  • Hello everyone!

Emergency...Shutdown?๐Ÿ˜ฏ Wow that is an interesting name right there. Great effect too - Stealth players (who represent less than 5% of the playerbase๐Ÿ˜‘) could make good use of it.

HOWEVER, the Developers will never EVER add such a Perk (which is sad 'cause it would have surely become my first pick everytime). As you might have already noticed, all the Stealth Perks the Survivors have are just for show. They are nearly useless. The only viable Perks are those which help you last longer in chases/rush certain actions so that you get out faster.

Do not fool yourself into thinking you can hide! Not only does the map design not allow it most of the time but also the Killers have quite a few detection Perks. This game is entirely based on two things: Running around in circles and holding down the Left Mouse Button to rush Generators.

If you enjoy moving around in a circle but you find this game rather frustrating, have no worries!๐Ÿ˜€ You can give racing games a try, where you can continuously drive in circles to simulate the current Dead by Daylight experience (there's not too much of a difference to be honest).

Oh and one more thing: if you haven't gotten the hang of Chases yet, you should give up. Do not waste your precious time practicing. You will not get any better. (I have 1638 hours in this game and my Chases last 30 seconds on average๐Ÿค—)

"So you want Legion to tunnel more so then most have to now?"

Yes, I do want Legion to tunnel. There's nothing wrong with tunneling, it's a valid tactic.I don't know why so many people complain about it.The sooner the Killer gets someone out of the game the better. It's beneficial for them, they earn the time they need, so why shouldn't they do it? I personally don't rely on tunneling because I want to have fun, not necessarily to win. Moreover, if the Killer is tunneling, the other 3 Survivors are left alone for a while.

If the Survivors rely on looping to win (sometimes they even mock the Killer) and they eventually get caught, they deserve everything that is coming to them, including being camped/tunneled.

I would rather face a Legion who takes Survivors out of the game one at a time than a Legion who continuously interrupts everyone and forces them to mend. It's annoying.

"How backwards do you have to be to be fine with all that?"

The Killers are at a disadvantage. They need all the help they can get. (I'm a Survivor main by the way.) The things I mentioned, the ones you consider to be somewhat broken, are the least of my concerns when playing against a Legion to be honest.

"Play Legion at high ranks, if you can consistently get 4ks without using any of the three things you mentioned, then you mostly will earn my respect."

I'm afraid I don't understand. You would normally say that ^ to someone who complains about those Legion-related "issues". I'm perfectly fine with them so...

If what you're trying to point out is the fact that Legion should not rely on good addons to win, then I agree. Legion should be buffed. Being able to down a Survivor on the 3rd hit (by default) may do the trick.

  • The ONLY thing I absolutely hate about the Legion is Killer Instinct. If that part of their Ability were gone there would be nothing wrong with this Killer.

Using exploits/powerful addons/tunneling is fine, but getting to see my Location just because you stabbed someone else while I was within your Terror Radius pisses me off.

  • I was about to crawl out through the Exit Gates as Jake. Next to me, there was a Dwight, also in the Dying State. The Killer, a Trapper, had time to pick up only one of us... and he chose to kill the Dwight ! ๐Ÿคฉ

He said he had done this because of two reasons:

    1. He liked my outfit more.
    2. He wanted to take revenge on all the Dwight's as he had seen a video on YouTube in which a Dwight fought and knocked out a Trapper ๐Ÿคฃ ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UShrMJCPHjk )
  • Dwight!100%!

He looks really goofy and he has the most provoking face I've ever seen! The sounds he makes, especially when he gets hit or falls from a height, are extremely irritating/puerile!

Whenever he joins the lobby I'm like "Grrrr-ARGHHHH๐ŸŒก๏ธ !!!!!" . His appearence really pisses me off. When I am injured I never allow him to touch me with his filthy hands (which only serve a purpose as far as masturbation goes).

If I were to see Dwight on the street I would tackle him, hold him down and then punch๐Ÿ‘Š his head against the asphalt multiple times using all the momentum I could possibly get๐Ÿ’ฅ.

I hate this Survivor from the bottom of my heart!

I've tried to tell him a million times but he won't take the hint!

You are a pest! You are a toad! You're ugly and your mother dresses you funny! YOU ARE THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE, DWIGHT FAIRFIELD! You, ARE A LOSER! ๐Ÿ’ฃ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ข๐Ÿ’ข๐Ÿ’ข

  • Those who say Whispers is not that great... ARE WRONG!

If the Killer has it, no matter how good you are at Stealth, you will not escape.

I could have escaped again if it hadn't been for this DISGUSTING๐ŸŒก๏ธ Perk.

We were playing on Autoheaven against a Nurse. She had Whispers (her first pick obviously), NOED (I have nothing against this one), A Nurse's Calling and BBQ&Chilli (those two are perfectly fine too). The others died pretty fast and I was left alone with 4 Generators. I don't blame them - it was a Nurse afterall. The Nurse's weakness is supposed to be Stealth. But what if she equips detection Perks like most Nurses do ? She will become nearly unstoppable (if she has Whispers and she's skilled then she WILL be unstoppable).

