Just because games, tv-shows and other forms of media include these type of characters won't change the law of these countries though. It'll only pander to those who already accepted that part of culture so I really don't see how this will help them in these regions of the world.
It may not cause them to completely revoke laws, but it's a start. Normalising the presence and acceptance of LGBTQ+ people will encourage others to do so as well. It may also lead to people pressuring governments and organisations to change these laws which helps as social pressure is a big part of change.
-
I actually really like the new killer's appearance and power. I think he's a refreshing addition to the game.
-
Ok so, in a previous thread I summarised my thoughts and feelings on the need for LGBTQ+ representation and I think that they apply to this thread (as well as every other LGBTQ+ discussion because the same comments always come up). Therefore I am going to link my comment in this thread:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1992529/#Comment_1992529
Please, if you are willing, take your time to read my comment fully and try to understand the points I have made.
Also I'd like to point out that someone's sexuality is not political and will never be. Stop trying to make it something that it is not, LGBTQ+ people just want the same treatment, rights, representation and opportunities as everyone else. There is nothing political about people just trying to live their lives.
-
I think I'd be more inclined to play the Trickster over the Deathslinger because I like the idea of his power more and am not a big fan of playing Deathslinger.

Not only that but for some reason they gave him recoil too as if DBD is COD.
I personally like the addition of recoil. It'll mean that you learn to constantly aim and move around instead of just aiming in the exact same place and just constantly hitting the survivor.

Great summary, great read! Thank you for that
No problem! :) I was sitting reading through the thread and was just constantly thinking "how do people still not get this after multiple people (namely you, @GamerCustard and @Orion) clearly explained it to them" so I decided to make an overall summary about it and try my best to explain. Plus it's a very important topic so I feel that it was necessary to discuss its need and the prejudice linked to it.
-
After reading this entire thread, I have came to a few conclusions. First of all - representation is important, it allows people to feel a sense of belonging and see themselves in their favourite games/TV shows/movies/etc. You may not need it, but a lot of people do so let them have it. LGBTQ+ people just want to be represented in the same way that cisgender straight people are. Someone made a great analogy as to why representation is needed earlier in the thread and if anyone does not understand why it is needed, they should read it:

Hmm..
I don't know If this will help, but I have a bad analogy for you. If you read this post that is. Obviously this is nothing like sexuality, but please see it from a whole rep standpoint? If I write it well enough..
I have a very obscure, or unused name. I've not really met people with my name, except from secondhand stories about where I got it from.
So, I can never find my name on the little name plaques and badge stands they have at the $2 store - if you know the ones I'm talking about? And while it may not impact me too much, and other people may not care, I would still get a feeling of joy if I finally saw one, I wouldn't forget it.
Everyone else says that it's not necessary, it's just a nametag, no one is called that anyway.. but their names are up there, they'd be able to find theirs if they looked, so they don't know the even just slight disappointment felt when my name can't be found.
Then one day, I browse a store and it has one of those stands. Even though I know it won't be there I spin it around looking at names - and there it Is! My name! It wasn't made specifically for me, but I now feel happy, because my name is no longer odd; I might not see it again for a while but seeing it brings me joy, because I've finally found what fits me, I can finally relate to having my name on one of those little plaques.
Does it affect much? No. Does anyone else care that it's there? No. But I will remember it as the place that finally had my name amongst all the other names there. It's an option for me.
If that makes sense.. it's half baked.. and I'm bad with words. I'm sorry it took so much up, but my point is.. - and obviously the two aren't comparable because identity is much much more than a birth name, but what I'm tryna say I guess?
Is some people don't notice, or don't think it's necessary to add it, but when they've been included all their life it's hard to relate to those who haven't.. an LGBTQIA+ character in dbd isn't going to affect the game gameplay wise, but it brings joy and a feeling of relation to some people who are. And i think making people feel included is a very important thing..
It's not like it's being made a big deal - as in, the characters sexual orientation and gender identity isn't changing anything - so just because you don't notice it and think it's necessary, doesn't mean others will too.
Sorry, this went longer than intended -_-"
Secondly, it is a problematic mindset to only say "I don't want this", "I don't care about this" or "don't force it" whenever the LGBTQ+ community is brought up. This is because no one ever complains when a cishet character is present in a game. It is very important to understand that you can be prejudiced without realising - if you don't care about a character's sexuality, don't comment on it, don't say that we don't need it unless you're also going to make threads and posts complaining about the presence of cishet characters because then it seems like you care more about the exclusion of LGBTQ+ characters than presence of any sexualities/genders in the game. Moreover, if you do not care about a LGBTQ+ character being added to the game, why do you feel the need to comment on it? If you don't care, just move on please, this discussion is not for you and may just present you in a negative light when that was not your intention.
Finally, if you do care about the presence of LGBTQ+ characters in the game but not cisgender straight individuals then that is just you being prejudiced.
I'd like to point out that this is not directed towards anyone in particular, it is just the conclusions I have came to and my thoughts and feelings on this after reading the entire thread.

