There are penalties for camping.
You lose points - play as a killer and check your badges at the end. Standing next to a hook gets you dinged even if you're only there for a second or so. That -3 can mean the difference between iri and gold.
You have to spend your game being bored watching some dangling fish instead of actually playing the game.
If the other survivors come to get the hooked one you have to waste time swatting away the flies.
Mean while you're doing this the other survivors are doing gens, popping boxes, disarming craps and peeing on your hex totems... you know .....actually winning.
You have to listen to them whining in post game chat about how you're a toxic camper
Camping isn't fun and isn't good strategy.....and as you play more games as killer you realize this.

Freddy is an amazing killer right now all thanks to his new rework (proof the devs are capable of good changes to the game).
People tend to complain about him due to these recurring points:
- His lunge is broken
- He has little to no counter play and is too strong with snares
- He takes no skill to play
- His gen regression capabilities are too strong
"His lunge is broken" The reason his lunge seems broken is because of his smaller weapon and killer model size. It is the same lunge as every other killer.
"He has no counter play and is too strong with snares." There is counter play, and would include you making sure you stay awake as much as possible because that is when you suffer from his effects. If you are asleep and in a chase with a snare-using Freddy drop a pallet early to avoid the m2 spam.
"He takes no skill to play" Yes he does, spamming m2 doesn't immediately win the game for him because if a survivor is awake he has to chase like a normal m1 killer with no power. Freddy players have to know for sure when to commit their teleport and constantly use it to fake a teleport. Even then, it still takes quite a bit of skill to play killer especially at higher ranks.
"His gen regression capabilities are too strong" Are they really? If you work together with your team (who is hopefully cooperative enough to wake everyone up) to stay awake then you should not be affected by most of his gen regression penalties. The real gen regression ability is the dream projection (the teleport) combined with pop, that can be annoying but even then that can be worked around by simply working on multiple generators.
What do you think, do you think that Freddy is in a great spot or is "OP PLZ NERF"?
I don't even bother using dream snares. I have far too much fun watching overconfident survivors balk when pallets explode into blood and I slash open their bellies.

The solution is pretty simple: always know where the basement is as a survivor. Then, don't go down in a chase anywhere near it. If a teammate does, you'll have to decide if it's worth the risk or not.
Yup, this. Not like I can drag you there from halfway across the map.
-
I dunno what you're doing wrong but I haven't had that issue. Heck the one attack goes through walls and rocks and stuff. Sometimes you miss sometimes you hit. But without sprint burst or something they're not going to get away just running straight.
-
Alternatively, like The Thing have one of the survivors actually BE the killer but only be detectable for a short time when they go to kill someone and for maybe 10 seconds later. To keep SWF from ruining it... maybe have them switch to a different survivor after each attack/hook scenario.

Most do that to be nice and give you extra bloodpoints.
Dunno about their motivations. Hadn't ever really thought about why they're doing it just that they're waggling their asses at me and if I smack them they get away anyway so why bother.
I have had some survivors inexplicably give up in the end zone and just stand there and let me beat them down. But even that I don't think it's particularly fair. Having some sort of struggle would be better.

different match types would definately lend an additional level to the game.

Tunneling isnt as bad as cordinated swf in this game, its a legitimate strategy survivors that actually try in the higher ranks don't care if killers have fun as long as they win so why should we care in return?
Some of my most challenging matches have been against SWF. There's nothing wrong with it in general. If the survivors start acting like jackasses just to dick with the killer THEN it becomes a problem. But just because Bill, Bob, Sally and Johnny can all talk together and strategize isn't a bad thing.

From a killer's perspective.
Why the hell would I stop chasing an already wounded survivor when I could down them and hook them and move on? That's like a wolf biting a deer and then rather than killing the thing it stops and goes nah I'm gonna go after this perfectly healthy fast running deer instead.
Alternatively, some survivors can be so irritating in their behavior that killing them off as quick as possible is the only way to have a decent game as killer. Explosion spammers, clickers, flashlighting #########, map hole exploiters, and teabaggers get what is coming to them. Piss me off and I don't care how many points I lose I will hook and face camp you until you rage quit.
But I don't do it because it's fun. I could be off actually playing the game and getting more points. So the solution is: don't be a freaking #########.
That said, I am not going to chase some rando to the ends of the map if I have a better alternative and they haven't pissed me off. I'm not going to go around the same car eighty times either. I'm not chasing someone to be a dick. You survivors need to realize that you leave freaking glowing scratch marks, make wounded moaning noises and are on most maps (unlike that Western Town map) are the only other thing moving.
If all I see is one survivor running, leaving scratch marks all over the place exactly what the heck else do you expect me to go after? Sticking you on a hook is literally the goal in front of me.

I've had the opposite experience.
-
Yeah the toxic types piss me off too but I don't think there's all that much that can be done. A lot of it is up to interpretation, which means it's going to vary from one person to the next what pisses them off. Personally I hate flashlights. I'm not looking to get them banned and I know they're game legal and useful to players. But they aggravate me because they take away my agency for a few seconds. Other killers won't get irritated by it and thats their business.
But like spammers? Those ######### who keep jumping over the same pallet over and over or clicking flashlights? Or those idiots who teabag repeatedly or hang out in unreachable areas. Or body block you from hooks exploiting the fact that you can't freaking see them? Or immediately unhook without letting me get clear and then whine about camping?
You die by default. I'll mori you the first chance I get. Screw you, die in a fire. You're doing it solely to irritate me so why should I not do everything in my power to make your game a short and miserable experience. I really don't care about my rank I'm in the game to have fun, so if you're going to make my game miserable I'll give it back to you in spades.
-
If only you could punch them in the face like you could if they acted up in real life. Alas.
-
I generally play killer and that would be kinda cool actually.
-
It would be nice to be able to make a custom game and add a rando or two to pad things out. Every time I play against one friend the damn hatch spawns next to them and poof game over.
-
No, that's dumb. This is a horror game not an objectify females game. If you want boobs go download some porn or something. It's free.
-
i pretty much skipped the Blight when I spent three games unable to figure out what the hell to do with his power. Seemed like a slightly worse version of the Hillbilly and I could barely control the guy.
-
Yeah it was the one with the creepy buddah statues that look at you when you turn away.
-
I'm not advocating banning them but I fricken hate flashlights. I hate being blinded and having my agency taken away as killer. As player I can't ever get the damn thing to work which probably pisses me off even more. And the dipshits that standard around clicking their flashlights wanting attention are the reason why I typically keep a red mori on me. ye gods and little fishes that's freaking annoying.
I need to start packing lightborn.
-
I generally play killers and actually I kind of like the idea of players being able to build destructable barricades. Maybe you need a perk to build them and it takes 30 seconds and makes a bunch of or something. As long as it doesn't create a situation where it is impossible to get to the survivor.
Survivor runs into killer shack... takes 30 seconds barricades the doorway and begins working on a generator. A second survivor runs in and takes 30 seconds to barricades the other door. Yeah they finish the generator but now they're trapped inside unless they tear down the barricade.
Even cooler, lemme set the shack on fire while they're in there.