The match lasted around 25 minutes. I was trying to hide in the area of a Generator, keeping my distance, and start repairing it after she had already patroled. If she hadn't gotten Whispers, thanks to my Left Behind Perk, I would have been able to repair the Generator in 40 seconds while she was gone and the Hatch would have spawned.

    1.jpg

Whispers completely ruined this strategy. Luckily I kept my distance and I managed to leave the area. I was able to dodge her this way a couple to times during the match.

She saw me twice but I succeeded in loosing her.

    20190330005657_1.jpg

All this effort was pointless as she always interrupted me at the Gens; even Left Behind wasn't good/fast enough. Basically, her Whispers, which is ONE perk, countered my FOUR Stealth Perks. How is this fair ? That was my best shot.

    4.jpg

After 25 minutes of doing this, I died. The Stealth player should be able to win on his/her own, regardless of what their teammates are doing. As long as Whispers is a thing (as well as other detection Perks/Abilities/Addons that have no SOLID counter) this will not be possible. As I have already mentioned, if Calm Spirit were buffed, so as to counteract such game mechanics (no matter how "situational" they may seem to the Killer mains; today I had to deal with 8 Whispers users), it would fix some Stealth issues.

    34.jpg

(Sorry for the bad quality, I'm playing on low ๐Ÿคฃ)

    By the way...

  • @Kind_Lemon

"A survivor wiggles at normal speed when within 20 meters of any hook. A survivor wiggles at 50% speed when not within that radius. However, a survivor wiggles at 160% speed if the killer passes within 20 meters of a non-sabotaged hook and then exits that radius to go to a different hook. It would then be more balance to have longer hook respawn timers without killers needing to slug."

Nice one ๐Ÿคฉ (I kind of doubt such a game mechanic will actually be implemented though๐Ÿค”)

  • Yes, your Aura gets revealed if you do this. I stepped out too early while I had Distortion and one Token was consumed.

  • I would rather have Lightweight make Scratchmarks disappear even faster, like 5 seconds on tier 3. In its current state, this Perk is useless/very inconsistent.

I have been using it for hundreds of hours thinking that it helped, but it did not. I paired it with Premonition and even if I started running as soon as Premonition lit up (the Killer was 36 metres away) AND even if there was a lot of cover between us, the Killer still managed to track me because of the Scratchmarks. Whenever I ask the Killer in the endgame chat whether they saw my Scratchmarks, they say they did, but the Scratchmarks were a little bit hard to follow (slightly faded). We tested it in a Kyf match too and the Killer confirmed he could track me because of them.

For example, I was behind the main building on the Gas Heaven map. The Killer was in front of it, on the opposite side, 36 metres away. I ran a little bit and I hid behind a rock somewhere to the left, while I was completely out of the Killer's sight. He was still able to track them as they weren't gone, only less visible.

  • @not_Queef said:

A better change would be to give a 5 second cooldown on the audible notification, but no cooldown on the visual one.

So you could still track the survivor's movement without the constant noises.

    This ^

    You're a genius ๐Ÿ˜€

  • They should give each Survivor a 4th Unique Perk. This Perk is unlocked at Level 50 and like any other Perk, it has 3 tiers. However, unlike the other 3 Perks each Survivor has, this one is not a Teachable, it is truly unique so only that particular Survivor has the opportunity to equip it (if they wish). The Perk won't appear in the Bloodwebs of any other Survivor.

Firstly, P3 1-50 is NOT the average killer. You have increased chances of getting those items at P3. There are also only a few killers that even have addons that show auras and most of those addons are just okay at best anyway. Myers mirrors? Those are for meme's, hardly strong against any survivor that's even half way competent. You are getting looped into oblivion and that's not even mentioning how map dependent those addons are to even be decent.

    "How is Whispers situational?"

Well to start off Whispers isn't even that great unless you are down to the last survivor remaining as multiple survivors including hooked ones throw off its ability to pinpoint. It also is countered by lockers. Knowing a survivor is in the area is also in most situations a wasted perk slot as survivors don't care if you know where they are as pallet looping is so strong. There's a reason you don't see many rank 1 killers running this bar a few exceptions that need it like Huntress. It's because it just isn't as good as you think it is on most killers and in most situations compared to other perks. A decent survivor knows how to manipulate a killer using this, it's not hard.

    "Rancor"

This is a ping and not an aura read, that is WAY less valuable than you think it is. Unless you are literally standing on top of them they are going to be gone by then. It also shows the obsession YOUR aura. Lastly, same situation as with Whispers, decent survivors DO NOT CARE if you know their location. The looping in DBD is so strong that killers knowing your location is quite irrelevant. This is the entire reason you don't see most killers using any of these "Finding" perks at rank 1, because finding doesn't doesn't mean anything. This is also why most all the killers that are good at finding survivors are all some of the worst killers. This isn't a find game, it's a chase game.

"How can you counter Perks like these? How can you counter Killer Instinct ?"

Killer Instinct isn't a perk or any ability in the game, where are you getting this? Most all of these "finding" perks for killer aren't even used. Even if they were, survivors have multiple stealth perks to improve their stealth and most those killers perks can be countered by LITERALLY just playing differently. You don't even need a perk to counter them.

