Update: Played a couple of games a trapper so far and boy oh boy it's tough out here. Though using some of these recommendations I did get a 4k one game and 4 escape the next. Still have a long road ahead of me in mastering his kit. Feel like a masochist after a couple of games of the trapper. Definitely, a lot to manage in the limited time you have in the trial, so hats off to anyone that can consistently do well with him. I really like the synergy of his two pink add-ons.
-
All good recommendations, keep them coming. I'm used to playing killers that don't require too much setup early game to start pressuring survivors so it's a bit different than what I'm used to when I pickup killer, but that's kinda the point. Is it normal for him to come into the power role more towards mid-game when playing or where does his ability to snowball start to come into play? What perks does he need to help out his early game? So far I got Scourage Hook PR, BBQ, Pop, and Corrupt on him.

Avoid stepping on your own traps.
My trapper has good shoes on and doesn't want them scratched up by bear traps. What are good general areas to get unsuspecting survivor caught in them instead?

A stereotype of a race is inherently racist, I'm not gonna get on everyone's case and try and be the joke police, but you have to at least admit that.
Both of those things can be mutually exclusive. I will refrain from getting into the semantics to avoid hijacking a thread that voices a legitimate concern for EU players.

Yeah of course, it's still a racist joke though.
Closer to a stereotype joke which is still a stretch imo, but far from a racist joke. Still funny tho cause many NA players camp too.

I'm on PC (steam), live in Serbia, so probably Russian servers or something IDK. Had the game since 2018 but have a total of 100h in game (most of that spent in the lobby either AFK or waiting for a game).
Before, I understood the "ranking" system, as in rank 20 - rank 01 going from piss yellow to blood red and it was a mixed bag, sometimes I would actually get survivors who didn't know every pallet, jungle gym, window, they'd be new, like me, so I'd play fair (no NOED, tunneling, slugging, camping etc.) but still manage a 2-3K, and sometimes I'd get flashlight clicking ultra survivors with servers in their back yards dead harding for distance, body blocking, flashlight saving swat agents who de ranked on purpose, it felt random and most of all it felt (sort of) fair.
NOW?! Holly #########, now i don't understand ANYTHING! there is a IV (I know it's 4, i just don't understand it) in the corner of my screen that's kind of yellowish, that's rank but every game, it's the latter version of survivors, and in the endgame they all have different ranks with different colors, blood red I as well as IV... The #########??? I don't expect or want to 4k every time, but I can't seem to "git gud". Survivors just run me around for 5 gens and book it. I don't feel like I'm getting any better :(
I got a 4K ONCE! And only because:
-The swat agents got too cocky and way too altruistic, basically throwing, so not me playing good, but them playing bad (on purpose)
-My reverse bear traps got awesome RNG and just wouldn't come off. Can't count on that.
-AND I had to sweat my ass off, slugging, tunneling, and camping like the biggest most toxic player we all hate, and got a well deserved ear full in the endgame chat.
It feels bad, I don't like playing in ways that make it not fun for the four other people in the game, but it also feels bad when the swat team shows 0 fear, and just steam rolls me, looping like pros linking multiple tiles together, flashlight clicking, sabo plays, body blocking, while gens just keep popping like corn! It just seems hopeless. I keep trying but it just seems no one is just NEW anymore.
What can I do, if anything? :(
(except play survivor, that always goes worse, but I didn't buy the game to play survivor tbh.)
To your last point, this game can be very humbling at times because you will have good games where you feel invincible and then you get humbled the next game struggling to get 1 hook... and everyone escaping and tbagging clicky clicky ######### at the end. It's all about balance. You do good, you get humbled....and then maybe you get on your basement Bubba insidious and remind yourself this game can be made unfun for both sides just as easily.

One follow up question, I get (now) how the MMR system works, but is there a way to set my preference to "I'll gladly wait for 20-30 minutes for a GOOD matchup rather than a 5 minute wait for a 7 minute game I get totally wrecked in"?
What everyone else has already said. MMR is was just redressed and it still gives you the same mix-bag of players, but now with delicious blood (..errr points) when it resets. The number of pips you need scales based on how high you are up the ladder, as well as points, but i'm sure someone can confirm that for sure. There is not currently a guaranteed queue time that has been implemented in the game.

