You give anti-loop drones as a reason entitled survivors wanted her nerf'd instead of Learning the counter play?
OP, a new player to the game as stated, asks you to clarify the counter play to anti-loop drones
Crouching/standing still. Deactivating drones. Forcing an M1 to… wow.
Op, this is an example why you need to really weigh all the info you get from these forums. You will have survivor mains, even entitled ones. You will have killer mains doing the same thing. See example above.
Just to be clear, all of his 'counter plays' will get the survivor killed. Hence… no real counter play. Not to say there wasn't any, but @skwillexy and I disagree. Like, full stop. Skull merchant of her release was hell, and I (showing another bias) refuse to add her to my roster. She's the only character I don't have in the game. Those games were hellish when trying to get friends into the game.
Someone will likely say things I could have done, and that's cool. They're right. Etc."im not a survivor main, I play both roles" ahh moment
no but for real, this is the dumbest take I have ever read. literally all of the examples + W keying were ways to counter her. what counter would you suggest against artist crows or clown bottles? W keying? you take a hit
What about nurse and blight mobility? pallets? doesnt work. w keying? you take a hit
what about skull merchant? you counterplay her the way I described and MIGHT take a hit, but suddenly its a problem

Begs the question what was the counterplay?
Crouching/standing still to avoid drone beams, deactivating drones around the map to reduce map pressure, forcing an M1 to avoid drone injury
-
She once was reworked to be chase oriented with antiloop drones, however, entitled survivor mains refusing to learn counterplay got her nerfed into the state she is in now. She feels unplayable and BHVR doesnt seem to care sadly

Already did.
We almost buffed every low tier or reworked some of them.
Pyramid head, freddy, singularity, knight, trickster, myers.
Not every killer is perfect but there are solid contenders.
The problem is, as long as you have an absurdly easy yet powerful alternative, no one would bother to consistently play anyone else.
Why would i play myers if ghoul/blight/nurse do it better and easier than what i mentioned?
Trapper, Legion, Ghostface, Skull Merchant, THOSE are low tier killers
And none of them had a good rework/update

How about buffing F tier killers so you see killers besides Nurse and Blight? No?
-
Wouldnt be surprsied tbh, killer is being made a less attractive role to play from patch to patch

They still keep saying it. But they wasted so much time and resources on her that at this point I wouldn't be surprised if they remove her from the game.
Then I would be greatly embarassed as a multi million dollar company. The least I hope for in that case is that they refund the money people spent on the dlc and cosmetics.

They said they won't continue development untill decent feedback from buffs. Now there will be rework for trickster and I'm sure they said that SM rework won't be a thing untill end of 2026 if at all.
I mean if bigger dbd content creators like Pixel Bush for example and from what I have seen larger parts of the community say that she is still very bad I dont think it should be hard for BHVR to recognize that further development is necessary. But yeah, lets wait I guess
-
Hardly agree!!! If they want to scrap the rework, at meast revert her to her pre killswitch state with double scanlines or whatever buffs, she feels incredibly weak still

The point of the forum is more for community discussion and interaction with each other, some ideas making their way to the devs is just a side bonus like bug reporting is.
I mean it literally says feedback and suggestions and "our team will be happy to read these“ which I highly doubt at this point

@Elan said:
Now when three gens are resolved they can go back to original skull merchant so…
→ She creates area that exposes
→ can remotely activate drones
→ claw trapped survivors break pallets upon vaults
→ shes undetectable inside drones
To be honest I would disagree, that version of her was way too weak in chase. I would rather have the double scanline version with the stealth drones that also gave haste on scans. There, she was somewhat viable in chases.
-
She needs her second scanline back as well as the stealth drones. The buffs barely helped her and the stealth being attached to recalling a drone is a terrible change. She definitely needs more buffs. They intentionally butchered her in 8.3.0, so now they also have to actually work on her.
-
Sadly all of the low tier killers need buffs (Dredge, Trapper, Legion, Skull Merchant, Hag, Ghost Face) but BHVR doesnt seem to care about those, so realistically, I wouldnt get my hopes up
-
When are you gonna rework the Skull Merchant? Asking here because there is no thread on feedback for her recent changes
-
wow, I actually even like this rework. Looks like genuine effort, something you dont see much from the devs. At this point I feel like Skull Merchant players should get the money back for the dlc and the cosmetics, considering they intentionally gutted her to be unplayable
-
@PetTheDoggo said:
I am just not interested in her anymore, because of last stealth change. That was terrible change, like she needed a nerf…
Would be fair to give people the money back that was paid for the dlc and her cosmetics, considering they intentionally gutted her to be unplayable

@Elan said:
I assume they said there will be Trickster rework at start of 2026 and later they might revisit SM rework if her buffs don't meet the expectations.
honestly double scanlines would be enough

