What do we think of the new nightlight stats?

https://nightlight.gg/killers/viewer

I know these are fan reported but before they were fairly accurate to the actual killrate and you can feel more of a pressure when playing on the killer end. I have a few videos of playing springtrap not missing a axe and perfectly hitting survivors consecutively and it still reaching endgame (this was with me splitting hooks though I coulda probably tunneled to win easier). Its crazy to see all killers dropping as much as 10% in some cases. I noticed on survivor end since I have less leaver/Go next teammates we are able to pressure the killer more and actually play the game to the fullest. Do we think go-next had a hand in forcing survivors to be more serious? Or is this a fluke or something in just statistics? Another end is a lot of the natural timesinks are gone from survivor depending on the build. Healing? We have a bunch of heal based perks that are buffed now. Hexs? Well besides devour with the fall of penti not many of the hexs force survivors to go hunting. In chase we still have the usual haste and exhaustion perks so that hasn't really changed. A lot of the regression perks have been nerfed and progression buffed (call of brine being the most recent buff to regression so its a half decent perk now) Eitherway what do we think changed?

Fair I have never frequented them and it came with my anecdotal evidence (which obviously swayed my own natural opinion) that the games do seem to be harder than before and I am not pressuring as easily as I used to. Feels like a combination of survivors not giving up at every little thing and them having less natural timesinks with stuff like the healing perk buffs. Because ultimately 12 seconds healing a teammate vs like 4 with 2 heal perks. And even as survivor it feels like the matches are more pressuring since I dont have to worry about someone going next and causing the rest of us to die.

The current stats show the timeframe from end of May to now. First time I heard that Killrates are lower on nightlight was yesterday by Otz on Twitter.

So I am not sure how things like the Go Next-prevention and the buffed Healing Perks (I have yet to see Botany Knowledge in my game btw.) have really had an influence on the Killrates, considering that there is more data about the time before FNAF-Release compared to after FNAF-Release. At least those 9-10 days at max would be not enough for me too do any conclusions.

  • I feel like Nightlight stats are a better way of capturing players with high MMR. BHVR very rarely releases stats based on MMR, so we generally don't have a view on how the top players perform overall. The thing is that people who normally link their accounts to Nightlight are players who are really inside the community and basically breathe DbD. So although people generally disregard their stats, I think that on some discussions it is valid to use it.

The last time they released stats they actually differentiated between regular MMR and high MMR. So I think going forward we will see this more often.

What you say are also only assumptions. Yes, it would make sense that only people link their account to nightlight who are more invested in the community. But this does not mean that people invested are more likely to do it. E.g. my SWF-Mate and myself we have over 10k hours and over 7k hours and we both are not doing anything with nightlight. And I would say we are very invested into the game.

And well, we dont know who uploads games on nightlight, at least we dont know their MMR. And the uploaders themselves also dont know it.

Counterpoint: BHVR has released some very basic, limited data based on MMR and kill rates in high MMR have consistently been higher than in normal MMR

I think the people who use nightlight are mostly survivor mains, and survivor-submitted games are more likely to have higher escape rates

Although humoring the thought experiment a second if you dont mind. Say in a world where this is 100% accurate (its most likely not). Like I asked in the post what would you attribute such a major difference to? Perk buffs? Maybe survivors are naturally more optimal in games (has happened before). Less timesinks so more time on gens (either hexs not forcing people to go hunting or healing not taking as long). Or survivors less likely to throw and drag their entire team down with them to give the killer a 4k? Or a combination of 2 or more.

    • I'm noticing the opposite phenomenon. Killers are becoming better and better at performing (I'm talking about players). If you're not 100% focused as a survivor, if there's even one weak element among the 4 survivors, the game is really difficult to manage. Finding a game without Pop, Bamboozle, Pain Res, Dead Man Switch... is practically impossible. Even just a map, as with killers, can automatically make a game difficult. If you have a game on Haddonfield, Rancid Abattoir or D&D map, if all 4 survivors are not 100% focused, you have a high probability of defeat.I purposely leave out when the killer tunnels hard, that makes every game "hard" for survivors. To conclude, survivors are increasingly efficient and performing, because 90% of the games can be won only if you play really well. For example, last night I had a very difficult match with a Plague that tunneled me through 5 generators. I was equipped with DS and DH, so I managed the situation quite well, but if in my place there had been a "less experienced" player or with "fun perks", the match would have been a nightmare for my teammates. My teammates on the other hand were VERY GOOD at finishing generators as quickly as possible and helping me at the end of the match. If I had teammates who cleanse totems or did the "white glyph" challenge ... I would have definitely died 100%
  • These kill rates are wrong from what I've heard, it's counting abandons as escapes.

  • Maybe Anti Go Next and Anti Rat mechanics together are making kill rates lower since now survs can't kill themselves to count towards kill rates.

  • Nightlight treats abandons as escapes so a game with 4 bots (4 kills) automatically becomes 4 escapes, I have personally tested it.

