I don't know if it's an issue with 'the balance team' or somebody up above that isn't letting them do their jobs but there is certainly an issue. Since this has always been an issue I have to assume it goes deeper than a balance team.
-
The fact that they are running the 50% only until September tells me they are likely to do a second sale before it all goes away. It might be a skin or two that I absolutely want before the first sale ends but for the rest I'll be patient and wait.

why do people legit want a maze that has one of it's properties be "every corridor looks exactly the same" as a map?
I think something different would be nice. It's been awhile since I've seen Hellraiser 2 but I'm sure they could do something inspired by that area that isn't a literal maze.
-
People do it because there is no punishment in PTB for leaving a game you don't want to play. The most inconsiderate thing is it's the players who wait 10-30 minutes to play killer that get hosed.
-
Can we get a confirmation on this? I mean it's a very good point. If they intend to make any future adjustments on Demo then they may be required to do them right now....
-
I wouldn't buy the stranger thing skins until November. They're likely going to discount them harder before they go away.

Your points are so rudimentary that it's not worth my time delving into it.
Stop thinking in a 1-demnsional mindset.
Scariest killers in human history such as Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Ed Gein or Ted Bundy weren't scary cuz of how they looked.
It's what they were capable of doing and what they did.
Hell, some people thought Dahmer was pretty attractive in the past.
Coming back to my point.
It can be a lollipop stick as the weapon for all I care.
If someone shoved that thing so far into someone's skull that it literally popped an eyeball, I'd be focusing more on the perpetrator than the weapon itself. Maybe it's just me.
Plague literally VOMITS on to people's faces and yet you think a flamboyant killer with a bladed baseball bat is unfit.
Go figure.
and NO, this chapter is NOT the next best option FYI.
If we were making video games vs real life monsters it'd be a boring bit of content. Clearly there are customers out there that'll chew up this garbage. Those of us that helped build this house for the horror franchises to rest in got seriously catfished. Enjoy those lollipop sticks.

Mate, we've departed from super gritty horror exclusive train station YEARS ago, just take a look at the outfits that have came up like the Clown's Mr.Puddles, that cowboy outfit for Jake, and those onesies that came out a few months back.
And whose fault is that? As long as players keep saying yes with their time and their wallets you keep inciting these fools to make dumber and dumber things. It's annoying to see a game with a lot of potential be turned into what it is today. It's a shame.

That still doesn't justify why the new killer is getting all the hate especially being "K-POP" (AKA pretty boy look) influenced.
Leatherface, Ghostface, Legion, Pig and Myers are all general human beings with nothing magical about them.
The only difference is that they all hide their mugs in some hideous, grotesque masks that cover their faces.
They could look like models for all we know.
My point is.
Just because the new killer is a pretty boy and doesn't have some Halloween mask like the other human killers doesn't make him unfit for the franchise.
I like his story and motif. He is a ruthless killer.
It's DEAD by daylight
not SCARED by daylight.
You miss my point entirely. If the killer isn't physically threatening on their own why not just have lollipop chainsaw as a killer? There's no reason to not add slenderman and FNAF in the game anymore because the requirements to be considered a killer is not saving your friends from a fire....followed by some more inane backstory.
When your next best option for killer is a K-pop star your horror franchise is in trouble.

I think people are mad cuz he's good looking.
If he was ugly AF people wouldn't complain. Insecurity at it's best. (Imagine Doctor's face on this guy)
The important part is that he is mentally unstable and is a ruthless killer despite of his good looks and talent.
Why do people assume ugly = scary?
You must be new here! People on these forums are pretty desperate and think just about all the killers are attractive, I'll save you from a certain subreddit. There's simply nothing physically imposing about this guy. They took Leto's Joker (I assume that's what some people think is 'hip') and gave him a Korean twist. Or perhaps was inspired by something of Korean culture that I have no idea and I won't assume that I do. I just know it has no place resting next to Michael Myers on the killer selection screen.
At least if you're going to make a lanky pop star a killer in the game take some inspiration from someone in real life who some might actually find threatening like Watkin Tudor Jones.

