lets discuss dc penalties need to be adjusted to be longer

I play solo queue mostly and tough out unwinable games and also don't lobby dodge as a killer (just a side note before the killer main or survivor main gets thrown in).

As for the dc penalties:

I am just going off the number of dcs i have encountered in the last two nights and survivors are just giving up at 5 gens with no hooks (usually in the first down in the first chase). Do survivors not have faith in their teammates?

I am using lethal pursuer since i like to start chases immediately (the part that is supposed to be the most interactive in the game for both roles)

dc matches don't count for the data bhvr collects so it is not making killers either get nerfed/buffed because of inconclusive feedback (survivors as well)...why are survivors hurting themselves by dcing instead of toughing out the game and letting the changes happen naturally?

what are the communities thoughts about increasing the dc penalty?

Comments

  • I don't think increasing the penalty is the way to do it, since the current system has this allowance for people who disconnect for legitimate purposes like an emergency or power cut. Persistent disconnecting does result in much larger bans down the line.

However, I am all for a harsher punishment for continuous disconnectors and one thing which would be great is to force all serial disconnectors to play games only with other serial disconnectors. This may result in longer waits and more frustrating gameplay for them, which in turn may make them decide it's no longer worth it.

Won't stop the suiciders though. BHVR need to put something in place for those too, like remove the struggle aspect from the hook.

  • Just add bots for people who suicide or DC.

Killers aren't screwed out of achievements or BP and Survivors don't instantly lose the game.

    Keeps everyone happy.

The first penalty is 1 minute. 15 minutes would still good enough for most emergencies. 1 minute is practically a free dc.

15 minutes is too much for someone who dc'd because of an internet blip. The system is designed to take that into account so anyone who legitimately has an issue shouldn't really notice. The tiers are for those who are more persistent.

Still, I read somewhere it resets a tier every 24 hours, so maybe this could be looked into so if someone dc's once every day as a habit is picked up on.

  • This is a hard no for me. This game likes to randomly crash on me. Just freezes and then disconnects me from the game. Doesn't crash to desktop or anything. It's annoying and I've gone back and forth with BHVR's support team about it. Even after getting a new graphics card it still does it. Doesn't happen all the time, so I really appreciate the 1 minute DC, because sometimes it's out of your control.

I say keep it how it is now where it gets longer and longer each time you DC. If the penalty is higher, survivors will just die on hook or just be AFK as they watch YouTube or play a mobile game as they wait to bleed out from a killer who refuses to hook them. If someone doesn't want to play, they will find a way. While people who have a legit problem with this game running will be punished.

  • Increasing the penalty would do absolutely nothing. People will just suicide on hook more. There need to be a way to forfeit. Playing a 3 v 1 out the gate is just silly.

1 to 15 isn't that bad of a jump. If you DC because internet issues twice in less than 30 minutes you should probably take a break until you can see it settle down.

It definitely does not reset after 24hrs.

Yeah, if the internet keeps disconnecting morr than once then it's definitely advisable to take a break as you say. The penalties are still fine as is though ... although maybe the first penalty could be 5 minutes instead of 1. It still wouldn't be that major for a once only internet issue and only noticed by those who quitted just to skip.

  • It's only based off what I read, but I never stated it reset entirely. It apparently resets 1 tier as I mentioned. So if someone had disconnected 4 times, the next day the penalty reverts to 3 times the next day.

I'm not sure since this has never affected me,but I never said it resets entirely, which is how your comment feels to be stating.

  • Have the frequent ragequitters match each other. That way, they can still play the game, and the ragequitters can ruin each other's games.

It's the perfect solution. If a player believes it's fine to just quit games, they should be fine with getting matched with other people that also believe it's fine to just quit games.

It really isn't, 15 minutes in a week or two is certainly not a big problem.

Also, increasing DC penalty is useless as long as all survivors have a "free rights of disconnection" through hook suicide, we needs to fix that game breaking issue asap.

    This guy get it

  • The d/c penalty should be capped at 10 minutes with no further penalty after. I've always felt that if a survivor wants out of a match they should be able to do so without being penalized but since players leave sometimes over small things I think a 10 minute cap is enough. Giving up on the hook has been a way but often times you'll get unhooked anyway. Survivors shouldn't have to worry about a d/c penalty for not wanting to play against toxic killers which is what I believe is the main reason why people d/c. I know it isn't the only reason, so I think 10 minutes is enough.

Good thing I never requested an increase in dc penalties then.

Also, for someone who has a disconnect by the isp and can get back into the game, it takes less than 15 minutes to load back up, so someone who disconnected once has to wait probably 10 minutes before playing again which, for a once-off, is more than necessary.

The disconnection penalties are fine as is, but again I reiterate a system that forces repeat disconnectors to play with other repeat disconnectors would be good.
