Windows are holes. The killer can still hit you through them, as long as you're close enough to it. (also over top of some fences)
Right. Gotta hand it to them- if you time it and hit me, I applaud. I appreciate how difficult it is to time specific actions JUST right.

Grabs can be done while unhooking, just like you can grab a Survivor off a Gen. The rest sounds like latency.
That sounds about right, then. I just had never had it happen. Normally I see where you unhook then get downed. Thank you for the insight!

Thats the basic mentality. If killers cant catch up in 5 seconds then they are obviously bad and shouldnt be allowed to play the game with the survivor masters. As much as i love the concept of this game.....at this point i dint think this game is going to get better. The devs seem to not really care about what killer players have to say, if people good at the game say its bad they are insulted and told its bad for new players and survivors. If newer players take issue with something all we hear is "GiT gUd"
It's all mind game in looping. You have to out think the other party. It's part of the thrill. I absolutely live for the moment when a killer out thinks me and cuts me off after a decent chase. You have to want to work at the chases. You can't just walk into a loop and be good at it, it takes skill and knowledge of the maps to know which are decent and what you can get away with. Personally, if I'm making you follow me on a long loop, then I'm distracting you and you should figure out why. As far as the devs caring, I think we as the player community have to put in just as much work; there's only so much they can do by themselves.

"If I lead the killer on a decent chase and get face camped to death from that from the very start of the game, that killer prevented me literally from playing the game past that first chase."
Yea. That's how it is.... U totally deserve to die. U might of been having fun, imagine the frustration the killer went thru. Why do u gotta piss the killer off like that? Just stand still and get hit. If not, ur gonna get facecamped. Why are u so entitled?
"Quite literally, the survivor has 0 chance to PLAY the game."
If u are in the game, even if ur slugged, on hook, working on gens, running around for no reason, u are still "playing" the game. There is no such thing as ZERO chance of playing the game.
"not necessarily that impact gameplay, but that punish the survivor less for a situation completely beyond their control."
By ur definition of being punished. Everyone who plays dbd is being punished. Whatever ur trying to do here, will impact gameplay. U say ur not, but ur goal is to change the way, someone else plays the game.
Better way to look at it is, nobody is being punished. Ppl are just playing the game. There is no fair or unfair. There is no, I am not playing becuz I'm slugged, or being facecamped.
The game doesn't owe u anything. Game does not guarantee to give u "fun". And it will never be "fun" for everyone.
Death, is not an escape ....
That's why you go find another survivor... if your in a long chase you either need to outsmart them or find someone else. Otherwise your just racking up BPs and letting gens be rushed (if survivors know what they're doing).

I just got facecamped because I led the killer on a long chase. I NEVER BM or teabag, or even loiter around the exit gate (Unless it's to give the Killer free BP with one last hit) so I'm not toxic. But you still get facecamped in this game for any reason, it's not fair.
At that point, if they can't down, they should break chase and go find another survivor. I have personally lead killers on long loop chases that have allowed the others to complete several gens.

I've camped (as a new player, less than a month in this game) because it felt like my only option when I didn't understand the game, the maps, strategies, etc, very well at all. I grew frustrated with hooking players only to have a survivor speed by and unhook them, leading me on another annoying loop chase. So yeah, I'd stick around until they died.
Now after more time in the game, more perks, and more experience in general, I'm happy to roam. Camping got boring pretty quickly, so I moved on from it. Since then, as a survivor, I've can only count 1 game I had someone actual facecamp me on a hook, and it was also a new player. So, I wonder, is facecamping really that much of a common occurrence? Or just something new players feel forced to do because they have no perks, ability or know-how to counter survivors?
If it's really a common thing, then yeah I'm not against some sort of penalty - pausing or slowing the sacrifice timer sounds like a reasonable idea to me - but if it's just something new players feel forced into doing, then the devs need to work on something to help new players out instead and push them towards learning how to play differently.
At the end of the day, I don't really care. Camping is a crappy strategy but, I feel it is pretty easily countered by survivors.
As mid-rank survivor, I can say that yes, it is a big issue and not just amount the lesser ranks. Camping and slugging are both HUGE issues in the game. I don't go more than two games, easy, where I'm not either camped or slugged. It's obnoxious. This is why I cut my playtime to only a few nights a week ( 2/3) because I was getting so frustrated. It would be nice for some bonus...