Why are you so damn serious about this? There are a lot of inconsistencies in this game if we look at it from your point of view. Susie and Pig wouldn't be able to carry Bill, Ash, or David by one hand. Killers can just jump over obstacles instead of running around in circles. Like I can go on forever.
I respect your opinion and understand the message you're trying to convey but don't make it sound like DBD is a serious "down to earth" game.
I'm not, this guy keeps harking on it thinking he's making a solid argument and I'm just humoring him lol. Obviously the game is fantasy but if you're going to throw Justin Beiber'eske characters at us and say 'wow look at how scary this next killer is' you have to take the piss out of it. I don't play anymore, just mocking it for the shell of it's former self.

She's nipple high with a blade attached to her wrist. The "twink" as you say has about a foot of range before the bat even enters the equation.
Why are people on here so arrogantly certain of matters when they don't even know the characters they speak about? I'll just leave this here for you. It's not a baseball bat, it's a lead pipe.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aihxQE043YUAnd I'll repeat again, I would have rather they used Hoffman over Amanda just so it would be a bit more realistic when it comes to the physicality of overpowering the survivors. But it's bE, we gotta hit those diversity numbers ya know?

He's got a baseball bat and a bunch of throwing knives. She's got her Assassin's Creed cosplay blade and David Cameron's college girlfriend on her head. I just don't see her winning.
Hoffman would of been a better character to wear the pig mask, no question. Amanda overpowers Eric Matthews in Saw III, this twink wouldn't stand a chance. Ironically Amanda carrying Allison Kerry's body is what gets the FBI suspecting another killer involved.

So we're just going to ignore the pig in the room? It's ok, she is short enough you can overlook her easily.
Just using the examples I've been given. While it's also ridiculous to think of Amanda carrying Jeff she could for sure beat the hell out of jiwoon.

"He doesn't fit in DBD"
Neither does Legion, Demogorgon, Deathslinger, etc.
Where are the complaints for that?
Legion is clearly inspired from "You're Next" and "The Strangers". While Deathslinger feel's more like a killer in one of those run of the mill horror movies from a full moon or lesser production company, but I think it's obvious he was modeled after 'The Judge' from "The Frighteners"...right down to the decayed jaw. Demogorgon does NOT fit in DBD, and was complained about when he was released because of the slippery slope it would cause, which has brought us to today.
A decent argument could at least be made for Demogorgon as it was an actual 'monster', which is unique for DBD and that Strangers Things current popularity would help bolster the game's playerbase. I, along with several others, disagreed about his inclusion due to the appeal of a younger audience. Clearly that concern was warranted as there is a lot of people on these forums who know very little about the genre.
This killer, 'The Trickster', is ridiculous. Having a 120lb human fireman's carry a David or Bill just makes the game silly. What's so tricky about him anyways? I read his incredibly lengthy backstory(movie treatment) and not only is there nothing clever there, it's kind of embarrassing. Now I know the horror genre sets a pretty low bar when it comes to premise but this is pretty far down the chain in Jack Frost and Gingerdead man territory.
If this is the best killer bE can come up with maybe it's time to stop.

Have you seen American Psycho?
I'm assuming no. Your shallow view of the Horror Genre doesn't make you the dictator of what is and isn't horror.
Life is full of horrors from people who look even less likely to be a killer than anyone in the game. To think that you don't understand what fear and terror are yet you act like an expert.
What an ironic choice for an example. Yes I've seen American Psycho as well as read it. If you think Patrick Bateman would be a good fit for the game then you didn't understand it's message either.

Listen, by the mid chapter the background menu will be gone, and the killer most likely will be played very little unless you're on korean servers.
Plus, the killers cosmetics is still to be revealed, so we could get an actual scary/intimidating killer with some cosmetic combo. I know that if a black trenchcoat comes I'm immediately maining him.
I know it doesn't fit dbd at all, but at least it aint permanent.
I won't be around to see any of it. This game has been going off the rails from the original design for quite awhile now. How anyone would choose to support the game with cosmetic purchases and their time is baffling. With the dev's most flagrant display of staying relevant by any means necessary i.e., losing sight of it's genre, is beyond me. I've been off of this hamster wheel for awhile now and this PTB solidifies it was the right decision. The community isn't even what it once was. When the top discussions are about representation and inclusion instead of what cool horror themes could be added you can see this community has been hijacked. I have no idea who encouraged who and I really don't care anymore.
Enjoy your game best luck in the future 👍️
-
No, it's where the game comes to die. If this is really what the community likes this community is so far removed from the horror genre. Did they really have the audacity to put his portrait next to Michael Myers in the PTB?

