The nostalgia. Look at that and imagine Mikey staring at you silently in that foggy darkness. The game had real horror vibes back then.
Or the singing of children, marking the Dream Demon's arrival.
DBD really needs its horror vibes back, it was so good! I thought we were going in the right direction with All Things Wicked, but it seems I was mistaken.

Freddy also had constant aura reading on any sleeping survivors so mind games rarely worked on him. Plus I'm pretty sure his swinging chains add on when paired with thanatophobia was pretty broken. If they want to give him his old power then they need to remove the passive sleep timer.
Freddy also had constant aura reading on any sleeping survivors so mind games rarely worked on him.
Only when outside his TR. To use it for mindgames you would have to run RPB + M&A, thus reducing his TR to zero when outside of a chase. But that is no different than Mirror Myers, except it is more fun.
Plus I'm pretty sure his swinging chains add on when paired with thanatophobia was pretty broken.
You're thinking of Jump Rope + Swing Chains from post-rework. Original Swing Chains slightly increased the action speed only after you were pulled into the Dream World for a second time. And if you miss a skill check the penalty is gone.
If they want to give him his old power then they need to remove the passive sleep timer.
I agree completely.

Hard to believe it is the same game that once looked like this:

I use to main Jeff back in the beginning. Because well, I main Legion since day one. Then I started maining Jonah. Both Jeff and Jonah have a "cool" biker vibe going, maybe only I can see.
But now, I main Vittorio. Because he is the essence of wicked biker "cool". AND he's magical like a wizard. .... AND since Sable. I -ship Vitty and Sable. (Don't judge me)
I ship Sable with Mikaela, to be honest. The power of love reuniting them in the Entity's realm is a nice concept, imo.

Oh i like current freddy despite him being rather weak. But its more down to generator speeds compared to his cooldowns and his add ons being lackluster.
But i wouldve probably never mained him if he was in his original state.I disagree completely, but that is okay. We had a respectful discussion :)

Not to mention how you couldn't even flashlight save because to awake Survivors Freddy was invisible while carrying someone. While it was funny watching teammates be carried away by nothing trying to save them was such a chore. I think he was immune to pallet stuns unless he was stunned by a sleeping survivor.

He has a lullaby which makes his stealth aspect null and void anyway. So i dont count that. And the 50% speed penalty was global during the whole trial? I guess yeah that would be a buff but this will likely never happen. Just look at the recent changes, its clear which side is favored.
But the lullaby isn't directional, and back then it used to play for awake survivors, not those who are asleep.
This is original description from his very first power, the one most Freddy mains want to return:
- -Survivors who are awake do not see The Nightmare.
- -Once targeted by The Nightmare's Power, Survivors enter the Dream Transition for 7 seconds.
- -During the Dream Transition they can see The Nightmare intermittently.
- -When the Dream Transition has elapsed, the Survivor is pulled into the Dream World.
Once in the Dream World:
- -Survivors' Auras are revealed to The Nightmare whenever they are outside of his Terror Radius.
- -Survivors suffer an Action speed penalty of -50 %.
- -To exit the Dream World, Survivors can find other non-sleeping Survivors to perform a Wake-up action.
- -Failed Skill Checks can wake up the Survivor.
- -Getting hooked wakes up the Survivor.
And this, if I may share it, is my proposal for him:
-Survivors who are awake do not see The Nightmare.
-Once targeted by The Nightmare’s power, survivors enter the Dream Transition for 7 seconds.
-During the Dream Transition Survivors can see The Nightmare intermittently and they suffer from the Incapacitated status effect.
-When the Dream Transition Lapse, the Survivor is pulled into the Dream World.
Once in the Dream World:
-Survivor’s auras are revealed to The Nightmare when they are outside of his terror radius.
-Survivors suffer an action speed penalty of 40%.
-To exit the Dream World, Survivors can find non-sleeping Survivors to perform a wake up action.
-Failed Skill Checks can also wake up.
-Hooked Survivors wake up.
Special Ability: Dream Projection
-Teleport to a Generator in view. Releasing the button early will cancel the action.
-Survivors cannot interact with the targeted Generator.
“You have nothing to worry about. This won’t hurt one… little… bit.”-Freddy Krueger
If the 50% penalty is too much then I say we nerf it but keep his mobility. The Incapacitated status effect solves the problem of being unable to interrupt survivors and then he should be golden!

By how fast gens get done it would nerf him into oblivion if he couldnt hit without them being in the dream world.
7 seconds of Dream Transition in exchange for an easier approach, an easier first hit, 50% action speed penalty and unlimited aura reading once outside his TR isn't a nerf. It is a buff, honestly.
Though, to be fair, almost anything would be a buff to current Freddy.