I'm just getting really frustrated, I know you're not allowed to complain about a lot of stuff on the forums without getting flamed but please just bear with me, wall o' text incoming. I just got so irritated I uninstalled the game because I need to take a break clearly.
I know on paper 4 minutes doesn't sound like a long time but my duuuuude I'm so tired of just staring at my stupid dying survivor for that long over and over. I'm playing an intense, fast paced competitive game and then suddenly I might as well be staring at a windows 95 screensaver.
I hover in the border of purple/green rank and frankly don't see crazy amazing plays with d strike or unbreakable all they do is extend the chase part again for a little bit. Wouldn't you rather just like... let them do their stupid perk and eliminate it from the match so you don't have to worry about it? It seems like it wastes less time to just eat the damn d strike and move on with the match, idk. What if they don't even have it, their teammate comes and gets them up, and you lost a perfectly good chance to hook someone?
Basically every game that I wind up being one of the last two, it's just a 20+ minute extension of a match that's very much already over, because the killer just won't hook me each time. Please for the love of god, I get that you want to kill everyone, but I want to PLAY THE GAME please just let me leave and play a new match asdfj;ladkfgjadfhglaskjdfasdf
I'm not trying to be toxic, or steal the killer's points they earned or whatever, y'know? I just want to playyyyy. You got me, you downed me, you earned it, please just finish the job lol
When there's two people left, it's so unrealistic to get several gens done because the killer moves so fast you can patrol them pretty easily before one person sits there for like 90 seconds or whatever. You're the killer and you have free reign to run around, most of the time you've clearly already found the hatch. Can you please maybe just hook me by the hatch so it's impossible for the person to even get to it before you kick it? I had my first game with that situation and I was like oh my god can I jump into the hatch right behind them? No, no you can't. It really takes a sec for the whole dying animation and stuff.
Is it really so bad if one person gets out? Do we really have to double the length of the match? Why!? If I'm lucky and they do come back for me finally, at that point I'm so tired of having my time wasted that I want to crawl and hide just to waste their time in return. I'm not gonna get spiteful and hide in a random locker for ten minutes just to guarantee some sort of stalemate where you don't get points for hooking me or something. And hell, you get the crows if you try.
Seriously, not understanding why. Is it pipping? I'm so tired of people worrying about rank, my friends are constantly letting this arbitrary number next to their name define the experience. Good fun crazy match but "WHAT I depipped for that??" Who caressss lol did you enjoy the match? I refuse to pay attention to pipping because all it seems to do is annoy or stress people out.
Hell it seems like the higher you get in ranks, the less fun most people have. Sounds like you're almost forced to use DS/etc because the killer feels forced to use their craziest perks.
It's not points, is it? Is it just the pride of the 4k? When I play killer, 3k/4k is about the same amount of points, I dunno. I think it's fun to let the last person escape and stuff like that. Maybe because I main survivor and I know how exciting and fun and silly that can be? I factor in the survivor's experience, but I assume most people don't really factor in other people's fun to their game. Gotta win, gotta rank up, even if you hold the game hostage and slug me for 3 minutes and 50 seconds for both my hooks at the end because god forbid one person gets an exciting hatch escape.
Plus, the scramble to find the hatch when you know the last survivor is trying to find the hatch but they also have to try to be stealth? It's a thrill! Come on!
I just wanna have a bleed out faster option or something. I dunno. Wouldn't it be a noble moment to sacrifice yourself in the name of your teammate getting out hopefully?
It's weird because everyone talks about the game being survivor sided and how they gotta play killer savagely because of ds/unbreakable/adrenaline etc. Adrenaline feels like a big gamble, you're spending an entire perk slot on the gamble that you're going to get all the gens done, AND you're gonna be one of the people still alive at that point. High risk, high reward. Seems fine. I feel like some perks can't be balanced for all levels of play, and it's weird reading forums because it seems like everyone is red rank and only sees the game at that level.
