Sorry, BHVR are saying Comms don't give a massive advantage???
Yeah it gives them a massive advantage. A massive advantage the game isn't designed for. And at red ranks every other game you play the survivors have that advantage. Since they can't stop people from using discord, they have to give all survivors coms, and then buff killers to be able to deal with it. Otherwise we're gonna keep having the same issue where SWF is overpowered and kind of ruins the game.
-
Honestly, the killer cosmetics kinda suck. I’ve spent a lot of money on video games in the past and would do it with this one too. But Hilbilly? I don’t want to be a park ranger with fireworks on my back. Legion? Wow a different color hoodie. Demo? Chains lmao. Nurse? Another 1800s outfit. Give us cool skins and I’ll pay for them. I think the huntress and oni ones are probably the best, they’re really different and a lot involve gore. Also the hallowed blight ones are cool but everyone has them so no point in paying.

That's the thing, though. It's not your job to make things fair and enjoyable using specific perks. That's the job of the devs. They basically removed old Ruin which allowed killers to either win "by playing fair OR the unfair way" (quite easily at that). Now since old Ruin is gone the devs have actual OPTIONS to make further changes to both sides that may reward good killers in the long run.
OP its my understanding the average skill level on console is significantly lower than that on PC. I mean I'm a rank 1 killer on console too and I don't remember the last time I didn't 3/4k, but I don't see all that many SWF death squads or survivors who know how to loop every tile.
-
They're aware of the issue, they're not going to fix it. Hopefully the new elo system will have this type of survivor only going against the best killers, but unfortunately I don't have faith that elo will be much more accurate than rank. The crux of the problem is that every killer except nurse and spirit rely on survivors making mistakes. Fortunately, there are lots of opportunities for these mistakes to be made.
-
Yes, the help a lot for everyone who doesn't regurlarly DC.
-
Solution: Ebony Mori
-
As far as I'm aware, yes, they do stack.
-
They shouldn't be punished for playing with their friends. The game should be designed in such a way that minimizes the impact of playing with friends in a reasonable way. If survivors want to practice with their friends and come up with strats and stuff, I'm all for that. But the vast majority of SWF don't, and its not in general the reason why they're is so good. Simply put, SWF have an informational advantage that the game is not designed for them to have. The only way to compensate for this is to give all survivors coms and rebalance the game around that.
I would love to hear why the devs are so reluctant to do this and I have never gotten an answer. The main thing I've heard is the commonly repeated statistic that SWF only have a 7% higher escape rate. We all know this is BS because its drastically skewed by rank 15-20 SWF who are legitimately just playing for fun and have no idea what they're doing. There's a reason they rarely release red rank statistics.
-
If they dare touch billy I will make it my life goal to make every game absolutely miserable for every single survivor
-
Learn how to loop and no one will tunnel u baby surv
-
I have said it a million times. The only solution to fixing SWF is to give everyone coms and buff killers accordingly. Devs refuse to do this and idk why.
-
I don't follow any rules beyond those of the game. I don't go out of my way to ruin someone's game, but I try to make the best choice possible to win. That usually means tunneling but not camping. Lets be honest though, it's not like survivors are restricting their gameplay based on the killer's fun. In fact I expect them to do everything they can to win.
-
He is literally one of the most balanced killers. Everything he does has counterplay. If mean at this point we already know they're ruining high level competitive play for money, but if they touch billy its confirmed.

Oh please. It has nothing to do with Ruin. Gens go too fast now so the solution is to tunnel and camp? PLEASE. That gives everyone else time to get those gens done very quickly. Killers always tunneled and camped and they always will.
The importance of tunneling has skyrocketed since the ruin nerf. If you're applying appropriate pressure as killer, 3 survivors do generators literally half as fast as 4 survivors. So getting that first person out of the game is huge. I can tell you personally I've incorporated tunneling into my playstyle much more since the ruin nerf, since it's usually the smartest thing to do. I used to care about that first person's fun, but not so much anymore since devs want to baby survivors so much.
The argument that hooking different people spreads pressure around is just wrong. Regardless of who you hook, they're gonna get unhooked, heal, then do gens. So yeah you want to disrupt survivors on generators and maybe hit them, but when it comes to downing and hooking someone you want to prioritize the person you've already hooked.
Camping, yeah against good survivors it's rarely the right thing to do. But I think a lot more killers are doing it in protest since they know it ruins games for people and they're mad about ruin.
-
I think he needs some form of buff- various streamers have suggested plenty of good changes.
I think for him to be playable in his current state one needs to make use of the fact that he can instadown exposed survivors with his power. This is one of the only advantages he has over huntress. So make your choice, noed, etc.
-
The fix is very easy and is the same fix every other game uses: give everyone coms, and balance around that. But the devs are too lazy to rebalance killer and don't want to have to deal with survivors whining about the buffs, so it's never gonna happen and they're gonna keep insisting coms don't give SWF a massive advantage.
-
I agree with OP. It's not about fun, it's about completing the objective.