Had to inspect the page to find the video link, I would first suggest editing your post and providing a link to the video.😀 As mentioned, the embed video function doesn't work.
I think you did really well. You focused on gens and when you hit max score event tried to peel the killer. Thats the right thing to do. You DH'ed for distance which is smart. You got very lucky with running to pallets on those two loops though. An experienced huntress would have thrown hatchets at that point as it would have been free hits. I assume you are playing solo, correct?
Probably the most important thing I can suggest is to leave gens that already have 2+ people working on them. Especially if you know the killer isn't running ruin. The worst possible scenario for a killer is to have 4 survivors each working separate gens. As someone who has thousands of hours on killer I can tell you I would much rather prefer having several survivors on a single gen than having them broken up for many reasons. For one, as killer you have to end chases very quickly in order to slow down the game when you don't know where all the survivors are. If I'm playing Huntress like in this example and I see the survivors are all bunched up on a single gen I now have many more opportunities to direct the game. I can choose multiple targets and injure multiple people very easily. Virtually every killer's playstyle is improved when survivors are in one area vs several. The huntress you went against seemed inexperienced.
Perk considerations: If you decide to try and solo gens more and you are playing solo queue I would recommend replacing bond with something more beneficial like Kindred. The new Kindred is amazing and you'll no longer need to guess where the killer is going to or who is going for hook. If you are running solo I also wouldn't suggest wake up. Wake up did help you in this scenario but I imagine in solo play there are much better options. You seem like someone who doesn't like to play much meta much so things like Plunderers, adrenaline, live forever etc.
If you want to really practice your ability with winning chases I would suggest Object of obsession and/or fixated.

There is a twitch streamer that actively only streams games of him cheating in DBD.
He goes WEEKS at a time before getting a ban and then easily navigating around it and continuing to do it.
I know who you are referring to. I watched his stream and then the very next day I also got a game with him as well. The gameplay I posted was taken from roughly 24 hours ago so no idea how long until they actually start digging into these reports. I'll give it a week to see the developers response. I'll consider doing a proper video of all the footage I've gotten from recent and how these situations are being addressed.
-
Another point I'd like to add to this topic is that many survivor mains and apparently the developers do not understand that having the killer's being 'OP' is what makes the game scary. Ever notice that so many players return to the game every time a new killer is added? Why is that? It's because the initial unpredictability of what the killer does actually adds excitement to the game. This emotion could be repeated more frequently if the developers would continually go back and give killers more tools to work with. They won't do that though because it's seen as 'cost ineffective'. But in reality it's not because their playerbase would play far more frequently (and buying more DLC) than they already are.
To their credit it is incredibly difficult to make a game both competitive and scary. At some point you need to decide to lean in one direction or the other. When they do decide to revisit a killer they seem to do it with kid gloves, afraid they are making the killer too powerful and you end up with a dud like the clown rework.

Didn't you even look at the title? I said planning, with that being said the horror element isn't here right now, but they might add that in the future.
Saw the title, they're stringing you along with false hopes of new game modes and an actual horror feel. They cannot even balance their singular game mode correctly. From my understanding they are currently working on a competitive mode to the game but I wouldn't hold my breath on that being very fun. There needs to be some serious improvements to the game that are not cosmetic and every indication of every patch points directly away from that.
-
Their update path doesn't reflect a more horror element, quite the contrary. They are constantly putting more strength into survivors. This game is quite plainly whack-A-mole with a horror themed skin on it.
-
Survivors and the balance to them have sucked all enjoyment of playing as a killer. As long as BE continues the trend of not fixing the game and letting the balancing issues continue your queue times are going to get longer and longer until survivor players start quitting as well.

