From what I've seen, pretty much all content creators agree that this nerf is way too heavy handed, and the ones that don't like SM admit that the only reason they're fine with these changes is because they dislike the killer, not because the changes are reasonable. I don't think the majority of the community wants her to be totally and utterly useless, people are just fed up with the current version.

If they rework her, they need to do something to freshen people's view on her. New terror radius, new base skin, new trailer, new walk cycle, the more the better. Once they've made an actually decent power to play as and against they need to distance the new version from the old in more ways than just her power. Otherwise, her terrible reputation will remain and people will STILL be inclined to give up against her, even if she was genuinely fun now.

Okay, lets just get this out of the way: Many content creators and their parrots (bird-brains that repeat words without understanding) do indeed want her useless out of subjective reasons and spite, much of what they say is a front. Hell you even confirmed it yourself when you said they agree the changes are unreasonable but they're fine with it cause they dislike her. Don't get me wrong, i dont like the lore and base appearance of Skull Merchant either, i dont even like her gameplay that much (i merely think the outcry is way out of proportion given that she isn't that strong nor even the most annoying to play against imo, that title belongs to Legion), but i don't let it cloud my judgement or even worse act out of pure pettiness.

Also what about the Trickster rework? That was a bad precedent, he got nerfed to hell and much of his skill and uniqueness taken way, including a lot of undocumented shadow-nerfs, the 4,6 meter buff was something many if not most Trickster mains did not even want. He got put aside, all because Trickster was hated by much of the community for not unsimilar reasons, though the mindless crying was not nearly as bad.

And im not even gonna talk about what they did to the Twins, Freddy or Sadako.

Remember that it can happen to the Killers you like too.

    please keep it

For 3 years it was the worst perk in dbd history and now it could actually be a amazing perk

Predator has been bad since 2016, so it should make survivors start in the dying state, increase generators that need to be repaired to 1000, give permanent aura reading and instant mori like Myers tombstone.

Would be fine according to that reasoning you gave…

  • Honestly its very funny to think that quite a few of the survivors would absolutely beat Frank up, if DBD was even remotely realistic then that would happen if Nic and him meet:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SaN7BpJ9pM
  • Yes it says its a horror video game in the same picture that shows Legion…

  • Its been a ring around the rosie simulator since 2017, where have you been?

  • I havent played it, is Legion enabled? I remember last time it was probably the most popular Killer and it was annoying as hell, if Legion is available but Freddy isnt im not gonna touch DBD for this event.

  • Problem is remember how often and for how long they delayed the twins rework only to release one of the biggest abominations that were ever in a PTB? I'm afraid of what will happen to Skull Merchant, and the worst thing is that the content creators and their mindless parrots will try to ruin it even if she would be objectively the most balanced and healthiest killer in the game.

Listen, I'm very sorry that this is happening to Skull Merchant, and I can tell that you are truly passionate about her which I can respect, but there's also a time to know when to give something up. It's unfortunate but it happens.

Im not passionate about her, i did not even complain about the nerfs and said that its temporary, i would be okay with them if there was a chance of her rework turning out for the better without being ruined by petty community hostility (which is EXTREMELY unlikely unless we have a talk about this topic, i will get to it), but since you tried to apologize (even if its for something that isn't even real) i will not be patronizing for once.

What im trying to tell you is this:

The worrisome part is that content creators will rally people against her rework in 2025 no matter what it is because they groomed so many of their parrots into hating her that no matter how good and healthy for the game she could become because they are either afraid of backlash by the very hive-minded audience they are responsible for bringing into existance or groomed by their audience into being incapable of having an open mind about it.

You are an example, you tried to argue against Skull Merchant becoming healthy for the game, advocating for her deletion over subjective aspects and based on false information such her amount of reworks or the supposed damage to BHVRs brand, i know you did not come up with these lies, do you see where the problem is? You dont advocate for balance and health of the game, you tried to convince BHVR to a delete something other people like out of spite fueled by misinformation.

Do you see why its unacceptable and why content creators should seriously reconsider their approach on this topic and the community as a whole?

There is a serious conversation we need to have as a community on the negative affect of the hive-mind behavior of the community and the content creators that fuel then appease them.

I looked her up on the Wiki and I see a wall of text full of changes across multiple versions and this upcoming one.

You failed to read again. The "rework" before 7.3.0 was a temporary change, not a rework, just like this change is also supposed to be a temporary relieve till her 2nd rework, and just so we are clear here, here is quick math.

