Why I think undying didn't deserve such harsh nerf

Let me ask you one simple thing. Why killers run undying in the first place? Because totem RNG is busted on some open maps like cold wind farm where most totems are in the open. Killers are forced to run some kind of gen defense build in order to not get simply gen rushed by survivors and here the thing, competitive and decent survivors always spread out and work solo on gen, no matter how much good killer you're are survivors simply can drop the pallet to make chase longer which is fair, however, what is not fair that after you down a survivor and hook them there's always 2~3 gens popped. Yes, ruin + undying was busted but removing aura reveal on lit totem wasn't necessary simply because the killer actually has to go back to the totems which is also some time for survivors to finish gen in the far distance.

That's my opinion you have the right to agree or disagree with me, let's have a talk about it.

  • The aura reveal on lit totems made Thrill of the Hunt a useless perk, or at least made it INCREDIBLY inferior to Undying. Ruin is meant to be a perk for the early-game, it was never meant to be used throughout the entire game. Undying basically made it so that you had to cleanse like 4 Ruins, which was ridiculous.

I think Ruin Undying is still a great combo and still works well.

what this person said. hex perks are also supposed to be high risk high reward. undying in it's original state was extremely low risk, high reward.

Except the devs stated themselves that current ruin was designed as an endgame perk. Try again?

Source for that? I genuinely can't tell if you're being serious or not, so pardon me if you're being sarcastic. If you mean endgame as in late game then it makes sense with how incompetent the devs are (though at least they listened to the community on DS and Undying), but Ruin literally only affects generators and that's about it, nothing related to the EGC.

Mhm. Devour Hope is also a great example for that.

that's neat that they said that but if it were truly supposed to be an ~endgame perk~ they should have made it so it activates and the totem lights up when 2-3 gens were done.

Did you forget that thrill of the hunt slows down totem cleansing? Which let the normal killer get back to their totem in time. Infinite ruin + undying combo was busted you're correct, however in a current state if undying spawned in the open and got cleansed did the killer get any value? No, at this point killer could just bring another hex perk instead of undying which is why aura reveal on any totem was fine.

  • They should nerf it even more actually.

It needed changed slightly but not nerfed to the ground. A lot of people forget ruin+undying ONLY WORKED if pressuring gens so therefore camping hooks etc meant you'd get little to no value for it. With the red envelopes has come increased gen rushing and although I try not to if I'm against 4 very efficient survivors I've had to resort to tunnelling or proxy camping. Take away my tools and I'll resort to desperate Measures. I'm not gonna let 4 people gen rush me and expect a simple escape. Ruin Undying wasn't the be all and end all but it was powerful anti gen rushing. So survivors shouldn't be shocked to see increased tunnelling/camping

Pretty sure that was Old ruin, just like DS was not even intended to be an anti tunnel perk until now.

Thrill of the Hunt is pretty much the inferior version of Undying. Undying protects your totems for you while TOTH helps protect your totems but requires you to work for it. And yeah there's value, Undying is there as protection for Ruin so you'll still have Ruin for another 2 minutes or something. If you're bothered by that, you can just run Corrupt (for reliable early game slowdown) and Pop.

Ok yeah, thank you chief. Seriously though if undying got cleansed first, the whole value of undying is lost that is why aura reveals on lit and dull totems was fair but right now DEVS just simply didn't bother to balance it out and just nerfed it to the ground. I mean back in a day when survivors complained about face camping/slugging, DEVS actually listen and added Bill with unbreakable + borrowed time. When killers complained (gen speed, prep time for hag/trapper, etc) they received plague perks. When Mettle of man was brokenly OP they didn't even bother to balance it out and just simply nerfed to the ground, same thing with undying. Those perks are just not viable to run anymore, no wonders why killer/survivor meta is always the same because DEVS are lazy or incompetent balancing stuff.

As I've said, Undying is still a great perk, and might be even better than the old Undying. It's a temporary yet reliable mask for your hex perk and also works with way more perks now (Devour Hope, Lullaby, etc.), while current MoM is pretty much, well, y'know, crap, and I do believe that MoM deserves a rework. Back to the topic:

Not all perks are supposed to be reliable, and not all perks are supposed to work every time. Undying is a great example for that.

It would be a reliable mask if it actually removed exposed/curse status (Devour hope or NOED for example) however it's doesn't. This is why undying in such a weak spot, well at least for me. Its value depends on RNG and the map also depends on survivors (if they run small game/detective's hunch or map) no matter what killer do and because it's 50/50 makes it even worse which is why aura reveal was needed. Right now is survivors stumble across dull totem it will actually tell them that they've been cursed by undying which is also making perk even worse as a "masking tool" at least in my opinion.

  • That perk should never have even happened... Hex totems are already easily guarded by certain killers like Trapper / Hag... not to mention you all have aura reading and wall hacks with BBQ... you don't need another ward to protect your gen progression... learn to play killer or don't play killer at all.

If you think that playing only as a survivor makes your arguments valid, just simply get out. If you think that BBQ is OP wallhack and everything is simple, just get out and play both sides you tilted survivor main.