Lets see, a lot of the last killers from dlc have been a mix of previous ones.
Thematically the last 2 was generic samurai/weeb demon and now we get a cowboy.
Both last survivors seem written by a somewhat justice warrior attitude, yui falls victim to this particullary.
weeb demon oni is just a hillbilly with a longer cooldown.
cowboy a 1 shot reload huntress.
Are dbd just running out of ideas at this point ?
While normally I despise justice warrior characters in video games, in a game where I'm a killer I don't mind too much 😂
-
Obviously I would prefer to have everything transferred. But I got the game on console and have invested a huge amount of time, and I want more than anything to switch to computer. I would be perfectly happy to buy everything again if I could just not have to grind the tens of millions of bloodpoints. DO YOU HEAR THAT BHVR, LOTS OF FREE MONEY IF YOU GIVE US CROSS PROGRESSION!
-
The point? Because for most (non-toxic) players it ruins the game for everyone when you DC. Survivors most certainly lose, killer probably won't pip. It becomes pointless. So, DC penalties exist to prevent people (like you) who frequently leave from ruining the game for others.

I wanted to get DBD on my switch but my friend told me it was nearly impossible to find games so I didn't. Should I reconsider?
Definitely not impossible. Maybe a bit slower than other platforms. The main thing about switch right now is the average skill level is significantly lower than PC and other consoles, so it's really easy to rank up on both sides. Although that's definitely starting to change.

What rank are you on both sides and how long are your queues?
I was red rank on killer before reset, purple now, queues are instant. I haven't played survivor much since ruin nerf, but I was red rank before that and queues were usually 5 minutes at popular times of day. Probably worse now.
-
Yeah I was gonna say. I almost wonder if the person is intentionally trying to sow discord.
-
No it's very alive, I play all the time. It's usually dead between around 4am-10am PST for me. Might depend on where you live.

These hit post make me so angry lol.
EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT YOU'RE DOING
Stop being whiny and get good.

Keep in mind that basic attack perks work with his power. That in itself is a big advantage over huntress.

Just stop asking for nerfs. Please. It's so annoying and makes you sound entitled.

While I do think a swf group has a HUGE advantage in the game, I don't know what you could actually do to counter it.
People want to be able to play with their friends. While there are some people who are like a military unit with what they're doing, there are some who just are playing with their friends. It just feels like it would cause another set of problems if you start punishing people for playing with people they know...
Ways to counter? Give all lobbies coms, and balance around that. Give killers a progressive buff based on the # of SWF in the lobby. There's lots of different options, they're just not going to do any because of whiny survs.
-
I feel like they're just recycling the old killers and slightly changing mechanics, but changing them in a way that makes the killer weaker. Oni is literally Billy but worse. Deathslinger is literally huntress but worse.
-
This is obviously bait guys. He's saying he's new because devs have emphasized they want to improve the experience for new players.
-
I think most killers don't necessarily think survivors are OP more than they think killers are currently underpowered. The recent nerfs have just made the killer experience horrible, and people are mad. Go back say 6 months or so and it was much more even on both sides.
Killers are asking for nerfs in retaliation for survivors constantly begging for killer nerfs and actually getting them. I think it would be much more effective to just give killers some buffs.

