  • Nurse and Blight, because playing them makes me nauseous (I can't even watch other people play these characters). I'll also never play Houndmaster or Singularity because they look like they'd be painful to play on controller. Singu's power is also pretty complex and I don't like Killers with complicated or mechanically difficult powers.

Ditto for Pinhead. I played one game with that guy, didn't land a single chain and got zero passive chain hunt value, because the Survivors kept solving his stupid Rubik's cube. Horrible Killer.

Oh, and I'll never play Ghostie. I still haven't recovered from the trauma of facing this Killer in every other trial back when I first started playing at rock bottom MMR. Easily one of the most infuriating Killers in the game for me.

On the Survivor side, I'll never play Jonah because his Guy Fieri fashion sense is not my vibe at all. Or Felix, because I hate suits (The raindeer antlers are cute though, so I make an exception to this rule at Christmas time). And I'll never, ever play Feng without a equipping Iron Will.

That part at the bottom there:

My skill is not improving and I've plateaued, yet the game continues to get more difficult for me.

That's how it feels for Killers too after a while. "I can't improve as my favorite Killer anymore, I have plateaued, yet the game continues to become more difficult. Time for a new Main, I guess…"

I hear you. My main is Legion and their rubber knives literally buff Survivors if they bring certain perks! I'll keep playing them anyway since they're so fun.

But I won't lie, if I'm having a rough time then I'll definitely be switching to Billy for a few games.

  • I'm really looking forward to trying out the new buffs but yeah, I'm already expecting a backlash. Especially since I don't think there's been much opportunity for a lot of Survivors to give much feedback, since the new Killer (understandably) dominated most of the attention for the PTB.

That said, they really do need a bit of help, especially with the new deep wound nerfs. I do think maybe the buffs might have gone a little too far, particularaly with the power cooldown. Because they now have a bit of anti-loop with the reduced fatigue cooldown, I think scratched ruler has suddenly become one of their best add-ons. But surely it's a good thing that Legion now have a bit more skill expression in learning what loops you can cancel your power at and secure downs? One common complaint is that Legion is "too easy to play" to justify buffing. At least that will be less true if their power has a learning curve.

I guess we'll see if Survivors prefer a chase orientated Legion over the grindy, bring the game to a halt with Thana/Ruin/Dying Light kind of Legion. I'm personally a chase style Legion, even though it's not currently an optimal way to play them, so this update suits my playstyle really well. But even with the buffs, they will still be pretty weak against staying injured, pre-running and splitting the gens, which will probably remain the best way to counter their power. So I'm not sure the buffs will make a huge difference besides making them a lot more fun to play for us Legion mains (I'm not being negative here. There's nothing wrong with making them more enjoyable to play as).

I'm anticipating BHVR reverting some of the buffs if players do complain, so I'm just going to enjoy them while they last.

  • I would say it means more to have a P100 Killer than it does to have a P100 Survivor. Just because the equivalent amount of time invested into a single Killer is likely to be more fruitful that playing enough to get a Survivor up to P100. There's more that Survivors have to learn before they "get good" at the role, imho.

I've earned the majority of my Blood points with Legion because they're a BP earning machine. And since I've spent most of the BP I've earned elsewhere, I would definitely have a P100 Legion by now. Does this make me an "expert" Legion? No, absolutely not. I've watched Twitch streamer Legion mains play and they are frankly in a different league to me. But do I think I'm better than a jack of all trades Killer player that plays Legion only occasionally? Probably. I certainly know how to apply pressure better than most streamers that I've watched.

Only BHVR really know if P100 Killers / Survivors perform better on average than lower prestige players. But I think these players are still likely to be better than the average DBD player.

  • I enjoy looping in 2V8 because there are lots of strong loops on the map in that mode (well, at least until the other Killer comes along to spoil the fun and double team you). Pallets can also be rebuilt and a lot of the Killers tended to be less experienced, so I felt like a looping pro at times.

But in the regular game, not so much… I feel like most maps are calibrated so that very skilled and experienced Survivors can't loop the Killer forever. Fair enough, I guess. But those of us less able to get much from the resources on the map are lucky to last more than 20 seconds.

