not it impacts your "theory" and I guarantee you it does.

You are being too strict. The font used in the 3rd year teaser was rather close to your link image as both was written with a knife. Blood was used to wright it to further enforce that. And its overall coloring being a shade of white plastic, even the in the darkened images of Spirit and Clown. All of that was hints towards Ghostface.

Where OP is failing is that he is over focusing on a SINGLE detail while ignoring the other hints of the 4th teaser.

PH fits the font used for the 4. But what about the gold that 4 is made of? What about the background? The entire background looks to be made of gold metal covered in black. The 2nd teaser shows even more gold having the skull also made of out gold and even details that the blackness is likely to be oil. What is oil often called? Black gold!

The OP is outright ignoring more than 2/3s of the teaser and is solely focusing on a single detail. PH or Silent Hill has nothing to do with gold the color nor metal that I can remember. Oil as well I can't recall having to do with anything in Silent Hill.

Ghostface fit all 3 details of the 3rd teaser. Font, material, and color. PH only fits the font in the 4th teaser.

I've seen this multiple times on the forums and its a bad solution. Punish the player on the hook (by disabling their perk that works on max 2 occasions during the game) for another player who goes down. Imagine being on the hook, oni/billy go away with their respective power, down someone and hook him right after you got unhooked. He gets back to the hook and tunnels you down. Even if you hooked someone else, you can still go back and tunnel the first person down. Just bc someone got hooked (bc the player got caught off guard or played bad) doesnt mean that you cant tunnel another person down.

    My suggestion:

    • timer goes 2x if the survivor works on gens, searches chests, cleanses totems, heals other players, opening gates, goes into a locker and/or during active EGC
    • timer deactivates if you get healed or the deep wound state is activated

This would stop the chain of 2nd chance perks like being on the hook, getting unhooked + healed from adrenaline, gets hit twice bc of BT / styptic agent and still having DS. Also synergizes with second wind (get unhooked, work on gens for 30s, get healed for free while ds is active during that time) and counters perks like we will make it (soft counter, bc wwmi is 90s at t3) and adrenaline/bt.

The issue arent 2nd chance perks like ds but chaining them all together to take multiple hits and still being invulnerable to get picked up due to ds.

If a Survivor gets off one gen early and goes to another, should he be punished for going back to the first gen?

B&W candidates - Nosferatu, Island of Lost Souls, the Blob, karloff/universal monsters of various sorts.

Safe to ignore the Blob. Can't recall the exact quote, but I seem to remember that there wouldn't be any more "monster" type Killers afer Demogorgon who would need unique skeletons. DbD is mainly human Survivors and human Killers in the lore, we was lucky enough to get my little Rawr-gon.

Nosferatu, a vampire Killer could work and can have a multitude of powers. Paralyzing eyes, looking at him slows/stuns you. Transformations, unlikely for animals but mist/fog is an option. Vampire lore is VERY open for DbD.

Island of Lost Souls, I would LOVE to see a mutant or man-beast Killer! Can't think how it wouldn't fit in DbD.

Karloff or other Universal classics. Anything is possible really. Though I have my doubts on getting a big name movie monster like Frank or Imhotep.

  • My opinion, the new Killer has something to do with gold and oil. The teaser image has the 4 made of gold, the background looks to be gold metal covered in oil, and the skull itself is also made of gold covered in oil.

We can ignore the skull itself. That has been unofficially confirmed to be no more than part of the DbD tally mark logo. The oil might be worth ignoring as well. Can't really say if it should though for a couple of reasons. Oil is called "back gold" and oil has had nothing to do with DbD in the past. But the gold itself is something to focus on if you ask me. If you compare the 4th year teaser with the 3rd year teaser, everything shown is part of the hint. So it is safe to assume the 4th year teaser would do the same. Font used plus background color and materials.

But I simply can't find anything in horror that fits everything. And the common suggestions here don't either. Candy Man has nothing to do with the metal or color gold nor oil plus the font is off as well. Pyramid Head's head shape fits the font VERY well and oil could be blood so old and rotten it turned black, but I can't recall anything about gold in any Silent Hill games/movies.

Iv spent a too long to admit now doing random google searches looking over horror images for movies/games/books trying to find anything. The same font. Something based around gold or oil. Nothing comes close to fitting all 3. Got even less for "classic" horror.

Maybe the gold and oil isn't literal gold and oil. Golden age? Black and white films?

For all I know. The new Killer could be from "The Man Who Laughs".

If they do, I hope they don't over do it.

It's literally the only weapon we have in our possession against killers who play like that.