Pretty much this.
There are three kinds of slugging..
- Slugging to build pressure or avoid DS - Fine
- Slugging for the 4k - Boring
- Slugging to let people bleed out - Not ok.
I think most people agree the first option is ok. The second is debatable depending on who you ask. The third should be bannable imo
I get why killers slugged for the 4k before because the hatch was completely survivor sided but with the new EGC being heavily killer sided and killer being able to close the hatch I don’t think it’s needed anymore. Its just really boring. If the killer sees the other survivor as they slug one its ok but when they go on a full 4 minute hunt looking for a blendette in the cornfields I’m really not surprised that so many people disconnected.
This forum would have you believe devs hate killers and love survivors and yet this is still in the game.
First of all, killers objective is to kill all 4 survivors. It is 100% okay to slug for 4k if the killer is so inclined.
And are you really that entitled that you think someone making you wait 4 minutes should be bannable? Sure its a dick move, and the killer loses points for it. But its 4 minutes. Grow up.
-
They would make sooo much money if they did. I bet at least half the playerbase would buy the game again on a different system.
-
Trust me, if you disconnect frequently everyone is glad you're gone.
-
The Brute
-
It's interesting because the meta is changing to find new ways to slow the game without old ruin.
In addition to what others have said, I would add infectious fright is very 'meta' right now to help slugging. Discordance and surveillance are popular, with and without ruin. Surge and pop are popular on non-ruin builds.

Are we going to pretend they didn't buff Freddy, Ruin, and Doc. Not to mention BL and instaheal nerfs. Sorry you're not getting easy 4ks little buddy, must be the game imbalance. I'll start a petition for all us neglected killers!
The fact you think they buffed ruin tells us all we need to know about your biases
-
Switch is just really poor hardware. Even games like skyrim and doom that came out quite a while ago have to tone things down alot. But the advantage is portability and price.
-
What are you talking about? Every serious online game has much, much more severe DC penalties. In CSGO you DC once you're banned for half an hour, 4 DCs and you're banned for a week. League of legends does shorter bans more on the scale of DBD (but still longer), but you lose an increasing number of rank points and can get permabanned if you leave enough. Every. Single. Ranked. Online. Game. Has. This. System.
Stop whining, stop thinking its your right to ruin the match for other people without being penalized. People like you are why I'm glad this system was implemented.
-
Before ruin nerf I tried not to tunnel because 'ethics'.
Now I do it whenever it's the best move because I'm pissed. That said, there are a lot of times where it isn't the best move.
-
I've always hated arguments like this. No one cares that you can't afford better internet, and no one is shaming you. But here are the facts:
(1) When you DC you ruin the game for everyone else.
(2) You're not taking the necessary steps to stop DCing.
Your ability to play the game while being unwilling to invest in the necessary internet/hardware isn't worth everyone else's fun and rank. Just stop.

If its licensed its gotta be pinhead right? Can't think of any other chain killers

There’s already a target on every key holder. Also, gen rushes isn’t worse off than it already was. I’ve literally applied so much pressure in games that I’ve got 3+ hooks before a single gen is done. Then I get large maps where I get 1 hook and 2 gens are done but I still beat the game. PWYF is an amazing perk.
I honestly thought it would be a lot worse without ruin, although it's definitely different. I usually at least 3k against red rank solo q but where it seems to really hurt is red rank swf. Haven't had a good game against a coordinated team in a while.

From my experience in these forums, announcing what you main nearly nullifies your argument as soon as you oppose your main side.
This isn’t a “hard” counter towards keys. Survivors have plenty of “hard” counters to killer tactics/perks. Allowing a killer the information to know who has a key and if it’s been swapped is minor in comparison.
As mentioned above, survivors can literally equip themselves with appropriate perks if they fear tunneling. Most keyholders do that anyways. The game needs to stop catering only to one-side and start implementing other informational assistance towards killers, not just in the form of perks, speed boosts, etc. A key is a huge, huge advantage to a strong team or even a mediocre team against a mediocre killer. Bringing a key, literally, promotes tunneling because it’s hard for killers to keep track of that person. This might promote a better strategic gameplay for killers so they can focus on overall play rather than eliminating that one survivor first.
[Edit]
It will also increase risk of carrying a key so they don’t need to nerf keys.
Okay, as killer, as soon as you know a person has a key why would you not kill them? There's literally no good reason not to. Especially if they're SWF, they can end the game as soon as hatch spawns. That's why they make the keys look so discrete- to work they need to be a stealth play. And honestly, there's lots of ways killers need to be buffed but a change like this wouldn't really help in the scheme of things. It would just give survs another reason to ask for a mori nerf.
The issue with killers rn isn't lack of information. There are perk combos to know where survivors are, what generators are being worked on, how many people are working on each generator. That's really all you need unless BHVR wants to actively promote tunneling. The issue is the game is kind of stacked against them- if survivors don't make mistakes, killer loses. And now that it's easier to genrush the survivors have more leeway for mistakes. But giving info about keys isn't gonna fix that, it's just gonna put a target on whoever has the key.