It has nothing to do with Go-Next Prevention because the drop is there on all killers since 8.6.0 when it had not yet been implemented.

    -Less early quitters.

-New crow system instinctively pushes people to stick to gens more. Even if it's been updated to be more lenient for the sake of newcomers and certain situations.

-Wave of new players also mean wave of new Killers, and new Killers tend to not fare well against good Survivors.

    -Question answered.

NightLight stats are posted by generally better players, meaning they verse stronger players. Additionally they are mainly posted by killer players as they don't have to wait the entire game to get the screenshot for NightLight.

It's fairly common knowledge as well that at a lower level the game favours killer more heavily as survivor is a lot more overwhelming, but as you get better on both sides it rapidly flips and survivor becomes a lot stronger. Nightlight stats have also been damn near spot on in the past despite this as well.

  • All that matters is the icon. If the killer abandons then yes it will detect the "Escape" icon. Otherwise if you kill them it creates the sacrifice skull. You can also manually change it if you want to on the app.

If this is the case, it would make sense why the stats changed so much. If a Killer slugs for the 4K, this would most likely result in the last 2 Survivors abandoning the game once the last one goes down, so for nightlight it would be a 2K, even if it is a 4K. And this is probably quite a common result.

IF it would be accurate, it would probably be the Go Next-Prevention. Because even if a player does not want to be in the game and even if they try to get out of it as fast as possible, it still takes longer for the Killer to do so. Instead of getting hooked and then suiciding, the Survivor would need to run back to the Killer, which would waste the time of the Killer to get the down (even if it will be quickly) and to carry them to the hook.

Even tho I dont really think it will be that impactful overall. I dont really see the Perk Buffs here, as I said, Botany Knowledge, who people called problematic, has not come up in my games so far. And in general I dont feel that the Perk Buffs were that impactful that they would explain such a change in Killrates.

  • Having visited nightlight a time or two, 4ks are typically the most common result. I now am seeing 0ks rivaling the 4ks. I assume that's a bunch of people new to the killer role trying things out. How many times have we seen here and on other forums people saying that survivor is miserable and they are switching to killer? The stats would suggest those survivors are trying out the killer role. Nothing more, and the numbers should even back out soon enough.

This problem happens even if the killer doesn't slug at all, because the 4th survivor ALWAYS has the option to abandon before the game marks them as being killed.

I've had so many games, where the last survivor abandons the game as soon as their body hits the floor, even when the game had zero slugging.

  • Will say, these stats are nowhere near accurate (yes I checked the stats). I''m guessing they're even more inaccurate than they used to be due to a smaller sample size given that personal stats are now available…so don't all start to panic that kill rates have dropped, they really haven't.

Quick question: Why do the "official" stats leave off the lowest MMR? We don't see any numbers until 500-600, so why don't we see, like… 1 MMR? What's wrong with those numbers? (Why can't we see them?)

nothing is wrong with the numbers, it's just that those are the numbers of the very new players so not super relevant as those players MMR increases relatively quickly.

I agree stats from that site would be coming only from the sweats, and they don't really balance around the top players anyway. Plus it's only in English and not likely used by consolers (the vast majority of the playerbase globally) limiting its scope big time.

For years Nightlight was all we had true, but that doesn't change the fact that it is more useful for trends than anything else. With access to the real deal stats now, we all can better judge how we've been performing and when.

Can you believe how quickly April has been flying by? Not only is the Blood Moon event in full swing, but we also have a new update – Steady Pulse – quickly approaching on the horizon. In the meantime, we wanted to take a look back at the first 3 months of the year and share a look at how things are going for Killers and Survivors.

Kicking things off are Killer pick rates! Looking at both MMR groups, The Mastermind and The Blight were both winners, leveraging their high mobility to land in the top 5. While The Nightmare didn’t quite crack the top 10 for the wider MMR bracket, his recent rework helped drive a higher pick rate among higher MMR players.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/RWQT9FI2F0QO/dbd-stats-q12025-killerkillrates.png

Speaking of The Nightmare, fresh off his rework, it sure seems like he was a dream to play, leading kill rates across both MMR brackets, while The Lich continued to leverage his vile darkness across all MMR levels. High MMR mainstays like The Twins, The Blight and The Nurse unsurprisingly made appearances as well.

Looking at the bigger picture, there was an average kill rate of 60% across all MMR, while that average kill rate increased to 63% for high MMR. This largely falls in line with our intended Killer balance.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/B3CM2R9OVDOF/dbd-stats-q12025-survivorescaperates.png

Of course, there’s more to a Trial than just Killers. Let’s take a look at how Survivors have fared!

Overall escape rates tended to be quite close across MMR brackets, with all MMR seeing a 41% escape rate and high MMR landing at 42%. Digging into specific party sizes is where the results differed.