I actually really like his design. I think the design team did an amazing job and it's nice to have a killer that does not look like all the others. His attire shows off his personality and fit him very well. It's nice to have a more human-like killer.
-
I personally don't understand your problem with the new killer. I think his appearance is refreshing and fun. It's nice to have a killer that stands out and looks more human-like. Also his power does not seem bad at all. After watching others play as him (as I have not played as him yet), he actually seems like he could be quite strong, it may just take a bit of practice.
Overall, I think BHVR did a very good job with this new chapter. The only thing I would have liked, that we did not get, is a new map. I think it would be very cool to have a modern, city-like map but I understand why we did not get one.
-
The new animations and HUD are really bad. They need changed.
-
At least with the Twins you get Elodie and good perks. The mid-chapter patch has made survivor gameplay harder in regards to the new animations and HUD. It is very hard to tell what is going on with the new HUD and some of the animations look unnatural and make movement harder (i.e. standing still and running injured). Additionally, there seems to be a bug that makes hitboxes massive so killers appear to hit you from miles away.
-
The standing still animation and running injured animations look unnatural and clunky. To be honest you look like a statue when standing still and a penguin when you run injured.
Along with this the new HUD is very distracting and too messy. The information is all over the screen and it is very hard to tell what is going on in a match.
-
This is happening to me too, something definitely has went wrong. Either the hitboxes are messed up or the animations make it look too far away, I'm not sure. I hope it gets sorted out.
-
This has happened in all of the matches I've played today. The killer looks like they are too far away for the hit to connect, it's making it really hard to stay alive in a chase as a survivor because I can not longer judge whether I'll get hit or not by the killer from a certain distance. The large majority of times I was hit in chases looked like it should not have connected.
-
I don't like it - it makes the screen too cluttered and the information is the most inconvenient places to look at. Plus, appearance wise, it does not fit the Dead by Daylight's aesthetic and I feel it looks too much like a FPS game HUD (for example Apex Legends).

Kindred, Iron Will, Alert and Bond if you want the ultimate Solo build, you always know where your teammates are and where the Killer is, you could also run an Exhaustion perk like Dead Hard or Sprint Burst.
I like this idea, however I feel like both Alert and Bond are not needed. While information is key when playing both survivor and killer, three information perks as a survivor tends to become excessive and one of the slots could be used for something more beneficial, like an exhaustion perk. I'd say that Kindred and Iron Will should definitely be ran but maybe only one of the two other information perks should be used.
-
I'd say overall you've played well. The majority of the time you stayed aware of the killer's location in a chase and adjusted your movements accordingly. The main things to focus on would be trying to keep track of the killer and their red stain (at 1:52, it would have been more beneficial to fake the window you vaulted because the killer went back around the wall to the side where you vaulted to - this was indicated by the sudden disappearance of their red stain) and, when possible, staying in the match to try and find the NOED totem so your teammate could be saved, as you were not in any immediate danger.
Other things that could help you improve is running an exhaustion perk to help in chases. Along with this, Windows of Opportunity and Spine Chill tend to be a waste of a perk slot as over time you will learn the placement of windows and pallets, and predict where a killer is likely to come from and when. However, Spine Chill and Resilience work well together, as they allow you to vault windows faster, so I'd recommend that combination if you want to keep running Spine Chill and give it even more use. I'd say it is a lot more beneficial to switch out Windows of Opportunity for Resilience.
-
To be honest, I could maybe, if I was forced to, get used to some of the other animations that I don't like (e.g. the walking one) but the idle animation needs changing. It is too forced and uncomfortable, and just looks silly.
-
The obsession is chosen randomly every match. A survivor running an obsession perk only increases their chances of becoming it, it doesn't confirm that they'll be the obsession.
-
I hope it does get changed, currently it's very unfun to play against and ruins matches against Huntresses in my opinion.

Hit validation isn't functional and it hurts me inside
That's what often happens to me when I go up against Huntresses. Very frustrating at times.

i get hits like this a lot. i dont think this should have hit me with a 47 ping (EU servers). the hit doesnt connect at all.
Yeah I often get hits like that. It seemed to happen almost all the time when I was playing on the PTB (however I'm not sure if hit validation is on the PTB or not so that could be why). I've also had experiences with a couple Huntresses hitting me when I'm round a corner or behind a tree.
-
This is a fun idea, I quite like it. It would definitely be an improvement to a red tint over the icon when injured.
-
I agree, some of the new animations are great, like crouching or dying state. I also like how it looks when you get back up from dying state. These ones were done well, however, the walking, standing and injured animations are clunky, look unnatural and feel wrong when playing. Also, I'm not sure if it's the new animations or typical latent hits/hitboxes but it looks like the killers can hit you from far away now. For example I had a game where I was, what seemed a decent distance from a killer in a chase, where they should not have been able to hit me, but when they swung they did hit me. This happened in multiple other games as well, in fact I think it happened at least once in all of the other matches I played as well.
-
I agree, the standing and walking animations look clunky and unnatural. I feel that crouching, running and dying state are ok, but standing and walking feel and look odd when playing - the standing one in particular. When standing, I feel survivors look almost statuesque and frozen in place.
-
I mean, personally, I don't do my daily rituals unless they're ones that I'll just complete during a match anyways, like healing 3 people etc. It's often because I'll get a killer daily and I don't really play killer or it'll be for a character who I don't like playing very much or don't want to play at the time. However, I'm not against the idea of adding more daily rituals, I think if that's what people want, then I don't see anything particularly wrong with it.