I find memorisation to be boring and my brain refuses to learn even the fundamentals of looping. I don't like Windows of Opportunity and I don't have the time nor the inclination to watch hours and hours of YouTube tutorials to try and improve. I also don't learn very well that way. I learn by doing. I wish BHVR would add a custom mode for Survivors to practice in without the stress and pressure of a real game. One that would let me explore the maps at leisure so I could "waste" time figuring out how each loop works for myself, while the bots are slamming gens. Even something with just the tutorial Trapper bot would do, like the Survive with bots mode from the tutorial but with every map made available.

I much prefer stealth to looping, tbh. But that playstyle has taken a significant nerf, with the less foggy maps and the Distortion nerf meaning that more Killers tend to run aura perks now.

The Survivor side of the game is gradually becoming less and less fun for me as more and more anti-loop Killers get added and others get buffs. My skill is not improving and I've plateaued, yet the game continues to get more difficult for me.

  • I can't remember my full build but I did get Furtive Chase and BBQ & Chilli on my Legion once.

I personally didn't know about this combo, but it's really good! I was able to sneak up on Survivors fairly often and I got quite a bit of value during the trial. I recommend giving this combo a try if you haven't already.

  • first main: Dwight and Myers

    current main: Meg and Legion

fav map: I can't decide between Toba Landing and Nostromo

fav perk: Sprint Burst / Lightborn (Lucky Star, Fire Up and Surge are close seconds, though)

fav item: Don't really care for items. Maybe the Flashlight that projects a cute lil' ghost?

    fav chapter: Alien

how many p100s?: 0 but I do plan to P100 my two mains. Legion is currently P69 and Meg is P39

hours: 1800 (1300 on PC, 500 on Switch)

  • Iron Grasp and Lightborn never leave my loadouts (Agitation is also a solid choice). Coupled with Fire Up, you can sometimes fool them into repeatedly going for beamer saves, since they'll keep thinking they just got the timing wrong. Bully squads will often never touch a gen, but there's usually a Solo Q player with them doing gens away from the action, so you'll still likely get some Fire Up value. In my experience, lots of Survivors will keep trying to blind you anyway (and that never stops being funny to me).

Honestly, my games have been super chill since I put these perks on and I personally don't mind losing to more "typical" Survivors because I wasted two perk slots on perks that never come into play.

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about head-on but at least it's an exhaustion perk, so they can't really spam it. I've faced so many bully squads by this point that I rarely let them get to me anymore (and the perks help a lot too). That's kinda how I deal with them, by not feeling anything.

  • @Chiky said:

No screaming does, It now makes screaming useless unless you're playing with headphones...

Is this true of all screaming perks? If so, that's every single perk that makes Survivors scream utterly useless to me (since I don't play with head phones). It would also make these perks useless to anyone who is hard of hearing. Why on earth would they do this?

  • I'm having more rough games than fun ones at the moment. But to be honest, some of that might be down to my own personal Survivor role burnout. I do find my games tend to go a little better if I play later at night and I find myself an unofficial member of a SWF, which I think says a lot for the state of Solo Q.

That said, I don't think Solo Q is the hell many players say it is. I don't personally have much negative to say about my teammates. It's more so that Killers are often using tactics and strategies that Solo Q cannot effectively counter. The usual things like stacking slowdown on very strong Killers, proxying hooks and hard tunnelling, but also newer developments like 4 man slugging and using plaything / penti builds.

I also think a lot of Killers have been buffed up to combat the advantages that playing in a SWFs on comms can bring and Solo Q has become the collateral damage in that particular arms race. I'm just getting so tired of it all that I play more Killer than Survivor these days.

  • I was wondering this as well. They might change it so that burning one will make each Survivor spawn in separately.

But if that's the plan, then get ready to see every SWF burn a shroud in pretty much every game. I hope not, because if they do it will have totally failed to solve the problem with Survivor spawns (and be yet another way for SWFs to break the game's balancing).

  • I feel like I might be in a minority here but I kinda like the Swamp maps.

They are among the few that are actually good for trapper. They also make playing stealthy as Survivor a bit more viable than on most other maps. Do they make tracking a little bit more tricky and do they spawn nasty 3 gens? Sure, but other than that I don't really understand the hate that these maps get from a lot of players.

  • I could write a whole bunch of things here that wouldn't really be true. Ultimately I have to admit to myself that I'm too competitive to consider anything other than a 3K as Killer (2K on Switch) and a personal escape as Survivor as a "win".