OOOOOOO! Didn't even think of that, but... Maybe? I don't know enough about VR, I can barely afford clot DBD, I don't even have all the DLC T_T
I think it'd be an interesting and spooky experience for survivors. I would play stealth killers exclusively just to torture survivors when I get the drop on them :P.

It feels like for every 1 thing bhvr gets right they get 2 things wrong.
I don't miss old legion. Stabbing someone and walking backwards, following the blood trail until they bleed out. Or double mending add ons. However, I think I miss old Freddy.
They got rid of omega blink nurse and 4x blink nurse, cool. Then they added a cd to her blinks. Making her even more punishing if you screw up -.-
Old MoM should have never been introduced to the game. A ton of people said that's going to break the game. They changed it but now the perk is now useless.
I love the reworks to bt+ds. I feel both perks are in a good spot. I do not like the rework to ruin. I know people will disagree with me. That's fine, that's your opinion. I miss old ruin. Also old undying.
Why did Billy's chainsaw get an overheat mechanic? Seriously. Billy was considered one of the most balanced killers once tinkered was reworked. Why drastically change what was working? Haven't you heard of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"?
I do not miss insta syringes yet we now have to deal with coh?
Breakable walls sounded like a good idea but poorly implemented. Now it's just another thing killer has to break or else a loop becomes an infinite.
We finally got skill based match making. Then we found out it's only looking at escapes or kills. The old pip system was better than this.
All great points. Just wanted to add to your COH point and piggyback my frustration about how they introduce Boon perks like COH AND then nerf Hex: Thrill of the Hunt into the ground so that Boon gameplay can be even stronger.
-
I'm sure she'll be back in time for the board game's release.
-
Sounds like its time for me to turn cross-play off for a good while.
-
They won't even have to lie. BHVR can just announce a new skin, new killer/survivor, shirtless Myers, and it's back to a pretty good day at the office playing CS:GO.

It's also unfortunate and surprising to see as many discouraged veterans of the game. Where did it sour for y'all?

Yes.
If it has Old, GeneralV is sold.
There is only one exception, which is Old Legion.
I agree 100%. Fellow oldhead here and I'll still play for SWF and occasionally try and git gud with Cenobite, but the game really doesn't hit the same like it used to. I actually got more enjoyment on both sides when there were more "broken" aspects of the game. Something about the gameplay itself was a breath of fresh air after playing F13.

So are a lot of killers in "the right hands". Not everyone is as good as you I guess.
Lol. Very weak generalization of what I said. It is a fact around here that Spirit is a solid S-tier still. Rin has a much lower skill ceiling than many other killers. Easier to learn but still hard to master. You'll find a lot more "right hands" playing Spirit than compared to what they can do with most of the killer roster.
-
@DangerScouse said:
Nah. Spirit is awful now.
Big disagree. I've mained spirit since her release, and yes, she is still strong and an absolute menace in the right hands.
-
It does need to be addressed. To me, the levels of camping and tunneling reflect the state of the gameplay currently. The game may be more balanced than it has been in a while, but both sides are not a lot of fun atm. Rather than putting out band-aid perks and re-dressing up old ones, they should look at adding more objectives for both sides.
-
I know I do. I prefer the old mess that was DBD.
-
Because EGC is a thing
-
Because we are not nice, kind, or wonderful.
-
Yeah but what about the two other bully buds that also brought in flashlights and the Leon with the Flashbang
-
Eh, ime you either will stomp him into the ground and pick up his trash on the way out or he'll annihilate your whole team, esp if solo Q. He is super add-on dependent and a Coordinated SWF is GG for Pinhead more times than not. He direly needs a buff to his possessed chain ability to make him a more consistent anti-loop killer.
-
What? I thought the chat filter was supposed to fix end-game toxicity.
-
The game is not dead. The entity just keeps resummoning it.
-
Just nuke the entire game and give us DBD 2 already.
-
Artist has more counterplay than you realize. She can be looped, her birds can be destroyed and mind-games at windows and pallets, multi-level maps can screw her bird powers up, stringing strong tiles together, etc...you just have to use your noggin slightly more than usual, especially at loops.
-
Much much worse
-
MMR is a disgrace. I just want to try out the new killers and not have to sweat every game on someone I just picked up. Might as well not even touch MMR. They can't get things up to a quality standard that should have been there on release.
-
Par for the course on this game so it's hard to say since it has never consistently functioned properly. I had to get off tonight because I was over some of the BS hits in my last few matches as survivor. I'm talking swings that would miss and you'd hear that they missed and after the animation was finished and they were recovering from the swing the game would then decide to validate it. Pretty good job so far.
-
I like to set the bar very low for entertainment in this regard. This typically involves slapping Insidious on Bubba and trying to get 1 survivor into the basement.
-
Spirit main here. Small maps and open maps (i.e. Coldwind, Macmillian, Autohaven, Dead Dawg) are my preferred when playing spirit. Lery's is aight too.
-
I don't see an issue here. They countered your unfun build with their own...kinda the point of any counter. That's just luck of the draw because with anything less it's an ez 3-4k with what you have.
-
They probably won't, but I sure wish they did cause the tentacle is wack.
-
Wow, they brought in BNP. Daring today, aren't we?