There's a lot of things unhealthy for the game. Forcing people to keep playing in a match that sucks is unhealthy for the game.
I agree, I think it'll make it very unfun for people if they're forced to stay in a match they don't want to be in. It may also cause people to stop playing Dead by Daylight.
I understand how frustrating it is when people kill themselves on hook but in most scenarios I don't disagree with their decision (most of the time people do it when killers are running really unfun builds or playing in a way that makes it unfun). Along with this, sometimes it's more beneficial when someone does kill themselves on hook, for example when the killer is pushing for a 4k and the only way you escape is by someone killing themselves on hook, allowing you to escape through hatch.
-
This is a great idea! This version is easy to understand and look at, along with working well with the game's appearance. The only downside of this could be that people who play the game further away from their monitor/TV may not see the injured/downed/hook states all that well, but something could easily be done to rectify that, like providing a way to make it bigger or just switching the icons to only the survivor's states (like the original HUD).

It’s one of the reasons why struggle is a terribly outdated mechanic, give us skill checks already damnit
I personally believe we have enough skill checks in the game, and do not think the solution to struggling is adding more skill checks. When facing pyramid head, doing gens, healing, snapping out of madness tier 3, and completing jigsaw boxes we get skill checks. We face even more when perks like overcharge and oppression are ran. I think the addition of more skill checks to replace struggling would make them too repetitive in a match and people would become very sick of them. Therefore, if the struggling mechanic is changed, I think an alternative to adding more skill checks should be found.

The majority of my DLCs have went missing too. I own all of the DLCs and am very confused as to why this has happened, I hope it is resolved soon.
EDIT: Additionally it seems like I have lost some of the cosmetics I purchased for characters - I had Claudette's colourful headscarf cosmetic and Ace's white hat cosmetic but they are now missing.
Furthermore, when I checked in the steam store it says I still own all of the DLCs (except Demise of the Faithful which I obtained with iridescent shards).

Yes for survivors it is a zero sum game. What that means is that there is no way for everyone to have equal opportunities to win. At red rank you need 3 golds/1 iri, 3 iri/1 bronze, or 2 iri/1 gold/1 silver.
If you NEVER get the chance to save or heal someone (which can happen because the killer is bad or just from dumb luck), you need to do 3 gens solo, get chased by the killer for something like 3 minutes, and NEVER get downed. Considering just Lightbringer and how other survivors are doing gens, you will NEVER get Iridescent in this emblem AND Evader unless it's a really long game and other survivors die super fast. But then if the killer decides to camp, or a survivor decides to die on a hook, POOF, it is now literally impossible to pip because you have 0 Benevolence.
If you only get to do 1 gen (which is extremely common) then that's silver Lightbringer. You need 2 iri's and a gold. Benevolence is the easiest to get iridescent but if the survivor is a potato and runs to the killer, or the killer tunnels that guy, you probably just lost points. Bye bye pip, it's now impossible. Assuming you can get that emblem, now you need 1 more iri and a gold. If you got down EVEN ONCE, including at the Exit Gate, you now need iri Evader. This means either 1) staying in the killer's terror radius for literally the ENTIRE game (and that game lasting more than 8 minutes), or escaping something like 6 chases. This is very unlikely not because it can't be done, but because you probably won't get the OPPORTUNITY to get it. Killer might chase you 4 times at most throughout the game. You can't reliably get iri Evader now. So basically you can not get a pip if you only get silver Lightbringer, UNLESS the game is excessively long, which almost never happens. Either survivors do gens and escape or the killer kills you all. Those long games are very rare. Now factor in the BS like camping, tunneling, OP add-ons, bad luck, bad survivors, DC's, and now pipping at red/purple ranks becomes a unicorn. You will safety pip a lot, and pip here and there, but due to BS you will depip enough to offset the few pips you have the OPPORTUNITY to get.
Also I agree with the killer part. I often just kill the third guy and give the last a chance for hatch. Hell I will catch them and straight up DROP them on the hatch. GG, I'm fine with letting someone go. But you can't do that on the new system at red ranks. I MUST KILL EVERYONE. If I don't, I lose my emblem. If I kill 3 I get only silver. And with Gatekeeper being mostly beyond my control as killer, I have to ensure I get as many points as possible for a pip. It means I have to play like a Dbag to get a 4k which I don't want to do. And while I'm currently rank 1 so yes I can afford to let people go NOW because I can just play for a safety pip, getting there is an entirely different story. It's not as lame as the survivor ranking system, but it honestly doesn't make the game better or more skillful. If survivors DC I'm basically forced to farm them, and even then it's likely I will just get a safety pip. It's not enjoyable.
I completely agree, the new ranking system is not fair at all. It prevents people from actually being able to have fun matches, where everyone has the opportunity to pip.