I hope they think, rethink it over and over again and come to a decision that beneficial to both sides.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9esCA8_EPeY

That clip seems rather fitting. DS is too strong or its own good and it is causing Survivors to have a SEVERE decline of skill. Why bother learning better when you can just use a perk?

Survivors, in my region at least in the East coast US, have clearly stopped bothering to learn skill. I'll get a rare good team. But the VAST majority of Survivors seem to have either forgotten how to play or never learned in the first place. Not able to hide, no idea how to mindgame, doesn't pay attention to the terror radius, or simply make bad play after bad play again and again.

    Oh, and MegMain.

I still haven't seen you nor the other DS supporters recognize that Survivors control far more how DS is used/abused.

  • For me, "viable" means playing and doing well with that Killer depends on my personal skill. No need to depend on luck nor someone else making mistakes. This doesn't mean that the Killer is GOOD or not. A Killer for me can be viable but still weak in the meta. Should still earn wins more often that not, but those wins will need effort in learning and using that Killer's power.

Clown is an example of a non viable Killer. His power does little to help in Survivor location or to end chases. Doing well with Clown often depends on Survivors making mistakes or being unskilled. A great player with the Clown, is still just the Clown.

Deathslinger is an example of a viable Killer. His power allows a Deathslinger to do well based solely on the player controlling him. If you can aim and mind game, odds are you WILL do well. Survivor mistakes help, but aren't needed if the Killer's skill is good enough.

If anyone cares, here is my opinion on viable and non viable Killers and why.

    Viable-

Hillbilly. Mobility, one hit downs, and all without any real downsides.

Nurse. Mobility, pure unfiltered mobility that allows a Nurse to bypass ANYTHING in her way.

Hag. Insane amounts of defense. 1/3 to 1/2 of any given map can be controlled by a Hag if allowed.

Huntress. Ranged attacks are simply god tier in melee based games.

Nightmare. Teleporting to gens gives instant mobility and his snares give help in chases.

Spirit. It's 100% her mind game potential. With added mobility.

Plague. Keeping everyone wounded, having the ability to punish cleansing with a ranged attack, and added tracking.

Ghost face. The king of stealth. Never underestimate how good being able to turn off your terror radius and red stain is.

Demogorgon. Tunnels offer map travel plus a time sink for Survivors and Shred has both ranged and mind game potential.

Oni. Slow to start, but some of THE best snowball potential once he gets going.

Deathslinger. A near instant ranged attack and Deep Wound for a forced time sink.

    Non viable-

Trapper. Too slow to setup and too dependent on Survivor mistakes.

Wraith. He is basically a M1 Killer that might get a jump on someone with cloak.

Shape. The stealth helps but he takes a long time to build up, can't snowball well, and is a M1 Killer.

Doctor. Anti and negative stealth builds work very well, but he ends up as another M1 Killer.

Cannibal. He is a slower Billy, not much else to say.

Pig. Ambush is near worthless, her stealth slows her down, leaving Pig with depending on M1.

Clown. He has next to nothing to work with.

Legion. GREAT at getting information like Doctor, but Legion must fall back on M1 as his only means to down.

Because we've provided scenarios and valid options and strategies on how to counter DS but killers are either impulsive, impatient and whiny when they get hit with DS.

They're not adapting and they're not learning the proper counters to DS, so they come to the forums, yell at the Devs for a nerf and hope in time the perk will get nerfed to their liking.

DS is a perk that only gets its use unless you let it be used. No one but the killer has control over their mouse and keyboard, no one is forced to open that locker, to pick up that survivor.

ALL those choices are YOURS and yours alone.

Shocker isn't it? So the survivor community along with the killer community (like myself) provide valid options and methods on how to counter DS but killers are so whiny they jump up and down and try to tear down every option we give them and give us these ridiculous scenarios in hopes to turn our opinion.

It baffles me that THIS is what the part of the killer community has been reduced to. As a killer myself, I'm shocked, and appalled at the whiny side of the killer community.

Let me respond with one detail.

You are purely thinking that ALL events in the game happen because the Killer made them so. Never once have I seen you recognize that Survivor actions are just as if not more responsible for what happens in gameplay.

When Survivor gets unhooked, they have a choice how to use their time. They can choose to confront the Killer. Make a save in his face, work a gen next to him, body block for another Survivor, the list goes on and all even while still wounded if they want. All of these should be horrible mistakes and more or less seen as a Survivor asking for death. But DS makes it so NONE of those choices can be punished!

It is far more often than not the SURVIVOR'S choice that DS gets used, or as many would call it, abused. Killers do have their own choices, but you should NEVER forget that Survivors have choices of their own.