Those are (as far as we know) the "official" win conditions as defined by the MMR system. But I'm not a win at any cost kind of person. I'd rather lose with style than win a cheesy victory.

  • DBD's experiencing a bit of a licensed content drought for me recently. I liked the Castlevania chapter because we finally got a Vampire and I'll probably get The Ghoul because he looks fun to play. But I wouldn't say I'm really a Castlevania fan, having played only a handful of the 8 and 16 bit titles. And I know absolutely nothing about Tokyo Ghoul. The last chapter that got me hyped was Chucky.

The FNAF games have never appealed to me either. I've always assumed they were mostly aimed at a younger teen audience and I was way beyond my teens by that point. Even the Junji Ito skins they've released are for Killers I don't play. So for me, the drought continues.

I tend to play less often when a new Killer is released, because it gets tiresome facing the same Killer every game. If FNAF lives up to the hype, that might turn out to be quite a lengthy break from the game (or at least from playing the Survivor role, anyway).

  • I think there's something to be said for starting players off at a much lower rank if they're playing a mechanically tricky Killer for the first time.

I played my first (and possibly last) Cenobite game not so long ago and I couldn't do anything with his special attack. I didn't even get passive value from the box because a Survivor would solve it before a chain hunt started. It was a very frustrating experience. I get the impression that he's very difficult for controller players, which didn't help matters much.

I get why more experienced Killers are rarely matched with new players when they try out a new Killer, but surely there should be a bit more leeway if the Killer has a reputation for being challenging to learn.

  • Surprisingly, most of my games have been incredibly chill so far (but perhaps not so chill for the Killers because my lobbies are chock full of TTV SWFs right now). Despite this, the Killers I've had haven't played "sweaty" at all. Not one has returned to hook to tunnel or proxy camp or any of the usual stuff, so I've escaped quite a bit.

Of course my luck will change and I'll no doubt have my fair share of sweaty trials. Such is the way of all things DBD. Chaos Shuffle is my favourite modifier though, so I'm more inclined to take the rough with the smooth regardless of how the trials go.

Hey, don't forget about the Lucky Star enjoyers too! There's tens of us!

I <3 Lucky Star, so I'm pretty much always getting in and out of lockers. I've been known to enjoy a good locker Dwight build every now and then too.

And If I had a penny for how often I find some poor clueless soul trying to hide from my Legion's Killer Instinct inside a locker, I think I'd be able to buy myself at least one legendary cosmetic by now.

  • I hate what BHVR did to this perk. It's genuinely useless now (unless you're in a SWF and want to let your buddies know what aura perks the Killer has, I guess).

Since you won't be able to recharge the perk if you're no good in chase, it will be difficult for you to get much value. And if you are good in chase, then surely you'd want the Killer to see your aura so they chase you instead of somebody else. Good loopers shouldn't run this perk at all imo.

It's a dead perk. I think you'd be better off running chase perks to help in chase or if you want to evade, run perks that let you know where the Killer is so you can be elsewhere.

  • I've definitely experienced a smurf squad before myself. It's a bit surreal to see a default Meg scrape her face against the walls while looping shack as tightly as possible like a pro. Obviously, I got dunked on in the match.

In the end, I think they all had no more than one perk each and I think some had none at all. I think I said to them in chat that they didn't play like beginners but I got no response.

  • Me too. Survivor BP needed a boost across the board imo and hopefully the distribution of points scored will look a bit more balanced after the update.

Under the present system, it's a little sad to see barely any BP scored in the Survival category in the majority of my Survivor games, since you don't really score much of anything unless you actually escape the trial. But it might be that the Boldness category will look a bit more empty, I guess. They can always make adjustments in future if that turns out to be the case (and these seem like fair suggestions to me).

  • I think a DBD 2 would need to be radically different to justify its existence. I think they would need to retire a lot of core DBD staples, like hooks, camping, slugging and tunnelling completely to come up with a new yet somewhat familiar game play loop. Easier said than done.

I also think one of the strengths of DBD (and the reason why so many other competitors have failed) is because it's established on a wide variety of older platforms and hardware configurations. A new, shinier, modern DBD2 wouldn't necessarily be able to count on its current user base being day 1 supports of a new game, especially not if a majority of them are happy with the current version of DBD. I don't play Overwatch, but I do know a lot of Overwatch fans viewed the second game as a cynical and unnecessary "upgrade".