But when you say Educated Guess, what are you basing this guess on?
Are you also a seasoned Clown main that holds his own in red ranks?
I’ve played Clown since the release of Curtain Call, and all I can see is just how much more impossible it will be for survivors to avoid hits at loops when a tonic cloud is in the correct place and an antidote cloud is in the right place for Clown to speed up at the exact moment survivors are hindered.
But this is also going to dramatically increase his difficulty skill cap. Players that couldn’t wrap their head around how to end chases super fast with Clown now, are not going to do any better figuring out how to combo his existing tonic with the new antidote.
Called it. It's very easy to understand BE when you've been focusing on their update path for over 4 years. I haven't played the PTB, as they have ingeniously decided to run a blood hunt concurrently with it, and I've taken time away from the game and haven't determined if it's still worth my time playing. Looking over the changes it appears that they sucked a lot of fun his addons. The biggest was solvent, as I expected. Cigar box got an interesting change, not sure I understand why they felt compelled to remove bluriness and expansion area effects though. Would have rather they made this addon to replace middle finger. Bleach remains untouched, which is a good thing. I can't tell how much, if any, pinky's was nerfed. But there is definitely a verbiage change there for some reason.
Thankfully they didn't pounce on all of his addons but it appears the changes were pretty lackluster in the new power.
-
At this point just remove ranks entirely. 250k, 500k... slap in the face. If they won't mean anything for matchmaking just remove it.
-
You're getting boned.

Hey Michi, nice to see you on the board! I get what you're saying but dev's don't care to benefit killers. From my understanding of it undying isn't shared after the first hex totem break, it's simply removed.

Every time a change is made to killer someone always says this, then we try it and find out we were right all along. We don't need to wait. We can take educated guesses on what's happened in the past. We've seen the addon changes they've done to killers. They suck. Have you noticed that most of the new addons for the new killers are pretty terrible? Mostly every killer rework that gets an addon pass is worse than it was before? I think Clown's addons are going to get gutted. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. I think Solvent Jug is getting nerfed as well as Pinky's, possibly even bleach.

I bet you guys are going to remove the Solvent Jug, aren't you? I feel like a nasty trade is going to be made here....

I'm right there with you. The whole premise of the game was to see if 4 strangers could work together and escape with limited communication. It's bad enough SWF teams gain unearned information in a match. I certainly wouldn't want to listen to them doing it.
Ventrilo and Teamspeaks have been around for many years prior to discord so if the intention was to have limited communication in a team centric game against other players then it would be a very flawed design. They surely knew people would be on com apps. They themselves have already created an official discord and allowed SWF. It's time to just go the extra step and add comms to the game so we can finally have some meaningful balance.
If you don't like it, just turn it off. You shouldn't be forced into it if you don't want to use it. I don't even care if it's off by default. But there are those of us who want to see the game played fairly.

So I've posted about VOIP multiple times and I'll do it here again because it's something that the game NEEDS in order to help balance it out. VOIP should be available to only survivors, make it feel the same as if you were in discord. If discord was a better alternative to voip then less people would choose to use it. To those who complain about squeekers I'll address that. You would know before a match even starts what kind of teammates you have when you're in the lobby, just like in F13. You should be able to quick mute them throughout the entire match if someone is being obnoxious prior to match start. Survivors should also have the ability to turn voip off entirely if they choose to. Next, if someone is being obnoxious during a match you should be able to click on their portraits at the bottom of the screen and disable their mic.
So there, no reason to not have VOIP. Now the developers can finally balance the game as if every team was swf. And to those who are in europe where there are multi language barriers I'll say this... again, you would know if your team can speak English before the match even starts so you can back out if you choose to, otherwise just mute them.
There is zero excuse not to add mics to the game. The pros outweigh the cons.

Like if you throw a bottle it causes gen regression? I think thats a decent idea too, but would be concerned that it wouldn't provide very much and the trade off of not being able to use gen regressive perks might actually make him worse.

