I do miss the aesthetics of the old Realms, despite any imbalances on them. Bring back the blues and the greens and nighttime corn! Old Haddonfield had its issues when playing killer, but I miss it nonetheless.

What isn't missed are permanently broken hooks, hatch standoffs, healing at pallets, insta moris, insta DS, insta heals, dribbling survs to hooks, actual infinites etc.

Back when killer was the most insufferable role to play as and survivor queue times were so long I could cook my dinner and still wait for a match.

  • Fixing her hit detection should do.

  • Wasn't he getting released soon? My friends told me he would come in season 1.

  • Wasn't the final mori and UB basekit on the PTB and failed miserably?

That wasn't exactly the case, I would say.

What did happen was that some people claimed they were facing "Bully squads" on every single game, and we all know that does not happen. So people would point that out.

But the Forums did have a reputation of being biased towards killers for a while. Thankfully, that is no longer a thing.

Sluzzy was the biggest of them all but I think he or she was a troll just to come here and stoke the flame.

Would this ever happen? Is the original code for the old game lost?

This is one of the few games where watching old content actually makes me wish I could've played back then.

    No.

  • I don't care as long as the killer is fun to play as and to face.

Too bad that most killers aren't either of them.

    I do, a little bit.

My favorite character is Scarlet Witch. Love her <3

Nice. I'm waiting for doctor doom, knull and ultron. Dunno when they come out.

This is a good point, most people do not mind losing if they feel the loss was fair.

The problem comes when people lose based on a totally bad matchup they had no hope in, mechanics that tilt the game so far out of their favor they can't do anything concrete, they only get a few hooks before everyone's out the door or a single half-chase before they're dead at 5 gens, and they then feel forced to run sweatier and sweater perks to not have that experience again. The worst part is, like you said, that win then doesn't have to do with skill but because you hammered your opponent with overpowered stuff to the point they cried "uncle".

It comes down to what you said here, for Survivors and Killers alike: the game feels like it actively punishes you for losing, both sides, despite you trying your hardest and using skill and not messing up and you STILL get slapped on the wrist and told "No, bad player, git gud and try harder". And that's bad game design, because failure is a game state, not something you should punish for or reward.

I think winning is convoluted. Totem spawns are still wank. Not all maps are equally balanced. RNG or preset spawns.

A year ago I played dbd, there was a tree that stood right next to the killer shack which made it impossible to loop.

You mean the insanely killer heavy forums here? Gee, I wonder why they might be.

Midwich had been literally the most killer sided map in the game for years now. That's not just subjectively me saying that, that's the devs putting it map statistics every year and Midwich had consistently been "the most lethal map on the game with the highest kill rate" every year for at least the past 3 years. I don't believe they put out those stats after the Midwich map update, but I doubt anything has really changed. It's consistently the smallest map in the game.

They've done a *ton* Of map changes they don't highlight very well in patch notes. They changed tile weightings (to make things like jungle gyms spawn less often), changed tile spawn logic (to prevent tile chaining), they added instead "filler pallets" to dilute the map pool (see any "what the heck is this tile" or "how do you run this" post with a pallet held up by toothpicks as the only playable "loop" in that quarter of the map).

Pretty much all newer maps heavily favor the killer, including pretty much every rework. Macmillan, which you refer to as "survivor sided", used to be considered generally one of the most balanced realms in the entire game. We've shifted what "balanced" means and haven't touched those maps, that's all your statement means there. Which basically means they haven't been fully reworked into killer maps yet.

That is all part of the devs stated goal of 60% kill rates. They're intentionally making maps killer sided to make kills (and the game as a whole) easier for killers. And they've said directly it's not to make the game more "balanced" in the sense of being even, they're intentionally making it killer sided on purpose.

I have no clue what you're talking about but I've been lurking on Twitter (X), Steam forums, the official forums, Reddit, TikTok and YouTube for 5 years and all of them are nothing but survivor sided. Nothing but complaints against killers. This is how Skull Merchant, Chucky, Freddy, etc. got caught in the nerf hammer factory. So what you said is false.

In terms of map redesigns, I feel like the perfect example of a problematic tile is the new L shaped pallet+window tile on Coldwind. It's not a skilled interaction. It's a rock/paper/scissors tile. The short side is so short that the killer won't get punished for respecting. Unless you egregiously pre-fire the window or L side as a survivor, you're not reacting to the respect and making a play off of that in time.

And I think that design philosophy has been gradually bleeding into many maps. Unless I'm completely misremembering, killers in 2018 did not respect pallets at nearly the rate they do today. Newer killers have been conditioned to almost always respect the pallet, because even if they respect 3 times in a row and get burned, it's a free hit once that survivor drops the pallet and they go around the short side. There's no wrong way to eat a Reese's, and there's no wrong way to play most of the newer tiles as killer.

I extend chases by 10-15 seconds so often by standing still at a junk pallet because killers are so conditioned to avoid stuns now. What is the new skill floor teaching players?

Chain looping occurs so often especially since windows of opportunity is constantly in play. I guess making the maps smaller wasn't such a bright idea either.

I didn't say what I said without thinking about everything that you mentioned. BHVR can handle their business any way they choose to. People absolutely deserve time off. I have no problem with them taking as much time off as they want to over the holidays. But if you are running a live service game, especially during a limited-time holiday event, then you also need to be willing to put in the resources needed to fix things that are broken. If you decide not to do that, then don't be surprised when your paying customers become impatient and upset. Running a business is always a balance between keeping your customers happy and keeping your employees happy. Lots of businesses (and their employees) have to make sacrifices to keep their customers satisfied, especially during holiday periods. This is not just some unique demand on the gaming industry. I work in the chemical industry where we have to ship product out the door to our customers every day, including during the holidays. We could choose to shut down for a couple weeks too, but would then have to deal with the consequences of negative customer experience.

I apologise I'm jumping on you, I've got no beef with you personally but I've read a few posts like this and your comment here is the one that has struck the nerve one too many times...

Think about what you just said... you are actually proposing that BHVR should make their employees work through the holidays? You believe that award is not deserved cause they don't?

I guess the amount of content BHVR churn out for us ingrates on such a demanding deadline counts for sod all.

This right here is why only people who truly love programming should go into game development and why I never did after I got my degree, and I got a very good degree.

Customer demand/expectation in gaming is ignorant at best and insanely entitled at worst. Ridiculous man hours, job security is non existent, high staff turnover, incredible ease of a studio getting shut down any moment, relatively low income for that line of work, incredibly complex and challenging work that takes a huge toll on your personal life, health and relationships... and all while everyone calls you lazy, undeserving, useless and greedy to boot. It is like all the problems of retail but cranked up to 11.

I have seen this attitude in every game community I've ever been a part of... and game devs have always out of necessity had to just take it, cause we've seen what happens when devs answer back... they get labelled as egotists who "are out of touch with their fan base" and can caused the afformentioned game review bomb and/or studio shutdown.

I have many friends who are in the thick of it. They are exceptionally talented people who work their butt off trying to swim in this crazy industry, and am aware of exactly what great things they achieved that didn't produce the respect and rewards in the gaming market it deserved. It's kinda a horror show to watch at times.

Again, I'm sorry it's you I've bitten the head off, but it's so frustrating to constantly keep reading how ungrateful and ignorant people are when it comes to game development.

This is why we need advanced robots so they can do all that work for us. (Joke)

Ive been away for a bit both here and on the game. Just taking a small burnout break 👍

Still logging in daily for those juicy rewards. Merry Christmas 🎅

I haven't played dbd for a year now but I login occassionally for the rewards in case I do eventually play it. I don't know when.