And that's my deal and how I see DS. Survivors seek out reasons to abuse it knowing they are perfectly safe from any punishment doing so.

Can’t slug a survivor when they jump in a locker.

Can’t really slug a survivor either when you’re at the last gen and you know it’s gonna pop soon.

Can’t slug them when you’re in the endgame.

Can’t slug them when you’re facing one of those SWF and you know one of them probably has unbreakable.

I’m not going to slug a survivor either when I don’t expect the timer to be still up. For example when I chased the unhooker, put them on a hook and then find this other guy...

While slugging indeed makes that survivor useless, the fact remains it could have been a hook. In the end it’s hooking that brings the killer closer to their objective unless you’re actually running a slugging build.

Dude, just give up. This entire topic has become a circle jerk and NOTHING you say will ever do anything but give them another chance to talk more.

Just walk away and ignore them. The majority already knows that DS is too strong doe to making all Survivors safer than they should be. Doesn't even have to be DS itself, just there being an obsession in the game forces all Killers to second guess themselves as it is impossible to know who has DS until you eat it or seen in post game. Gets worse if the Killer himself is running an obsession perk.

But like I said. NOTHING said here will do anything but prolong the circle jerk. Just ignore and move on to another topic and let this one die.

  • Deathslinger is more defensive than most Killers. Low mobility means he cant spread pressure over any given map, but where he can put pressure it is very high thanks to being 60% immune to loops.

Deathslinger is closer to Nurse than Huntress in my opinion. He simply does as he wants whenever possible with much Survivors can do but maybe dodge.

Take a bit of learning and luck with maps. But I hold Deathslinger as another viable Killer.

  • Injuring a Survivor has its advantages. Applying Deep Wound as well.

And injured Survivor will be easier to kill later if they dont heal. If they do, it gives a Killer more time to work with. Deep Wound forces another healing and so offers more time.

This really helps when you need to be defensive or putting out pressure. Put someone in DW and they are fully pressured without you needing to keep chasing. Allowing a Deathslinger to pressure elsewhere.

Put it this way. If a Survivor already has a lead, as a 110% Killer Deathslinger has NO reason to chase that guy. It would take a lot of time to just get close and it would be a complete waste of said time. But if you land that long shot. That is making something from nothing.

Eating a stun to gain pressure, or have nothing at all. Looks like progress to me.

Wasnt it that way before? And no one minded that much?

I even distinctly remember my friends helping out a killer that was obviously using their adept perks.

Originally rank was linked to blood point gains. Earn 20k BP, at only 5k per category counting, and you double pipped. Not overly hard as you really didnt need to kill hardly anyone, but took effort back than as BP gains was bad.

Then came the Victory Cube who made only hooks/kills count for rank. 4 kills was 100% a double pip.

Lastly with the emblem system Killers need to do everything to earn rank. Chase, attack, hook, use their powers, and stall gens all while preventing healing and gens from popping too fast.

Killer adept has always been linked to double pips. But before the emblem system it was far easier to do earn them and Killer pips didn't depend on anything but the Killer playing well. Unlike now where Survivor actions can prevent Killers from earning emblems by cranking out gens or simply healing before being hooked.

I will have to disagree with you on this.

Wraith is amazing at getting bps.

Obviously not as good as legion or doctor... but still amazing.

A Wraith earning good BP means he is able to make full use of his cloak. Not easy to do and is a constant time sink that could cost him by cloaking too much or giving too much warning coming out of cloak.

That's my point. Most Killers have problems breaking 20K BP a game due to how often they can't use their powers or how little their powers help to end chases. Clown can stack BP like the best by spamming gas everywhere, but he can't make use of that power to win games. Costing him BP elsewhere. Trapper is another on the other end. His power takes ages to setup and has good odds of never paying off. But when it does, a high BP Trapper is something to outright fear!

Most Killers can show good/great gameplay through high BP gains. Some takes more effort than others to have good BP gains but the tend to even out where if you have a 25K+ game it likely was VERY intense and well played by everyone. Fun in other words.

Doc and Legion are just BP whores though. Able to stack BP like nothing on top of being decent Killers.

  • Mind sharing what settings that is and the resolution %?

The only way I can mimic my game looking like that is by going into low and lowering the resolution % to sub 40. In those settings my game seems to match how those Survivors look. But for some reason I can seem to match your HUD. That pick the HUD and menus look rather blurry, mine even in low settings and resolution set to 0% keep very crisp and clean. Image compression maybe?

Anyway. If that is what you are running under, then that explains why the game looks like #########. Running at the lowest possible settings tends to make a game look the worst it possibly can.

