The killers that are most fun to go against are the ones with strong powers, that require some skill and practice to use well, with good counterplay options for survivors. That way you can make the interaction between survivor and killer - the fun part of the game - more interesting and dynamic, with opportunities for both sides to make good plays and outwit the other. Some killers that come to mind here are billy, blight (without the questionable addons and glitches) and huntress.
The fun part of the game is this interaction between killer and survivor. For some players, that involves stealthy play, but for most I think it's the chase that's really fun; trying to evade and outwit the killer for as long as possible. Without this, the game would just be holding m1 (or controller equivalent) and no one wants that all match.
The 'anti-loop' killers, particularly those we've seen released in recent chapters, ignore or diminsh the chase aspect by shutting it down. Pyramid Head and Nemesis will m1 you or just use their power at a loop. Trickster sprays you to an inevitable death with knives. The Artist epitomises this design approach by making loops useless: she's guaranteed to hit you with her power if you try and loop her.
The other unpopular killers, e.g. clown, doctor, legion, etc. are disliked because of the annoyance factor, and how they often require you to hold m1 more, which, as I say, is the least enjoyable aspect of the game.
-
I was trying to think about it from the opposite side; which killers do I actually enjoy going against? There's Billy, Oni, Bubba (assuming he doesn't just camp the hook)... umm... Blight's ok, if he's not doing the incredibly unimaginative ruin/undying/tinkerer thing... Huntress would be fine, except her massive hatchet hitboxes that get you around corners, like she's throwing a heat-seeking fridge at you.
There's so many with flawed designs that make them frustrating/boring to play against. Which one's worst? Probably the twins; ez mode camping with a mini demo-on-crack.

Survivor mains are starting to leave the game. This is because of the all strong killers and strong meta perks out there like Corrupt Intervention, Ruin + Undying, Tinkerer, Discordance, Bamboozle, Pop Goes The Weasel and more.
As for the killers people leave the game because of Blight, Nurse, Spirit, Huntress, Deathslinger and Hag ( basically all strong and unfair killers).
You can counter survivor meta EXTREMELY EASY. For example:
Borrowed Time; Go for the unhooker
Decisive Strike; Dont tunnel
Unbreakable; Dont Slug
Dead Hard; Bait it.
Killer meta perks on the other hand are harder to counter.
You cant counter Tinkerer, you cant counter Pop Goes The Weasel, you can counter Ruin + Undying but it takes so much time. You can counter NOED but it takes so much time, you cant counter bamboozle.
As you can see there are a lot of survivor perks that can be countered so easily. but you cant counter most of the killer perks. Survivors are running out of resources and some survivor perks are nerfed already (Decisive Strike, Borrowed time etc.) These are the reasons why survivors are starting to leave the game. And honestly, I hope they focus on the survivors instead of the killers. Because killer perks are starting to get strong and killers are becoming so unfun and boring to play against (Especially Deathslinger). So yeah i hope they do something about this.
Is it at possible that you don't in fact have extensive data and sources to back this up and rather you're just personally unhappy with certain aspects of the game and have turned to hyperbole to vent your frustrations?

Yes we all have favourites and some we dislike more. For example I hate trapper the most but every killer is fun to verse as long as its not the same one over and over. Stop using the "not fun" because you struggle or dont like the killer. They all have different counters and play styles, maybe you're too focused on a 1v1 and Escaping than actually having fun
This is going to sound crazy, but your opinion isn't absolute fact. I know, it's pretty far out there, but the thing is, different people have different feelings about what is and isn't fun. It's bonkers! But that's the wacky world we live in.