    2-1=1

Skull Merchant had one major rework, the one scheduled for 2025 is her second, this contradicts your statement which you took from someone not knowing better than basic math.

  • @DaRule said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3797978#Comment_3797978

Unfortunately for 99% of people, perception is reality. BHVR doesn't really have a way to force the community to accept her, and its not skull merchants actively bringing money into the game and keeping it operational. They have reworked her so many times now that the devs themselves are probably sick and tired of wasting their time on her. Even with reworks, she will always be actively disliked and BHVR would truly be better off reworking and adding more skins for killers that are iconic and reputable like Freddy.

She got 1 major rework in patch 7.3.0, the other one was meant to be a temporary change. The talking point about her "many" reworks is something you also just picked up from someone who didnt know what he was talking about. A perfect example of what im talking about, you could not even be bothered to check.

"Even with reworks, she will always be actively disliked…", please read my post more carefully so you dont repeat my points, otherwise we will be talking in circles.

Unfortunately no matter what BHVR has done to try to address her issues, players are simply unwilling to accept her in the game and that might be tough for SM mains to hear, but I'm sure you knew the free DC wins were going to dry up eventually.

With how unlikeable she is, you either gut her entirely or you delete her from the game — there is no in-between. Her reputation is permanently tarnished and irreparably damaging to the DBD brand at this point. Luckily there are many other killers for people to learn to main and new ones are continuously made available.

The first one is just an hive mind issue, a decent rework could easily turn it around IF content creators would go into it with an open mind and ignore the portion of the community that dislikes her for her appearance/lore, but thats not gonna happen because content creators often get groomed into having stances they might not agree with otherwise, its a two way street, but im not gonna go into it to much for now cause the next part is, somehow, even further from reality.

Also she "damaged" the brand? Are you active in any other community? I'm active in R6, For Honor, Warhammer 40k and more, and you know what damaged the brand? The community, the communities i have mentioned are by themselves quite toxic but the one thing they all agree on its that it could be worse, DBD is often a negative example mentioned in those for a variety of reasons, and thats ignoring the damage BHVR did themselves by launching astoundingly buggy patches, 2v8 was buggy as all hell with broken maps and not only did they released it, they were unironically greedy and arrogant enough to do so with a free week attached to it, that damaged its brand way more by introducing new players to a unbelievable bugfest. No one who isn't quite familiar with DBD knows who Skull Merchant is, and the players who have a distinct hate for her from the 3 gen meta must be atleast in the game for around a year or talk about something they themselves have not experienced.

We also see similar instances of hive-mind behavior at play when it comes to topics such as slugging, no matter what the statistics say, a huge part of the community thinks that its a rampant issue when all numbers released contradict it, yet jump on the bandwagon, the vast majority (and i mean way over 90%, not the ones who actually run into spectacularly bad luck streaks, that happens) who tell you its happening more in 10% of their games is, is lying or delusional, the statistics released by BHVR leaves little else.

You wasnt in this game to see that Lara was flying through walls. I have a program that records whole game.

He actually believes you, its just he makes a joke about EAC being useless. And as someone who is sadly playing R6 Siege and Apex, i can agree EAC has a tendency to be completely overrun often. So is DBD.

  • Bad lore, overexposure and the famous "getting preferential treatment when it comes to skins compared to characters that get less because Behavior gives them less because they are less popular cycle."

  • Im going to say it: Still SIght, Dramaturgy, Plot Twist, Chemical Trap and Light Footed are underrated.

  • Bat Form in chase is actually quite underrated imo, it has its niches, it requires practice and good reading on opponents to work though.

Still i think it could get some buffs, like especially the sound could get reduced and teleportation range increased a bit.

Another buff i could think of is to reduce bat forms cooldowns when within a few meters of a survivor to encourage using it in chase.

  • Its effect is pretty much useless, you'd get more progress just doing the gen or doing something else, however its still in almost all my builds for shenanigans.

So 2% faster means approximately 17 and 28% respectively, correct? That’s not a big difference. Not sure it means DT is radically weaker than old MFT was. Especially since you aren’t considering other factors that made MFT riskier than DT. But moving on…

To make boons destructible as a basekit for killers they’d need to have much stronger effects (chiefly map-wide). I get the feeling you wouldn’t be on board with that.

Yes thats exactly what i said. No need to repeat.

It scared the crap outta me.

Yes Hoarder alerts zombies, many perks that produce loud noise notification on both sides do.