One single unbreakable very rarely changes the outcome of the match when I see it. If I bring it I get irritated because 95% of the time I have wasted my perk slot. I was feeling similar about d strike but I tried to change my view of it more positively, watching that little perk timer after I get unhooked fills me with a certain sense of confidence and recklessness that I enjoy. Unbreakable just tends to be bad luck and I am never slugged (which to my point is fine by me, I just hate having to waste a perk slot just to make sure. Or on the rare occasion it works and I get up, it's rarely some endgame amazing clutch comeback it's like saving me from doom.
On that note, this is probably even lamer of a complaint but I'm so tired of BBQ & chili. I feel like getting to see the entire team every time the killer gets an inevitable hook really punishes me for no reason. Pair it with either nurses or tinkerer and I feel like you just get to keep constant tabs on basically everyone. I guess I just like successful stealth play, because it's not like I can actually win chases and get away unless the killer is truly bad. Also maybe it's because of the bloodpoints boost, I think the real problem is I'm tired of BBQ and chili because quite literally everyone uses it. It's basically a guarantee, if I see someone go down I feel like I have to sprint at them to go for aggressive within 40m hooksave focused play, or I have to hide in a locker, or I have to run a fake direction for 4 seconds, or whatever. I feel like I'm being punished because my teammate got caught, it feels bad.
I can see how aura perks are necessary, but at my level of play killers win chases pretty quickly and for free against most of us... combine that with not being able to be very stealthy, it just again feels bad.
Honestly everything about bubba including that perk leaves a bad taste in my mouth. That's the other time I really have a hard time wanting to play the match. Hurr durr chainsaw feels like the most braindead thing in the game. Wow you really outplayed me bud, what a fun chase where you just ran at me and pressed the chainsaw button because I wasn't lucky enough to be near a good jungle gym window. Zzz... Feels like that killer doesn't have nuance or counterplay like everyone else.
I think the game is inherently really hard to balance, 4v1 is a really weird unique structure that requires a level of imbalance. And then competitive games at high levels and low levels are so different you often can't balance things between the two.
It's weird hovering in the middle ranks because I see some of the red rank complaints, but also don't understand a lot of it. Complete facecamping is a nightmare and boring for everyone, but in general the expectations people have of killers to never camp or tunnel is funny at times. It's like you're contractually obligated to hook someone and then you have to go to the opposite corner of the map.
And then when they get the unhook you can't come back to the very obviously guaranteed two survivors. Everyone plays this weird assumption where you get a free unhook and you heal right under the hook, as if the killer isn't allowed to use the momentum of a hook to their advantage? People get all mad at you for moving away from the hook after getting unhooked. Look, I want to just break line of sight so if I see them coming it's not a free second hook. It is funny when I unhook a rando and they just RUN for a long time. But at that point I'm just like "okay you want to get away more than be healed, whatever" you know?
*deep breath*
Okay done whining. Thanks for the vent space. I am clearly getting to that point I think everyone gets to, where the frustrating parts are outweighing the positives and then everything gets blown out of proportion and negative. Glad I'm noticing it, gonna take a break, come back with a more solution-oriented mindset to the problems I'm having.
I 100% get the frustration. I played a few days ago and without exaggerating I had 4 games in a row where I wasn't hooked but bled to death because the killer slugged me.. one match had all 4 survivors slugged in under 5 minutes ( say what you will, the killer was high ranked against survivor who were only low to mid rank). I've also had several killers hook a second to last survivor for phase 2 and then slug the last so the last bleeds out. It's frustrating. At least if there's ahook there's a chance of jumping off, even if the baseline is 4%.