How many years ago was it they promised they'd fix the bad performance on console? Then radio silence since. But please keep buying new chapters and battle passes and costumes.
Either they don't care/prioritise fixing their game on console (I'm talking ps4/xbox one/switch), or don't know how to. I'm not sure which is worse.
Please get your act together BHVR!
-
I just went against a demo and noticed this: I could hear his portals before they were activated. I'm on PC too.
-
The ones I really think could use looking at:
Deathslinger - With his ability to quickscope, as a survivor your only real counterplay is to try and break line of sight and/or hope he misses. On some maps this is easier than others, but overall results in a feeling (against decent deathslingers) that your input as survivor doesn't really matter. You can guess when he'll shoot and try and juke, but it is just a guess and good deathslingers will just zone you while you zig zag.
Nurse - A good nurse will just win the game, because she ignores all means of defence. With tracking perks like infectious fright, nurse's calling, etc. you can't hide forever. If you're on an indoor map you might be able to delay your death a little, but that's it. The counter-argument that it takes a lot of practice to reach that level of play and most nurses aren't that good is true, but feels like a poor way to balance the game.
Pyramid Head - even with the nerf, he can still m1/power you at vaults, leaving few options as survivor. Just hold w and try and break line of sight and dodge the power. Not as oppressive as the others here, but still pretty frustrating.
Spirit - Even if it was made apparent when she was phasing, she'd still crap on you in a chase. As a survivor, you can run iron will all the time and hope she doesn't have stridor (spoiler, she does), other than that you can hold w and hope. It's again, very unfulfilling to go against.
The Twins - every other killer can camp hooks, but gives up all map pressure to do so. Twins doesn't. They can camp the hook AND chase people off gens, get downs, etc. This feels really frustrating to go against. Even if she misses with the baby pounce and you kick it, she gets it back in about 5 seconds. Then it's back chasing you at, what, 150% movement speed? While she goes back to camping.
Then there's other killers that are just annoying to go against: trapper (lol chase ends at random), hag (camp to victory), freddy (takes forever, maximum rewards for minimum effort), legion (hold m1 more), plague (solo queue meg insta-cleansing on getting infected), ghostface (roll a dice to see if you'll actually reveal him or he'll just expose you), clown (just really tedious, drop pallets early and run).
The well-designed killers, with decent powers that have a balance of skill/reward/counter-play: demo, billy, huntress (barring the dedicated server throwing trucks), blight, oni, leatherface, wraith, myers (barring some of the dumbest addons in the game). I'll even go so far as to say the doctor is alright, even though I know he annoyes a lot people.
And then there's pig, who is just sort of there.
-
I mean I get it, it can be really irritating. But on the other hand, I really can't blame people sometimes: Forever Freddy, stridor Spirit, Deathslinger, Hag, teammates all crouching around not doing anything, Midwich, Haddonfun, The Game with its new 10 billion pallets, etc. There is a lot of BS in this game that can be really unfun to go against.
In an ideal world, BHVR would look at the reasons why people get fed up and DC/suicide/quit, and try to address these so people have more fun playing the game and there's less frustration all round.
-
Why is the 'leave' button when spectating up on the top left now, when all other 'spectate'/'continue'/'ready'/etc. buttons are down on the bottom left/right? I know it's small, but it feels really awkward.
-
For what it's worth:
The new UI gives me a headache, and I mean literally. I play on PC and having to look all around the screen now, plus having to strain to see things like the hook/sickness/head trap timers, etc. leaves me feeling physically uncomfortable after a short while of playing.
This is compounded by the new animations/camera movement. I feel motion sick now after playing survivor for a bit. The lurching movement side-to-side, the unnatural upright snap of their posture and the camera lurch and flop when downed are all particularly jarring.
And more of just an opinion: the UI makes it look like a mobile game and the animations completely ruined the sense of survivors being scared in a horror setting. Having UI information all over the screen seems completely counterintuitive to what I'd imagine you want to do as a UI designer, i.e. having one area the player can glance at for important info, i.e. like the old UI! The survivors now move and stand like chad robots. I don't understand why either were changed, when the old UI and animations worked well and there's a huge laundry list of things in this game that do need changing!
-
It is frustrating. I love the game, but the lack of action on the dev's part is disheartening. Bugs that have been in the game for so long and not been fixed. Poorly balanced perks and killers that don't get updated. Sticking infinites and breakable walls in map reworks and thinking that's good. Promised optimisation that never came. But hey, buy our DLC packs and new costumes guys!
I would love to see another developer that gives more of a ######### actually come up with proper competition, but as we are, BHVR won't change.

