Return of hook grab mechanic

This type of mechanic i miss from old Dbd. I mean for now if killer hook someone the entire squad run into killer face to save him cause how free it is now (killer only can do one hit and then getting body block by unhooked or another survivor who want to save). Thats why i think this mechanic should back cause now getting save right into killer face is 0 threat for survivors. Not many killer still can deal with it now like Bubba or Doctor. In old times hook saving requires timing and skill for both side, thats why i think this mechanic should return.

  • I agree. I loved the mindgame part behind it. It made games more interesting in my opinion and it gave unhooking in front of the killer some risk.

For endgame this mechanic was really useful and could help you win with a bit of luck.

  • Absolutely not. Even without hook grabs, going for an unhook is still extremely risky. The Killer can hit the unhooker if they're healthy, and then hit them again right after the unhook, resulting in another free hook for the Killer.

  • It's funny but probably not healthy, kinda can work with AFC mechanics though

Yes a hook trade thats a literally free (guranteed unhook). Before if you failed both of you get hooked, but now it a guranteed free escape for hooked one.

What not healthy about this change?

  • one catch literally wins you a game, a little too strong to be honest

Only if the anti camp system is buffed and enabled in endgame, otherwise id rather not see face/proxy camping become an easier and more annoying strategy

So you think situation when you hooked survivor and all other 3 right unhooking him together and right into your face (cause now unhook right on killer face is not punishable unless you play Bubba) is okay?

Yes, that's either zero survivors on gens or it's endgame in which case the survivors have literally nothing else to do and that's the only way they can save their teammate, and the fact you can play bubba to circumvent it is absurd

Bubba is good example from my side. I guess more killer should punish such a risky save like him.

No they shouldn't, bubba being able to brainlessly get kills for free just by camping isn't a good thing actually

Survivors getting brainlessly get free escape is not good either and hook saving should be more punishable (return situation when survivors has 0 chance to unhook teammate if killer do everything right). And thats a reason i think hook grab should return to be more risky (and not free escape for hooked survivor).

  • I don't think anyone misses matches ending in 3 minutes due to killers being able to grab survivors from hook save attempts. There's a reason it was removed as well as camping. Both of them were major problems.

It was only a problem when survivors try to unhooking right on killer face. But now its kina worse cause unhooking is literally free escape and survivors do it right on front of the killer.

  • I don't really miss it.

Hook grabbing plays were equal to Dead hard "mind game", or Spine chill.

You could play around it, but it's unnecessary annoying.

  • Please no. Standing in front of the killer for thirty seconds spamming partway unhooks to bait them to swing was just stupid.

All this mechanic did was encourage camping. And it's not like survivors get free unhooks now, because if someone bullrushes the killer they're going to get hit on their way in and then hit after the unhook. (And if there's a mob of survivors bodyblocking each other, you likely couldn't get the grab anyway.) A trade progresses the killer's objective very favorably as long as they aren't camping and tunneling, whereupon the conditions become unfavorable - but wanting to be able to sit near the hook and get a 4k by punishing altruism is just greedy.

I don't like their reason to remove it. They said something like they didn‘t like the mindgame part behind it. They didn‘t say they removed it, because of camping.

  • So after years of screaming, crying, tantrums, threats, and whining you're telling me...

That now killers *prefer* to stand directly behind a survivor until they push one button?

NOW, you want to 'just wait it out'?

Survivors don't get brainless free escapes they have to coordinate save to do that and also make sure they die at right place so save is possible at endgame.

Hook grabbing was more luck than skill and was rightfully removed it was not healthy mechanic for the game.

Its not a free escape. You get another hook unless you miss the 2nd hit in which case thats on you. Rarely do I see unhooks with the killer nearby not end with the killer getting another hook.

  • It can stay gone, hook grabs were ridiculous especially in camping scenarios. Baiting the killer most of the time resulted in getting downed/grabbed and eventually killed as a result, why would anyone want that back?

How is a hook trade free when it results in another Survivor on the Hook?

Cause unhooked one being save no matter how killer play good to secure this person

Cause now unhook your teammate is very easy and killer cant do anything to secure person on hook (at max can do a hook trade)

Unhooking shouldn’t be impossible and a gamble for survivors, if your mad about that then maybe camp less, you say the killer can’t do anything but trading is all they can do at max, but trading is basically guaranteed most of the time if the killer is camping, so I don’t understand your point.

A Hook trade means there is another person on the Hook. The Killer WILL end up with a Survivor hooked afterwards. Just not with two Survivors, which is totally fine.

Hook grabs were stupid and getting grabbed just because of Ping was always awful.

  • Even without the hook grab mechanic, I've never viewed unhooking in front of the Killer or hook trading to be a wise decision, except in very rare instances.  If hook grabs returned, I'd have even less reason to attempt an unhook if the Killer is nearby.

You got a hook state for 0 chase time and the hook you are trying to defend is still occupied. This is not a problem unless you were proxying the hook for a while and the 0 chase time is no longer true, because you essentially used all of your time camping to force that interaction and didn't pressure anyone else during it, or you are trying to force the unhooked player out of the game and your new hook stage is not on the survivor you want to pressure.

I'm not really weeping for either of these scenarios. Nor am I feeling that sitting next to the hook having a staring contest is 'playing good.'

  • Eh, it shouldn't have been removed just because of camping. Just because the killers can down the unhooker doesn't mean it was fine to remove.