You do realize that most of the things you've said mean absolutely nothing with what I've said, right? Also the devs allowed the bad use of the .Ini for not adding options in -3 goddamn years- mind you.

You've made a post too long for little meaning, and you're trying to prove what? My main point is pretty much the reality, go check anywhere else where people got +15 fps for disabling these unnecessary settings which you seem to be fine with, well, not all of us like them and we've got motion sickness/headaches thanks to this game's poor job when it comes to graphics + horrible optimization.

And I doubt very much you can try and excuse that.

    Fairness over personal preference.

Welcome to gaming. Where everyone should play by the same rules and standards in order to keep the gameplay fair. Your personal preference, needs, and wants shouldn't be held any higher than anyone else's. Everyone suffers from motion sickness, headaches, or worse. Everyone. Even me.

One eye out of focus, one eye colorblind, and prone to motion sickness so bad that I can't ride in a car for longer than 30 minutes before feeling ill. But oddly, and luckily, enough I can drive without any problems at all. In gaming? Headaches a plenty if I don't take care to take the time to adjust to the game being played. But that's me and my needs. You don't see me asking for special attention.

I mean, if someone spend $12k on a high-end PC to run their games at 144 fps 4k, then I think they should be allowed to run their games at 144 fps 4k.

Who knows, maybe 144 fps 4k would be the standard for this game and needing to tweak the settings to make it barely run on low-end PCs wouldn't be a thing if it wasn't so poorly optimized with its spaghetti code with an options menu that's so bare-bones that it makes Runescape look good.

The players don't decide what the standards are. Devs do per on a game by game biases. If the devs want a game to run in a certain way under certain settings, then that's how everyone needs to play the game to keep it fair for all. Don't like it? Play something else.

  • @Enlyne said:

My man there's people with high-end pcs pretty much running this game like crap, it's a matter of optimization more than anything, locking the settings up BEFORE adding the proper options was a stupid idea at best and they've proven they don't care, there's a lot of cases where high-end pcs and low-end pcs who removed the AA + Vsync made the FPS waaay better.

Also you shouldn't sound so aggressive just because someone could play before and now they can't, assuming money makes you look like a dick as if you knew what they do with it or how much they earn, there's more to life than PC gaming.

    Define "way better".

Not all games need to run in 4K at 144 FPS. That is a want, not a need. And going beyond the standard can be an exploit in its own right as well. Higher FPS gives its own advantages. Sometimes it is in response time, other times it those frame rates effect how the game plays. I know of games that allows players to scale cliffs and walls otherwise impossible if they happen to have a high enough frame rate. Or Being able to set their rendering to show more than what the game was intended to show.

Going too far below the standard can be an exploit. Going too far above the standard can also be an exploit. Standards are standards because that is the settings the game was built to be played at. This is a PvP game. Meaning you should play within the standards. Allowing players to go outside of those standards either above or below opens up too many problems and possible abuse.

If this was a single player game. I wouldn't give a damn. Play how you want by any means you want. But DbD isn't single player.

  • @BabyClaudette said:

The amount of bloodpoints you get does not mean anything when it comes to your rank.

Shows the effort you put into the game and Killers expect that effort to be rewarded. 30K BP is by no means a small feat. More so with Wraith who doesn't have any added means of map pressure needing an even higher amount of effort to earn with how quick a game can end.

Moral is important as well. Being told "do better next time" after playing a near perfect game murders your moral and ruins the will to keep playing.

  • Locking the .ini file isn't about those that need to squeeze the most out of their system. It is to prevent people from going BELOW the recommended settings to exploit those settings as much as possible.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lh6WF29UpkI&feature=youtu.be

THAT is why user settings and .ini files are locked. People abuse the hell out of them. The devs should put in better options in game but they can't ignore crap like that either. And to be perfectly honest. If your PC is so poor that you have problems playing a game, then maybe you shouldn't be playing the game.

That's one of the pros/cons of PC gaming. You NEED to update your hardware once in a while or you will be left behind. PC often gives better options and flexibility for aging hardware, but sooner or later you will need to upgrade. Can't afford a new PC? Tough luck. Learn to budget you money better and plan for these things like everyone else.

  • If I had to guess, and attempting to ignore SWF bypassing match making. High rank Killers tend to get high rank Survivors more often than high rank Survivors getting high rank Killers.

The reason? It is far more easy to rank up as Survivor than as Killer. Making it so high rank Survivor lobbies need to draw from lower ranks in order to fill up games from there not being enough high rank Killers to go around.

  • @minful said:

I'm a PC player. My hardware is enough to comfortably play above 100 frames at any time, my connection is wired and I live in Sao Paulo (city in which the server is hosted) so my ping never goes above 15.