"If you run away as soon as the Legion hits another Survivor while you are within his Terror Radius doesn't mean he isn't aware of your Location"

The killer knowing your location in DBD is worth way less information than you think it is. Also, Legion is broken design and getting reworks soon so he is not a good point of comparison.

"If Whispers and Rancor are "situational" Perks, then why shouldn't Calm Spirit for example, which is also a situational Perk, counter them ?"

Those killer perks are situational because in most situations the information they provide isn't worth that much. If your argument is you want buffs for Calm Spirit sure, it's a weak perk. However, those killer perks aren't that strong to deserve more counters. They're already not worth a slot in most cases which is why no one does. Like I said before as well, Legion is a bad comparison point as he is broken and is receiving changes soon.

You really just hate being found? Run Spine Chill or Premonition. Boom every "finding" killer and perk in the game you just countered with only 1 perk. That's fair right? Myers is literally the only exception to this when in tier 1 and honestly even with a mirror if you lose to a Myers staying in tier 1 that is a skill issue on your part.

"Well to start off Whispers isn't even that great unless you are down to the last survivor remaining"

It is ! It's the most broken Perk in the whole game. Today it destroyed my momentum 3 times. The Killer came to my Gen and even if it hadn't been worked on, because of that Perk, he patroled the area and found me. It would not be that big of a deal if the map design were better. Unfortunately, there were only one rock and a few trees there (which is the case of many other areas). I had nowhere else to go. I always look for the usafe Generators first, wait for the Killer to patrol them/be in a Chase and then start repairing those, so that the safe Generators are left for the endgame. Whispers denies that. AND it is extremly good against the last Survivor as you have said.

"It also is countered by lockers"

    It is not ๐Ÿคฃ

"Survivors don't care if you know where they are as pallet looping is so strong"

"You really just hate being found?"

If you get seen/chased you will eventually go down. If you go down, you won't receive the Iridescent Unbroken Emblem.

Yes I do hate getting seen. Not only is it very likely not to get the Iridescent Unbroken Emblem but I will also have no choice but to depend on my teammates to rescue me from the hook/risk getting camped. These days I died exactly 9 times on my first Hook because they refused to rescue me. I wasn't being camped. Two times there was a Generator really close to my Hook and instead of rescuing me, the Survivor chose to repair. After the Generator had been completed, he didn't bother to come for the rescue, he just left. Usually those guys get hooked before I do and when that happens I always try to save them. I don't have a free slot for Deliverance by the way.

If you don't get found, you are more likely to get more points in the Benevolence category since you are the one who rescues those who got caught. Also, if you get chased the whole match you won't be able to do anything else and you will depip.

Jake is supposed to be "The Solitary Survivalist" which means he has to be independent. If you don't get seen, you won't get hooked and you won't need the other Survivors to come and save you. ๐Ÿคฃ

Seeing my (sometimes) arrogant teammates who loop, getting injured and then hooked while I'm still untouched feels satisfying. ๐Ÿ˜€

    "Rancor

This is a ping and not an aura read, that is WAY less valuable than you think it is. Unless you are literally standing on top of them they are going to be gone by then."

I was found a few times because of it, 5 seconds after a random Generator was completed. It's not as strong as Whispers though.

"Killer Instinct isn't a perk or any ability in the game, where are you getting this?"

It is part of Feral Frenzy lol ๐Ÿคฃ It refers to the moment you stab someone with your ability and everyone else's Location within your Terror Radius gets revealed. It cannot be avoided no matter what you do.

Whispers, Rancor, Killer instinct (and any other similar Perks that can't be avoided and show the Location of your body to the Killer as a "bubble notification" which might be added into the game) should be countered by Calm Spirit. Currently there is no solid way to avoid those. Since most Killers use only 1 detection Perk at a time it will be balanced: My Calm Spirit counters your detection Perk (not if it is based on Auras though).

    "Run Spine Chill or Premonition."

I do run Premonition and it really helps against Killers with no Terror Radius. That's the only reason I equipped it. When it comes to normal Killers though, the 4 metres head start is quite useless. If Premonition triggered within 40 metres instead of 36, then yeah, it would be much cooler as it could even allow you to leave some unsafe areas unnoticed (it would give you significantly more time to react). If Premonition were to be buffed this way, maybe the bad map design wouldn't matter that much.

    "only 4 minutes"

Really, just answer me, how many hours do you have in this game? On mid-high ranks games usually last 5-7 minutes, or even less, 4 minutes for a hook to respawn is just a broken concept.

    1556h.

Sabotaging all Hooks would take ages (especially if the old Toolbox consumption rate penalty were brought back). If you are sabotaging you can't Gen rush now can you ? By the time you sabotage the last Hook, most of the previously sabotaged ones will only remain broken for like 1-2 minutes. This of course if you 99 all the Hooks. If you don't, you won't even be able to take down half of them before some will have already respawned. In addition, this "1-2 Minute Whole Map Safe Haven strategy" might not even work as you can always get interrupted.

Fighting Spirit- This perk seems fine for the most part, but it shouldn't have to be activated manually, in my opinion.

