I would possibly consider it taking the game hostage if I was one of the surviviors - it's a scummy move and you're forced to sit and wait or dc to get out of there. If nothing else, I'd report it as idling/not taking part in the game.

Is anyone else having issues since this most recent update hooking survivors? Normally the button appears, you hold it down and hook the survivor. Ever since the new update I keep swaying side to side, even when they’re not struggling, and I can barely get the hooking animation to start at times. I play on console but it doesn’t seem to be a lag issue. Anyone else had this, apologies if there is a duplicate post out there.
There's a few posts now - it seems to be a widespread issue across the various platforms. I had it this morning, some hooks went fine, others were a struggle; I would say about a 1/3 od my attemped hooks had the issue.
The suggestion (and it works) is to go for the nearest hook and drop the survivior, then pick them up and hook them. Hopefully this will be fixed really quickly.

Here's what the toxic swfs do. 3-4 survivors hide and do not work on any generators at all until they see the killer or their terror radius appear. 10 seconds after the killer leaves, they start working on the generator because the killer has to leave to check other generators since there were no indicators of any survivors there. The problem with this is the killer usually won't find any survivors until the first gen is completed, the killer has essentially done nothing and are basically playing with a 4 gen start. This problem is most noticable on killers with no stealth, mobility, set-up, and detection, e.g. Clown, Cannibal, Legion, and Pyramid Head, and especially on maps with generators that are difficult to patrol, e.g. Ormond and Haddonfield. Asides from running Discordance, there is 0 counterplay to this strategy on the killers I mentioned. At the start of the game, the killer cannot waste time thoroughly searching a generator with 0 indicators of a survivor there because there are 6 other generators survivors can be on. The most the killer can do is glimpse at the generator and leave. Once the killer leaves, 3-4 survivors start working on that generator and the killer won't find survivors at any of the other generators they check.
It's a standard survivor tactic and not just for SWF - it makes sense to wait till the killer goes by on their patrol.
There are good perks though, which can help, you just need to experiement with them. I would suggest using Plague's perk (I forget the name) to lock the furthest gens. I used this and after a quick trip to each gen to find them not working, I thought they might he hiding, waiting to start the furthest gens so went to look - found 2 survivors hiding at the first gen I went to.
-
I wasn't aware of an issue with either, unless its intermittant.
-
I started encountering this bug this morning (I'm on PS4). If you can't hook, drop the survivor on the floor and pick them up again, you should be able to hook them now.

With this update the flashlight aims at the center of your screen. So you’re going to want to aim the killers face in the center of your screen. It’s going to take practice to pull these off because timing is crucial. If you blind a little to early then you won’t get the save and if you start blinding a little too late you also won’t get the save. Theres is youtube tutorials on how to properly do it. It’s way easier than explaining here. But you basically want to start the blind just before the killer puts the survivor on their shoulder. It also depends on which flashlight you are using as they blind slight faster the higher rarity.
Thanks for the tip - I need to do that or get a 4K to move on to the next rift and am struggling with both.

a "M1 killer" is a killer that relies only on his base attack and doesn't own special abilities like oni or chainsaw bros to kill survivors in other ways. an example of "M1 killer" is the hag, the trapper or the wraith, killers having abilities that don't include a secondary attack which allows to oneshot or give variety to gameplay.
Thanks for the examples, it's helped to put it into context!

It's Ok man M1 Applies when in certain situations your power can actually hinder your ability to Injure or Down survivor's. Think legion after you use frenzy.
Thanks for that, it's a good example!

M1 refers to a pc mouse's left click. M2 = Right Click, M3 = Middle Mouse Button or Scroll Wheel.
On PC M1 is the default button for performing the Killer's Basic Attack. M2 is the default button for using the Killer's Power.
People refer to some killers as M1 Killers, since their power itself doesn't actually down survivors, but instead hinders them or affects them in some way. Examples of M1 Killers are Clown, Trapper, Legion, Doctor, Plague (without her red puke), etc.

