Another day on the DS guessing game!

Decisive Strike as you know is the strongest survivor perk in the game for years now. True tunneling no longer exists because even if the killer downs the unhooked survivor, he can't pick them up. It can also be abused by jumping in lockers and other grab baiting moves. If the killer slugs the survivor, they have to stay around until the timer has expired and if so, they get gen rushed.

The most infuriating thing to me about the perk is that you MUST assume everyone has it. Taking even 1 or 2 5-second stuns is game ending for killer, so you have to play around DS unless you want to lose.

So I had a game where I pretty much 2-hooked everyone, a symptom of playing around DS, and what looked like an easy 4k turned into a close 3k. We're not gonna go into "killers entitled to 4k's" because a robbed kill is a robbed kill any way you look at it, even if it's the last one. The survivors had given tons of free hits, but gen speed and bad map design negated that of course. If I had 5 more seconds, I would have gotten that last person. I look at the end results screen only to find out that 1 PERSON had DS. Nobody else had it. That game would have been so free if I had just not played around DS, or if it had just tunnelled everyone.

So DBD at red ranks is just a huge guessing game. Does 1 person have DS or do 4 have? Or 3 or 2? If I play around it, I might be wasting an easy hook. If don't, I could lose the game. Maybe you shouldn't make survivor perks so powerful that the killer has to assume everyone has it.

  • It sounds like DS had its intended effect. You got everyone to death hook, so everyone's points were probably pretty great, and ended with 2 dead, 2 alive, which is the basic idea of balance in this game. You are complaining why?

If you choose to play as though everyone has DS because you can't handle the potential of a brief stun and having to chase them 10 more meters before downing and hooking them, that's your choice as a Killer. It doesn't denote anything wrong with the perk at all. Survivors spend their time cleansing all the totems because they suspect the killer might have NOED, to the detriment of their gen progression, and sometimes the killer doesn't even end up having it. Or sometimes they don't and it completely changes the dynamic of the end game. That's their choice.

The fact that you openly stated if you didnt think they had it you wuld have just tunneled everyone is the exact reason perks like BT and DS HAVE to exist in the game. Also, DS is not broken when it's used outside of being tunneled. That's its function. It is not specifically an anti-tunnel perk, that is just its core use. Many perks have multiple or situational applications. DS is one of them.

So I agree with everything you said apart from. The "10 extra metres" bit. Killer has a 5 second stun and from the moment when you hit the ds check you wait ~1.2 seconds from what I remember as you drop. So you have 3.8 seconds to get away, moving at 4m/s that's actually 14.4m you get. A killer moving at 4.6m/s would catch up at 0.6m/s if the survivor keeps running in a straight line, meaning that the ds stun actually buys the survivor 24 seconds before the killer catches up.

Op, the entire point of ds is to stop tunnelling, so having to play the guessing game is part of that. Do you tunnel for a potentially easier game but risk eating ds, or do you not and not get stunned for 5, but suffer an overall slightly harder game. If you ended in a 2k or above then the perk served its exact function, maybe not even well enough, and there's no reason to complain. Ds could use some tweaks to make it less abusable but the guessing game aspect of it needs to stay; its why ds is so effective.

Most survivors can't and won't run in a straight line for obvious reasons. They are going to try and vault a window, reach a palette, or try and go immersive if they can LOS. It is also affected by the mobility of the Killer or their ability to attack at a distance and the environment of the survivor. So, fair that the penalty could be longer, but it depends.

  • Stuns for 5 seconds

    Breaks killers grasp

    Heals one full heathstate instantly

    Activities every match effortlessly

What could possibly be overpowered ?

Don't you think killer has too little information about survivor compared to what survivors received?

Killer has no information whatsoever about survivor's perks except the obsession pop in or not. You can only memorise their individual perks after they used it in front of you.

However, survivor has tons of information about killer's perk, even add-ons.

Hex? It tells you directly what hex the killer has except some "quiet" one.

Deadman switch? It tells you right away.

Sloppy? It straightforward tells you you're mangled.

Oblivious? It basically tell you to be careful about your surrounding so you're never caught off-guard.

The only one you have to assume the killer has is NOED, and yet, so many people complain about it, even it has so many downsides.

    Is this fair?

    Yes, I do.

  • So you only got a 3K instead of a 4K? Man, I feel bad for you...

  • There's no such thing as a robbed kill, or robbed escape for that matter. Until you've killed a survivor or they've escaped it's not "your kill" or their escape respectively, unless something isn't working as intended. And DS is working as its implementation describes for better or for worse, whether it sticks to its intended purpose is a seperate discussion where many agree it could use some sort of smartly designed deactivation conditions.

How exactly would you implement a way to tell who has DS and who doesn't? Depending on how such a system worked it could paint a big "tunnel me!" sign on a specific survivor from the start of the match, something I doubt the devs have any interest in implementing considering old Dying Light was changed from a state with the same issue.

I just really don't think that's the way to go, and the often discussed path of trying to prevent it from being used more "aggressively" while active is a better solution.

  • Another salty killer main who didnt get a 4K awwww lmao

  • Poor babyrage killer.

Survivor main who leaps at the chance to defend their power role perks. I at least play killer.

  • Ok to start off, yes I play killer. Yes I have been DS'd, and no I don't think a one time use perks need nerfing once again, even if i have never used it since it doesn't fit my playstyle.

Not everything is handed to survivors either when it comes to guessing what the killers using. Killer moves away from the hook without stopping to check around? Might be Devour hope. Killer beelines right to you....BBQ? Crap, i'd better hide in lockers from now on. Make your choice...nobody knows about that one till it happens. Iron Maiden. Trappers injury addons. Stridor. Spirit fury. And biggest of all, survivors never know who they are going up against. There are plenty of perks that survivors don't know about till they get hit.

And as mentioned before. There is no 'robbing' you of a kill you haven't yet made.

I do too and I don’t care about DS. Only baby killers get the bait.

  • tell this to the entitled survivors who will defend ds until the end of the world because they're desperate ot keep their unfair advantages, slimy survivors are slimy.

  • DS is not the strongest survivor perk by far. Most good killers know how to deal with it and mostly always prevent it from activating.

im sorry but this is just an ignorant comment of someone who either does not actually play in a fair and fun manner or something who does not actually play killer at all.

also imagine actually needing to run the meta as survivor to do well...big oofz.

Just because you don’t agree with me doesn’t make you right. There’s a reason solo survivors use DS. Also, I do play killer a lot and if a 5 sec stun bothers you that much to be this salty then clearly I’m not the one who’s not having fun hehe

  • Don't tunnel or chase down the person off the hook and you don't have to worry about DS

Slug them🤗🤩 Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy

  • Imagine being so upset by getting a 3k instead of an "easy 4k" you run to the forums and write a 4 paragraph long post about it. No entitlement here, though, I promise.