Self Defence- Good luck sweeping large killers off of their feet. How're you going to do it to Myers? He picks the survivor up off of the ground! I don't think that you should be able to counter mori's, but if you want to waste a perk-slot for a maybe-they-have-a-mori-offering-or-Devour-Hope situation, then you can go for it.

Potent Liberator- I don't know if you've heard, but there's this perk called Mettle of Men..

Planned Assault- Absolutely not. Negating the survivor's ability to ever even get a chance to use a pallet would be OP. I also don't think that a killer should have the ability to permanently block a window. That would make maps like the Game impossible.

Long Lasting Torment- A perk that face-camps for you? Wow, just what we all need.

Momentum- I don't even know about this one. I'm not sure it would be worth it if your generator patrolling is going to be slow asf.

Self-Defence might as well be a kick in the groin.๐Ÿคฃ Since when has this game become realistic anyway ?Sweeping Myers of his feet should be possible. It's not only for the Mori either. ANY STUN (Pallet Stun, Decisive Strike or any other Perk) will give you points in the Survival category as well: For example if you Stun the Killer with Decisive Strike you get those 500 BPS in the Boldness Category AND 25/50/75 % of these 500 points will also be added to the Survival Category; in this case 125 for tier I, 250 for tier II or 375 for tier III.

Fighting Spirit can be activated/ deactivated manually in case the KIller has Enduring or if you want to take the Killer by surprise at a specific time. If he has Enduring this Perk will only get you downed. It's not a powerful perk (high risk- high reward) so you should only be punished because of it once if anything (the first time the Killer cancels the stun thanks to Enduring; from that moment on you'll know not to punch the Killer again during the match๐Ÿ˜€)

I've just seen that Mettle of Men Perk. It's pretty bad: your Aura will get revealed to the Killer and it triggers too often (every 4th hit and everyone can use it). I hate the feeling that I will have to deal with a major drawback because of it. It's better to make it harder to activate the Perk (in case of Potent Liberator- 3 unhooks and it only works once) but it will not have consequences.

I suppose you are a Killer main. How can you not like Planned Assault ?! Especially since most Killers complain about looping. I main Survivor and I wouldn't mind at all if a Perk like Planned Assault were added (too many cocky teammates).

Long Lasting Torment only gives the Survivors less time to react (15 seconds before the hooked survivor reaches the next stage). It's good for pressure.

As far as Momentum is concerned, well, Chases have always been more troublesome than patrolling haven't they ?๐Ÿคฃ

  • @Shad03 said:

I think you read that pic wrong @Robb_Stark

The DEFAULT time for auto repair is 120 seconds for hooks. Saboteur is 150 seconds on tier three.

Now if you are talking about a time the auto repair was longer, well then sure it's a nerf, but then Sabo negates that.

Yes, I meant the default time. It used to be 180 seconds. Now even if you use Saboteur, the Hook won't stay broken for that long (120 seconds without Saboteur and 150 seconds with Saboteur - 30 seconds less than before AND you're using a Perk slot)

  • Made a post that got people talking but a better suggestion than what I suggested for mori balance was an add-on for survivors that prevents being moried.

I suggested a Perk called Self-Defence which works against a Mori (once) but no one has replied ๐Ÿคฃ

This is simply incorrect information. Firstly, you are picking very rare and ultra rare addons. Those are rare exceptions, not the norm. Secondly, those killer perks that help find survivors are situational in when they activate and a lot of the time limited information. Lastly, there are multiple counters to those perks that you are completely ignoring. There's a reason not many people run them.

I have leveled up Myers from P3 Level 1 to P3 Level 50 and I have gotten 11 Scratched Mirrors and 10 Vanity Mirrors. I only grab those when they are in the way since I don't plan to use them anyway (because they are disgusting). When I have leveled up the Pig the same way I have gotten 18 Amanda's Letter. Those Addons are not that rare.

How is Whispers situational? As soon as it lights up you know you have to patrol the area a little bit since there is a Survivor there for sure. It doesn't even have a cooldown or anything and 32 metres is not that big. Imagine what happens if a Nurse (who's main weakness is Stealth) runs this Perk... she will become unstoppable.

Rancor triggers whenever a Generator is completed and unlike Whispers it also pinpoints everyone's location for 3 seconds. It is pretty likely that when one of the 5 Generators pops the Killer is in the area of one of the 4 Survivors, which means the Survivor will get found. I got found this way because the Generator popped when the Killer was near me.

How can you counter Perks like these? How can you counter Killer Instinct ? If you run away as soon as the Legion hits another Survivor while you are within his Terror Radius doesn't mean he isn't aware of your Location. He has already seen you. If he knows which way you went he will catch up pretty fast.

If Whispers and Rancor are "situational" Perks, then why shouldn't Calm Spirit for example, which is also a situational Perk, counter them ?As it is now, Calm Spirit is way more situational than these Perks (it doesn't even do its job perfectly because of the Restraint Addons/Scoring Event). It should also counter Killer Instinct as it doesn't completely deny Feral Frenzy (the Legion can still vault pallets but he won't be able to see the Survivor who actually uses Calm Spirit). Nothing stops Whispers/Rancor/Killer Instinct from triggering while Calm Spirit is a gamble, it's only good against the Doctor.

    This.

