It is most definitely a PC thing. I would love to see a console survivor capable of pulling this maneuver off.
That's called lag bud

Survivors hurt my soloQ games more than the killer. Looping around my hook, unhooking in the killer's face to trade for no reason, trying to shake the killer off on me while I'm doing generators and a million other methods of sabotaging the game for the team.
-
You should think of this game like a fighting game, frames matter a lot. It can and will be the difference between getting hit at the window and getting away.

"Punish this player for pressing W and S repeatedly"

Yes they're complete garbo lol

Me and my friends call that "title matching" because the killer's playing like they're about to win a championship belt lol. A lot of people do it for no reason on casual games. When I'm playing killer I don't bother unless the last guy was an annoying flashlight goblin.
-
Sounds like the type of player to think the killer is "tunneling" any time someone happens to get hooked twice

The number of times I've died because the killer was on my tail and I couldn't divert long enough to open the 99ed gate far outnumber the times I've been saved by a 99ed gate.
IMO 99ing isn't worth doing and it's a habit from old DBD where blood warden was considered a perk worth running. -
Saying this right after the best killer perks got nerfed across the board
-
Play a game with blindness perks and watch the Window Lickers flail helplessly
-
And that's why he's the only killer that gets use out of the perk, if this is a proposition for a nerf that would just make it worthless to everyone.
-
The loss of slowdown would be crippling to all M1 killers, while the loss of exhaustion would be an inconvenience to survivors.
-
last week's update broke the game and the devs are taking a million years to fix it

Killers adapt
Sure and killers "adapted" by using perks that literally give value for nothing (Lethal / Corrupt), require some hard tasks like kicking the gen (Nowhere to Hide) or opening the locker (Ultimate Weapon), or justify that is completely balanced that one hook can get -25% to gen (PainRes), then block all gens (Grim), then inflict another -5% with another -30% of what's left (Pop).
Truly amazing performance that require immense skill.
I didn't know the killer could equip 7 perks

No, killers also DC or stand in the corner when they don't have single hook after 3 gens are done.
stick it out and actually try to win anyway.
Yeah, sure, especially while vs this build on high mobility killer:
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/V8QGM2KPTGR4/image.png
The Survivor meta is literally a perfect counter to all the things you said you don't like versing.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/YSBJFAPAT4HZ/image.png
And how above perks let me counter situation in which one of the randoms got hooked, killer inflicted PR (-25%), then go to mine gen to inflict another POP (-5%, then -30% of what's left). Am I missing something? Should I counter this playstyle by Sprint Bursting or Lithe???
Glue yourself to gens. Chances are you will win or at least give your teammates a win.
Why should I if there is no point and all progress that I do on my objective could be entirely nullified?
Like, killers got:
- Longer gen times (+10 seconds)
- Weaker and smaller maps
- Weaker tiles, new map don't have any strong loops
- Healing nerfs, medkit nerfs
- Basekit STBFL stacks
- Reduced speed boost after hitting survivor
- Basekit -5% on kicking gen
- Removed gen tapping
Yet I still see non-stop aura revealing perks awarding killers for doing such hard tasks as opening the locker/kicking the gen
or absurd gen regression perks on killers that really don't need all of this.Game should move on, gen regression perks should slow down the progress of gen, not stall the game and nullify all efforts entirely.
This man will upload the same nightlight screenshots to every thread as though they're gospel
-
They're forcing themselves to be a bodyblock bot, they can't complete generators doing that.
It's weird seeing the DS-UB loadout be complained about as fiercely as I complained about it back in 2019/2020. When I did it, they could do generators in your face and it was actually a huge problem. I don't care that DS is 5 seconds, they can't do gens if they want to be dicks with it. -
Because even if someone is going in lockers it doesn't hurt him very much. He already gets good info from the people that didn't get in a locker, and if he's using restraint he can basically know where everyone is all the time.
-
Spies is already perfect. It's one of the only info perks that can activate at any time because it's not tied to the killer doing something.

At this point a lot of killer players see tunneling as the only way to play the game. And I don't say that lightly, there are people who genuinely do not have any idea how spreading pressure works.
Tunneling is the 'one trick pony' of DbD. There are only two outcomes to tunneling here too: either
- Tunneling works, and winning the 1v1 easily wins you the 4v1 and you get to win the game.
- Tunneling doesn't work, and you get outplayed in the 1v1 (including if the opponent is vastly better than you). This is usually followed by screaming at the devs here on the forums to nerf/change something you blame for the loss.
The latter case, there is usually zero introspection. These players aren't looking to improve their gameplay or get better at the game. A disturbing number of them think they're 'in the top 5%' or 'max MMR' but have demonstrated that they lack game sense or knowledge. The best skill they can present is posting incessantly until the devs eventually cave and nerf the flavor of the month perk, then immediately move to the next one after that change goes live.
So no, I strongly disagree with the idea that people are learning anything from incessant tunneling.
Arinad (The guy that wrote the 200-page guide on playing Clown) has a section acknowledging that it's often necessary to tunnel due to the limitations of low-tiers
-
If he sets up a yellow-purple combo you just gotta run to the next tile. He's gonna get you if you stay.
The area you were at in the video was a crappy angle to vault from. 90 degrees is always gonna be a medium vault. -
There will always be more survivors Qing up than killers, you can't play killer with friends.