M1 is a term PC people use and console players just use casually in conversation so everybody can follow along. In stands for Mouse 1. As in the basic attack button for keyboard and mouse warriors. For console it means ‘basic attack’
M1 Killers are killers stripped from a power and force to chase with basic abilities.
Thank you both for the explanation - it all makes a lot more sense now. Much appreciated!
-
At the risk of sounding stupid, what does 'M1 killer' mean? I keep seeing this but applied to different killers and have no idea what they are going on about.
-
Before cross play came in, this happened to me several times. I've been pinned in place, chased by the survivor who was obviously in communication with the killer, who then stood there pointing at me while the killer hooked me and had suvivors run killers onto me repeatedly. All were reported.
Now we have cross play and I get screwed over nearly every match by PS4 players and those from other platforms. It's making the game near impossible to play. I liked cross play initially but now I'm considering turning it off - problem then is there's so few killer players I end up matched with people way above my skill level when I play killer. Cross play at least fixed that issue, briefly.
Unfortunately it seems there's people on every platform ready to throw their team mates under the bus - sadly, now we can't rely on randoms, my brother and I have been less likely to put ourselves in harms way to help random players, especially when we see them being bad team mates. I don't know what the answer is.
-
I don't want to tunnel survivors and always feel a bit guilty if I down the unhooked on straight away (though I do leave them on the ground and chase the unhooker so they have a chance to be healed.
Having said that, playing fair is getting me the runaround from survivors and killers alike. I want everyone to have fun and have the chance to get lots of points but perhaps I need to play a bit more selfishly.

LOL I'm trash with a flash light, too- I got lucky the other day when I loaded into a match with an AFK Demo. I just borrowed (wasted 😭) my boyfriend's flashlight and blinded the AFK Demo 4 times in a row after having had the challenge on for dozens of games and only getting one blind LMAO
More directly on topic, I don't mind the tough challenges. I think that's the point as you go deeper into the tome- it isn't supposed to be a walk in the park and I appreciate the effort to force a survivor or killer out of their comfort zone with some of the challenges. It IS annoying to have the last challenge before reaching the end of the particular level be extremely difficult, though, I will give you that.
I don't mind a harder challenge either, but to HAVE to play in a way that some would consider toxic, just to be able to progress, is what I'm not happy about. The matches I've been playing today I would have no chance to manage it; some just outplayed me (way higher in rank to me) and some quit when I knocked them down.
I know some have been trying the flashlight today; I have several make obvious attempts to goad me into breaking a pallet so they could blind me - I hate that as a killer and don't want to do it as a survivor.
-
Closing the hatch I don't have an issue with, nor hooking survivors in end game. I do have an issue with things such as "blind/.....burn a killer 5 times" or "kill all 4 survivors by an means". No wonder there's been a lot of mori's recently.
Thing is, to move up to the next set of challenges, I have to at least one of the above - I'm rubbish with a flashlight and think it's just nasty to be constantly trying to blind killers, so I unless I get lucky with a 4K, I guess I'll have to mori my way to the next rift tome.
Or just not bother trying to get there
-
In the case of being matched with toxic survivors, I do what I can to stay out of their way and if they were really bad, I make a note of their name and lobby dodge if they come up again (whether I'm playing survivor or killer). Where it's reportable, I do so.
Toxic killers are a different matter - if you get a match with a toxic killer, you either have to let yourself get caught and die on hook (thereby screwing over your teammates), or just on with the game, accept you're likely to lose so get as many points as you can, and move on to the next game.
When I'm playing killer against toxic survivors, sometimes I will focus on the toxic ones - I had a match recently where 2 were doing everything they could to get in my face and prevent me from doing anything. One got too cocky and got downed, hooked and face camped - her partner in crime tried to save her and also got flattened, hooked and camped. I let the other two finish the gens and leave since they'd been playing fair. If it's just an odd one, single them out and punish them if you can, but ignore them if you can't so that they don't stop you defending your gens. If the whole team is toxic, deny them chases, just keep covering the gens and when the last one pops, open the door and let them leave, don't go to chase them out - if you can, find the hatch and stand on it.
Really though, if people remembered that this is just a game and stopped being toxic, then the other side wouldn't get toxic in return.

