  • I agree immensely. I posted this same thread in the 'Suggestions' section. Maybe if you post as well it might help again some attention

I think it's no secret that the meta for Dead by Daylight has been... rather unchanging. With the same handful of perks for both Killer (BBQ, Ruin, NOED, Nurse's Calling, Enduring, with Spirit Fury and Sloppy Butcher being newer additions to this meta) and Survivor (Self Care and variants, Exhaustion perks, Borrowed Time, Adrenaline, Decisive Strike) being mainstays in the meta since they were added. While I could complain about all these perks and how "Adrenaline hasn't been changed in 2 years and it's received nothing but buffs nyehh!" I want to bring up another point.

With Yui coming out I'm personally really excited to run what I humbly call the "mom" build, consisting of Windows of Opportunity and By Any Means Necessary. The idea of this build is simple: know where the dropped pallets are to pick up after your kids.

With that being said Window's range is... kinda godawful. I could ask for a buff to Windows but since I'm not going to wait forever for that to happen I figure I may as well run Open Handed to increase the range of Windows for my funny build. But then I thought "if I'm running Open Handed I may as well run Bond too, right?"

And then I realized: "If I run Windows of Opportunity, Bond, Open Handed, and By Any Means Necessary that's 4 perks, and I don't have any of the crutch meta perks that are essentially mandatory to play Survivor." No Lithe (which is kinda the main reason to run Windows?) or similar Exhaustion perk, no Spine Chill to keep stealthy with a stealth build, no self-healing perk of any kind (granted "Self Care wastes time" meta is stronk nowadays, but I also wouldn't have any perks to help with being injured like Iron Will), no Decisive Strike to stop tunneling (heavy quotation marks), no Borrowed Time to stop camping, no Adrenawin...

This is an issue that almost every new perk faces, which is why so many new perks fall by the wayside into C tier or lower when compared to other options. There are a lot of really cool options out there that never see use because the meta is just way too strong. Stake Out, Leader, Lightweight, Breakdown, Quick and Quiet, Wake Up, Spies from the Shadows, Stridor, I'm All Ears, Fire Up, Iron Maiden, and a lot of Hex perks - all of these perks fall by the wayside because "Oh I'm making a Survivor build better equip Balanced Landing, Iron Will, Spine Chill, annnnd that's 3 perks" or "Oh I'm making a Killer build better equip BBQ & Chili, Ruin, Whispers, annnd that's 3 perks." Even just going back to Survivor you've got Lithe, Quick and Quiet, Dance with Me, and Windows of Opportunity all based on finding windows to vault to gain a benefit. But the problem is that this build is 4 perks dedicated entirely to one purpose, and you (again) lack any stealth perks, Exhaustion perks, anti-injured perks...

Instead of launching into the usual rant of "the meta is too boring! this perk needs a nerf! this perk should be baseline! devs don't want to make good perks! arble garble garble" I need to ask... do we need more perk slots? I don't think we should just have 5 or 6 perk slots no. The last thing I want is to go up against some chucklefuck Freddy running Jump Rope, Swing Chains, Ruin, Thanataphobia, Dying Light, Huntress' Lullaby, Pop Goes the Weasel, and BBQ.

But should we have dedicated perk slots for specific types of perks? Just as an example for Survivor: a slot for Exhaustion perks and a slot for anti-injured perks? Now what constitutes an "anti-injured perk" is loose to say the least but I think Exhaustion perks are easily quantifiable.

Inversely for Killer: how would a perk slot for game stall perks and a perk slot for tracking perks go? It would certainly alleviate some builds if you could stick BBQ and Ruin on without being starved for other perks. Or if you're so inclined: Thrilling Tremors and Corrupt Intervention? Whispers and Pop Goes the Weasel? Bloodhound and Huntress' Lulla-on second thought don't run those perks.

I realize this is a big proposition but it's really disheartening that every time a new perk is released there's a week or two of excited theorizing and build testing before everyone realizes "Oh I need crutch bullshit to survive / kill" and immediately goes back to slave to the meta. I don't think people who meme in SWF / at Rank 10 are your main market Behaviour, and while they may enjoy the addition of 6 more meme perks to add to the pile the vast majority of the playerbase is falling asleep as they get into another match with a Killer running Ruin, BBQ, Whispers, and Pop Goes against 4 Survivors running Iron Will, Dead Hard, Decisive Strike, and Adrenaline.

Honestly I just wanted to say that this was really well written and I agree with you.