While sabo is quite weak currently, it isn't a perk that can ever be made strong. Long ago when Sabo was strong it was heavily abused.

It can be improved. If you get to see the Auras of the Hooks you have a higher chance of guessing to which Hook the Killer will take your teammate to.

If the Hooks remain broken for a maximum of 4 minutes with Saboteur, assuming you 99 all of them, (this should be pretty balanced since you're using a Perk slot, you might get caught while Sabotaging and it is taking a lot of time to 99 all the Hooks) you will be able, at some point, once (it's not worth doing it twice), to complete the sabotage on all the 99'ed hooks and create a safe haven, basically the whole map, for a short time (running from one hook to another takes a lot of time, during which the previously dropped Hooks will have already started to regenerate). The old Toolbox consumption penalty for Sabotage should be brought back though.

You are right, Iron Will isnt stealth. That means I need absolutely nothing to stealth!

Also, it is unrealistic to say that you will spend the entire match unnoticed. That means that:

    A) The Killer is bad because they are chasing the same person/people.

    B) You arent playing stealthily, you are playing immersed.

As I have said before, the game isnt only about chases, but also about stealth. Likewise, the game isnt about full stealth, but also being found. The game doesnt cater to either side because it takes both into consideration, because their intended game is a balance of both.

If you are bad at chases, you will get hooked. Thats why you have 3 chances by default.

Anyway, back to the top. Iron Will is stealth. It helps those who are failing at chases. Stealth is pulling a juke and losing the Killer mid-chase, just as much as not engaging at all.

    I see...

There were a few matches though, when everyone else died and while evading the Killer and using Left Behind, I somehow managed to repair 2 Generators (there were 5 Gens left), find the Hatch and get out ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @White_Owl said:

Stealth is perfectly viable, it's my main playstyle and works very well. The point of being stealthy is that you should know when it's time to change tactic and run.

If you equip 4 Stealth Perks and plan everything extremly carefully but you still don't manage to evade the Killer the whole match because he uses an unavoidable detection Perk/Ability/Addon or the bad map design comes into play, then there's no way Stealth is perfectly viable.

If you rely on Stealth and Survival only, you should be able to completely evade the Killer and escape but in order to balance this, you don't receive as many Bloodpoints/pips as the others.

  • @Blueberry said:

The killer perks to help find survivors aren't really an issue or what's killing stealth at all. The core reason it's weaker is because of poor map design that doesn't promote its viability and how overly strong just pallet looping is.

Whispers, Rancor and any other detection Perks/Addons (Like Class Photo or Amanda's Letter for example) that do not have a counter do play a major role when it comes to finding a Survivor as they reveal your location no matter what you do. Killer Instinct is also disgusting: I injure someone and I get to see everyone within my Terror Radius (it's very similar to Scratched Mirror; oh and then there's the Iridescent Button addon which makes your Terror Radius affect the whole map so that you can see everyone). Perks like Whispers and those who create bubble notifications, as well as Killer Instinct should be countered by Calm Spirit.

Distortion should also be buffed so that certain Aura Perks/Addons (I am referring to those that cannot be avoided, the others are perfectly fine) can be countered (or in case of Scratched Mirror/Class Photo, delayed more).

Sometimes I wait for the Killer to patrol the Generator I plan to work on only to have him return a few seconds later because he had Whispers.

Another example is Bitter Murmur. Your Aura gets revealed for 5 seconds no matter what. 5 seconds is enough for Hillbilly/Nurse to get to your location. (if DIstortion had 5 tokens it would prevent this)

  • @PigNRun said:

I use Iron Will, and that is the only stealth I need. Even without it I still do excellently.

The problem with stealth is that most Survivors dont know how to do it. They think that hiding behind a nearby tree or pallet is enough despite being predictable.

Excellently ? How often do you escape from a Trial completely unseen/unnoticed by the Killer exactly ? If you manage to escape unnoticed half the time (5/10 matches) considering you were not playing on Haddonfield or the Swamp, which are actually the only two good maps for Stealth and also having in mind the fact that the Killer was not being looped the whole match by a single Survivor (if he gets looped the whole time he can't look for others so this does not count) , then you are indeed an excellent Stealth player.

Unfortunately, I manage to escape completely unnoticed in only 1/10 matches or so.

By the way, Iron Will is not Stealth. It involves you getting seen and injured. If you get seen you are not being stealthy.

Are you sure you have to be completely infected (broken state) to use the fountain? I have been able to remove it just fine like that.

Yeah, you're right. I have only played against the Plague a few times. I guess I wasn't close enough to the fountain when I tried to remove it so that's why the option didn't show up.

Saboing has recently received some pretty hefty buffs while slugging has been nerfed.

By the way, if saboing becomes meta, then this means that killers will let you bleed out like they used to 2 years ago. do you really like that playstyle?

This Perk requires a lot of preparation and luck. Plus, the Hooks will only stay broken for 4 minutes. And I mentioned that the old Toolbox consumption rate should be brought back. As long as the Hooks don't stay broken forever it won't become meta. 80% of the people will think it is not worthy of their time.

Cant even remember the last time ive seen whispers tbh

How is that possible ?! I see Whispers, Rancor or Bitter Murmur (one of these 3) in 9/10 of my matches.