I know it's going to happen when the players (killer and survivors) start running into walls and actions such as repairing generators, vaulting and using items stop working. The end game screen comes up and it says "Match server closed" in the post game chat.

I also know the match server didn't in fact close because my friends keep playing normally and tell me I disconnected.

There was also this strange incident in which me and the streamer I was watching got this simultaneously, and that made me think there's indeed some type of pattern behind this, couldn't figure out what though. Maybe it's the brazilian servers, don't know. Still extremely inconvenient.

Keep Task Manager open while you play and have it in the performance tab monitoring your ethernet.

This reads to be a type of internet outage and keeping Task Manger open should tell you what is happening to your internet. Download and upload rates should remain a constant during gameplay. When you DC, the game should attempt to reconnect you can see with data spikes. Single tick spikes often means your connection to the internet died. Maybe your router/modem, maybe your ISP. Could be for a number of reasons as well. Anything from damaged wires, hardware failure, weather, some animal, or too many people online in that area at once.

But, there's a catch. You need to go through these DCs in order to test it out and gather data. And each DC means your get a longer ban. It is best to play other online games for a few days to see if this happens elsewhere. Not just 1-2 games. 1-2 DAYS of normal gameplay at least to cover bases and keep yourself safe from longer DC bans.

After a few days or so of other online games and monitoring your data use you should know if it is DbD, your hardware, or your ISP causing the problem. Might be lucky and figure it out in under an hour by having DCs elsewhere. It will be a process in any case and it will be a pain in the ass. But this might be something bigger than internet connections.

I know that too well. Bad internet on my end lead me to finding out the main power line feeding my house went bad. It corrupted and was 100% a fire in waiting that forced me to move out till it was fixed.

And as I type all that out.. I see DbD's twitter just updated that they are having connection problems on their end. Still a good idea to figure these things out yourself anyway if possible. Never know what you'll learn.

  • Mind giving some details to these random crashes/DCs?

PC or console? If PC, what is your hardware? Are they really random, can you feel it about to happen, or do you notice a pattern? Are you using a wired or wireless connection? What is your average ping to servers, does that ping change while in lobby?

Look, I'll be honest with you. I know DbD can and often a buggy mess of a game. But DbD also isn't prone to crashing or causing DCs without reason. Often enough that reason can be a bad install (I personally had a patch install bad and cause massive problems) but in my years of playing DbD crashes or DCs simply do not happen without reason.

For all we know this could be a problem with your hardware, internet connection, ISP, or physical location and not the game itself. The more information you can tell us the better we can help. Saying "my game crashed, FIX IT" does jack ######### for anybody.

I don’t get it, you are upset that people know how to play efficiently together?

play some solo and tell me how much fun you had, SWF is the only consistent method to having good teammates, yet killer “mains” dont understand the logic in it

We get it, but some of us also understand that DbD wasn't built to support good teammates or teaming in general.

Look at raw Survivor gameplay. No in game VOIP, only 60ish seconds of text chat, only 2 emotes, all of that was built to LIMIT coordination and prevent Survivors from being good teammates as Survivors are not suppose to be a "team". The devs have said countless times that they do NOT want Survivors to have an easy form of communication.

DbD was built and designed to make Survivor teams as inconsistent as possible. DbD is balanced around that being a fact and that is why SWF is so strong. SWF breaks that rule by turning a co-optional game into a co-op.

SWF is also holding Survivors back. It makes the game so easy that most Survivors don't need to learn any real skill and can get by with half assed attempts. That in turn fills rankings with potatoes who never learned proper skilled gameplay as they never needed it. This also leads to the popular saying of "ranks are worthless" because Survivor made ranking up worthless due to playing easy mode more often than not.

What you call "logic" in SWF being the only way to play DbD might just be the wrong point of view considering that DbD was, is, and never likely will be balanced around SWF due to it at its core being about 4 random solo Survivors tossed in with a random Killer to see who lives or who dies.

You can see where I'm coming from though, right? I shouldn't be punished because my teammate is an idiot.

Co-optional gameplay. Survivors have the choice of working together or against each other.

If someone makes a bad save, sandbag their ass. Drop a pallet in their face, block a window, lead the Killer towards them if able. You aren't being punished by the game, you are being punished by a selfish Survivor. Return the favor! You're playing solo. So look out for yourself and treat other Survivors as a means to an end just like they do with you.

Or teach that Survivor to be better by talking it out. Your choice.

That is one BIG reason why SWF is so strong and breaks balance so hard. It takes that co-optional gameplay and makes it nearly pure co-op.

I see what you mean. What I'd like to point out, it's that DS becomes more powerful in the EGC because tunneling and camping become stronger as well. They're the sides of the same coin.