I play both sides, I'm just most comfortable behind the wheel of killer. I hit Rank 1 Survivor more frequently, though, despite going almost pure altruism in my builds :P

I'm certainly more skilled than killers who have to rely on NOED, camps, and tunnels. I'd wager a lot of survivor mains could outplay, as killer, a lot of killer mains that allow themselves to plateau in terms of ability, and I'd wager people who swap sides more frequently would consistently do well as either if they strive to improve their play rather than relying on 'safe' but ultimately detrimental tactics.

I agree that there are some things that killer mains do rely on in order to hit certain ranks and kill quotas and I like to stay away from that style of play. That being said, there is nothing wrong with using one of my 9 ebony mori's that I've accrues because that's just how my bloodweb played out. I'm not 'relying' on the mori or using it to have a lazy game, I'm using it because I've got it.

Personally though I don't think you can truly understand this game unless you play both sides at least a few times. I always urge my friends who are new to dbd to at least play a game or two as killer. Yeah, you're gonna get stomped most likely but it gives you a better understanding of how the killer operates so you can play a better survivor and vice versa.

  • @ElusivePukka said:

    "Wah, I need a Mori"

Killer main here - moris are for cowards and insecure people. Same for tunnels, camps, and NOED. Even if you actually have skill, these are evidence that you don't think it's enough to secure kills, and frankly each promotes lazy play and the stagnation of overall skill.

Ah yes, we all bow down to you and your infallible opinions, oh great killer main! For you are much more knowledgeable and skilled than us who play both sides!

  • @HamdaN said:

if OP unironically thinks moris are healthy for the game and people not liking them makes them a "special kind of baby" then i think hes a certain kind of special. imagine having to cheese 2/3rds of a survivors life with no counterplay ON AN OFFERING and thinking its skillful no OP youre special

If you unironically think that crying about a game mechanic is healthy for community then you're a certain kind of special. Mori's bring in tension, causes you to play more carefully. Everyone loves to run DS and BT and just suicide hook trades and all this other crap. I literally do not care if the killer brings a mori or doesn't. If he does, so be it. Just move on to the next game. Like you're taking games WAY too hard if you can't handle a single game that's gonna be a little more risky then usual. That's how multiplayer games are supposed to be: unique and variable. And implying that people who use Mori's think that those are skillful games is awfully ignorant. Imagine using Balanced Landing and thinking you're skilled.

  • @KillermainBTWm8 said:

OP I have one question...did this guy message you first or did you message him first?

He messaged me first to brag about making me waste a mori (even though I kept it)

  • I am so glad Balanced got nerfed.

And to clarify before assumptions, I equally play Survivor and Killer. But Balanced could break the game and that was B.S.

  • @supersonic853 said:

Thats the thing people will now be afraid of legion because if they keep nemesis as is you never want to stun him with the pallet. Every killer should strike fear and sadly legion doesnt because of how his power works. So itll be guess work whether a legion is running it or not.

    @Nobsyde said:

It would make Legion simply unbeatable.

    • hook someone (best if it's obsession)
    • proxy camp
    • deep wound the unhooker
    • ???
    • profit

I prefer this to not become a thing but have the possibility to run Nemesis by itself (and have survivor waste pallets here and there in exchange to not proc it) instead of a Nemesis nerf.

I wasn't saying change the perk to allow this combo, I was suggesting that they should change the wording just because it is confusing. That being said, if this does get looked at and taken into consideration, I also believe Surge's wording should be changed (remove the word additional) to help players understand how these perks work and how they can synergize with other perks.

  • I don't tend to watch people play games on YT or Twitch but I enjoy 1nt3ract for his educational videos and Fungoose as well. They're both very descriptive and educational and have both helped better understand killer powers and perks as well as ways to better my gameplay.

  • @StrikerDaisy said:

GF should not be able to enter stealth while in a chase, and should not be able to enter stealth 10 seconds after either (to counter people who would drop, enter stealth then chase again)

I literally cannot even fathom the issue you could have with this. He is a typical M1 killer who can be looped. God forbid he makes 'no red stain' mind games easier to help him move up in the tier list a little bit.

Like I'm not trying to be a jerk but like seriously, it's not that bad

  • @HatCreature said:

It has been said that if a player disconnects while the game is loading then the match is canceled and you keep your stuff. This is indeed pathetic and he is also de-ranking on purpose to play against lower rank Survivors which is a side effect of his true intention. It is sad to see these kinds of things.