It's already cheap after gens are finished.

Uh. But when the gens are finished then the game for the killer is finished too, so what's the point?

He meant that you cannot hide behind a Generator anymore. The only remaining counters are getting within range or going as far away from the downed Survivor as possible so that you may have a chance to hide before the killer reaches you.

  • @George_Soros said:
Yeah I mostly agree (except who the hell uses Premonition???). As I said, my biggest problem with your proposed changes is that it would cause a lot of confusion (unless it affects ALL aura reading/location revealing effects, but then you really do run out of tokens in no time). Why? There are a great number of such effects.
And, you wanted to add other scanning perks, like Whispers. But then why not add Spies from the Shadows, Discordance, Hangman's Trick?
It would be a pretty long perk description ^^

You do not run out of tokens that quickly because once any detection perk triggers Distortion, for the next 10/20/30 seconds you are protected against ALL detection perks/addons/abilities as a whole (except BBQ). One token is enough to protect you for the duration of the cooldown. 30 seconds is quite a long time.

For example, if Whispers triggers the cooldown and Bitter Murmur activates in the meantime, you will only loose 1 token because of Whispers, considering these 10/20/30 seconds aren't over when Bitter Murmur activates. If Bitter Murmur triggers AFTER the cooldown , then you will indeed loose an additional token.
It is also unlikely that a Killer will run more than 1 detection perk anyway.

In the description I stated that "neither your Aura or Location will be shown to the Killer"; by "your Location" I was referring strictly to the position of the Survivor, where his/her body is. Discordance/Tinkerer/a failed skill check are actually showing the Generator a Survivor is interacting with, not the Survivors themselves. Same goes for Thrill of the Hunt which notifies the Killer about the Hex totem a Survivor is interacting with, Hangman's Trick which notifies the Killer about their hook being sabotaged, Spies from the Shadows is also more related to the crows being disturbed than it is to the Survivor's Location.
It kind of makes sense to assume that the bubbles from Rancor, Doctor's Madness/ Legion's power are related strictly to the Survivor's figure/body. Whispers is also related to the position of the Survivor's figure and not to an object/creature that the survivor interacts with.

Many descriptions of the perks are quite unclear so if Distortion ever gets changed this way, all what people have to do is check the Trivia on the official Dead by Daylight Wiki. :chuffed:

Don't forget Nurse's, much more popular and actually much more dangerous than BBQ. BBQ is really just there for the grind. But Distortion works against Scratched Mirror/Vanity Mirror Myers too. (Has anyone tested if it works against Blood Warden's aura reading?)

Btw, the real usefulness of Distortion is that it helps you to learn IF the killer uses any of the above. By the time you run out of tokens, you'll probably know which aura reading perks they use, so you have a much easier time to counter those.

@Robb_Stark , if you'd want to include Rancor, Madness, Killer Instinct, Iron Maiden, it would cause a lot of confusion. The term "aura reading perk" is quite clearly defined, whereas perks and abilities that show you location of survivors are not as uniform. I feel some of it would actually make sense, but then the devs would have to be extremely precise and list all the affected (and unaffected) killer perks, powers, addons, etc. They usually fail when it comes to accurate perk description, so I'm doubtful.

Nurse's can be easily avoided by not healing in the terror radius/ using Premonition against a stealthy Killer

Distortion, as it is now, hardly delays the effects of the Scratched Mirror/Vanity Mirror addons. Firstly, because it only has 3 tokens/each token only lasts 10 seconds and secondly,** if Myers goes for this strategy, he will surely use Whispers as well and he won't leave that area. That being said you will run out of tokens in no time.**

Other than Blood Warden it is not really useful to know what reading perks the killer is using. If he has Bitter Murmur for example, he can definitely come really close to you during those 10 seconds no matter where you run to, especially if it is a Billy or a Nurse. If the Killer is a Freddy and he uses Class Photo, again, you can't do anything about it (at least the buffed version of Distortion would delay it considerably). If the Killer is a Wraith and he uses the All-Seeing addon, again there's not much you can do as there will be times when you can't put enough distance between you and him (without getting seen directly) so as to prevent the addon from activating and the current version of Distortion is not good enough against All-Seeing.

As far as the description of the perk goes, I changed it so that it says "Aura or Location" :chuffed:

  • @List_of_concerns said:
My gut tells me that Distortion was created specifically to counter BBQ & Chili and Bitter Murmur. It arrived with Jeff and Legion, but it doesn't counter being detected by Legion's power. I'm guessing it was made to help counter the most common aura detection perks, which are BBQ & Chili and Bitter Murmur. In other words, I think it's working as intended when it comes to soft countering (so few tokens) BBQ & Chili.

That is the issue with Distortion. It helps with BBQ, a perk that had plenty of counterplay already, while all the other perks that reveal your location for doing Generators or simply if the killer gets close can't be avoided, which is ridiculous.

Distortion doesn't counter Bitter Murmur although this is one of the detection perks that should be completely cancelled by it (unlike other perks/abilities that should only be delayed by Distortion). You will run out of tokens when you need them the most, when the Exit Gates are powered and the killer has NOED, or even sooner if you worked on Generators a lot.