This is just how this community reacts to anything that requires a change up in play style. New killers/existing base kit changes = "The killer is unfun and I will dc in every match I load into with them." The same thing is happening with the dc wave that's come after crossplay. The console people swear it's unfair they have to play against pc so now they are dc'ing in nearly every match. Welcome to the DBD community!
I think you nailed it!

I've seen so many won games literally threw into 4k because some people just refused to do objective or leave because of their buddies got caught and was being camped. People should learn that not everyone could be saved.
When I play as killer I love it when they are too altruistic - makes my job much easier, especially when they decide to hook dive..
As survivor though, the times I've been screwed over because someone decided to run the killer round where I was hooked (which meant no one else would come in for the rescue), or insisted on healing me so alarted the killer to where I had been quietly hiding but was now trying to get away from some idiot in bright clothing who kept grabbing me. Then there's the ones who come rushing in to take me off the hook with the killer right behind them so I get flattened and the ones who, once rescued, will insist on trying to heal me to the point they will chase me all over the map (I tried it to see just how intent they were).
All survivors need to do is have a bit of common sense - if someone doesn't want you to heal them, accept it and go do gens or help someone else - they may have a good reason not to want you to heal them. If you go for a save and the killer chases you, lead them away from the hook so someone can do the rescue. If the killer's nearby looking for the unhooked player, don't give them away; you can always heal them when the killer has gone.
So many times a game that was going well for the survivors was lost because of one survivior who just HAD to be that altruistic, they screwed up everyone else's game. Comne on guys and gals, it's not rocket science!
-
I think a lot of players just haven't got used to him yet; once they figure out how to play against him the complaints will lessen.

The load out comes up on screen and the killers offering does not turn over (so probably Mori).
Game loads up and as soon as I am in, the 3 other survivors DC. (OH DEAR)
Had this happen a few times to me. One time killer felt sorry me but am guessing survivors making a stand against MORIs.
Have you guys had it where the other survivors have DC'd straight away thinking there was a MORI?
See it alot - either they DC before it loads, when they are about to be mori'd or they kill themselves on the first hook to prevent the killer getting the mori. Thing is, if the killer is going to camp the hook then tunnel the unhooked player just to down them for a mori, survivors think it's not worth playing and just give up - these are horrible matches to be in.
-
Has to be plague - I dont even care if I don't sacrifice anyone so long as I've puked on everything! Window vaults, pallents, gens, totems, the floor, the wall - you name it, I vomit on it!
-
I would like to be able to give them a good game, since the thumbs up does nothing. I had two rounds against someone on a different platform and being able to say GG in after game chat might have stopped them coming back at us with a mori and tunnelling us into the ground. After that match, it was rinse and repeat wth another killer.

I'm not really sure the point of this threads is but I'll put in my two cents. During the game, play hard. Throw everything at the Survivors/Killer you have. Bring you best Perks. Camp, tunnel, or Mori if the situation demands it. You don't have to be nice to anyone during the game. The only rules are:
- Don't hack or use lag spikes.
- Don't disconnect; if you start a game finish it.
- Before and after the game be courteous and polite. We should be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.
That's it. I agree with the sentiment that this is a no holds bar PVP grudge match. I just want to make sure that before and after the game everyone is polite at a minimum, and ideally friendly. After all, we supposedly share a love for this hobby/game.
Best comment I've seen on here in a long time!