On Killer side there is: Discordance, Call of Brine, Make your Choice, Hangmans Trick, Tinkerer

On survivor side there is: Deception, Diversion, Red Herring.

There might be more that im not entirely sure of.

It's 1% in flat numbers, but it's effectively 33% weaker, so it's not a small difference.

Its amazing how many in this community cant do basic math, 3% faster means roughly 20% more time to catch up for 115% Killers and 33% for 110% Killers. Everytime there is a haste perk gets released it gets sad and hilarious.

Besides, i do believe boons should be reworked, they should be destroyed instead of just snuffed similar to Hex Perks, that allows us to buff them. It was kinda stupid that back then there were boons more powerful than many Hex Perks that you could just throw down again unlike Hex perks which were lost permanently.

We can pick our poison, im not sure which one i like more:

    1. Boons totems get destroyed but can be reapplied, this would mean they can be buffed only slightly.
    2. Boons perks get permanently deactivated when the totem is destroyed, they can no longer be reapplied but the effect of the boon can be buffed severely.

What's so wrong with the wolf? I saw a little gameplay and it looks like the wolf has two lunges, and lots of mobility, even gaining mobility from these orb things.

There is nothing wrong with the wolf form by itself, other than the lack of own mori and an AWOOO button. Plus i can turn into the wolf and get pets by survivor if i feel like goofing around.

The Bat form has its problems, its WAY to loud, so loud in fact that the Devs implemented a 50% boost to hearing survivors footsteps and its still often difficult.

  • I enjoy it but the Devs didn't answer the most important question:

Is there a way we can keep the main menu music?

”Prioritise injured survivors over downs at the early game.”

what do you mean by this?

    Thank you!

Injuring survivors gains a lot more blood for your power bar then downing/hooking.

For example, if you see multiple survivors on a generator (Discordance is great for him too btw) you can try to injure 2 instead of trying to dedicate to the first person to down them. If you see someone where a chase might be difficult, bait him out of LOS then leave and find someone near a gen that where a hit is far easier and likely.

  • Not an Oni main but i play him occasionally, here is what i learned:

You can perform quite a few mind games by sprinting into a wall and manipulating the red stain, it works if you predict the survivors right.

Dont stack gen regression, use atleast one tracking and anti heal perk to make sure you both get more frequent access to your power and more value out of them (Spies from the Shadow is extremely underrated since many sprint early). Stealth perks also have a lot of uses for him. like Trail of Torment, Unforeseen, Monitor and Abuse (these -8m make a MASSIVE difference when approaching someone outside of a chase).

Use SWF against people, you can get a lot of hits by simply leaving someone when the survivor is out of sight, sprinting towards a generator you know nowheres at only to turn around quickly while being erratic etc.

Do not get baited into chases especially near main buildings or shack, move on quickly and get someone out of position for free hits/blood, VERY important early game when you dont have access to your power.

Prioritise injured survivors over downs at the early game.

Even if they are changing her it's gonna be, effectively, pointless unless they do a total overhaul of her power design since, regardless of how she's reworked otherwise, people are still gonna complain.

I have been in the community since 2018 and let me tell you: They are gonna hate her regardless, if you think there is even a slight chance of it not happening then you vastly overestimate the average DBD player, like to give you an example, over 90% of the community never understood how the hatch spawn worked back in the day, it was literally just fixing the generators for the same amount of survivors alive plus one.

Unsurprisingly it took 3 YEARS until content creators actually explaining this very hard formula when hatch changes were already announced for the community to finally comprehend it. I wish i could make this up.

In other words: If big streamer says she is bad for a purely subjective reason that is rather personal taste for the streamer (or them simply refusing to give her a chance with an open mind) , over 90% of the community will hate her with no thought behind it.

they need to get rid of the constant in-game wallhacks. on the contrary hillbilly's chainsaw should be an instadown again. it should be concerning why huntress is more effective than both hillbilly and nurse in this mode. just the fact that there's another killer to force survivors out of cover makes her too strong.

With getting rid of the constant in-game wallhacks, you are talking about scout right? The perk that makes Trapper unviable?

  • Huntress isn't the problem, its everything else.

Trapper: Weak for 6 years, never got the rework he needed in favor of random buffs, 2v8 is extremely stressful for him especially when facing multiple scouts.

Hillbilly: Overnerfed for this gamemode on top of being difficult, also map dependant and sometimes outclassed by Wraith.

Nurse: High skill floor, but even with the buffs she is so uncomfortable to play for so many people that for years most meta sweatlords rather play weaker Killers like Blight or Spirit instead.

