Double standards for Nemesis's accuracy
I still keep seeing people say that Nemesis should be completely changed and that he's not really Nemesis. That he's a nerfed version and isn't accurate and isn't threatening and blah blah blah. But that's how licensed killers have been all along, haven't they?
Michael Myers and Ghost Face's power is just to stare at you, and then you go down instantly. Is that accurate to how they work in the movies? I don't think so.
Pig puts on a head trap that you easily get off every time, and has a slow dash attack and has very loud sound cues when she does that or even just comes out of crouch.
Pinhead just has chains and then a box, which is shown to survivors and not him, that can be easily solved that gets rid of his power.
Nemesis has his tentacle which he can whip with, and a few zombies, with a convenient T-virus cure for the survivors to use.
Of course these aren't the best representations of these characters, because these aren't the originals! Their source material is where they're in their prime. If we made every killer accurate to their lore, they'd be on a way more complex level than every other killer in the game.
Of course they don't feel as strong as they should, because this is DBD, in which survivor is the power role! The game isn't based around the killer being scary, it's about survivors doing gens and escaping. Nemesis can't be 125% speed and deafen and break through walls and all that, because this is DBD, not RE3 Remake!
Sure, we could have a stronger or more complex version of Nemesis, but the comparisons to the source material and the demands for this killer have been unlike any other. There are people saying he needs his rocket launcher, and that it needs to be able to instadown survivors from cross-map, I kid you not. There's making reasonable suggestions and criticism, and then there's being ridiculous, which is the bulk of what I've seen from Nemesis "fixes".
Comments
Let them make ridiculous suggestions. I think it reflects their passion for the source material and not to be taken seriously. Meanwhile we must contend with watered down franchise avatars because they're fun for a while, for the price it is less than a Blu-Ray (and keeps the servers running).
I think Myers is in an ok spot. he's more of an end game threat then early game. ghost face is near useless. license killers in general should be stronger than the originals. we pay for those characters, makes no sense those killers aren't all A tier.
Myers is actually very accurate to the film
Tier 1 is the first act. He plays passive and stalks his prey
Tier 2 is the second act. Plays a bit more aggressive but still sticks to the shadows
Tier 3 is act three. Brute force and no stealth.
Pretty accurate if you ask me
It’s be a the tentacle was blatantly based on PH’s POTD. And the Zombies are an Ai with no good input of a player’s skill
Myers is definitely accurate.
Ghostface is 90% an original character. He only has the Ghostface mask.
Pig was accurate with Tampered Timer and Crate Of Gears but now that they got nerfed, she's not really accurate anymore.
Pinhead is accurate based on my limited knowledge of the Hellraiser franchise.
Nemesis was barely an attempt at accuracy, he was just there to be a beginner friendly Killer for the new players coming in, which isn't bad, just boring
in DBD, tier 1 is useless and a total waste of time. Tier 2 is normal killer with half TR with half bamboozle vault speed with no other redeeming qualities. tier 3 is less intimating than a nurse. as OP in post states, most licensed killers are laughable in DBD, so when trailer came out saying another licensed killer was coming out. it was like sigh. Another 6 months until a possible killer with threat comes out. Hope perks do something I guess.
I’d rather a licensed killer be accurate to the film/game and give fans of that character a chance to play them then them to be a licensed skin of anti loop killer number 93
I think Myers is very reminiscent to his film self. Probably the most accurate IMO.
The issue with Nemesis is that he's... just very unoriginally designed in DBD. People were fine with the others because they were actually unique in their own way (excluding GF but it's pretty justified for his case IMO), Nemesis doesn't feel unique.
Plus the guy you replied to isn't even talking accuracy. He's talking about balance which has absolutely nothing to do with it.
Like yeah Myers needs buffs but that's not even the topic at all of this. Myers is depicted quite well in dbd besides his mask...it looks derpy lol.
But take a second and imagine if they tried to represent ips by their true strength....Freddy would be unstoppable.
Tldr; I agree with you. 🙂
Nemesis had a lot of potential to be something truly unique. He's a constantly mutating super-monster. But we just get a single growing hentai and a couple of Walmart shoppers.
Don't insult Charlie and Margaret, they're trying their best
Would Pigs new Video Tape, Rule Set 2 and Rancor be the new lore accurate Amanda build?
Seconding the sentiment that Myers is actually shockingly accurate, he shouldn't be involved in this conversation.