It is frustrating when survivors decide to rush in and unhook when the killer is right there with you. Happens too oftern.
It happened to me when I played a killer round, not once but each time I hooked someone. On the way to the third hook, I could hear them running and clicking the flashlight. Ended up with an easy 4K because they insisted on trying to pile in and ended up getting slugged or put on the hook they'd just saved from. They never seemed to understand that this tactic was killing them.
Today a Nea decided to run up behind the killer as they were hooking me. Nea got a whack, unhooked me, I got tunnelled and then camped as the killer knew the two randoms were trying to rush in. Since I was playing with my brother, I could at least tell him not to try for a unhook. Sadly the two randoms got him killed doing the same thing. This has been typical of late.
I have to wonder if it's to do with the rift challenge as survivors need 15 unhooks or protection hits - since they don't have to be safe hooks, I think some survivors are just focussing on the challenge and forgetting that we've more chance of survival if we play as a team.
-
I had three survivors Dc on me this morning - First went just after I hit them - I didn't even chase them. The second went in sympathy I guess. Sadly didn't realise until I hooked someone else, who promptly DCd when I found the last survivor. Poor Wraith, I guess no one likes him.
The ban needs to be there - having to wait a few minutes because you DC because of a power or internet outage is nothing and if a match is that bad, or you're stuck in a game breaking glitch, a few minutes wait is nothing.

Ohh let me use deja vu. Dark sense. And stand still so the killer can hook me. Don't do gens 'casue it's toxic. Don't blind the killer with flashlight. Don't heal myself.
Why are items are in the game if u cant' use them?
Why can't you play swf without being called toxic? You know there are people who bought the game to play with friends. The other day i got facecamped by an instadown hatchet huntress with a mori but I'm not complaining about it cause, moris are really good offerings and insta down hatchet is a really godd add-on. killer mains can u stop complaining about meta perks? Thank you for your attention.
You can use whatever perk or item you want to use, no matter what anyone says. Killers don't like certain ones, such as the torches, or keys, decisive strike or dead hard. Survivors hate NOED, being moried or having nurses calling. It's about learning what works for you so ignore all the comments saying 'use this, don't use that' and try them out for yourself.
At the end of the day, the killer is supposed to try and sacrifice the survivors, the survivors are expected to do what they can to survive; it's going to cause conflict due to people's perception of good and bad perks, which leads to perceived or actual toxic behaviour.