Besides, I don't think there needs to be a new game so long as the player base is still active. After all, there are much older (and jankier) games out there that still have fairly active player bases (Star Trek Online, for example).

At least when the killers your talking about ragequit, they get a penalty so they can't keep doing it. It's odd that you say "going next" ruins your experience, but you want LESS penalty for ppl who do it.

The point I'm making is that there are two ways of trying to "go next". The first way is to eat a DC penalty and give everyone a bot to play with. The second way is to be like this Meg and try to die on first hook and follow the Killer around to point at hooks all game. Or throw all the pallets, spam vaults / get AFK crows to force the Killer to do something to stop those annoying notification explosions and generally just be a huge pain to everybody. Of these examples of Survivors "going next", the latter is clearly worse than a DC.

Who knows why this Meg wanted to go next. There will always be players that want out and they will probably continue to find ways of doing so even after BHVR have implemented their new prevention system. So at the very least, if players can choose to bot out without being hit by such a harsh, quickly escalating DC penalty, the match can still continue for the rest of the players.

Killers who want to avoid the penalty don't DC, but they might still AFK in the basement. That behaviour is arguably not much better than the Meg in this game.

  • People in this thread are talking like it's only Survivors that "go next". A fair chunk of my Survivor "escapes" are from Killers that DC because they're not doing so well in the match. This is just as dissatisfying to experience, if not even more so, because it's so rare to be in a Survivor trial where things are going well for a change. Face it, this happens on both sides and I think the reason is an MMR system that barely works for anyone at this point.

I don't know what they can do to fix it, but it's not uncommon to have multiple hopeless games in a row with the current system and I think it's contributing to a lot of player frustration and the go next phenomenon. One of the things that struck me about 2V8 was the huge diversity of skill levels in every match. Some trails would have very skilled players in them and others would have players that were… well, let's just say they were less skilled and leave it at that. But it made for a lot of variety in the games. I wasn't around for the old emblem based rank system, but I get the impression that 2V8 is a lot like that older system. I don't know, maybe BHVR should try to bring a little bit more of that back into the match making?

That said, it would be harder to replicate such variety for 1v4, since it's much easier to target weaker Survivors with camping and tunnelling and dump them out of the game early. By forcing an early 3v1, the trial becomes a lost cause and I think a lot of players at this point are past playing for hatch, which is little more than a lucky consolation prize to a lot of players.

This will be a controversial opinion, I know. But I also think the DC penalty is overly harsh for such a casual game. It should max out at a little over the average duration of a game, imo. This would encourage players who want to "go next" to DC and at least give everyone else a bot to play with, instead of ruining the experience entirely for 4 other people. Of course, if this isn't a long enough time out, there's a risk that players will begin to routinely DC over every little thing, which wouldn't be any kind of solution either. But it might still be better than the present situation. I also think there should be a timer added to the DC process (one that gives you 10 seconds to back out of DCing and cool down after a moment of rage).

  • You guys are talking about that recent Hens video, huh?

My view, syringes are not a problem. Using a med kit for self healing is already pretty weak at 24 seconds, regardless of the rarity. So if equipping an Iri add-on is the only way for med kits to be somewhat useful as self healing items, I think this is fair.

Besides, what's the point of putting strong add-ons in the bloodweb in the first place if they're not going to give you more value than the brown/yellow/green ones? There has to be some reward to dumping so much BP into a Survivor's bloodweb. Let's not forget it has a one time use as well (unlike a Killer's Iri add-on, which is always in play for the entire trial).

I'm honestly getting tired of streamers who play this game professionally potentially getting things nerfed for the rest of us because they can get "insane value" out of them. Trust me, if I made a similar pop a syringe in chase video, I promise you the video would consist of me wasting a whole bunch of syringes. Your average Survivor is not likely to get in chase value from a syringe. For most Survivors, it saves a bit of time because you can on sit a gen instead of spending that time healing ONCE per trial. Not a huge deal in my opinion.

Full disclosure, I may be slightly more of a Survivor main but a nerf to syringes wouldn't personally affect me. I've probably got around 100+ syringes on my main since I don't use items very often. I don't want to be put in a bad mood if the Killer brings Franklin's, so this opinion is coming from someone who doesn't even bring strong items to a trial (syringes or otherwise).