Is it that big of a deal if Distortion counters those detection Killer perks that shouldn't have been in the game in the first place? Using a detection perk to know where every Survivor is, without offering them any possible way to avoid it is even more disgusting than Decisive Strike. At least against DS you can use Enduring, Rancor, play the Doctor with Unnerving Presence if you really want to counter it, but as a Survivor you can't do anything about these wallhacks.
In addition, this buff to Distortion doesn't even completely counter everything as most perks/abilities will just be considerably delayed (except for Rancor and Bitter Murmur which are indeed cancelled completely by it). If a Survivor really wants to avoid/delay such perks they should have this option; it's not like every Survivor would run a perk like Distortion( maybe 1 Survivor every 3 matches or so :chuffed: )

  • @CookieBaws said:

It's already cheap after gens are finished.

I know BBQ is really strong already, but it is not one of the most dangerous detection perks as there are some ways to counter it. However, BBQ is the reason why everyone gets so triggered when somebody suggests a buff to Distortion (as this would encourage camping), so if it were unaffected by this perk no one would have any problem if Distortion were buffed so that it counters the detection perks/abilities that actually offer no counterplay.

  • @Milo said:
    Okay then?
But how does that work on Whispers

As soon as the Survivor who uses Distortion gets within Whispers range (48/40/32 metres of the Killer), a token is consumed and Whispers activation (as well as any other aura/location perk) is prevented for the next 10/20/30 seconds ( Whispers does not light up for the Killer and no actual whispers can be heard), but only against the said Survivor. If the Survivor remains within Whispers range after these 10/20/30 seconds are over, another token is consumed.

If multiple Survivors find themselves within Whispers range and all of them use Distortion, Whispers activation is prevented and every Survivor within range looses 1 token. However, if not all the Survivors within range use Distortion, Whispers triggers and remains active until those who don't run the perk leave the area.

30 seconds is plenty of time for a Killer to leave the area.

  • Lightweight: Your running is light and soft, making your tracks harder to follow.
Scratch Marks stay visible 3/4/5 seconds less than normal. Lightweight is not active during chases and it is also on cooldown for 20 seconds after a chase ends.

This way the killer doesn't have to worry about loosing the survivor in/right after a chase because of it while at the same time it now allows survivors to run away from worked on Generators more safely (they might get seen directly though, which doesn't make this perk OP)

Windows of Opportunity: Remove the cooldown completely.

Left behind: You'll get the job done ... No matter the cost. If you are the last Survivor remaining in the trial, you only need 30/25/20 seconds to fully repair Generators. Leaving a Generator removes all the progress.

If I am spending a perk slot on something as situational as Left Behind it had better be decent. The killer will come to me as soon as I pop that Generator anyway...

What about Technician? That perk has a lot of potential too.

Technician: If you are the last one to touch a Generator, when you leave it, you turn it off, hiding all signs of progression for 5/10/15 seconds.

(The progression on that Generator is hidden for both the Killer and the Survivors; if a Survivor touches the gen, the progression becomes visible again)

  • I would change/buff Distortion as it follows:

    1. Whenever you complete a Generator, you gain one token (something similar to Dark Sense).

    2. Distortion should hide your Aura and your Location. That being said, it now affects Rancor, Doctor's Madness and Whispers.

    3. Change the duration for each tier: tier I - 10 seconds, tier II - 15 seconds, tier III - 20 seconds. This change only helps with Whispers which would otherwise consume tokens way too fast. Also, remove the Scratch Marks part as this would make the perk overpowered.

Note: The Doctor can still hear you screaming, but your location won't get revealed.

  • Bake the locker aura reading into the new Distortion survivor perk as a passive on it and if they use the locker to block an aura reading it won't consume one of their tokens. At least this would make it so it would cost them a perk slot if they really hated aura perks, abilities, etc.

^This. But that is not a buff to Distortion, it's a nerf for the Lockers (for those that do not run the perk). As it is now, Lockers block Auras regardless.

That being said, add the Locker Aura reading to the Distortion perk in order to balance the new Locker mechanic, but still buff Distortion.

  • @Mr_Myers said:
15 seconds really isn't that much. Someone about to get hooked with BBQ? Just crouch. Counter Nurse's? Just crouch. 15 is really not that dangerous at all for what it does

What if the killer is coming your way while you are crouched? You either take a risk by standing up/trying to run away and if he catches you during those 15 seconds he puts you right in the dying state or you stay there, crouched, and allow him to get a free hit but at least you get that speed bonus.

I suppose the duration could be increased to 20 seconds though.^^But not more than that.Survivors crouch quite a lot during a trial.

As I said, this perk does not work with A nurse's calling, Thrill of the Hunt and Tinkerer.
Basically you are not allowed to interact with anything if you want it to trigger.Cleansing/Repairing/Being healed is not really considered crouching. This is another weakness the perk has.

  • @Mercury said:

If it had a condition like Deliverance, most people would see it in a better light.

I totally agree with this one. But whatever the devs are going to do with Decisive Strike, I hope they won't change its effect. This perk is supposed to let you escape from the killer's shoulder once. It's the most satisfactorily part.