Unsurprisingly, coordinated groups playing at high MMR performed best, resulting in the highest escape rate. Interestingly, however, solo queue players in the wider MMR bracket proved to be particularly hardy, falling above the overall escape rate.

But with that, we’ll see you again in July to share the next 3 months of Killer and Survivor stats.

    Until next time…

    The Dead by Daylight Team

I frequent them quite a bit. Something changed in their reporting between the stat release in March and whenever the stat release before that was. Nightlight's numbers used to be within a percent or two (given a few exceptions that had reasons, i.e. Nurse and Doctor), but something changed between the last two releases and they got way off. It's unfortunate, but with how far they are off they aren't reliable about things like kill rates.

Basically, its not recent, the kill rates have been trending down on Nightlight for quite awhile.

If you cherry pick the bad stats now you have a personal stat tracker that shows you’re garbage at the game (which no one wants.) and it’ll still struggle to affect the combined stats of the other 70,000 users

If you cherry pick the best games then you’ll have good stat profile but prove that the killer doesn’t need buffs.

Huntress is sitting at 47% KR and 52% KR on average the past year so tell me. Which one is it? Either way, you lose this argument.

I'm not arguing anything beyond the fact the stats are unreliable? Which you seem to agree with?

I don’t believe Mandy because she has been flat out wrong on a lot of stuff. Huntress used to move at 110% until she could release a hatchet. There was a post with video eviden a ce proving it. She ignored despite commenting on it earlier. Not to mention she says Ghostface is close to 60% which I know is wrong also. Their opinion is irrelevant when they’ve been proven flat out wrong and don’t provide evidence. Simple.

    Their opinion

Not an opinion. She literally has access to the actual numbers.

    don’t provide evidence. Simple

We got the the stats for all killers. You want an individual killer breakdown. The wording is similar, but if you're going to accuse others (such as @Aven_Fallen and @Mandy) of being wrong you need to be precise in your own wording.

Again. I don’t trust this one Dev in particular because she was proven factual ly incorrect and ignored it. So no I don’t trust her “opinion” because it wasn’t a fact now was it? She has no chart, no number stat we can see just a “trust me” statement She was flat out wrong on some things she claimed thus making them not facts.

Don’t try to flip this on me. I said stats for killers. Like they used to do. Every killer was listed with kill rates. You can’t point to a list that has the top 5 and say it counts when there are 40 other killers. And you can’t even regard the average of all killers combined when you have Nurse and Ghost face existing at the same time.

I’ll trust a stat sheet. Huntress was listed for pick rates but not kill rates lmao. Give me a break with that level of deceit.

Don’t try to flip this on me. I said stats for killers.

You said stats for all killers. Literal words. People responded that they did that and then you said they were wrong.

You could have said 'I see how this could have been misunderstood by saying all killers, I meant an individual breakdown for each killer'.

But you didn't. You instead said others were wrong instead of clarifying which isn't very useful for a discussion forum. If you're going to jump to accuse others of being wrong/deceitful then you need to be precise in your own wording.

    I’ll trust a stat sheet.

Why? Again, if you don't trust a dev, why would you trust them if they put something out in sheet form.

Huntress was listed for pick rates but not kill rates lmao. Give me a break with that level of deceit.

What deceit? They listed the top 5 for a few categories. Huntress is the most overall picked killer excluding the new player MMR, she isn't one of the 5 killers in either of the highest kill rate brackets they posted.

Do you really think they're going after Huntress just to anger you?

So no I don’t trust her “opinion” because it wasn’t a fact now was it?

It's still not an opinion, you're just accusing her of lying because she said she checked the stats "these stats are nowhere near accurate (yes I checked the stats)".

  • It's a shame we just can't have a web page were it shows the data non stop an it gets updates each day or week or something.

Would like to see more information to like gens done an that compared with how many hooks for example
    3 gens - 2 hooks
    5 gens - 6 hooks
    etc

  • Of course Behavior is going to claim that no stats are changing. They're going to claim the same thing when Phase 2 hits. "Nope, killers don't need any buffs, 60% and all that." It's in their best financial interests to keep survivors happy, so that's what they'll do.

  • Well, I am certain that Freddy remains DBD's deadliest killer 😎

Especially in your hands! Go get those filthy survs!

  • Hahahaha, truth be told, my dear friend, I've been playing way more survivor than killer these days.

Especially now that I got my favorite survivor to P100!

I'll keep that in mind, my friend!

  • Nightlight stats sure gonna be accurate, right?

Will say, these stats are nowhere near accurate (yes I checked the stats). I''m guessing they're even more inaccurate than they used to be due to a smaller sample size given that personal stats are now available…so don't all start to panic that kill rates have dropped, they really haven't.

If you have access to the stats. Can see those stats perchance?

  • Go-next prevention made entitled survivors stay in matches so now you don’t get a survivor who kills themselves on hook and giving the killer a 3v1 at the start. This made the killrates inflated. Skull Merchant is proof of this.