Nah he waited til the game loaded in and then DC'd. And this caused me to not only lose my item but also my offering

  • Another reason you should he happy is the fact that this event will overlap less with other game's time-limited Halloween events, so you have more time to play those and not worry about missing out on DBD.

  • I'm sure this has been answered already but I don't feel like reading all the comments. Essentially, the game was originally designed to not have SWF, because the Devs loved that it added an uncertainty in terms of the skills of your teammates and your ability to properly work together without communicating. It was supposed to add an extra element of surprise and horror to each match. But right before release they decided to add a SWF option due to the alarmingly large requests from players (if I remember correctly)

well I am Caucasian but they love to spit racial slurs no matter if they know that or not.

Oh also, report them for chat abuse. I'm sure they'll get a warning and later a ban from the Devs.

  • Honestly, try to view it as funny. You made this person so mad that they felt the need to lash out. I get a good laugh when people message me and insult me because, it's a damn game. I know it isn't as easy as it sounds but like they say gg ez on a 1 person hatch escape, all you gotta think (or better yet, say) is "Ah, is that why 3 of your teammates died?". It's fun to see the B.S. excuses they come up with. "UH WELL You camped." "UH WELL You tunneled." "Yeah well I don't even have my normal build so." All it is is some random guy on the internet who is upset because he didn't have a perfect game. Try to think of it that way and hopefully you can start laughing at it.

  • Licensing Issue.

  • SHHHHHH DON'T LET THEM KNOW

They already nerfed his black coat.

  • Green-haired Neas tend to be the most toxic in my experience on PS4. Hate them.

I play at red ranks. GF is a monster you’re likely just playing him the wrong way to make him viable. If you’re stalking people, you’re doing it wrong.

What is your perk setup and how do you go about playing him? I'm always kn the search for more tips for any killer because I can always improve. My biggest problem is Spine Chill and getting looped into oblivion.

  • @Daniel101773 said:

I play GhostFace or Huntress. They’re my no stress, sit back and relax killers.

I think that's entirely dependent on rank. I love Ghostface with a passion but I just have so much trouble making him viable at purple and red ranks. I'm dipping into Freddy quite a bit now at higher ranks and he has made games a little less sweaty for me.

  • @AkiTheKitten said:

I got reported for aimbot as Huntress, on PS4 :/

Not saying the aimbot report was at all justified, but all I'm saying is sometimes (On PS4) those hatchets hit when they definitely SHOULD NOT lol

Not only is tunneling made up, but asking for a perk that is already used and abused beyond belief to be buffed because now you don't like another completely legit aspect of the game is ludacris

Ya, if this situation bothers you enough, then it may be worth it to equip its counter. Being able to pin point certian areas of your round which you wish had gone differently, and actively bring a way to make these changes, is just one of the many perks in this game.

Truer words have never been spoken. It's hilarious to me when survivors cry out "Wow you tunneler" or "You had to tunnel to get kill"

Ah yes, because the logical thing to do would be to extend the chase and go after the fully healed guy. Of course, deciding who to hit off of an unhook is based in the situation, but the fact that anyone who dies early on screams that they got tunneled is pathetic. It is made up. It's called playing smart. I had a guy who was literally awful at stealth so I just kept running into him and he accused me of tunneling. It's not my fault you're so easy to track.

  • Imagine thinking Unbreakable is situational but DS isn't? And if you wanna cry about it so much then maybe don't run DS and run Unbreakable instead. He will most likely assume everyone has DS and therefore slug you. Now, not only do you have a perk that counters what he's doing, but can be used to fake out killers. And if you're that worried about getting downed after getting up, run Dead Hard.

You can't sit here and complain about one of the most powerful perks in the game being countered by a style of play. That's literally called balance.

If you wanna run with your train of thought though, we should just make one of the strongest kille perks have the same idea. So new NoED. If all the totems are destroyed before the gates are powered, the killer still gets a speed bonus as well as anyone who comes into direct contact with the killer (body blocking) earns themselves an Exposed status for 30 seconds that pauses while in chase. That's fair, right?

Lol your argument is garbage. "Bring unbreakable". So i can get up and then you instantly down me because your standing over me waiting for my DS timer to run down? Unbreakable is extremely situational. You want me to use an entire perk slot for that?

Imagine thinking Unbreakable is situational but DS isn't? And if you wanna cry about it so much then maybe don't run DS and run Unbreakable instead. Then I guess you have nothing to worry about Mr. 18 post alt account. I'm sure everyone will laugh right along with you and not see things as I've outlined. You have it covered. You're all set.