Least thing i would want is to have to put people into some state before i can even hit them, it sounds horrible.
Least thing they could do is at least fix his snares.. They are bugged and inconsistend as hell. I was always a dream pallet freddy and stopped playing him all together when survivors became aware about predropping pallets.Take it from the voice of the Nightmare: it wasn't bad. The only problem was being unable to interrupt survivors during the Dream Transition, but that could easily be fixed by giving him the Incapacitated status effect.

For your sake, may you never get a Whiskers again.
Good were the days when this killer didn't exist.

Funnily enough, I bought the ANOES Chapter together with the base game, so I did get to use Pharmacy throughout the years.

Not to mention you can't suicide on hook if your aren't hooked... Freddy was playing normally at the start of the game. Hooked the Steve, and started another chase.
Didn't ask him, but maybe he considered me and Jane bullies, as I've been told by people in this forum I should just let SoH survivors leave. Maybe he took issue with the attempted SoH and me and Jane denying it. He slugged us with the Dwight on hook, so he died on hook, and bled out the rest of us.
I vehemently disagree on letting SoHers leave, it is always in your interest to unhook, but it's not inconceivable I got slugged for being "toxic" myself.
I don't consider sticking up for a principle toxic however. I am more than happy to get slugged for 4 mins to ensure a SoHer can't quickly escape to go ruin more games.
Wait, suicide on hook against Freddy?!?
But he barely has anything.
-
Yeah, Freddy is in a bad spot right now. He has been in a bad spot for the last five years.
First with a power that was unhealthy for the game, and then with a power that is both weak AND unhealthy for the game.
And don't get me wrong, you can still win with Freddy:
The matchmaking probably wasn't fair here, but even if it had been the problem is that you don't get to have fun while playing this killer, regardless if you win or lose.
But I have hope Freddy will get his dework at some point and we will get Old Freddy back! Finally we will have fun again!

I don't miss old Freddy at all. You had to wait for people to fall asleep after you used your power to even hit them. Plus unhooks were super easy to do because Freddy couldn't down you again until you fell asleep again.
You had to wait for people to fall asleep after you used your power to even hit them.
That isn't a bad thing though. Plenty of opportunities for easier hits with Dream Transition mindgames or Block add-ons.
Plus unhooks were super easy to do because Freddy couldn't down you again until you fell asleep again.
And that can easily be fixed by giving him the Incapacitated status effect during the Transition. The movement to bring back Old Freddy has always included a few QoL improvements to fix his issues.

Don’t hate me for this but I think Forever Freddy before they gutted him to his current pitiful state was the most boring. It was such a slog of a match when the player equipped every add-on and perk slot with a slowdown.
Not that it justified his brutal slaughtering, it was just soooooo tedious.
Don't worry, my dear friend, I will never hate ya!
I can agree with the fact that post-rework Freddy (which IS the Forever Freddy we all know) wasn't fun to go against. Overall, he wasn't healthy for the game. But I think there are way worse options.
A thousand of them is still more fun than a single game against Wesker, imho.

I've played this game since 2018, and when I think about perks that have been quite universally hated, I think of old DS, old Dead Hard, original Mettle Of Man (was a ######### horrid experience btw), Made For This before the nerf. A honorable mention would be the old Object Of Obsession. On killers side, I think of Pop Goes The Weasel before all the nerfs, Eruption obviously, original Hex: Pain Resonance & Dead Mans Switch combo. Old Hex: Ruin. If I had to pick the most hated survivor perk, it's definitely Dead Hard. Most hated killer perk, it's probably the old Hex: Ruin. Great skillchecks would be count as good, and just good skillchecks would regress the generator a bit, and stop progressing it for a few seconds. Good times.

honestly this I started playing in 2019 like a month after plague came out and the game was definitely more simplistic to learn back then despite there being more super op stuff back then
Yeah, when I started in 2018 the new player experience was awesome!
Well, except for Old Legion that is.
-
I think it is mostly due to MMR, the grind and the unnecessary changes.
Your favorite power, map, perk or add-on can be taken away at any given time. And while this is true for every live service game out there, in DBD it happens way too frequently with things that could have been left alone.
-
If a survivor gets slugged for over a minute and no one even tries to help them then that is on the survivor team, not the killer.