as a killer it's great, console plebs are VERY easy to kill, i will not say no to free kills, but....... as a surv, it's a nightmare, console pleb team mates are horrible, i will dodge a lobby if there isn't another PC player surv
We ain't all easy to kill and frankly I could say the same about other platform survivors - I've done better as killer since cross play then I've ever done.
I like cross play for the short wait times and better chance of getting matches with people near my own skill level but the downside is there seems to be even more potatoes and toxic players in the mix. Pros and cons I guess. On the whole though, I prefer to have the cross play available; for me there's more plus points to negative ones.
-
As killer you need to slow gen progress for the first 9 minutes so if playing killer and applying enough pressure, 15-20 minutes is a good time. For survivors, I know there are those who want to get out as fast as possible but of course they lose blood points and emblem points. If you want to rank up or build up the blood points, you need more time in matches, doing gens and totems, getting into chases, unhooking and healing, etc.
I personally like a game that lasts a decent while; everyone gets points, it's a bit of a challenge. Games that are over in minutes are boring.
-
My rules have always been to play fair - I don't camp or tunnel as killer unless we're in end game. if I catch the same survivor twice in a row early into the game I drop them and leave them to be picked up. I try to be a good team mate, whether playing solo or with friends, and will never intentionally DC no matter how bad the game is going - I will kill myself on the hook if a friend finds the hatch or if the other survivors are obviously not prepared to unhook me. I will heal others but only if safe to do so.
However, start with toxic behaviour and I'll do my hardest to see you suffer for it.
-
I'm on PS4 - had a few lag issues but no more than before cross play. I have however seen (and unfortuntely been caught in it) a bug whereby running alongside the backs of hills can get you stuck there. Even getting hit didn't push me off it - killer had to lift me up for me to be free of the glitch. Once unhooked, I could carry on as normal.
There was something else today - don't know if it was a glitch or the killer was running a hack but when my brother was hooked and in struggle, the doc blasted everyone around him and as the 2 nearby survivors screamed, my brother died on the hook - he swears he was mashing X.
-
Surely it would be the simplist option to lock characters once in the game lobby - make killers and survivors choose their perks/items add points BEFORE they ready up. Would save waiting in the lobby so long (there's always one who won't ready up) and no one has the chance to second guess what the other side brings so no last minute switching. It would also ease the pressure when you're playing in a group and your friends insist on rushing to the next round and push you to ready up while you want to spend a few bloodpoints and rejig your perks - I've been there and ended up running with the wrong perks because they pushed that much for me to ready up that I did and we got into match far quicker than I expected.
I've been on the receiving end of killers who lobby dodge or quit during the match loading because they dont like what survivors bring. I've also done this when playing killer myself when a last minute switch gave me four brighly coloured claudettes all with torches, for example. This is something that definitely needs to be addressed.
-
I've left the game a few times due to becoming frustrated with toxic players, issues with bugs, games crashing, etc. The last time was for several months and I swore I'd never go back to it.
But I did; the game is fun for the most part and I missed the social aspect of playing SWF. Now that cross play is up and running, I've found it even better as lobbies are found much quicker (seconds instead of minutes), killer rounds now match me with my own skill level most of the time so now I can actually play killer and not get the run around. The game is fun again!
-
I've had 2 great killer rounds in a row, playing as Plague, again players not on PS4. They gave me a decent challenge, got 4K the first game and 3K the second, we all got lots of opportunity to earn blood and emblem points - how is this not viable? I've had similar success with other killers too since cross play. Before then there were so few killers on PS4 that I almost always got really high rank players who rang rings around me. I'd all but stopped playing killer side - after reset I was back to 20, I'm up to 17 and thoroughly enjoying myself.
Choose the right perks - ones that suit your playstyle, not necessarily the ones that are most popular and so long as you're matched against players near your skill level, you should have a good match. My killer rounds since cross play have almost all been around my skill level and it's made it so much more fun.
-
At the end of the day we're all free to use whatever perk we want to use - you can disagree with each others choices all day long (and probably will) but if I want to run self care, I will. I know there are other perks but they often rely on others not clensing all the totems or healing others first where self care is a good backup if you've no kit left (often because I've used it healing others quickly and all chests have been looted) or are running on your own and can't/won't trust randoms to help you out.
There are several perks I can'tr see the point of but I'm not going to berate someone for using them if it suits them to do so. A bit of tolerance for other player's choices wouldn't go amiss here.
-
@DBD78 said:
Why are you people even using the crossplay? It has no point to it at all, just play with your own kind.
Cross play is great - I'm getting rounds in seconds instead of minutes and haven't noticed any increased difficulty when playing survivor, and actually am doing better playing as killer because I now get matches at my own level, instead of the other end of the ranks.