I'd love for the Hello Zepp theme to be her chase music. I don't think it would take much work to adapt it, since it even builds up like the different layers of a DBD terror radius.

  • When I first started playing, I certainly did feel a degree of "Killer anxiety". But this was mostly down to the bully squads that purposefully hang out at low MMR in order to torture the new Killer players.

These days, however, it's the more relaxing role for me. I just stick on Iron Grasp and Lightborn to be ready for the Flashy saving sabo squads and I'm chilling. I don't really care too much if I lose a few Killer trials because I know I can switch characters for some variety in my games and I'll typically get at least a couple of wins during a play session.

That said, I would not touch Killer if I'm playing on my Nintendo Switch. The kinds of Survivors I go up against on a regular basis would eat me for breakfast on that platform. Trapper is my only viable Killer on Switch because catching Survivors in your traps is the same on any platform. It's so bad, I consider a 2K a "win" on Switch. I feel like I've totally ruined the Killer experience for myself by linking cross-progression to my Switch account. So yeah, it's definitely a stressful time playing Killer on Switch.

I will admit I did experience quite a bit of anxiety when playing 2V8 with another Killer. Especially if I played poorly and couldn't get any pressure or cages, I felt like I'd let the other player down. But it might not have felt so bad if they hadn't been waiting so long in a queue to play.

I guess part of what I like about Killer and Solo Q Survivor is that they are primarily solo experiences. You don't have to worry so much about letting others down because you're mostly playing for yourself and self reliance becomes more the focus of the game play loop.

I just hope they remove chat completely because there’s zero reason for it unless it’s for toxicity. You don’t need to tell someone else anything. The game is a survival game you didn’t get a kill or survive that’s on you, if you feel like someone is cheating use the report feature given to you. Since the chat isn’t even accessible while you play it shouldn’t even exist in lobby. Probably the most useless feature ever that promotes toxicity. Luckily, I am a console player so any pc players leaving toxic comments I won’t see lol. Oh well

I feel the same way. Some people want to add voice chat, but I don't even want an end game text chat feature. I usually keep mine permanently closed. The tiny number of wholesome interactions I've had just aren't worth the exposure to all those who are salty for whatever reason or to the sore winners that feel a need to leave a "GG EZ".

Personally, I think there should only be chat functionality for players who are friends with each other.

  • YES!

Goodbye Trapper and Skull Merchant, we're heading for the heady heights of the bottom of C tier, folks!

Joking aside, I'm glad to see Legion finally get some buffs. They've had a few indirect but minor nerfs over the last year or so, like the recent deep wound change, the anti 3 gen system and MFT being reworked to be activated by their power.

Some of these buffs go further than I personally would, especially the fatigue cool down and movement speed increase. Overall, I think the changes should give them more effectiveness in chase, more opportunities to get the full value of their power and will also (hopefully) mean that players can move away from the grindy, tedious slowdown playstyle that Survivors generally hate to go up against. That said, nothing here makes them into a new Killer or anything, so that aspect of their power will probably always be a part of playing them effectively.

The Feral Frenzy cool down reduction is especially huge for newer players (and those of us playing on older platforms) who tend to be more susceptible to whiffing due to 360s and FOV techs. I don't play Legion (or Killer in general) much on the Switch, but when I do I often use the Scratched Ruler add-on. So seeing that become base-kit is a very nice change.

Anyway, I'm excitied to try them out on the next PTB. I don't normally participate because it takes ages to download anything with my Internet, but I think I will this time so I can give some feedback.

  • I really dislike facing Pinhead. I'm a bit of a Plaything hater as well, so not too excited to be facing that particular perk more often when it enters the pool of general perks.

That said, I dedcided to bite the bullet and finally buy him anyway. He is a horror icon after all and he belongs in the game. I don't think I'll play him much, but at least I get his neat little evil Rubik's cube charm.

I hate to see licenses leave DBD and I'm sure they'll be exploring whatever possibilities there may be to get him back someday.

  • p69legion.jpg

Got my Legion to P69! Think I'll leave them there for a while and focus on prestiging Meg for a bit instead (She's only at P35, so needs to catch up).