Sorry, Mr. 13 post alt account when you started the thread.

Don't you have an e-girl to orbit right about now?

  • @NuclearBurrito said:

Killers are 110% when their power is enough to reliably and single-handedly win chases.

Nurse, Spirit, Huntress and Hag meet this requirement.

    Hillbilly does not.

Also Legion, Freddy, Wraith and Demogorgon exist as additional examples of Killers with mobility powers that don't have sufficient reliability to qualify for 110%.

Okay but look at Clown. He has probably one of the best chase ending potentials in the game, he just severely lacks in map pressure. I'm not advocating for a Clown nerf or buff, I'm just providing an counter example

  • @Tucking_Friggered said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/763015#Comment_763015

Sure, it's your question. A completely transparent question following the pattern of behavior I outlined.

Spam the forums with requests to nerf for this killer for a few days, then switch up to that killer, then move on to the next killer and repeat the cycle until a theatre of consensus is created when in reality it's the same few survivors posting on alt accounts.

Pretending to be in disagreement with Nurse nerfs after they are all but assured to seem disconnected from it is equally transparent. If one thinks Hillbilly needs a nerf then one most assuredly felt Nurse needed a nerf. She has/had the same capabilities Hillbilly did but better in application.

You're welcome to believe what you want and use all the new big words you learned from Google. 'Same survivors posting on alt accounts". You have a absolutely no idea what you're talking about and it's comical.

Calling out an agenda isn't being rude, it's calling out an agenda.

It's not an "agenda", it was a question. I don't think Spirit needs a nerf, I don't think Nurse needs a nerf (although I welcome her changes and the new playstyles it will bring), or anyone else. I just noticed something and decided to bring my question to the community. Don't lump me in with everyone else who wants to complain about every killer. I actively play both sides and before reset, I was equal rank on both.

You're literally just being pretentious with the way you're speaking and you obviously know it.

I dont play billy so my opinion is mostly speculation but i am a killer only player. The handful of times ive touched billy (he still sits at lv 1 amongs my killers so 1 perk lot no addons or offerings) I say those games have ended in 4k just on the fact that that i can zoom around the maps with the chainsaw (Also ive lucked out and gotten open area maps those few games as well)

A base speed reduction would be something i wouldnt be opposed to. But as some others have stated if that were to ever happen I feel they would definitely need to compensate him with more control over his chainsaw.

Again i dont play billy and dont have the insight that other experienced billy players or other killer players in general have so dont judge for my personal opinion

    *Hides away*

No, I appreciate your contributions. You pose a good point and a good point if view.

  • @Tucking_Friggered said:

As predicted in other threads, here we go. Moving from Nurse, to Spirit, to Huntress, now to Billy. If the killer can't be looped or has the ability to project around the map to limit genrush, spam the forum with threads suggesting a change is needed. Too predictable.

Is there a reason you're being so hostile? All I did was suggest a simple change and asked people's opinion. There is no need to be so rude

  • That would be amazing. Definitely something they could add to upcoming Rifts.

    Tenacity, Unbreakable, Decisive Strike, Flip-Flop.

Yeah, I'm not staying on the ground.

I always wanted to run Unbreakable and Flip Flop. I saved up to level Ash before he came out. But in the end, it's just not practical and that's a big problem.

  • I used to main the Pig because she is such a fun killer to play. I got a lit of RBT's to snap back in my day. I then moved onto the Clown bc his chase potential was crazy but quickly realized map pressure is key. I now play Ghostface because I love his outfit and his ability is super cool. It's kinda reminiscent of the Pig with the crouch and absence of a terror radius.

I used to play Claudette because I like to play support characters, but after Adam Francis came out, I started playing him. It was initially because Deliverance but I don't even use it anymore. His coats have very dark colors and cover most of his body so it's easier to blend in. They nerfed the all black coat so I switched colors but damn, you literally can't be seen on The Game.

  • I hate Hawkins Lab. People like to say it's unfair for survivors but I've had nothing but trouble there as a killer.

  • Your vocabulary is phenomenal. I enjoyed reading this a lot.

Now I do agree with you, but you have to look at how the game is. I think it would be better to add a perk that could help you distinguish these sounds because it's better for both sides that the killer just hears a boom. You can't tell (as an actual human being) whether a person vaulted, jumped in a locker, stabbed someone while healing by accident, etc from certain distances. It's just a loud noise to you. You might be able to kinda tell but really I think it'd be unfair to add that base kit. Again, I think a perk for that would be a great idea. Or maybe they alter I'm All Ears to include that stipulation. I'm just saying it makes sense because it's not THAT easy to distinguish sounds from a far distance.