You guys are going through all the stages of mental gymnastics from warm up to full workout to justify how pig afking in front of a box is 'intended' and 'ok' but also cried enough to get a buffed perk that could've shifted the meta (that hated meta that you all hate) nerfed again within 2 weeks because people 'abusing' it

So this is about survivors changing in lobby. Did you have one too many last second switch to flashlights?
In any of my responses when did I say that? I don't mind last-second switches as I do that playing survivor, so it doesn't bother me the few times I get on to play killer. I just stated what many others have before me, which is it's mind-boggling that killers got the short end of the stick and can't do something you would think would be as simple due to the flawed design of MMR. I would also say it's interesting how survivors are coded in such a way as skins and that they couldn't be as easily limited even if the devs wanted to. It's a mess.
-
@Mr_K said:
Its 2022 and we have per-killer mmr. Switching killers is not feasible when you could queue with a low mmr killer and switch to a high mmr killer.
The MMR is still a flawed and unsustainable solution to the much larger problem that they still haven't figured out since p2p era... Whether they base it on the killer or the matches there needs to be a better system in place. It fundamentally does not make sense design-wise to have the game set up in a way that allows survivors to change in lobby but not killers. As previously mentioned that should have been something taken into account before rolling out the changes years ago. it's as confusing as the way some animations are prioritized in-game.
-
@GoodBoyKaru From my understanding even during the period they were "fine-tuning" MMR and turned it off they still kept this feature. It mainly just seems like a flaw in its design. I don't know much about coding, but you'd think that all these assets could be built differently into the system to accommodate such a rudimentary feature without sacrificing MM quality.
-
@NemeanXIII said:
No it's the samething survivors run specific builds for different killer's this why it was changed.Think about it what was the reason killers were locked in.Its because they knew who the were going against and killers would change to counter a specific group and that's the same thing survivors do when they enter a killer's lobby it's because they have a specific build against that killer.Ive seen videos and a streamer,I use to go to also told me this true and she knows ,who she gets in lobby with and who the killer is.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2791154#Comment_2791154
What would be the reason a survivor would complain about a killer who switched? Because they have something to let them know who's the killer?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2791156#Comment_2791156
You misunderstood my post. I am saying if survivors were locked out of swapping characters in the pre-game lobby then I'm sure the forums would be flooded with complaints and it would be changed rather quickly. I'd also be one of them 😂.
-
I believe they have the means to make this system work in a way both sides can swap, regardless of the need for a patch to re-enable/disable the swapping feature. As it stands, we have a long about way for a faulty system to give killers the short end of the stick... What is even more irritating is that we had this feature for a very long time and such a rudimentary thing was seemingly not taken into account when making the system.

@Phasmamain said:
MMR is killer dependent. When I play clown my lobbies are harder than with legion. You could abuse this if you could switch mid lobby
In my own experience that sounds good on paper but in practice it seems to be only smoke and mirrors. I just bought Cenobyte and played him at level 1 with 1 perk equipped. When I get matched it is automatically with Red rank, a silver, and bronzes. I do not play killer as much these days so I'm in way lower ranks than these guys, but it seems no different who i'm matched with if i'm playing a level 1 Cenobite or a p3 lvl 50 Piggy.