like? You can't just say 4 slowdowns. What perks or are you just saying use the meta
I'm just yankin you lol.
I don't think Artist needs bamboozle because her crows are good anti-loop. Let me construct a good build in my head, but know that I'm a Clown main so I don't actually play her, this is just what I think she could work with.
First I think Discordance would be good because you could knock multiple survivors with crows at once.
Then I'm All Ears would help you Crow people at short-range in loops
Lastly her own two slowdowns (Pain Res + Grim) are plenty to keep you competitive -
4 slowdowns

Why is this the hill that solo survivor dies on?
How many matches in a day were you relying on Adrenaline healing you off the hook? -
BGP makes every survivor feel like a pogchamp and it's extremely demoralizing to fight this stupid perk every game

Still a completely uncalled for nerf. The perk wont see nearly as much play. Bad or not bad, this is a stupid nerf.
Yeah I didn't get the argument about it healing off hook being OP, because basekit BT already exists. you would have had to hit them twice anyway
-
It's really not a big deal at all. Still a good perk and people are still going to run it, because the chance that you will be the guy on the hook when all gens pop is less than 1/4 accounting for the likelihood that no one will be on the hook.
-
I started in 2019. My first survivor match was Meg on Swamp with yellow Sprint Burst against a default spirit. Survived the trial I think with a 2-man out.
My first killer match was doc with yellow Overcharge and I think 3 escaped. -
As survivor: Not getting sandbagged by teammates (most people desperately need to run Bond but never will)
As killer: As long as I got some swanky downs with my purple/yellow bottle combos, I'm pretty satisfied.

First of all, you are mentioning that there is not counter-play, and then directly giving examples of counter-play. You are also talking about "What Ifs" a lot here. What if a survivor brings this perk, and what if a survivor brings that perk. When you start talking about what if, then anything and everything is possible.
Where are all these competitive SWFs with every "OP" perk that other people are playing every game? I have 3k+ hours, and it is swinging 60/40 towards killer lately. I'm not having these problems you speak of. Sure, every now and again I run into BU+FTP, or BGP+FB, but it is rare. Also, if people are going down on pallets, you can bait the save, or you can vacuum them out of it, or you can body block the side they are going to come from, or you can pick up straight away before they get in position. There is four counters to pick from alone.
Honestly though, altruism perks are great, they give me interaction with survivors, and usually work against them. It also provides more of a challenge because I know I am going up against a SWF instead of just stomping 4 solo players. I have always said that there is nothing more boring than going up against four people who hide all game, slam gens, and escape. I'd rather have people swarming the hook, or going for pallet/flashlight saves.
For reference, my main build is Ultimate Weapon, Game Afoot, Nemesis, Rancor on Bubba. I also play Wesker with Rapid, Corrupt, Pain Res, Bamboozle. Both of these styles I focus on chasing, but I might swap out Rapid and Corrupt for Pop + NTH if I feel MMR is getting to me. I find these builds to be great fun, and I really don't struggle getting 2 or more kills, in fact nearly all games are 3k+.
I just don't understand why people aren't willing to solve their own problems instead of complaining to Behaviour to make the game easier for them. Did I think UW was too powerful? Yeah. Did I play Calm Spirit to counter it? You bet I did. Did I cry about it because it took a slot? No, because it directly counters a killer's slot. The same goes for Distortion, I ran that as a baby survivor before it regenned tokens and I loved it. I don't run it now because I play in a SWF and the less experienced looper runs it. I still think it is a great perk as it counters killer's perks and allows you to choose when you take chase.
Overall, I guess I am just playing to have fun with chases. I've played where my only goal was to win, and I left each game stressed, miserable, or angry. That's not what I want when I am playing a video game, but each to their own. 🤠👍️
You actually missed his point. could bring Lightborn, Infectious Fright and Fire Up at the same time and you STILL wouldn't be countering Background Player because it still enables 5-mile-away pallet saves and sabotages. The perk is a catch-all for preventing hooks. Every thing you bring to counter blinds will only counter one half of the perk, and the 200% speed bonus means you're actually incapable of fending off a pallet save because they can zoom in from 32 meters away for it. You don't even need to run a breakout build, this one perk can be shoved into any build to create unhookable scenarios.