I disagree. While I think Undying might do too much, i.e aura reading on dull totems, I do not think that combo is overpowered.
It actually encourages fun and "good" gameplay. If you are a campy, tunneling Killer who doesn't spread out pressure, you won't get ANY value from it. However, if you spread out pressure and patrol gens, you will get value.
On the other hand, instead of using the DS example many have already done, I'll use Borrowed Time. BT is designed to allow the Survivor who gets unhooked to have a chance to escape if the Killer is camping. However, that is not how it is used in 99% of cases. Survivors use it to commit unsafe rescues with no punishment and there is NOTHING the Killer can do to stop BT from activating. It promotes bad plays and it should be looked into before Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer.
Sorry, just to play devil's advocate: BT is easily counterable assuming you can count to 15. A lot of survivors in my (anecdotal) experience who try and rub it in your face will hang around trying to goad you into swinging, but you can just count down in your head and then hit them.
-
Playing as killer I always feel it's a bit churlish picking Franklin's. It's like an angry toddler slapping toys out of the other players' hands.

If people accept this minimal effort to appease players after putting out this cash grab in a Halloween costume, it will only serve to let them do it again
some BP and shards doesn’t make up for it and I’m surprised so many are eating it up
Aye, it feels like a token gesture to try and placate folk up in arms about the 'event' this year.
-
This just feels like a bandaid to try and appease folk unhappy with this year's event. It's just 'log in every day and get enough shards for a costume' now. Although the first halloween event they did with the flowers and that wasn't perfect, I really miss having that feeling that some thought and effort went into providing players with a cool experience, rather than "we're a games as service thing now, here's a battlepass and some FOMO sh*t".
-
I believe one issue with OoO is that if you're not a skilled survivor and you use it, it probably will get you killed, hence their stats that show a lot of people die with it. If you are a skilled survivor though or in a decent group, you can use it to bully the killer like no other perk can. As you mention, it's particularly effective against certain killers, e.g. trapper, huntress, rendering them something of a laughing stock. It's also very effective on certain maps, e.g. midwich, where it allows you to avoid the killer for ages.
That said, in my (anecdotal) experience, most survivors aren't that good with it, and if I happen to be playing Oni then it's great being able to charge them as soon as I have my power up. The heavily skewed nature of the perk though (e.g. it's broken-good on very good survivors and decent SWF groups, but mediocre to a liability on everyone else) makes it hard to balance.
-
Hmm, like you say: they want to make money from it. Maybe they're adjusting the xp required to complete it to try and tempt more people into paying extra to finish it before the deadline.
I really dislike battle passes because of this; the FOMO approach to getting people to play your game and pay extra feels manipulative.
-
Well, to play devil's advocate, playing against PH is #########. In a loop you either vault and get hit or don't vault and get hit. I mean, that shouldn't stop you playing who you want, but you have to understand a lot of people are gonna have a bad time playing against him.
-
I'm not sure what your point is. How does that affect their decision making?
-
This is such a ridiculous thread; he's been out for a day. But woah! People are suddenly getting better at him!

Botany knowledge combined with We'll Make It makes for incredibly fast heels! Pulling people off the hook already gets you 100% increase healing speed for 90 seconds, and having Botany knowledge on top of that makes it all incredibly fast!
The max healing speed is 100%, isn't it? I.e. you get no additional benefit from having 'botany knowledge' when 'we'll make it' is active.

Aren't we overreacting here a little bit? It's not yet out. Let's hear what the Devs have to say first and try it out for ourselves.