Maybe an additional condition in order to make the perk active could be staying in the killer's terror radius while not in a chase for 60 seconds. This is quite a risk to take as some killers can hide their terror radius.

  • Skill Checks occur quite frequently during a trial and we are talking about 4 Survivors. It's very possible to hit all Good Skill Checks but I doubt the same applies for Great ones.I've seen Rank 1 Survivors who were affected by Ruin at least twice per Generator.Plus, this hindrance is permanent (unlike Ruin) and it affects all Skill Checks.

I agree that there might be better ways of slowing down the game though ;)

  • @TiredFluffball said:
Seriously, I don't understand why people still go on about it.

For me, regardless of what Killer I play, Decisive only usually wastes about 15 seconds of my time before the person who hit me with it is already back on my shoulder. And I don't even consider myself a particularly good player.

    Am I missing something here?

I kind of agree with you. Decisive Strike is not that good.It helps when the killer downs you close to the Hatch or at the Exit Gates when they are open.

I have recently gotten it from the Shrine. If I am not the Obsession I rarely have the change to use it, because I need to wiggle to 35% and Hooks are everywhere. If I run to a corner and get downed there I get the chance to use it, but I have nowhere to go.There are no pallets/windows in these areas.

    And then there's Rancor.
And then the Skill Check, which for me is difficult, because it doesn't feel smooth at all( even at 62+ fps, but given that my graphics card is not the best let it be).I believe on consoles it's even harder to hit it.

It feels good to see how you free yourself from the killer's shoulder, but that's about it.

  • Oh, this can also help with leaving Hooks sabotaged at 99%.The Skill check which appears when you sabotage the hook at around 97% is annoying and it usually forces you to complete the sabotage action.

It also makes Stake Out more impactful.

So with that low profile crap make yourself invisible to the killer even though they have met the requirements to get your aura? I don't think so. Sole survivor is fine and I remember not seeing someone with BAC because of it. Aura perks are counterable and quite situational.ย

You don't become "invisible"; the killer can still see you directly. The perk only cancels his detection perks and addons.Given that all those perks/addons basically do the same thing, which is revealing your location and since most killers use only one of those per match, it is a fair trade.
All you have to do is look around. It's not like killers need detection perks to find someone now is it?
Adding such a perk is the simplest way to promote Stealth.

BBQ&Chilly and a Nurse's Calling are fine. They can be countered. But how about the others ?

Bitter Murmur- you are doing your job (fixing a Generator) and the killer gets to see your aura.
What kind of requirement is this ?! Am I supposed not to touch Generators or what ?
This perk is enough to let the killer know which way you are heading.Trying to fake directions is irrelevant. It's as if you were standing still. You get nowhere and most killers expect you to do this and will go in the opposite direction you were running.Anyhow, it reveals your general location which is bad enough.
Not to mention that when the last Generator is completed the killer can see you for 10 seconds not 5.

Rancor- same as above. This despicable perk triggers whenever a generator is completed. And it's even worse as it affects everyone. What if the killer is in the area and someone pops a Generator? My location gets revealed and I can't do anything.Maybe the killer wouldn't have checked behind that rock but now he knows for sure I am there...and he is just a few meters away from it.

Tinkerer- a stronger version of Bitter Murmur. This one tells the killer where I am before finishing the Generator, giving him time to come and catch me off guard eventually (The change I suggested for Technician could counter this)

Whispers- the requirement for this perk to trigger is simply to patrol.Really? The killer just walks around and knows when I am close.Just pay attention to the icon:as soon as it lights up you know the survivor is approximately 32 metres in front of you at the time being.Big deal.

Scratched Mirror- way more powerful than Whispers as this addon reveals auras. You just have to be within 32 metres. This requirement is extremly negligiable. It can be countered by Sole Survivor but only when 2 survivors are dead.At this time it is already too late.

The All-Seeing/Amanda's Letter - a weaker version of Scratched Mirror but still quite effective. The only counter is to wait for someone to die while you are using Sole Survivor.Again, too late.I might be found first. How am I supposed to cyrcle around a prop if the killer can see me through it ?

Class Photo- this one...THIS ONE IS THE MOST BROKEN OF THEM ALL !Whenever the killer is pulling someone into the dream everyone is revealed for I don't know how many seconds. What am I supposed to do?The requirement for this one to trigger is almost nonexistent

Black Box- another broken addon with no counter but my perk does not affect it as it's related to the killer's ability so let it be...

    All those perks/addons don't have a counter/proper counter.

And by the way.Sole survivor does not do anything to help you against BBQ&Chilly.Whether two survivors have been killed or not is irrelevant. The perk does not reveal your aura within 40 metres anyway. When the third survivor dies the perk still triggers before you receive those extra 20 metres from Sole survivor.

Then again...are all those notifications really that crucial for the killer?Their only purpose is to spoil the Stealth aspect of the game and the fun of those who enjoy this kind of playstyle whereas most killers can find survivors without them(although it's a bit more difficult).

Low profile is actually quite balanced you know.Getting exposed whenever you stand back up from crouching for 15 seconds is a considerable drawback as it occurs many times during a trial. All this just to counter some perks that are not even a must...