The argument goes both ways. You played without tunneling throughout the match. You can still do so in the endgame. You simply choose not to. You have perfectly good reasons to change your strategy in EGC which I wouldn't even dream to question. Still, you can argue for both sides with good arguments.

You say the perk helps a helpless survivor. Why shouldn't it help them in the endgame as well? Why should they become suddenly helpless? Again, you can argue for both sides.

There is no rule that forces you to play 'fair' or 'unfair'. You can choose to tunnel or not, with or without DS. The matter of the fact is that without DS/BT, this game was a tunnel fest and I doubt anyone would contest that statement. You can argue that DS punishes you for playing fairly during the match. It can also be argued that killers not playing fairly punish you for making DS a necessary evil. Again, it goes both ways.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1216823#Comment_1216823

You're not talking about your backside at all. Your points are all very valid in my book. However, there are a couple details I disagree with. If a killer wants to tunnel, they can do so and there's no amount of skills that can make up for it.

To counter tunneling, you need skills AND perks. It's just the state of the game mechanics. You can have DS and go down 10 seconds after you escape the killer's grasp. On the flipside, you can be a god looper, but if you're tunneled and there's no DS/BT in play, chances are you'll be dead in the water more often than not with little you can do about it.

Also, you're reasoning as if the survivors work as a coordinated team. They're not. SWF Seal Team 6 are far and a few, at least in my very personal experience as a killer at rank 1. To counter hard tunneling, some coordination is needed. Not necessarily comms, but at least the knowledge that your teammates are reliable and they know the correct plays. That simply doesn't happen often in normal games. That's why many stuff in this game is simply a pub stomper, which is not healthy imho and also why camping does work often, contrary to the parroted narrative in this forum, but that's a discussion for another time.

If the Killer wants to tunnel that bad. It should end in a lose lose. Killer gets that kill, at the cost of the game. Sooner or later that Killer should be stuck in lower ranks while the majority of Survivors move on to higher ranks leaving those low Killers behind.

Sucks to be that one Survivor to be tunneled. But that's the ropes. It could have been anyone. It is up to each Survivor to learn how to avoid being that one poor tunneled fool while also learning how to punish Killers for overly tunneling.

It should all feed back on each other. Survivors and Killers learning to better their skills advance to higher ranks where they belong. While other Survivors and Killers who don't bother to better their skills (and maybe depend too much on perks instead) get left behind.

Like I saide to PigMain. DbD isn't a "team" game. It is (supposed to be) co-optional. Not 4v1 of Survivors against the Killer. But 4 1v1 games at once of each single Survivor against the Killer with the choice of working as a team, or not.

Ok. So what about those times where you're on a hook in the open, or where the killer waits just long enough to not hit the other guy, and you have all of 2 seconds to make a break for it? In a stroke of normality, you don't have Dead Hard or Sprint Burst, instead opting to take Balanced Landing or Lithe.

    Your only option is DS.

    Call it mutually assured destruction.

That's the fault of the other Survivor. He made the mistake of making an unsafe unhook. Or both of you made a mistake of staying at the hook too long to likely heal on the spot.

Without going into details that would make this post way too damned long, Survivors need to learn when to save or when NOT to save. DbD is a horror "survival" game and survival sometimes mean leaving someone to their fate so that you make it out if the Killer is hellbent on killing only 1 person at all costs. This then loops back into my first post of Survivors learning how to evade/avoid/loop the Killer.

To sum it all up as short as I can.

If Killers need to learn gameplay skill to do their job well, Survivors should learn some gameplay skill of their own to do theirs.

  • @PrettyFaceKate said:

In general, if a killer wants to tunnel, they'll do it regardless.

Regarding your question specifically, go into a match without an obsession and get found first. You will test very easily if it was DS that promoted tunneling.

DS and BT are a necessary evil because there's no other mechanic that dissuades killrushing a single player.

Now, I might sound to be talking out by backside or being one in general. But playing better should be what first prevents kill rushing instead of a perk.

That hooked Survivor should learn how to better loop or evade the Killer to prevent being tunneled. And the other Survivor/s saving the hooked should learn when it is safe/unsafe to do so, or at least be a distraction to give the hooked a chance to get away.

Perks shouldn't be a replacement for player skill. This goes for both Killer and Survivor, but it does tend to be Survivor perks that give more second chances that have little to no counters and/or warnings. This (from my point of view) does make Survivor players a bit on the side of potato quality more often than not when Survivors have perks that grants them "skill" without needing to learn it.

