The gen issue in solo
Recently I have been soloq and firstly there has been minimal issues with slugging or tunneling. But I have noticed that literally no one will do gens. My last match I did 4 gens on my own while the other 3 survivors were doing who knows what. What makes it confusing is they all had tool boxes, possibly try to sabo the hooks? But every match is the same tonight, if I don't do gens then killer ends up 4k at 5gen because no one will touch gens. Why can't I get matches like this as killer lol instead I get swf constantly that not only do gens but they do them pretty efficiently.
I have tried getting some sort of explanation for this and all I have been told is "gens are boring". Fair enough it's not exactly thrilling gameplay sitting on a gen but that's the objective of the survivor so if people refuse to do them then is there any wonder why so many killers are steamrolling soloq? The only thing that survivors seems to want to do is get chased (but not twice in a row because that's tunneling).
Maybe make gens more challenging somehow so people wouldn't be so bored they refuse to do them? Maybe more soloq would end up escaping. I was thinking maybe making gen times shorter but when swf smash the gens they go fast enough as it is. Is this a common thing for people to avoid gens in soloq or is it just my matches?

Your survivor MMR is most likely too low for you to see the issues that plague mid to high MMR games. Try playing solo q survivor exclusively for the next month or two and report back when you see an increase in slugging, tunneling, and other teammates doing gens.
I'm High MMR and never see slugging or tunneling. πππ
I mained survivor few years ago and I did pretty well, could loop killers, team mates would do gens, escaped about half the time. Assuming my MMR is low for survivor which it could very well be as I'm not a survivor main anymore. how does one get the MMR up in solo if no one does gens? I could get hatch but hatch doesn't raise MMR
I think the whole argument for not doing gens because it's 'boring' is a bit of a scapegoat. I think it's more likely these players don't want to do gens because you can often be at a disadvantageous location depending on the gen - they'd rather have the jump on the killer than the other way around. I could be wrong though
If you mained survivor prior to 6.1.0, take your escape rate and subtract 30% from it. I also highly doubt nobody is doing gens. It's more likely that the matchmaker unfortunately paired you with two incompetent teams in a row.
That's the main issue with solo Q.
You get these kinds of specimens no matter your skill.
Thats nothing to do with soloQ.
5 matches in a row total of me and 3 other survivors did gens. (1 seemed pretty good, 1 kept failing skill checks and the other DC at 1st hook). Out of total of 20 survivors across 5 matches, 4 were willing to do gens, that's less than 25%. I did main survivor before 6.1.0. I'm not stressed about it because when I occasionally play survivor I'm just chilling and having a casual match. Need that break from the sweaty killer matches lol. I've just never noticed how many people are reluctant to go gens as I have tonight. Different experience than it was few years ago.
You can queue at what I like to call SWF O'clock. I don't know what time that will be in your region, but for mine it's around about 10 PM to 1 AM. Most of the more casual players have logged off by then and queues for Survivor are usually longer. So you have a higher than normal chance of being matched with a fairly competent duo or trio, regardless of what your MMR is.
You can also equip Sole Survivor, outlast your teammates and maybe try to get a few sneaky gate escapes that way. Hopefully you'll escape enough times to eventually start getting better teammates.
Classic finger on the monkey paw situation. My condolences welcome to survivor where killers kill you, and survivors also kill you indirectly. Here is your returning survivor member charm, it doesn't do anything to progress your overall goal, but it looks neat right?
Seriously though, yeah there is a huge chunk of survivors that absolutely refuse to touch gens, like ever. It's not about escaping, it's about shenanigans for them. Can be very frustrating moving through that kind of group if you're not into that.
During this next 2v8 run, keep an eye on how often you have 7 teammates never touching gens. Itβs pretty illuminating.
They just released new archives so people are probably working on challenges, and unfortunately for survivor side there are not many challenges that involve working on or finishing gens. Behaviour also refuses to make a separate queue for people to work on archives - so while you may be going in with the intention to play the game and try to win, you may also end up with three teammates who have other objectives they would rather focus on.
I see this when I play killer. While I do notice that most people will be on gens there is always the occasional person who thinks itβs more fun to chase the killer or run around like a headless chicken instead of doing the objective of the role they chose.
Because the system they have isn't strict enough. I preferred it when queues were like a minute, but at least you knew the caliber you were getting every time.
Nah I got fed up and went back to killer. I will leave it a few more days then do some more survivor when the tome rush dies down. As tsanders pointed out, I think the tome challenges probably played a part for the lack of interest in gens.
Same, its rare for me in my experience.
News flash! Generators are boring to a LOT of people.. xD
You get higher MMR you'll just get some survivors working on gens and more tunneling/slugging. So basically the end result will be the same. I really suggest trying to find a group 2, 3, or 4 man. The game is so much more enjoyable/rewarding if you're playing with other people.
I'm assuming you haven't solo q'd in awhile? Your MMR has likely dropped. I get the random team mate here and there that will barely touch a gen (usually they're running around for flashlight saves), but entire lobbies? And consistently? That makes me think new players.