Wraith: Not necessarily much wrong with him but rather boring compared to most Killers, no access to his more fun add-ons.

It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that Huntress is by FAR the most popular character in this gamemode.

  • It only takes a single survivor taking the scout class and everyone can see you placing your traps and either avoid or disarm them easily.

The traps are still scattered around giant maps so it takes an eternity to set up.

Man i wonder why few people play Trapper and the few who want to resort to such strategies? I bet it doesn't have to do with the fact we have been asking for a Trapper rework for like 6 years now. But BHVR pretends that removing traps from the ground and letting him get his traps like Huntress/Trickster out of the locker would be extremely OP.

  • @Yggleif said:

So Trapper is doing Trapper things?

At least killers are understanding the soloQ experience now lol.

And survivors getting the toxic premade squad experience judging by the amount of videos and screenshot by Killers slugging and proxy camping/turbo tunneling someone together.

Beautiful isn't it? I would hope that people will understand the other side a bit more after the event is done, but im not stupid and understand that its not gonna happen cause this is the DBD community, there is no hope.

  • @Nazzzak said:

Not gonna lie, I've quite enjoyed the obvious surprise from those trying to camp when the cage moves lol they stop and just stare like 'huh??'

I saw multiple Killers trying to proxy camp, when they do that literally just stand in front of it and teabag to provoke them to get closer so the cage disappears, it worked twice.

  • Sorry but many original Killers aren't scary and a bad fit for DBD too. Peak horror for me is the Doctor, he is by far the scariest Killer they ever made.

Also you do know Trickster and Legion are in this game right? Where is the horror? I never got scared, they most of the time get a sigh when i see them, even my first matches against them back when they released (and Legion chapter made me delete DBD for a while, almost gave up entirely).

  • @ReverseVelocity said:

I mean DBD adding Alan Wake got me to buy Alan Wake 2 and Alan Wake Remastered when they were on sale. Great games, would recommend. Second one's way better though.

Although, I think you're the first person I've seen that has an issue with how Pinhead is implemented into DBD. I think he's incredibly faithful in terms of how he plays. Lore wise, I think him and the entity have a mutually beneficial relationship. The entity feeds off of suffering, he likes inflicting suffering.

I don't think he's doing the entity's bidding specifically, it's just they have the same goals intrinsically. They both love hooks too. It's a win-win.

Dont get me wrong, Pinhead is my second main, i love how he is implemented from a mechanical and style standpoint, i even go so far to say that is he is the most balanced and healthiest Killer for the game despite his underserved reputation as a pub stomper which could be alleviated with a few touches.

I think its the way BHVR integrated him with the lore is kinda bad but i think it wasnt even completely up to them, in the first two movies he is not a Killer that runs around killing people in the same way say many other licensed characters are, he even has some strict rules and ethics he abides by but we never actually see or hear any of it for example.

  • Wasnt there a 5v5 mode in the survey? That looked the most interesting to me.

Unless you are playing against a group that includes Nancy and Wraith mains…

  • @ReverseVelocity said:

Grip Wrench already did that. They just added an extra 5 seconds to the timer. That's it.

  • I would actually like to see such a power as a Freddy rework, he is in the game for a long time, has been very neglected, being one of the least picked Killers. He already has fake pallets, so giving him more fake items would be arguably easier than creating a new character based around it.

Hi I meant like the survivers begging for their life like " please don't hook me" or a " no no no" kind of interaction nothing to crazy just an idea.

Voice lines are one thing, but voice coms in this community?

Lets not pretend it will not end up with the Killer being called the N word by some pre teens (and, sadly, adults acting like them) for the most minor inconvenience or Killer pick, or other survivors getting shouted at using that word for the most minor mistake.

Best thing would be a ping system like Apex Legends or R6 Siege has, but ingame chat or voice comms will almost certainly end up in a catastrophe.

  • Thats nothing, i was playing survivor on swamp, the killer wanted to give me hatch and we both were looking for so long i just gave up and let the Killer hook me to finally end the game.

  • We can either have the killswitch actually working, and being used often, frequent and very fast or we need to start banning heavily for exploits. We can't have both the Devs unwilling to apply the banhammer and not have a killswitch (I mean it technically exists but if its not being used on game breaking exploits then we can ignore its existance, its pointless to even mention it).

Seriously, give everyone who uses exploits like a minimum of 2-4 weeks and simply ban 10-20% of them at random permanently so the sentiment of "If i get caught, whatever, its just a temp ban" will be crushed.