Otherwise, I think I might take a short break. I'll see how my games go, but I dipped my toe back into 1V4 yesterday and got a Houndmaster and a Spirit with Franklin's, so I can't say I'm too enthusiastic to get back into all that any time soon.

But If I do play, I'll probably just play Killer tbh. I've been playing a lot of 2V8 Survivor, after all. After a rough start with the bots, I enjoyed playing the mode a lot it in the end.

  • It's probably slightly more Survivor sided on average. But that said, Killers have won the last 5 of my 2V8 games and hardly anyone escaped. Perhaps because it's the last day, but my games have been way more stressful than 1V4.

I kinda think the mode has to remain Survivor sided if it's going to have a future. How else would you convince Survivors to queue up for a trial where they might face any combination of buffed up top tier Killers?

When you only escape about as much as you do in the regular mode, 2V8 loses a lot of its appeal and you start to think you may as well be playing 1V4.

  • Oh, let me add one!

    8. Open every chest you see in the hope of finding a beamer instead of another brown toolbox.

Honestly though, most people see this as a chill, no pressure, play however you want to mode. Please can we keep it that way?

  • Thalita is easily DBD's number 1 beauty queen. It's not even a competition.

Also, I don't think Meg is bad looking. If she didn't have that "I can smell a fart and I know it was you" expression on her face all the time, I'm sure she would rank higher.

  • @buggybug said:

Yeah that is real annoying. At the same time too it also is the question of why on earth a person would leave their item by a window/pallet instead of dropping it anywhere else. Do not get me started also on why bvhr puts gens/lockers by window vaults causing you to interact with them instead of the window.

I have a tendency to mash the vault button way before I need to, so I often end up trying to do a gen or a totem while in chase as well (especially that totem on RPD under the desk by the little office window. I make cleansing it the first thing I do on that map).

Lockers I understand because of interactions with certain perks, but it should be impossible to interact with totems & gens while running (especially since you can't tap a gen in chase anymore). I know it's partially my own fault for being impatient, but it's still very annoying.

My DBD name has been "Scoops Robin for DBD" since the removal of Stranger Things was announced, so great to see a fellow Robin fan still holding out hope.

Other than Steve, she's my favourite character in the show and I loved seeing their friendship develop. The Stranger Things chapter won't be complete to me until they've added Robin (I know a lot of people would like to see Eddie enter the Fog as well. It would be so good to see them both in a future chapter).

  • I have different builds for most Killers (although Iron Grasp and Lightborn feature in most), so I'll just share the one for my main. On Legion I use Surge, Enduring, Fire Up and either Lightborn or Iron Grasp (or Mad Grit if just playing for fun). I find I'm always playing catch up as Legion, so these perks help me to make a mid/late game comeback by defending a gen cluster or 3 gen. Doesn't always work, but losing 2 gens after the first chase is a typical Legion main experience for me.

For Survivor I like to run lots of theme / meme builds to keep things interesting. But my main "regular" Solo Q build consists of Self-Care, Botany Knowledge and Sprintburst. The final perk slot is either something to help with a challenge or my favourite perk from that specific Survivor. And sorry to be that guy, but if I'm playing Steve I HAVE to run Scene Partner in this perk slot.

Resilience and Vigil are common choices as well, but right now I'm really enjoying running Lucky Star in this slot. Just so much value for one perk slot. With it you can see where a chase is happening, if someone is going for a save, what gens are being worked on (handy for breaking a 3 gen), easily find a nearby gen on an indoor map and see which exit gate is being opened. The 30 seconds of Iron Will and no blood pools allows you to find somewhere safe to get healed up with self-care / botany (or you can just stay in the locker if the Killer is still nearby). Lucky Star has saved my bacon so many times and is the best Solo Q aura perk, imho.

  • If I've got to pick one then I'm going with OTR. Mostly because it has other benefits like aura hiding / iron will effect and I know I'm just going to miss the DS skill check anyway.

If I do run OTR, I only run it in a full anti-tunnel build (Wicked + OTR + MFT + Sprintburst) and if games are so bad I have to run anti-tunnel, I'm probably going to log off soon because it means I'm getting tunnelled often and I'm not having a good time. I'd rather not be running either of these perks.

  • MMR barely exists in this game and so long as getting you (or your opponent) into a game is the main priority, it never will. Arguably this is the way it should be because as 2V8 demonstrates, nobody wants to wait more than 10 minutes to play DBD.