I dont know why wont you rather be rewarded for improving your skill level as a killer you clearly not good(yes i have watched your streams). If you suck at killer doesnt mean others do.

Funny how Survivors tell Killers to get good, but refuse to do the same themselves.

  • "A squeaky wheel gets the grease"

Ignoring complaints or not correcting them through explanations will only end badly. An open discussion, even an argument, is better overall in healthy game balance.

Old ruin would provide a very large slowdown in low ranked games. When put up against survivors that could hit great skillchecks though, it became relatively useless.

New ruin does practicaly nothing against gen speeds as only high mobility killers are truly able to create pressure and capitalize on its effect. In most games though, it's gone before it can really be utilized.

In my opinion, new ruin is better than the old one as it can be really strong if used properly in certain builds.

It wasn't useless against Survivors that could hit great skill checks. Without Ruin those same Survivors are still hitting great skill checks and each one gives a 2% boost to gen progress. 2% doesn't sound like much by itself, but they add up rather fast and is 1.6 seconds time saved for each.

1.6 seconds for each great skill check is often stronger than entire perks Killers have to slow gen progress. And those great skill checks are 100% free unlike Killer perks that need a hell of a lot of time or effort investment to gain.

My opinion is that great skill checks is one of the main reasons gen rushing is a thing. They alone cut gen times by a decent amount before Survivor perks or toolboxes take effect. And those same perks/toolboxes often can give more skill checks to boost the effect of greats even more. This is also a big reason why Unnerving Presence, what should be a decent pressure perk for Killer, is so weak. It gives more chances to get great skill checks and turns UP into a perk that HELPS Survivors more often than not.

sooo fix your internet? update your router? port forward?

You are a detriment to the team while your connection is so unstable that it disconnects you, thats why the penalty is there, fix your internet.

That isn't an option at times. A few years back the power cables to my house corroded and made me have VERY unstable internet due to unstable power. There was no "fixing" my internet as I had to rewire the power lines coming into the house.

But that still doesn't make you wrong. I knew my net was crap, so I didn't play online till I got everything repaired.

If you are unable to play online in a stable manner. Don't play online. It really is that simple.

I find it unfair when exit gates are on the same wall and two survivors can’t get out. Basically being held hostage C:

Sometimes survival means looking out for yourself. Sandbag the other Survivor if you need to in cases where both cant make it out.

Or attempt to split up and take a 50/50 chance. The Killer can't be at both doors at once. Even if they are close to each other NO Killer can be in 2 places at the same time. If both Survivors split up then at least one of you should get your gate open and get out.

That is one of the things that draw me into DbD back when it was in beta. Having to survive in any way you can be it together or alone. Helping or working against each other. Co-optinal. Co-op, that's optional. But then SWF was added and we are still dealing with that to this day by shifting Survivors too far towards the co-op side and not giving Killers the chance to take advantage of the optional side.

  • It smells like a knock off or a forced "we must have multi-player" put on the devs. Much like any other game with a forced MP mode I just don't see anything coming out of it nor it having any lasting potential. Reminds me of the PS3/360 generation where EVERY game HAD to have some kind of MP mode tossed in no matter what.

It feels like a cheap reality TV show that belongs in the RE movie timeline.

It's always been my understanding that killing as the killer is kind of a by-product of what your ACTUAL objective is...

    The Entity wants FEAR

Just grabbing the survivors and killing them doesn't feed The Entity fear. The person is dead, they are no longer a resource for fear, they're just dead now. But chasing after them, destroying the generators (the only way for the survivors to escape and therefore scaring them that they can't), bleeding survivors with hits, etc; THAT is what The Entity wants. Once the survivor is at maximum fear, THAT'S when you finish them off.

Basically as the killer, you're supposed to toy with your prey before you finally just put them down for good

I agree with this and love that kind of Killer gameplay myself. Hunting Survivors for sport, working my way to a kill, taking the time to make it fun for me and others. Maybe role play a bit depending on what Killer it is. But that's the problem. Time.

Survivors want the game over as fast as possible. Their objective is to do gens and GTFO! It's too east to do just that and nothing else. Survivors don't NEED to do anything past that. Everything else is simply a want, not a need. So that's what Survivors will tend to do. Nothing but what they need and get out as soon as possible.

Killer on the other hand as more needs than anything else. Need to get into chases, need to stall gens, need to kill, need to not kill too fast and earn multiple hooks, ect. Need after need after need. Killers don't WANT to do all of that. They NEED to do all of that and more!

If Survivors needed to do more in game, then maybe things would even out. Adding a mandatory 2nd objective is one option. But as seen with the Hallowed Blight, the devs likely don't want another objective. Ever since then ALL talks of another objective stopped from the devs that I recall. Why? Adding another objective shifted balance WAY to far in favor of Killer. Survivors simply couldn't survive in that event and it likely ruined the idea of adding another objective.