  • Lethal Pursuer, there are a couple good perks that can give you reliable information at the beginning of a game and give more consistant value through the entire match.

I also have grown to despise corrupt intervention, while there is little wrong with the perk itself 8/10 when i see it its a A or S tier Killer tunneling the first person they see, sweating like its a tournament final.

  • It was actually changed. All other stuns like Head On deactivated it too but DS did not which was most likely a bug since it makes no sense.

She was meant to lose her power on any stun if i remember correctly.

  • First situation is unfortunate since the timing allowed it, arguably sweaty from the killer but nothing toxic.

But the second one is 100% the survivors fault. Either Haddie tried to do a save and messed up badly and got downed very quickly, or ran up to Leon while getting chased instead of away from him which would have allowed an easy heal. Also him hooking and returning to Leon is not the Killers fault either since he knows 3 people if not all of them must be around and he went for you not Leon so it was not tunneling either.

    Its a skill issue.

  • Remnant is currently fine as it is, either it stays the way it is or it gets a rework.

Nightfall effects could be changed a bit, while i personally love it and makes the Dredge scary, its also an accessibility nightmare imo, he can be changed in other ways to compensate.

More and better locker spawns (also helps with survivors and some Killers).

    Some more optional ideas:

Make Malthinkers Skull partially basekit then nerf its effect to compensate.

Footprints are now visible while teleporting similar to Xenomorph using tunnels.

Manually entering lockers now circumvents any cooldown (its a feature with no purpose currently).

  • Its not a good idea to nerf the Unknown UVX. Its already used by to many Unknown players in the most boring way possible - to hit survivors only when they are locked in animations like dropping pallets and vaulting windows. I like this aspect, its definitely niche and requires quite some skill to pull of atleast.

  • 7-10 hooks, not necessarily kills.

Place power at loop, Survivor must leave and take a hit or die.

    Punishes you for teammates errors.

    Forces you into lose-lose scenarios.

Removes almost all skill expression as Survivor.

Still holds down 3-gens extremely well.

Has the most slapped together power of all time. 80% of people have no clue what it does and I can't blame them.

Exemplifies holding W and pre-running playstyle, resulting in drawn out matches.

Completely anecdotal, but every SM I've played against since her rework has been an absolutely toxic human being. I 100% believe she attracts the worst people in the community

Almost all of your points apply to Dredge as well, he forces survivors to leave loops in a way that mostly removes skill expression, promotes holding W, punishes the entire team with Nightfall (which, unlike SM is also an accessibility issue) and holds 3 gens based on locker positions, his 3 gens don't even need to be close together, just 3 gens close to lockers. And his power also has a lot of moving parts.

Are you gonna be consistant enough to complain about Dredge just as much now? You also DC against most Skull Merchants so how can you tell that most of them are toxic when you aren't even around to see it, it makes no sense.

  • @Venusa said:

I respect their opinion but a popular streamer's opinion doesn't overwrite the majority of community's opinion. So presenting this as the one and only fact is funny. There were people even defending 3-Gen Merchant with their lives too. Some people loved shaming survivors for wanting to go next instead of staying stuck in a 50 minute match but somehow never judged the "strategy" of a killer keeping survivors hostage. Survivors get blamed for everything.

    1. You completely ignore how much of the communities opinion is based around content creators, even those who aren't watching them will likely hear them sooner or later by someone blindly parroting them, i don't really watch any content creators except for a very few and i still hear a lot of others who i seriously can't be bothered to watch their videos/streams like Scott Jund for example.
    2. The ones defending Skull Merchant were in the extreme minority, and the claim that 3 Genning was never condemned or shamed is COMPLETELY made up by you, just see the community reception on this. Hell its mostly fixed and STILL people associate her with this to this day, proven by your post. The complaints about her 3 genning are some of the most frequent things you can find, still some of the videos with the highest view count on youtube regarding SM, BHVR gave her one of the fastest reworks ever and nerfed 3 gens after. And if your point is that a few ones who defended it were a problem then you're a hypocrit based on the first sentence of your post.
    3. An opinion isn't more right because its held by a group rather than an individual, thats not how anything works, its the experience and arguments that matter. If only 2-3% play against or as her enough to comfortably say they understand her mechanics than the 97% doesn't matter in any way since they are unable to give any meaningful input, its like saying someones input about treatment of diseases is just as valid as the one of a specialized doctor because he also got a human body even if he doesn't even know what what a skeleton looks like.
1 2 3 4 … 10