Regarding Nemesis, the thing is that like... from what I've seen of his source material, there are four things that set him apart, right? The sprinting, the leaping, the heavy weaponry, and the mutation/tentacle/zombie portion.
Two of those are a complete non-starter. A leap wouldn't work in DBD, the engine and maps simply aren't built for it, and it's obvious to anyone with a grasp of tonal consistency that Nemesis can't be running around the trial with a rocket launcher, so that leaves them with two options. One can certainly say that the tentacle whip is too reminiscent of Pyramid Head's M2 attack, and even that the mutation mechanic is too similar to Plague's infection, but if they went with a sprint/dash/rush mechanic... that's a mechanic shared by Billy, Oni, Pig, Demo, Blight, Victor, and to a lesser degree Wraith and Legion. There are a lot of mobility based killers, so it's a perfectly legitimate decision not to want to make Nemesis feel more samey by making him one too.
I don't think Nemesis is inaccurate, and they picked the right option when it comes to what to translate, even if it could've been done better.
One reason why Nemesis stands out is that he's already a game character, and more than that, a playable game character in REsistance. So he not only falls short of his original representation, but also of an actual multiplayer game implementation that already gave players more of a feeling of being Nemesis, with more powerful and impressive abilities that mirror those he had as a foe in the original much more closely.
Personally I think most of the licensed killers are actually reasonably well-represented in DbD in both personality and gameplay (only Freddy isn't really), and while they could all certainly be improved still, Nemesis also feels like more of a letdown because his persona is not captured nearly as well. In the source material he's a crazy power package that jumps, runs and roars around, breaks through walls and ceilings, throws around chunks of buildings and uses rocket launchers and flame throwers, yet in DbD all he does is whip people. He's not nearly as menacing, he doesn't pose a unique threat nor feels like a destructive force.
Obviously there's a more limited range of things they could reasonably do in DbD, but there's definitely still stuff they could have done to represent him better and make him more crazy and fun, both in terms of abilities and VFX/SFX. A secondary tentacle ability that has more range and allows him to grab survivors and hurl them around to get them away from windows/pallets, much more tangible power-ups from the mutation levels, such as sprints or general movement speed increases, a roar that temporarily stuns survivors, maybe the ability to turn zombies into something more dangerous like in RE. More of an effect of the contamination status on survivors. Of course his kit shouldn't become too complicated or loaded, but just 2-3 things would have already gone a long way, and I suspect one of the reasons why they weren't more ambitious with his kit is as lame as wanting him to be as simple to play as and against as possible for all the new players the chapter would bring with it. And it doesn't help that pretty much all of his add-ons are lackluster as hell either.
And then also more impressive visual changes to the model with the mutation levels, like his outfit coming apart and body partially mutating. A higher POV for the killer player to translate the increased height he has over any other killer. More of him screaming and those screams also being audible around the entire map. Demo and Oni have a much more impressive presence than Nemesis because of those map-wide screams.
He isn't a bad character/gameplay design, and he doesn't feel like a completely different character from his original self either, but he's just strikingly more lame and tame and brought nothing unique and uniquely compelling/engaging/threatening to the game, not even unique mechanics that make for truly unique gameplay interactions. The zombies are the unique thing that came with him, but they are the opposite of compelling, engaging or threatening, and they obviously don't affect Nemesis as a playable character much at all either.
I still enjoy playing Nemesis, he's not weak, he's comfortable to play and requires rather little thought, which is nice sometimes, but also not really what you'd expect from such an "ambitious" crossover.
The thing is, Nemesis was already playable in an other game : Re Resistance.
While playing him you could track survivors, Run, whip with tentacles and... use a rocket launcher ! (Also he wasnt downsized to fit the game).
So I guess people requests make sense. Because Re fan base may have experience something way more rich than the current version we have right now in DbD, which, to me, feels really dull. (+ not a fan of sound design and chase theme).
That's so disingenuous and vague.
Well ghosface is the only human guy thats why he is very weak.
For nemesis I get a rocket launcher is too much but he should be able to run very fast as they do all tyrants n the films instead of zombies and go at 115% as he do in the game when chasing jill ( he go walking but you get what I mean)
You are kinda right but in the other hand not. The majority myself included just wanted also a sprint ability for him since its one of his biggest most iconic abilities about him. He is a constant threat because he can catch up to you always at any time once he chases you but in dbd he is a slow poke and you can take a nap until he finally arrives to the survivor.