I stopped playing killer for awhile because I was getting matched with survivors that were far more experienced than me. Then when the new MMR came along it was a breath of fresh air, as my matches were no longer try hard, sweaty matches (but even I'll admit that sometimes I was still getting matched with people that I shouldn't have). But now that the MMR is turned off, the game is once again back to setting up matches based on ranks, which sucks because even the devs themselves admitted that ranks mean nothing.
So why am I not surprised that my rank 15 killer is going up against red and purple rank survivors? Which is even more baffling considering that cross-play is up and running. You mean to tell me that red and purple ranks were the best you could find for a rank 15 killer across PS4, switch, Xbox, and PC? 🤨
Here's hoping the MMR gets turned back on soon.🤞
Your post is self-contradictory. In the first paragraph you acknowledge the devs said ranks don't matter, then in the second paragraph you go on to complain about how you're getting matched with players at a higher rank than you.
With the MMR, a lot of experienced players were finding they were regularly matched against new players, which clearly wasn't fair. I have more hours in DBD than I want to admit and I was going up against new survivors with a few hours to their name. With it turned off I'm finding a much more even match of players.
It would be ideal if a good middle ground could be found, but in a game like DBD I don't know if that's possible. Hopefully BHVR can get to a system that suits everyone!

rank isn't a decent indicator of skill or they wouldn't be replacing it.
What about skill being a decent indicator of skill? Its been very obvious of the skill differences between players in many of my matches since the update. From seeing killers unable to deal with loops and getting bullied (and I mean bullied; I've seen survivor teammates tbagging them, flashlight blinding, crouching behind them to block them, all the wonderful behaviour you get from certain aspects of the community) for 5 gens, to survivor teammates crouching around not touching gens while a crack-shot huntress snipes them across the map. Then in post-game you see they're brown ranks with a few hours on record vs. red ranks with hundreds or thousands.
Whilst rank is by no means a surefire method of assessing skill, it's a little naive to dismiss the likelihood that brown rank players with few hours of play might struggle against red rank players with many hours of play. And while I understand it may be the new system needs time and further development to calibrate it, there's a lot of new players in the meantime having some pretty miserable games.
-
I just had a game of clearly very experienced survivors against a brown rank newbie killer. I felt awful for them and wouldn't be surprised if it puts new people off playing. The new matchmaking system is not good.
-
I would like to see existing bugs fixed and fewer new bugs introduced each update. I'm confused how so many new ones are introduced when I assume they're running QA before releasing.
It does feel like cosmetics are the priority, and I'd assume that's because people are spending money on them.
-
No. I'd wager almost every survivor can get to red ranks, if not rank 1, given enough time. You'd have to really be ######### up every game not to. From my experience there's such a huge variance in skill in the red ranks, from crack SAS squads, to derpy megs who camp and slam every pallet in the first two minutes of the game.
-
People who are toxic like this online are just sad. You should feel sorry for them :(
If they're being really awful, e.g. racist/homophobic/death threats/etc. report them, otherwise just move on. There are nice players out there!

And i see a lot of people criticising their "we stand with the LGBT community" tweet because a lot of companies do that without in game representation, well name a bigger bolder statement than a drag queen! Will there be Toxic ######### who target them? Yeah but that's on them. We should cater to the ######### to try and avoid their wrath.
I haven't seen Rocky Horror Picture show so i don't know what that persons deal is but even if they're the bad guy i don't think that should exclude them from being a survivor. Or what about putting a queen from the community in the game? (Honestly think this should be done for Paulie Esther too). I don't know i just feel like DBD could use a drag queen. Or Elvira either way
Also while we're on the subject, pretty lady bubba. Make it happen.
I'd love to see this happen!

