Thoughts On The Banquet?

Howdy yall, its been almost a month since ive mysteriously vanished from the forums. i just wanted to know what everyone thought of the event?

Comments

  • I dont think june 25th is a month ago mate.

ive never played the event, never will.

  • I'm against the herd on this one. At first I hated it but I've come to love it, I just needed to find the right killers and the right tactics to use the survivor hyper-aggression and toys against them. I honestly wish they'd extend it. I get to skip the Jason line and win basically all my matches.

I can tolerate it as long as I don't see the baked Camembert

  • The poison has been a bigger frustration to play against than anything survivor got. I've only lost twice on killer and I would have lost to those teams with or without the event features. There is legitimately nothing you can do against a killer that is using the poison to tunnel you, you will just die.

Event exacerbates balance issues, whoever was going to win before is still likely to win in the event just harder than they would have without it.

I played 18 matches yesterday and more than 10 were portals. It was starting to feel like a cosmic joke. But i also won 16 of the matches so I just can't find anything to complain about at this point.

Wow I never even considered this. That's messed up. I've just been poisoning the dining carts.

  • I'm kinda softlocked into playing jason after survs figured the event out. At the start i played a lot of demodoggo, but i got traumatized after survivors built me an unbreakable house on midwich and held me in my kennel for three minutes before i had a fews seconds to break.

any thoughts on Vecna? He can fly over pallets, and has addons to exhaust with his orb as well as break survivors

  • I'm going to keep it real. Probably the worst anniversary this game had. The event queue is just bad with poison being very un-interactive depending on the killer, the insane buffs the survivors get for completing the tables or using the morsels on their own and the lack luster "finale" the desert portion is supposed to be when 1 gen is left.

Not to mention the cakes. BHVR knew no one liked them being reduced last year so trying to double down this year with reduced cakes is honestly quite baffling. Like sure they did buff them to 1 per blood web and "Common" rarity (still a fixed amount but you spend less on them) nearly halfway through the event, but it still left a sour taste in my and many others mouths. That and the cake amounts are still mandated which year eight and under felt nowhere near a mandated amount of cakes.

I honestly wouldn't mind going back to the year 4-5 formula where it's just a couple replaced hooks/gens that grant a bonus category of blood points when used and the occasional crown randomly spawning on the map you could claim. It's simple, doesn't really impact gameplay and no one really complained about except for needing to escape with a crown as survivor.

  • I said all Survivors do is put plates on a table and I stand by that. The buffs aren't guaranteeing a mass of 4es and we all know it. At the end of the day, it's a meh event that only encourages bad manners. Hardly fitting of the 10th anniversary, but if it isn't symbolic of what the game has become over the last decade.

  • I enjoyed playing it as survivor.

As a Pig main, it was just not fun. Traps are useless when portals are in play, because the distance means nothing and I don't need to explain, why unbreakable pallets are a problem for a mainly m1 focused killer.

The poison is as uninteractve as it gets and the survivor powers felt like bhvr endorsed cheating to me.

Ive unlocked almost everything I want in this game. I don't really care about winning, so killer felt like a waste of my time. I won my matches but none of them felt remotely fun.

Survivor was more fun, but only because of how ridiculous it gets. I also liked Silent hill f, so playing as Hinako while leveling my Cheryl up to p100 was nice.

this is pretty much my opinion on it, I'm having a great time as Mina and Unknown <3

  • I haven't played a ton of killer this month and probably won't play much killer until Judgement releases but playing survivor in this event is actually terrible. My teammates are too busy with dinner carts to do gens, poison is the worst mechanic ever conceived and when we do win it just feels cheesy and unearned. Let this be a one time lore event and come back with something different next year.

  • I've been enjoying it. Initially I thought it was hugely survivor sided. But after playing a few killer games I've realised killers just needed to adapt, since mapwide heals are a thing, injury pressure doesn't work and you just need quick downs. So one shot builds are a good shout. Stealth works very well too. And since people are running around finding plates and setting tables gen regression and totem builds work much better for slowdown. The event is eminently winnable for killers, they just need to use playstyles to suit the event.

The different foods and buffs they give all change the way the game is played in interesting ways and the poison is a very powerful counterplay for killers to get easier hits, especially to confirm a down and end chases quicker to avoid the table setting heal. The invisibility cheese and portals are definitely a bit much though.

Other than the cheese my only main issue with the event balancing is thay the tray and dining table spawns can be a little unbalanced. Having a tray spawn directly next to a table like in the club on tricksters delusion is a bit busted, likewise when the tables spawn in an edge location far away from the nearest tray spawns it makes setting tables unviable. Seen this on dead dawg a few times. And since the tables displace gen spawns it has made the maps a bit unbalanced.

But overall a good event and a nice change of pace.