I still say adding another objective could work. But it would have to be small like needing to sacrifice any random item to finish a gen.

Why should a dead players hit box still be in play though, if he was still alive fair enough? That was a very hard 90 degree turn for the "aim dressing"

Till the hook drops, that player is still in game and that is what the game triggers on. I agree that their hitbox should be removed sooner once the soul is taken due to there being no body anymore. But I still say this is user error as the OP shouldn't have given up control over the harpoon allowing Dwight to put the hook between them in the first place.

It's part of learning skill for any other game. You need to learn quirks and play around them. Any Killer should know that hooks have a hitbox and any Deathslinger should know to not give up control of his harpoon.

But for one the survivor on the hook was long gone, so they shouldn't have a hitbox there anymore anyways.

However, his hit recovery was just like when you miss a hit, since it was much faster than the normal recovery when hittin a survivor, so it seems like the hitbox was not there anymore, and it really just was auto aim, or what people mean when they say auto aim.

The Survivor hitbox wasn't there, the player's collision was though.

Don't really know the full details as I didn't code the game. But it looks to me that the game removes the Survivor's hitbox but as that player is still in game he keeps his collision as no 2 players can be in the same spot. And if that player is still there with full collision, then he can still be interacted with through normal means such as getting attacked even without his hitbox.

Killer attacks, sees player in range, it triggers his attack, but as there is no Survivor hitbox the attack isn't confirmed and doesn't play the wipe animation.

To fix something like that the devs would need to remove the player as well as his hitbox. Sounds like a simple fix. But I think that if they did move the player at the moment of sacrifice then they would break that player's camera as it is linked to their location as well. You would need to also disjoint the camera from Survivor instead of simply panning it around. A disjointed camera itself could cause its own problems to boot thanks to Survivors having a 3rd person POV. It could get stuck or start to clip both of who are very bad.

There often is no "simple fix" and have to make due with what you got. Still jank but fully workable, repeatable, and something you can play around. So there isn't any need to fix something that isn't broke when it would break other things doing so.

Look at dedicated servers as an example and how it breaks more than it fixed or never even fixed to start with.

  • The Killer's attack hitbox is a simple cylinder in front of him, the devs shown this a little bit back in a stream. Who ever enters that cylinder first and who is closest to the Killer (in case of multiple targets) triggers/takes the hit.

In the OP's video the hooked Survivor's hitbox was still active and was more or less touching his left screen. It was closer and even physically blocking the Killer from reaching that Dwight. Like it or not, everything here is working as intended.

What the OP should be mad about is not playing around the hook like that Dwight did. The Dwight was allowed to take control and force the hooked Survivor between him and the Killer. Dwight took advantage of OP's mistake. That mistake was not holding S and pulling Dwight towards him. When OP let got of S or even held W to go forward it allowed Dwight to move to the side to such an amount to use the hook and dying Survivor as a blocker. If OP didn't allow this, he should have landed the hit without problem.

I don't see a hitbox problem here. I see user error.

Distressing is a perk that's good with only a single killer, and all the terror radius perks, Which rarely get used other than for memeing.

I'm honestly concerned for you if you're getting concerned at a perk that almost always give survivors an EARLY WARNING to the killer.

Also... The INCREASED BLOODPOINTS need a change..? It increases the number of bloodpoints you obtain, how is that warranting of a change?

Giving too much warning is just as good as no warning at all. They give the same effect in the end in allowing the Killer to hide.

Low TR builds are obvious to how it works. Little to no warning means you are likely to get that much closer before a Survivor reacts to you. But they will become conditioned to react that much better/faster. Always on the lookout, never waiting to run, Survivors quickly learn to pay attention.

Big TR builds works by giving too much warning and conditioning Survivors to ignore the TR. This limits a Survivor's ability to react to anything without seeing it. If they react to the bigger TR, they waste time. If they ignore the TR, the Killer gets closer than normal.

Loud stealth is very much a thing.

Take Shape for example. Distressing works on a Shape rather well. EW1 and EW2 will be weaker (but still have rather small TRs) but when you reach EW3 Shape will have a MASSIVE TR. No Survivor should be able to judge where you are by TR alone anymore. Everyone will start to panic as Shape could be anywhere.

Billy is another example. Too much warning means people ignore it. Allowing Billy to snipe with his chainsaw. Demogorgon as well makes use of too much information. Wraith is decent for going from too much to too little warning and back.

Stealth is still stealth if you hide in either silence or chaos.