As a survivor main, I can understand where this comes from. I see a lot of games in the lower ranks where we fly through the gens, 99 gates and wait out the count.
BUT in higher rank games, it's more often than not we just slide by barely making it. I've seen more than 80% when there's a hook after EGC that we're unable to save and have to make the call to leave or to save. And that's if we even make it to EGC.
While I think that adding in killer gen interactions besides smashing them and the potential to close a gate is a good idea, I don't necessarily think it would be fully required. Maybe add limitations to it? You (the killer) may close the gate in the last 3ed of the EGC? For generators you may reverse the status if its more than half way complete but abandoned OR there are 2 left to be completed. That way the survivor can preform any unhooks for the rift challenges but still feel the pressure and add the extra push to keep the game moving.

Thanks, the solo survivor red ranks is kinda the last accomplishment I am trying for.
No problem! You'll get red, just have fun while doing it~ it is a game after all. Might as well enjoy it.

Thanks, I'm trying
I practically only play solo, and in a set of 12+ games, I'm lucky to survive 2, whether gen and gate completion or killer mercy. If I play solo and climb ranks solo so everything I have I've earned. If you don't "survive 70, 80%" don't feel bad. The truth is you will face a ton of hardcore do-it-for-the-killer killers, especially in the evening and MOST solo survivors won't stick their necks out. But keep your chin up, there's some of us out there who will pull our weight with a "team mentality"!

He's not super strong or anything (he's not weak either though) but man does he make games incredibly unenjoyable between all the random garbage happening in my ears and the screen constantly.
Don't even get me started on 3 gens where he won't commit to anything. The dude frequently makes games like 30+ minutes due to not committing to any chases and doesn't even end up getting any kills half the time.
For someone who is hard of hearing, I do agree that he makes the game hard to play from an audio standpoint. The static and the screaming make him one of my least favorite to go against.
When I face a doc who just kind of waits like that, I see survivors who will actually go and seek him out! But, once that happens, it's all down hill from there. Unless you have a "divide and conquer" team, you won't get out with anything more that death or sacrifice.

Has any one else been experiencing spawing just a few meters away from the killer within their vision? It has a been a few times this week and it's not exactly great :/
That is super unfortunate! I always hate when I'm "caught" in under the first 60 seconds but to spawn right there? You'd think that there would be coding to prevent this kind of thing from occuring.
While never directly next to the killer, I have spawn withing the terror radius and have gone down withing the first 30 seconds of the game more than once, so, I understand your frustrations!

Pretty much this. I play on the EU servers, and early morning/afternoon, the games are so chill. Survivors are actually fun to VS, killers are more relaxed. The game is actually fun. But then as soon as it hits evening, the SWF squads hit the scene, and suddenly every killer is injecting adrenaline into their veins as the survivors begin to hoard keys, and killers prepare their moris.
Us based: I do agree, in the midmorning/ afternoons, even as a solo player there is WAY more co-op between survivors. Sure you get it with evenings but once you're hooked you're pretty mush out of luck. Rarely in evening games (say, after 8) do you see teams of random players actually cooperate and complete gens or distractions. While I haven't run into key hording or mori's, I have noticed that just general bs play occurs ( I'm looking at the Dr who insta killed the survivor he threw at my feet while I was on the hook yesterday).

Also reduce the amount of pallets, make them more of a resource you have to consider not running out of. Players will learn to preserve pallets.
As a survivor main, I've seen a LOT of others use them poorly- dropping them for no reason or with little thought. I actually support the idea of reducing them in specific maps. Personally, I rarely use pallets unless the killer is actually going to be hit OR there is a valid reason for distraction.
-
It sounds like you're just running into a bunch of toxic survivors. All the games that I've ever played I've had to work my tail off to loop killers and 9/10 I still end up on the hook. Personally, from someone who prefers playing survivor, I think having something that slows me down with hits would turn me off the game- unless you are near a decent loop or already have and escape route planned then you're essentially dead in the water if the killer chases, especially of the team is a "me- myself- and- I" team.
It may be a better option to be a hide and seek style as an option where you can choose this style of play vs normal play? But have limited perks to choose from, kind of like how in custom games you can choose. But make the ones available balance out so that no one side necessary has an upper hand outside of strategy and skill.
-
The *occasional* game where the killer (face) camps doesn't kill vibes. It's when you play and you get 6/7/8 or more games back to back that have a camper that make it frustrating for survivors. Especially when you get downed in the first minute or less of the game.
The looping though is how you know you're gaining skill as a survivor. If you get good at loops, you can be a decent enough distraction and buy time for other. In my opinion it's how you know that you're actually getting good with the survivor you're playing- you can loop a killer from more than 10 seconds without being downed.
I think looping can be rewarding for both sides, especially after a survivor has ran for an extended period and the killer outsmarts and downs. Personally the adrenaline rush is 100% why I loop and totally worth it.