With the coming graphics update later in the year, I would think console would get a performance boost just by default? To support it. At least i'd hope. I don't have too many issues on ps4 pro.
It won't, it'll make things worse. More demanding graphics = more stress on an already underperforming platform = worse performance.
-
I started playing on PS4, then went to PC. Trying to go back to PS4 though is terrible. The difference the low and inconsistent FPS makes, particularly when playing killer is really noticable. Survviors know they can exploit 360s on console, and will do so, to lose the killer/make them whiff their attack. This just doesn't hapen on PC, because you can track them much more easily.
I usually prefer console gaming, but I've given up trying to play DBD on PS4. BHVR said back in March 2019 they'd be targeting 60 fps on console, but have been quiet about it since. I think either they just don't know how to do it, or the development resources aren't being sufficiently allocated to fixing the poor performance (and bugs that affect all platforms).
-
Thing is, you can't force someone to play the game.
There's plenty of scenarios where a survivor is just going to want out, for whatever reason. E.g. playing against a killer they find really unfun (be honest, there's a few that suck to go against), teammates are just sitting on gens leaving them to die, bad lag making the match unplayable, etc. If you try and force them to stay, they're perhaps not going to play properly, and/or just feel miserable.
And how would you enforce action against someone dying on hook? How could you differentiate between someone who intentionally lets themselves die, vs. someone who decided to try and escape off hook, then genuinely failed to mash struggle properly? It might seem unlikely, but it could happen. I've derped on a few occasions and bodged it up myself.
I think a better solution would be to make it more likely that people will want to stay and complete a match. In an ideal world, BHVR would address the issues that turn people off, but it's BHVR, so they'll probably just add more hats and be done with it. 😏
-
I love seeing flashlights in a lobby: it likely means you'll have survivors hanging around trying to get a save, instead of doing a gen. They're easy to avoid - look at a wall, or bait the save out then go for them (stop over the downed survivor like you're going to pick them up, then turn around and look for the person waiting for the save).
-
Thanks for this!
-
They replaced a lot of tiles in Ormond with those boulder ones... which are way better for survivors! You can see over them, so the killer can't mind game them.
-
She's a killer with a high skill floor. As you say though, she does suffer quite a bit with certain maps, e.g. Hawkins.
With practice though, and assuming a not terrible map, she can end chases extremely fast, and down multiple people at range. She's definitely not on the same level as nurse/spirit/billy, but she's right behind them.
-
"QUESTIONS ABOUT OPTIMISATION
There were also many questions received about game optimisation. There is a special subcategory on the forum for reporting optimisation-related bugs (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/optimization). The more specific information, such as platform and in-game circumstances surrounding the issue, that can be provided when reporting these bugs, the easier it is for the team to identify and fix them."
Umm... what? March 2019 they confirmed they would aim for 60 fps (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/49456/optimization-status-update-road-to-60fps/p1). That's not a 'bug', BHVR, that's people asking when you're going to do what you said you'd do.
-
I can't read/listen to the lore things because of how badly they're written and voiced. It's like it was done by a couple of enthusiastic, creative writing students.
-
Thank you for this :)
-
The scariest thing in this game now isn't a beefcake psycho with a machete, or a demon ogre with a taste for blood... it's 4 Neas in bright clothing, with toolboxes, in a swf with comms. I can't believe the devs can miss this.
Ruin wasn't perfect, but it at least served a purpose of slowing the initial game down, giving the killer a chance to get started. Now, against even remotely competent survivors, you have a couple of gens popping by the time you've got someone on a hook, or even before. After that it becomes a frantic slog to try and keep ahead of the other gens before the survivors are all tbagging you at the exit gate.
It blows my mind the devs believed the reason it was used in 80% of games was because of emblems!
Trouble is, just increasing the gen time will make it dull for survivors to play. I feel like something else is needed to give the killer a chance to get started. Make survivors have to find spare parts or fuel, for example, before they can start fixing a gen.
That and fix the maps; the current map balance is horrible, with too many big maps that take ages to cross and bad pallet and window placements that make you abandon chases or else waste huge amounts of time.

I wouldn’t say that 18 got destroyed. Looks like he held his ground pretty well. I’m a rank 6 and I’ve played straight 1s and barely touched 10k BP.
I’ve also encountered a killer who said he intentionally de-ranked because of “toxic survivors” yet hook camped with insta-stalk GF. Hypocritical I know. But ranks mean f-all in this game tbh. It’s too easy to smurf and too common to get displaced on skill.
Well I don't wish to argue semantics; he managed a couple of hooks towards the end, but generally got looped all game while the gens got knocked out. And maybe he did derank, but it didn't seem like it: he was trying to play the game out and catch people. And even if he did, rank 18 players shouldn't be getting matched with rank 3s.
-
Yeah its far too dark. Any survivor in dark clothing with urban evasion can just vanish.
-
I was coming to post the same thing - the new map is way too dark. I have to turn my monitor brightness up high just to try and see anything. Survivors in dark clothing will just disappear during chases.