  • tbh i think the best feedback i can give is for bhvr to actually playtest this stuff before shipping it, playing even like 10 matches of this internally would have immediately highlighted all the issues

  • Usualy i pick The first, as a comfortable killer to play. But 9/10 times i will always be against portals/invisibility which turns a casual round into a drawn out sweatfest. But again hitting someone with poison will slow them down to a point where they can't even dodge a shot.

As for survivor its been legion / bubba / plague. About 90% of the time. And then i had the opportunity to play against a knight, who would poison you, wait for you to slow down so the minion catches up guaranteed. And then double taps you. The events mechanics have put both sides into ultra meta competitive sweatfest mode to a point where i haven't seen a single round where people would farm the event points.

So overall its a miserable but playable experience.

I didn't try him, i only tried the other vecna. In my experience the First (second vecna) suffers from portals a lot. I'm curious about the dnd vecna tho, gonna try him.

I'm gonna be so sad when it goes away and the queues go back up to 10 mins and I get to wait that long just for everyone to sit on gens and prerun. I'll probably barely play.

  • This forum was an absolute mess when the event came out, with people being absolutely certain that the event favoured survivors to such a degree that the event was unplayable for killers. I'd say at least 50% of it was overblown.

It's a decent event, with some specific combinations that can be rough, such as rolling the unbreakable pallet meal when trying to play an M1 killer into a map with a lot of strong pallets. However, every single killer, M1 or not, got extremely strong anti-loop potential from the poison, which can hit directly or linger on a resource, all but guaranteeing a hit.

Spreading injuries/slugging doesn't work, but by focusing on getting quick downs in a single chase (made much easier by the poison), survivors are not going to get a decent value trade-off if they hold the 4th plate for a team heal, and most (not all) maps are laid out where getting a full table set to trigger the buff is a decent time investment, time spent not doing gens. The safety of a team-wide heal also seems to make survivors try to force value by body blocking, which yes, extends your chases, but also is a further example of survivors not being on gens.

It balances out, being disappointing for killers more due to lack of variety than the actual strength of survivors in the mode. Whether or not that results in a fun or frustrating event is a different debate and I'd say there's more steam there. The event absolutely can be twice as frustrating as the normal game, on both sides. I feel like the surge of public figures in the community decrying that the event super favours survivors has caused a lot of killers to uber-sweat, which makes the silly mode less fun.

Aesthetically, I like the event. The meals are suitable gruesome and the tables/dining carts ooze kitsch gothic horror. It's very cheesy and cute.

This is my first anniversary event, so I've not got much perspective on the cakes. I'll trust in the community on this one, though. It really feels like BHVR tried to limit the hell out of them and I'm not sure why.

The rewards aren't great though. Dwight looks great in a suit and the Huntress axe looks sick, but the masks are ugly and a great axe on Huntress is less great when it clashes with most of her cosmetics.

Overall, it's a 5/10 event. Not bad, but not great. The best part is the loading screen testimonials. They're very cute.

Yeah exactly, there is a lot more of a focus on altruism which results on not very much gen pressure in most matches, sure I'd love more variety on killer side like maybe contributing to the tables yourself (so you can force the heal early and get benefits for yourself and points to foil the survs plans). having a power for each menu would definitely make the event on killer side have more variety. While I love getting long ranged shots of the poison, maybe it could be for the haste menu? two different powers for the other two perhaps.

Like it's close to being a fun event for both sides, there is just glaring issues especially on killer side like Legion ruining the event for survivor (they just need a rework at this point) and the like.

If a poisoned morsel is added to the table, when the global buff is triggered, the killer gets a buff too, scaling with the proportion of poisoned meals added. Running around as temporarily invisible Bubba would be a fun reward for keeping on top of poison management, and make it so just throwing the poison in chase isn't the optimal choice in 99.9% of situations.

Yeah, legitimately people are so quick to claim something is unsalvageable, then they entrench in this view and actively avoid acknowledging any elements that are fun.

My view on Legion is shifting quite a bit. I liked them for a while but I'm slowly getting enough hours to become sick of mending.

Plague basically switches the event off as well. The team heal is gone, making sitting on gens the best use of any survivor's time once again.

Yeah there exactly, that would be a fun way of rewarding the killer for interacting with the event <3

As for legion it's not that I dislike them, I used to main them infact and they have some of my fav horror icons like Robbie the rabbit and HUNK, I just think the 4 hit and self mend rework really killed their effectiveness vs SWFs (splitting up) and encouraged the boring never sleep pills builds casual players go for and the now iri button endfury builds too, They should work on a fundemental level and be interactive, not boring and frustrating for both sides.

And yeah the event has potential IMO to be way better than the masquerade, I love the lore themes and the horror vibe of it all. I'm enitrely with you