I play her quite a bit and maintain a ~75% kill rate with her. She's not nearly as bad as she's made out to be. If you try to play her as a basic chase M1 killer, you're going to have a bad time. Don't M1 someone who already has 2 or 3 scans. Laser tag them.
She can still control areas well and she puts a ton of strain on survivors when you have an area droned and someone hooked deep in it. You're not sacrificing a ton of map pressure if you use disabled drones to trigger the stealth.
I play a hybrid area control/stealth hit and run style and do well pretty consistently. Not saying I'd put her in B or A tier, but she's not unplayable by any means. Sloppy/Leverage/Surge/Monitor usually does well.
What annoys me is that she was in a quite good spot before the nerfs and entitled survivor players who refuse to learn counterplay got her nerfed into the state she is in right now, and apparently they want to leave her there. Its just pathetic considering that there are people who actually bought the dlc and cosmetics, too. Im not saying she is unplayable, at least not after the buffs, but the ratio of effort to reward is so extremely bad that its exhausting to play her. Guess Skull Merchant is Freddie 2.0 now
-
I can honestly not tell whether this is ragebait or not. She is still ranked F tier in every single killer tier list and the vault immunity removal (the so called "buff") is literally the bare minimum to her power. If someone is injured, she needs to scan someone 4 times in order to have a hinder weaker than a clown bottle. The 10 seconds is also not true, just like the undetectable gain at drone placement. She receives undetectable for 8 seconds after recalling a drone, which literally means trading map pressure for a few seconds of weak stealth (she is only really undetectable for 2-3 seconds because the terorr radius slowly fades out instead of instantly vanishing). Have you played her? Serious question
-
@ShanoaLegendaryPlz said:
She was quite rare to see before the recent change. Havent seen her since. I also have her at p100, only played her once and went "hope shes still getting the rework."
To be fair I havent heard from a single SM player who thought that the recent changes were enough to save her from F tier.

They will never do that because survivors do not allow another killer to compete. Look at all the 'nerf vecna' and 'nerf ghoul' posts. Once those are nerfed, they go back to complaining about Blight and Nurse again as usual.
But then its not the survivors that are the problem, more like the devs listening to them :) according to survivors, every killer needs a nerf

I've lost a massive amount of respect for Pixel with his constant talk of turning her into ANOTHER projectile slop killer that we don't need with the stupid "drone buddy" idea that a bunch of morons think is a good idea. If it isn't dash slop, it's projectile slop, and I'm sick of both of these styles.
Then she needs more buffs if its not for a rework. How about double scanlines or stealth drones? Thats what she was usually thought for, a setup/trap killer. With one beam only and no stealth mode, drones are way too easy to avoid imo
-
@Kupega said:
I think the buffs recently put her in a better spot so I don't think they should waste the resources on a rework, maybe another small buff would put her in the best spot she's been in but they kind of have to be careful with how much they give her before she becomes the hated killer again
I mean she is still garbage and pretty much F tier in every ranking, just not unplayable anymore, and thats only because they removed the vault immunity to the scanlines. Pixel Bush made a great video on it, I would recommend it.
-
They need to add her 2 scanlines back, literally anyone who is complaining about her never played her before. Id say either 2 scanlines or haste on every scan, otherwise her drones are just underpowered especially when someone is already injured.

And you too, do not know what you're talking about, as random1543 points out the difference in playstyle between v1 Release Skull Merchant and whatever you think you're describing.
If you don't actually understand the history of how this killer has worked, her many changes since release, and how that has impacted her perception and position in the game, then arguing with you is pointless since you're arguing from both a place of ignorance and bad faith.Just because she was problematic in the beginning doesnt mean she should be treated like a trash can forever… If you genuinely think shes viable in her current state especially in higher MMR idk what to tell you other than you are wrong. The only reason why she got into her current state is because of survivors crying and refusing to learn how to counter her, thats it

As someone who played against v1 skull merchant in march 2023 I'm sorry but that is not true in regards to her best state being C tier
v1 skull merchant could easily time out the match, old drones gave exposed if the survivors sat in them not like they currently are now where you only get caught by drone if running. This was also before the gen kick limit and the anti camp came into effect. Map offerings where also still a thing so they could pick a map if someone didn't take a counter offer.She was the best at holding the 3 gens with drones, If a survivor commits with the drone there to expose them and a free down as she also had undetectable and a free hook in the 3 gen since no anti camp, if the survivor got rid of the drone she would know and come put another one down. she would not chase outside of her set up 3 gen and the survivors would run out of recourses if they try to break it.
She was arguable S tier due to her ability to play into the gen kick meta that was happening when she came out, making it much much worse.
If she came out in the games current form there would be argument that at her best she was C. but considering the context on when she came out v1 was top tier.Im talking about chase merchant, not chess merchant. Im talking about her version after she first got reworked.

I don't think a killer should be adjusted to make them convenient for players that are lazy and want free wins. That's how you end up with Release Ghoul/Krasue/Skull Merchant.
Considering she was a C tier killer in her best state, I dont think Skull Merchant is no where to be compared to release Ghoul/Krasue. The only thing that was different back then is that she had a reliable anti loop tool compared to now and additionally extremely immobile compared to Krasue/Ghoul. If you really wanna compare her to another killer, Artist would be my call, except that Artists crows are effective compared to Skull Merchants drones in their current state. I should know, I play both killers.

@PetTheDoggo said:
I really don't like undetectable on recall. It's just nerf for normal playstyles and it's good only if you are willing to recycle one drone for infinite undetectable. I am just too lazy for that.
I used to enjoy her ambush playstyle with undetectable and mostly ignored drones overall, but that's just more work for same result now and result is not even good.Well it did get pathetic to the point that they intentionally nerfed her to the ground just so that no one would player her and there would be no complaints about her anymore… I dont think that was fair towards people who genuinely enjoyed playing her and bought a lot of cosmetics. So yeah, changes are necessary.