I have no bias. I’m an open-minded individual that would rather have a counter to a counter to a counter for gameplay.
You assumed the only reason for having this information was for tunneling. You never stated you opposed the information that survivors are handed. Yes, I made the assumption, a logical one at that.
Giving the killer this information is not solely promoting tunneling. It allows the killer to keep track of who brought a key. When I see a survivor with a key, I don’t avoid and target only that survivor. But it’s very hard to keep track of who has a key, especially when the team might coordinate clothing and characters. Giving this information let’s a killer know if the key is still active in play or if it’s swapped hands. That is only fair. It makes no sense from a logical standpoint that survivors can communicate cross-map without a communication device yet are given a plethora of information to locate a killer, chests, totems, exits, and each other.
Giving a killer information to keep track of where a key is isn’t simply encouraging tunneling, if anything it would actually allow the killer to focus elsewhere since they know where/who has the key. You think on the negative of this information when it can have a positive impact. Survivors with keys are tunneled because a killer cannot track the key so the easiest way to do so is to get rid of the person with it, via tunneling.
I'm killer main and as soon as I know someone has a key I make sure they're dead before hatch spawns. I'm all for nerfing survivors but this doesn't seem fair and basically hard counters keys. Personally I like the game-changing mori/key dynamic.
-
They do play but have you watched them? Even the 'good' ones kinda suck. It's like that in a lot of multiplayer games but usually they listen to their best players about the direction the game needs to go. Instead, BHVR has decided they want to make their game 'fun' instead of 'competitive', so they actually take their own experiences into account.

I am not complaining. I am stating observations.
I have observed that Hillbilly is too easy to play for his massive reward, especially against other high-tier killers.
Go back and read my opening statements. All of them. In great detail.
Dude are you just really bad?
If you can't figure out how to counter him, watch OhTofu's guide. Yes, Billy is one of the better killers, but he's very balanced. The things 'most' Billys do are pretty easy to counter. If he's revving his chainsaw at every pallet, punish him and loop it again before throwing. If not, force the M1 and he becomes like every other killer. Don't get caught in the open and the average Billy can't get a chainsaw on you.
Given how you're talking I doubt you're anywhere near red ranks. If you are, you should be good enough at mindgames to counter the things better Billys do like flicks and chainsaw feathering. If you can't, you don't deserve to be anywhere near red ranks and need to get good. Stop whining on the forums and trying to ruin the game for everyone else.

I agree in principle to remove the struggle phase: it is only an annoyance which doesn't add anything to the player experience - in fact it just adds to the frustration of the hooked survivor especially if there's a lag spike or a fake unhook which could lead to an abrupt end of the struggling.
This being said, it wouldn't solve the suicide problem at all - players would just run straight to the killer to get downed again (...robbing you of a safe unhook in the process), or even become spiteful to other players.
The only solution to avoid throwing / suicides is a good ranking system, that's what I think.
I really like the idea for the new hidden elo system, but there needs to be a way to have at least a general idea of the skill level you're at/playing against.
-
I just truly don't get it. The obvious (and only) solution is to add coms for everyone and balance around that. Currently, the game is clearly not designed for survivors to be able to communicate, and when they can they're overpowered.
Benefits of adding coms:
-Fewer balance issues
-Average survivors get better faster by learning from others
-People who want to be immersed can just turn them off
Anyone know why BHVR just flat out refuses to consider this possibility? Is it because they know it would be a lot of effort to rebalance, and they don't really care that SWF is OP in red ranks?
Btw, the 7% SWF win rate increase means nothing because there are plenty of high rank SWF who are just playing with their friends for fun. But I bet if you look at red rank SWF the win rate increase is much, much higher.