BHVR will prioritize fixing and improving content that people enjoy and will continue coming back to the game for.
So I'd say my feelings on the matter are fairly relevant to the discussion. That's actually not true at all, they were just working on the Twins

Chaos like BGP is something the game sorely lacks nowadays.
I believe the more technical term would be swing perks.
Oh! Actually, furthering that thought. Maybe make BGP no longer and Exhaustion perk, stop it from stacking Haste and make it usable only until you get a save. Now you get one real use, but the perk isn't dead.
Background Player is a bully squad wet dream, it's not a chaotic perk like what Nicholas Cage brings to the table. The main demographic it appeals to are people trying to ######### with you. If we want chaotic and silly gameplay back, there should be no invisible walls and they should stop patching out techs.

I'm shocked Resilience isn't being complained about considering the same rhetoric people used for MFT regarding 'being rewarded for making a mistake' can apply to it.
I am not surprised however, that survivors are told to get good and just never lose chase when asking for counters to four slowdowns with tunneling and camping. But telling killers to just equip lightborn and three slowdown is something that's controversial.
I thought Resilience + Spine Chill was based back in the day when they could be combo'd
15% bonus vault speed is like 3 frames and everyone lost their minds -

I think Background Player is an issue on its own. Grim Embrace is an issue because it's another slow down that can stack with PR/Pop. It's synergy with DMS isn't the issue with it, it's how well it pairs with every slow down.
Buckle Up is only an issue with FTP, but it is the problematic part of that combo which is why I listed it.
Synergies are fine, but it's the same issue as I mentioned - in order for them to compete they need to be borderline overpowered. Whether they need to be strong on their own or together is irrelevant. You can have balanced synergies such as Enduring + Spirit Fury, but these ones were buffed too much in my opinion and why I think just buffing things isn't the best way to go.
Grim Embrace is meant to synergize with Pain Res, they come from the same killer.

We've been constantly dropping players, they'd definitely quit if every Killer jumped to 75% Kill Rate because of 1/1000000 comp teams
steam playercount's been pretty stable for years
Edit-Sorry I guess this thread got necro'd. didn't realize how long ago you said this -
Honestly after many trials, I think the best counter to background player is just to tunnel the guy using background player
It's so egregious and versatile between flashlights, flashbangs, sabos and pallet saves that you should just try to take that guy out ASAP and hope he's the only one -
@vBlossom_ said:
He could have equipped:
- Lightborn to entire disable this meta if this is the issue
- Some addond that inflicts exhaustion or show survivor auras - Freddy unfortunately don't have one, but there are killers that have those addons.
- Some perk that reveals survivors - Infectious Fright would be good in this case.
- Fire up to mess up with timings on picking up survivors
- Exhaustion - inflicting perks, for example:
- Blood Echo
- Genetic Limits
- Mindbreaker - this one even gives Blindness and it's kinda used
- Septic Touch
Yet he decided he didn't want to and did video in which he demanded nerfs.
If I don't like my aura revealed, I'd bring Distortion - counter killer perks.
Killers could also do the same if Flashlights/Flashbangs/Exhaustion Perks are the issue, to this day killers have 118 perks and there are really some other perks than Pop/PR/Lethal/NTH :)Infectious will not scare off a background player, if you try to harass them, the downed survivor will just crawl under a pallet and then you're really f-ed
Blood Echo activates on hook and will often be expired by the time you get the next down, I run it on LegionMindbreaker would not help you if the background player is following the chase
Septic Touch is actually useless and IDK why you even mentioned it
Genetic limits would rarely activate because it would require the background player to have recently healed someone -
Every time I play Bubba without chili I regret it. There's a lot of tiles you can't mindgame without chili and end up being a pallet shredding zombie.
-
Bringing them back would be an extremely cheap and lame way to buff him
-
There are a million things you would think synergize with Oppression but actually don't. It stacks with nothing and the cooldown is really long.
-
Can't relate, I have to run Discordance for my zombies to do something productive

It's not a non-issue, bud. Just because YOU don't care doesn't mean no one else does. The fact that this keeps coming back up consistently proves it's not a non-issue.
Also, if you think a killer leaving a downed survivor on the ground to teleport back to hook in order to tunnel the first hook out is somehow not hard tunnelling but just 'a good killer playing smart' as if these are mutually exclusive things, you don't recognise what tunnelling is at all.
It's clear I'm not going to get anywhere with you because there is no discourse beyond "survivor hook twice = bad"
-
It needs a ground-up redesign, it would still be a win-more perk