If you knew how many times I was 70-99% healed and needed 4 seconds of your time, only for you to hug your gen while I’m trying to get back to prevent the noob from getting tunneled to death...
PS: you in this context is the global you with a similar mindset
If you knew how many times I've been flattened by the killer because some random who can't to heal themselves (or won't use the med kit they're carrying) ran straight from the hook to me, with the killer on their heels, you'd understand my reluctance. Especially when these players have already shown themselves to be douchbags to the other survivors.
It's s shame we can't see how much healing is needed; in the case you described I would be more than happy to heal you an help stop the tunnelling. I do take notice of whats happening in the game and try to help accordingly.
-
Seen a few potatoes, console and in cross play. It's a pain but what can you do?
-
I really would like the end game chat - it would be so much easier to say GG through that then through the console messaging system and there's no way to send a message to the player if they aren't from PS4. I do give good/fun killers a thumbs up at the end of the game in the ranking screen but does this even do anything?
-
I found it much better since cross play - I haven't been playing much killer until now as it was just horrible with the unbalanced matches but since crossplay, almost every match has been around my skill level and gave a decent challenge. I've actually had fun with it today, for the first time in a very long time.
-
Wow, that's a first fI'm on console and have never seen that before.
-
I run self care because either you can't trust other survivors to heal you in solo mode, or they insist on healing you in the open, or chase you all over because they're desparate for the healing points. I've even had survivors use healing to pin me in place for the killer. If I can, I shake them off, get to a safe spot and heal up myself - I run Iron will so I don't whimper and give myself away.
It doesn't mean I will leave someone on a hook because I insist on healing - I will take the risk where necessary.
One of the things that annoys me in game is when a survivor who doesn't run any healing perks just expects you to stop fixing a gen and heal them, or heal them at a hook and will chase you about to demand healing even if it means giving us both away to the killer.

So far from the games l have played, console killers must just camp like mofos
console survivors seem to rush gens much harder than pc, they don’t care about saving it’s all about the gens.
I just finished a game where l hooked a survivor and they just let him die without me going near him
the only reason l can come up with is they know on console if you go on the hook you must stay there.
Not all console kilers camp but it does feel like the majority do (I'm on PS4). Not only do they camp, they tunnel - at a certian time of the day, I would say it 4 out of every 5 matches where this happens.
Sensible players, knowing the killer is camping, either go in mob handed for a rescue, or leave the person on the hook. I've played in teams where the first one hooked has said the killer is camping, so we just do the gens instead and hope for a chance to rescue - why make it easy for the killer?
Have to say, it's been way better since cross play on both sides of the fence.
-
I don't mind playing killer against SWF - I can hardly complain about it when I often play survivor in a SWF team.
-
I've played killer and survivor since cross play went live and am finding it to be great so far. Matchs are much faster and now at an appropriate challenge level - no more rank 20 killer against purple and red survivors. I haven't noticed any cheating, or any advantage to another format (I'm on PS4).
If you don't want to play cross play, just turn it off.
-
Plague is definitely viable if used properly. I've been up against some great plague players who decimated the survivors. I love playing as her too; she is so much fun.
-
I love playing as Plague; even if I don't do manage to sacrifice many/any, I always have fun playing as her. It can be quite satisfying vomiting over everything, plus it can be a great way to find survivors hiding behind rubbish piles or in cornfields.

It's been happening at least once in all of my games recently.
Any idea when it will get patched?
It's been happening for a while, mostly just a couple of feet or so but as killer, I've seen a few slide across the floor for quite a distance.
-
For me (who a short while ago got mori'd by The Plague within a few minuts of the game starting), I wish the Ebony and Ivory mori so the killer can old Mori after the player was hooked twice (they are deadhook anyway so a kill instead of a sacrifice seems fair enough. The cypress mori could be left along as that is purely situational.
However, this wouldn't stop the killer tunnelling; they 'll just do it twice instead of once, so a token system may be a good solution.
-
Yup, had the same issue, till I turned off messages to stop the bile. I'm hoping with cross play we get the chat window like PC has, so I can easily give a GG to those (including the killer) who played well, especially when the killer gave us a fun game, or a decent challenge.
-
I would have said not bannable. If a survivor is daft enough to go and heal in a dead end, you deserve it - have caught people doing just that. It's only supposed to be if you body block for a long period of time that it should be reported; you should be fine, it sounds fair to me.
-
I turned my messages to friends only; got sick of the badly written bile that came my way. before that, I reponded politely if someone was whining and reported anyone who was using foul language, making threats or being very insulting - such as telling me I was a cancer on society - in spanish! If I report, I block.