I honestly don't think it does much unless you've just installed the game or you've queued up as a 4 man. I suppose it's possible to "boost" yourself as Killer if you bring 4 slowdowns (or perks that disproportionally destroy Solo Q) and as Survivor if you queue with a 3 man that stacked the best items & add-ons with a game plan to slam gens (or they are much better at the game than you are and can save you often / occupy the Killer). In these cases you'll win more often than you "should", but for the rest of us I think MMR is just a roll of the dice. To speed up someone else's queue time, you'll get backfilled into lobbies against opponents you shouldn't be matched with at least as often as you'll get reasonable matches.

I think there are essentially only 2 match-making tiers: A testing bracket for new players (sometimes even this is ignored) and a huge pool full of everybody else.

This is probably the best of both worlds. I get why they don't want gatekeeping to happen regarding perks, but so many of the most impactful survivor perks rely on teammates being psychic to get value in solo queue. I see little reason that teammates shouldn't be notified when Deliverance or Camaraderie are equipped, for example.

I like this approach as well. There are better ways for the game to inform your teammates that you have certain perks. The game already lets you know if certain perks are in play, like when you get unhooked by someone running We'll Make It. Why not code something similar for Deli? They could also implement things like highlighting lockers for Head On plays if they wanted.

Maybe it would be OK to show perks on the pause screen (I'm not 100% convinced…) but I'm definitely against showing them in the lobby. I honestly don't care what perks my teammates are running. Even if I get a baby David running No Mither because they think it's good, I'm more grumpy at the perk being rubbish than I am at him for running it. Come to think of it, I don't know why there are so many Survivor tome challenges and achievements that force you to throw multiple games just to achieve them. If we want to improve Solo Q, why don't we talk about those?

I think trying to bring Solo up to a SWF on comms level could potentially be a mistake. I worry it would lead to sweatier games overall and I don't think the game was ever designed with that level of co-ordination in mind.

  • You won't get banned because this is not holding the game hostage. That rule applies only if Survivors refuse to touch gens and are only sneaking around / locker hopping to avoid getting crows. But since you were both picking each other up and trying to complete gens, however slowly, you were both attempting to complete your objectives. The Killer should really have hooked instead of slugging, yet they chose to waste their own time and yours by not doing so. Personally, I always hook in situations like this. If a Survivor gets hatch, it's no big deal. We really need to move on from an emblem system and challenges that require a 4K to pip up / complete. It's not healthy.

But yes, it's tedious and frustrating for both sides to be stuck in this kind of game. I hope BHVR are working on making this a thing of the past.

  • If there's nothing by the time the final chapter is released, I'll probably give up hope of ever getting Scoops Ahoy Robin into the game. I doubt we would get anything after the series has concluded but I guess you never know. I think there's slightly more chance if Netflix split the final season into two parts, like they often do for whatever reason. But if we do get a second chapter, I don't think it will be this year.

My suspicions are that BHVR and Netflix have had a pretty bad relationship since the loss of the license but I still hope they're cooking something up together.

  • I hate all the corn maps. If a Survivor runs into the corn then forget it, because I can hardly see them. I also have a lot of difficulty tracking scratch marks on these maps as well.

This might sound crazy, but I actually preferred the old red Borgo map over the new dark one. I feel like I swapped one problem (not being able to track scratch marks or blood pools) for another (hardly being able to see anything). It's not so bad on PC, but on Switch it's so hard to see anything. Hopefully the upcoming brightness settings for console will help with these maps a little bit.

I also dislike Nostromo but not for reasons you might think. I do actually like this as a map, but if I get it while playing on the Switch I won't be happy. It has some serious performance issues.

I don't like getting Dead Dog as Killer, despite its reputation as a Killer-sided map, since I tend not to do well on it for whatever reason. But I do like this map as Survivor, because it has lots of bushes to hide in and that suits my stealthy play style.

  • I'm still in 2 minds about 2V8. It's both the worst and best experience you can have playing DBD. If the Killers are top tier and know how to play their characters or if they're a KWF that sticks together to follow cage spawns around the map, this mode is misery to play. If the Killers are a bit more chill, then it can be enjoyable.

