How would you feel if ALL killers were opressive in chase but no survivor could be tunneled?

Hi! How are guys doing?

I've been thinking about DBD balance these days, and something came to my mind: what if EVERY killer in the game were opressive in chase - like Pyramid Head, Artist, Spirit, Blight - but every surv could be certain that i he/she would not be throw out of the match until some hooks have been distributed?

Like, even when facing killers like Pig or Trapper, you would know you will have a hard time trying to not going down, but you will know also you have so many antitunnel buffs that the killer will need to find another survivor after hooking you.

What you guys would think about this??

  • Boring i'd say, every match would be about the same then.

I still stand with my notion that people overvalue balance way to much. Variety is what makes a game replayable.

Imo a perfectly balanced DbD is a DbD that won't survive long

  • First, it wouldn't be new player friendly as chase/looping is one of those skills that can take awhile to learn. Especially for casual players. It also wouldn't appeal to higher MMR, particularly swfs, where they can coordinate for the strongest looper to take chase/waste time.

Games would also become very methodical and predictable. I think alot of people would lose interest. Tunnelling is definitely one of the more frequent complaints but plenty of survivor mains (myself included) don't really see it enough in our games for it to overly bother us. I think the best thing for those who are significantly bothered by it is to use more perks, like OTR, to try and counter it. And I'm sure BHVR will have more counter perks in future.

Entire reason we don't see a lot of variety in higher ranks is because most of the killer kits suck.

OP's idea would be more fun than the pallet tour extravaganza carrying on right now.

I mean, even if every Killer in existence thinks that they are high MMR - this is not the case.

In general, you can win with every Killer in the game against the majority of Survivors you encounter.

    @Topic:

How would you achieve that? I mean, there would be the need of a game mechanic that prevents tunneling entirely. Because even today you see Blights with 4 Slowdowns and Alchemist Ring/Blighted Crow tunneling at 5 Gens even if they would not have the need to do that with that Loadout.

Also, even IF a Killer is oppressive in chase, this does not mean that they win all the time. So what should a Killer do when they HAVE to tunnel to have a chance to win, but a game mechanic is preventing that? Sure, if we say that they are "oppressive" in chase, it will probably be a rare occurence, but still, it will happen.

Overall, I think it would be pretty boring. Sure, it is not fun to get tunneled out, especially not when facing a strong Killer who would not even need to do that. But every chase being oppressive? So that you basically almost always lose in a chase as Survivor? While the game is a 4v1, the 1v1 should not be forgotten. And making the 1v1 miserable for one side would not really be helpful for the game overall.

In fact, I would say it would result in even more focus on the Objective - when you cannot really go into a chase anymore without losing pretty quickly, you will have to be more efficient on Gens to make it out of the match.

Your idea would make the chase boring for one side and would put more pressure on the already boring part (holding M1 on a Gen) to increase the chance of surviving.

And personally, it would make the chase boring as Killer too, at least for me. I dont have much joy in playing Nurse, because there is not really a challenge involved. I have more fun playing an M1-Killer. Sure, I dont win as much, but it feels satisfying to outplay a Survivor on a strong Loop. And if every chase power would be so oppressive that it happens pretty quickly that you down a Survivor, it would make the case more boring for me.

Instead, we should have features which complement the unbalanced nature of this game. DC bots, backlog queues you can toggle for if you wanna get into a game always or take over for someone if they exceed the dc time that they can return to their game. Stuff solely based on fun like... a single use melee weapon to stun the killer like a portable pallet.

  • There's no way to make tunneling 'impossible', and I'm not sure that would even be healthy for the game. Getting the game down to 2 survivors, for example, would make closing out the match miserable for everyone.

What you really need is to make tunneling a less efficient way to win than it is now, and it'll naturally phase itself out except in those situations where it's actually needed.

  • Nah, it’s important to have strong killers and weaker killers. It makes the game more interesting. It’s a lot more rewarding to 4k a sweaty team with trapper or pig than to 4k them with nurse or blight.

  • it would be bad. Survivor wanna loop the killer to have a good experience. Killer need to end chases fast to win tho. U would be better off removing a hook state from survivors than making every killer trickster level annoying in chase. 8 hooks instead 12 but camping outside end game and tunneling will need to be nerf severely