It's not universal, I have a friend who fast vaults into a locker at the start of every match to get the killer to come over so he can head on them. Normally gets baited or grabbed out, gets frustrated, does it again the next match anyway. Devotion 14 I think
I never claimed that it was universal, but for you guys to make the arguments that more experience at something doesn't improve your skill in said situation is a fallacy. Saying I knew this one guy one time who kept making the same dumb mistake over and over again isn't evidence of that. There are always going to be outliers.
Go ask any top tier streamer how they got so good at this game and I guarantee the answer will almost always be the same thing. They play a lot. Again, devotion shouldn't be the end all/be all to solving the matchmaking issues but to say it shouldn't have weight in the decision making is frankly non-sensical.
EDIT: I want to be clear that I understand that if you took 100 devotion 10 players and were somehow magically able to rate their skill to a scientific degree that there would be variable results. But I bet if you compared them to 100 devotion level 4 players in the same environment you would see a noticeable difference on average.

Again, very anecdotal. The longer people or, even animals for that matter..... practice anything the better they get at it, in nearly all cases. I don't think that's a very controversial statement. Especially since a mountain of evidence can back up that claim. But out of curiosity Almo if you were in charge of the matchmaking system what changes do you think should be put in place?

I don't think they should increase reloading time or movement speed. Why? Because then you will get clowns you just spam bottles everywhere and aren't punished. Clown is about strategic placement and throws of his bottles not abou thaving as many bottles and as much slowdown as you can and chucking them straight at survivors.
What buffs would you like to see?
-
@bubbabrotha said:
Clown is probably one of the best killers in the game. Discuss.
Clown can do quite well with the right addons but his basekit is sorely lacking. Reload times are a significant enough hinderance to put him below a mid tier killer. I personally run VHS pr0n and solvent jug to 4ks most of the time. I don't feel he needs a large rework, I really don't want them messing with his good addons, just a few and buff his base kit.
Tattoo's middle finger needs buffed or deranked in rarity to very rare/rare.
Cheap gin to rare
cigar box to moderate effects
sulfuric acid vial should have mangled timer changed to until fully healed
kerosene can to 120 seconds
The rest are okay...I guess. If they speed up the reload time and movement speed then those respective addons should change to something more interesting like oblivious & incapacitated states.
-
@Dpooly : I do agree with you though, devotion rating should have considerable weight when it comes to whatever matchmaking algorithm they are trying to implement. More importantly for the meantime though they really need to start kissing some killer asses to get them to queue more so we can bring this queue time down for survivors.
-
@Deadeye said:
one flaw is that devotion contains killer and survivor gametime, and as mentioned already, you don't necessarily learn a lot when playing a lot. I saw survivors with a few 100 hours playing way better than survivors with 2k+. I remember that I got stuck at "learning" at some point for several 100 hours, then made a big jump after starting to watch streamers. That wouldn't be covered by devotion. Also smurfing with secondary accounts would be way too easy with devotion
besides that, as you guys mentioned queue times, it varies depending on the time of day, at least for me. early morning til afternoon is survior time with less than a minute and then turns to killer time for evening to night with killer queue times being below 1 min. respective horrible queue times when you play killer in the morning or survivor at night.
That's a very extreme example, players with less than 100 hours game time on average are going to do tremendously worse than someone with 2k hours, regardless if they've played killer or survivor more. Partly due to experience(largest part) and partly due to not grinding out perks.
This can be verified by virtually anything that takes any sort of skill. Someone who starts playing x instrument and has 100 hours clocked is likely not going to be as knowledgeable and as 'good' as someone who has 2000 hours clocked. There have been many studies about this and quite notably a paper titled: The Role of Deliberate Practice in the Acquisition of Expert Performance.
@Dpooly in certain area's the pools would need to be both larger and smaller. There is a highly probable difference between someone who is a devotion 1 player and a devotion 4 player, whereas the gap between a devotion 10 player and devotion 18 player might be much less. Then there's the issue with SWF. If you have players who're devotion 1, 4,9,12 is it then fair to assume the killer should be rounded in the devotion 6-7 range?
Edit: And then this leads to a really awful experience for killers too. Let's say you're a devotion 4 killer main and decide to try out the new killer shortly after the chapter releases. Is it still fair to put you in the same devotion category for queueing with a killer you have little to no experience of?
-
@Dpooly yeah it definitely would be a much better way of measuring skill as opposed to the current emblem system. I could be wrong here but I think one of the biggest issues right now with queue times is due to killer frustration. Not enough people want to play killer = incredibly bad waiting times for survivor. So it's definitely a balancing act of keeping killers happy to reduce queue times.
-