It's still mostly fun so I'm glad to see it extended, but I do worry that the longer it stays around, the more likely it will be that players will optimise the fun out of the mode or that more casual players will drop out by attrition (just like what has happened in 1V4).

  • I don't think it's just FNAF, to be honest. DBD has seen a lot of big, recognisable franchises added to the fog in recent years (Alien, Chucky, D&D, Castlevania, Tomb Raider) but from what the Steam numbers tell us, whenever new players are attracted to the game, they rarely seem to stick around for long. Something must be pushing them away. Obviously, the Steam charts don't tell the whole story because DBD is on many platforms. But they do suggest that player numbers are still around about what they've always been for the last few years now with no real growth.

Some of those numbers might be down to older players playing less than they used to, burning out or just moving on to other games. But some could be new players that find DBD so difficult to get into that they abandon it soon after discovering the game. BHVR probably realise that there are a lot of things about DBD that can be very unwelcoming and frustrating, especially to newer players, and now is probably the best time to address them before the next big franchise is added to the game, yet fails again to grow the player base. I think they're doing all this because they've spotted a pattern and not because FNAF is going to be the biggest thing added to the game so far or anything like that.

tl;dr - BHVR would be addressing these issues regardless of the next big thing to add to the game, because for various reasons previous licenses haven't been enough on their own to retain the new players that they attract.

  • I sure would. Something that makes you scream a lot would be mandatory to run on Steve. But I just want more classes, to be honest. I find the Guide and Medic classes to be pretty dull and never use them outside of a challenge.

There's something to be said for keeping things simple and arcade like, so I understand it if they don't want to add too much to the mode.

  • I've already decided never to touch the down vote button.

I don't see any way it can be beneficial to discussions and I do feel a little less inclined to share my opinion because of it, even though I don't think I write much that would be considered controversial.

  • Weird thing is, you can still complete emblem tome challenges, so the game is still tracking your performance. It could easily be added if they wanted to do so.

The only reason I can think of for not progressing ranks in 2V8 is that maybe they still use emblems / pipping as a part of the match making system and 2V8 would obviously mess that up.

But yeah, I'm playing way more DBD than usual, yet I'm still going to be in Survivor ash rank for a good chunk of the season and that's a tiny bit annoying, but whatever. It's only BP at the end of the day.

  • I voted yes, since new content got pushed back but I wish I'd voted no.

2V8 games are a lot more sweatier today than on previous days.

  • Personally, I would like 2 extra seconds of Frenzy. In other words, for Mischief List to be made base-kit. I hate that Survivors can simply run out my power and I feel like it's a mandatory add-on if you want to have any hope of chaining hits consistently against split up Survivors. You don't really have a power unless the Survivors group up together. Mischief List wouldn't need changing imho, but I guess they could nerf it to 1 second.

I would also like to see Joey's mix-tape give Legion the ability to see pools of blood while in Frenzy. In addition, blood pools should appear in bright red for extra tracking abilities. Currently, there's no good reason to run this add-on other than for the vibes (it sounds great paired with Julie's, Susie's and Fuming mix-tapes, btw).

I know some want to see a shorter cooldown for exiting power and a faster movement speed in fatuigue, but I don't really think Legion should be made into a better 1V1 Killer (at least not as base-kit). I think a majority of Survivors would hate that, just like they hated OG Chucky who was essentially just a 1V1 Legion.

Least controversial would be for Frank's mix-tape to be made base-kit. Its effect is so incredibly weak, especially for a purple add-on. I think Legion mains near universally agree with this change. Frank's Mix-Tape could then be reworked into a vaulting speed add-on, which I think most Legion players would also like to see. Especially since BHVR don't seem to want to allow perks to increase the Legion's Frenzy vaults.

Perks like Bamboozle and Fire Up would buff the actual Frenzy Vault speed itself. This got removed with the addition of Wesker for consistency's sake, as they didn't want Wesker's vault being affected by these perks for fear of it being too strong.

Fire Up does in fact currently increase window Frenzy vaults and has done for a while, although I'm unsure if this an intended effect or not. Undocumented change or just a bug?

Honestly, 2v8 should be extended because of the PTB delay.

Normally, I would say 2 weeks is more than enough 2V8. But with everything being pushed back a few weeks, I think it would be good to extend it a little so long as plenty of people are still playing it.