  • Yeah. Some guy said he is "getting slapped in the face with the addition of a battle pass" and it's like, it's literally just cosmetics. I have almost never cared about cosmetics, and when I do, I usually opt in to get the free stuff you can get with in-game currency. If you're complaining about the pass, you've prob already sunk money into cosmetics and if that's your priority then that's on you. It literally gives us free stuff. You don't NEED premium and you never will. It's just cosmetics. Nothing game changing. And if they put "game changing" things in it then they would lose a large majority of their players do it isn't gonna happen.

I currently don't have any access to BBQ. I'm leveling up Hag so I can gain access to Ruin for all characters. But anyways, Thanks for the tips! :)

Whispers is a great substitute. Or Thrilling Tremors because it tells you whether or not Survs are working on gens or going for the save essentially

  • I am a Ghostface main (Rank 7). I would suggest checking out videos by someone named Interact. He does something called "Entity Education" and it is extremely helpful.

My tip would be you should try to stalk ppl to 99% as much as possible. Even if they're injured and getting healed, stalk both survs. You get free stalk on healer and now when that person finishes healing, you get a free down and they just wasted all that time. Be wary, when you injure a survivor, they lose all stalk progress. Sometimes it's better to just ignore a chase if you've got a surv past 80% stalk. Or, chase them until Night Shroud comes back and finish the stalk off. Essentially, never try to erase your stalk progress unless you have to or are in a good spot to. You spend a decent amount of time stalking and it's pointless to erase it.

I like to run a typical M1 build on Ghostface because that's really what he is when not in Night Shroud. I run BBQ, Brutal, Ruin, and Spirit Fury. I am a fan of I'm All Ears because it makes mind games easier.

  • I love Ghostface and play him at my current rank (Rank 7). People who say the big 3 are only viable at red ranks are wrong. You can play any killer you'd like if you get good enough and find a set up that suits your playstyle. I used to main the Pig. I played her recently (2 matches) and got 4k's both times (still at rank 7). I think it's more those 3 put the best pressure and make the game easier in the killers direction. They have high mobility and good mechanics. They're also anti-loop. It's just a matter of how well you can get at certain killers.

  • @BunnyTheHutt said:

You do though. yes, you can buy the characters with in game curreny, but that doesn't mean the game doesn't incentives you too buy them. BBQ, Ruin, Spirit Fury, Pop Goes, Dying Light, and Monitor are all really strong perks for killers, and all you need too buy a character for. How realistic is it to spend months grinding out shards too get these killers, and then spend MORE time grinding them out? It isn't, the game incentives you too buy them so the grind is lower.

Plus, what if someone doesn't like playing the "Big Three?" If they are going too play a weak killer then they will def need the strongest perks possible, which means a lot of money needs to be spent just to have the best chance against them.

It does not take months to grind out shards. Even if you play a few games a day eventually you're getting 300 per lvl. On top of that, Ruin and BBQ were in the same shrine at one point. If you don't wanna spend money then it's your job to keep an eye on the weekly shrines. I brought up the big three because that's what people like to say is the most viable at red ranks. Of course you don't need to play them. And you're saying you need these perks to play at high ranks but that's not true either. There are people who run completely different builds because they play completely different playstyles. Adapt and overcome.

  • @BunnyTheHutt said:

Normally, yes. But the game alone is 20-30$ and over 100$ worth of DLC, which you need too have a chance against survivors past rank 10, and this doesn't even include the cosmetics. If DLC's actually felt like extra content and not needed content then sure, but 10$ every month for such an already expensive game is greedy.

Are you kidding? First of all, the "Big Three" are Spirit, Nurse, and Billy. Spirit can be bought with shards, which you get for playing the game. On top of that, the Shrine exists for a reason. Let's look at the meta perks: Ruin (Free), Enduring (Free), BBQ (Shrine), Spirit Fury (Shrine or buy Spirit with shards). I'm stating the typical build I see suggested on killers (maybe Whispers but that's base game).

You do not NEED the DLC to beat rank 10's or under. The shrine exists for a reason and anyways 2 of the meta perks are free, you just have to level the killers up. On top of that, 2 of the top 3 killers are free, and the 3rd isn't even licensed so she can be bought with the FREE CURRENCY in the game.

I'm not blaming you for buying the DLC or anything but don't complain that you "need" it because you know that's B.S.