I’m sorry but there have been plenty of games where I have taken zero hooks, and ran the killer while my SoloQ teammates did MAYBE two gens. Usually one … but I’m being generous. So he gives up chase and goes after them. Now while I do gens … by myself, while they play flashlights and flash bangs terribly… and take hooks every 20 seconds, I don’t think my hand is being held for anything. The killer couldn’t catch me and does not deserve a 4K that they didn’t earn, despite my teammates being horrible.
And sometimes it’s not even that they’re horrible. It’s that they’d rather play the flashlight game than ever do generators, so it leaves it down to one person. Regardless, in my experience, the most time that a killer slugs to go look for last survivor is because they don’t have a hook on that survivor. So no they do not “deserve” a 4k. If you couldn’t catch me during the game, why do you think you suddenly deserve it at the end?
And while I do understand the other side of when a game goes very poorly for survivors, this is where, especially in SoloQ it becomes 1v1v1v1v1 and it’s still not a “hand-hold” it’s just not punishing all for the actions of some. Again, when you have two people disconnect, or kill themselves on first hook that’s not the killer playing well that your teammates being #########. Why should I be punished for that? Hatch doesn’t guarantee me anything but at least I have a chance after getting stuck with garbage teammates.
And on the occasions where everyone is playing and doing what they’re supposed to, if the killer plays well, and we still have three or two generators to do. We’ve all taken hooks. Then, I really don’t complain if they slug to prevent hatch. Because in those instances they do in fact deserve it.
The killer couldn’t catch me and does not deserve a 4K that they didn’t earn, despite my teammates being horrible.
But the killer made the right play. You are not supposed to waste your time chasing a survivor that is difficult to catch.
Knowing when to drop chase is a skill you have to learn.

How can stealth still be important? There’s a killer aura perk for every single thing a survivor does (or doesn’t do). They’re releasing one now that shows a survivor’s aura for 10 seconds if they’re near a dropped pallet. Wallhacks are antithetical to hide and seek—at least for the hiders.
I agree that we have way too much aura reading these days, yes, but you won't go against full aura builds all the time. Many killers prefer gen defense, and against those builds it is still very much possible to hide and work around them.
Well, it is how I usually play DBD. I am not crazy for chases like some survivors are.

DBD started out as a hide and seek type game, but over the years that "lack of information" design philosophy has slowly and gradually been removed. It's far more chase-oriented now.
Comms doesn't confer nearly as much of an advantage as players are led to believe. A lot of it comes down to how coordinated the players are. A group of four new players using comms isn't going to automatically make them the SWF death squad from hell. Experience and coordination are what makes voice chat strong, rather than voice chat itself.
I don't think that is the case, to be honest. Stealth and the hide and seek playstyle are still extremely important aspects of DBD and so is the lack of information. A survivor shouldn't be aware of the killer's precise location most of the time, and if they are then there should be a risk (like OoO).
A group of four new players using comms isn't going to automatically make them the SWF death squad from hell. Experience and coordination are what makes voice chat strong, rather than voice chat itself.
I second this.
-
Yes, it is impossible.
I've always thought of SWF as an unsolvable problem. Players are doing nothing wrong, they are just playing with their friends, but DBD will always remain a hide and seek survival horror game. The game is built around a certain lack of information, which is the very reason why we have perks that give the player select amounts of information, such as Alert and Bond. Also the reason why the old Object of Obsession had a risky downside to it.
Using comms gives a huge advantage where it shouldn't, but I don't think anything can be done about it.
-
Funnily enough, it is the same map I got last time I played him.
It isn't the best map for Freddy, but there are worse options. Still can't expect an easy game though.

In surveys like these, if you select something like "I did not play Lights Out", then you won't be shown any of the questions asking you about your experience with Lights Out and it'll skip that section.
The one with the licenses looks like it might just be a random sample, though.
...I actually did not know that. Maybe I just got lucky with my surveys so far.

Yeah, I got the free text question too, but getting licenses from a list is a lot more interesting because it implies there's some licenses DBD already has its eye on. And teletubbies, apparently. (And the teletubbies has me going 🤔 because this is exactly how we ended up with a dating sim…)
The only thing I said no to was the Casting of Frank Stone, so it's pretty weird if that one locked me out of licenses. Had plenty of feedback about Castlevania and Lights Out.
Wait, you can be locked out of those questions?

I wish! While I wasn’t around for release to where she was at her most powerful, I’d be happy if we got her blending power that she had when Stranger Things was released.
At the very least, we need more nice bushes like Mr Cowboys map has and thick fog that both roles can take advantage of. As a fan of Myers, I’ll be okay if he can’t stalk through the fog due to it being too thick. I’m willing to work for my juice.
I am used to the Dream World having a lot of Fog and I miss my Blendette times, so having more Fog in the game is a huge win in my book!

Yeah, that would be a possible solution.
The best solution, in my honest opinion.
The Fog is an extremely important aspect of DBD. Even the developers sign their posts with "see you in the Fog".
So… where is the Fog?
-
Fog offerings don't need a rework, to be honest, we just need the Fog back.
-
I'm surprised the original Mettle of Man is barely mentioned. It was extremely frustrating to play against.
-
I don't think the reaction was overblown. Playing her in the PTB earlier today was absolutely miserable, she basically has nothing left.
-
I think they should stay.
The maps themselves are the problem, not the offerings. No survivor wants to play on Coldwind Deadzone, and no killer wants to see Pallet Town 2.0 (The Game).
There was one patch quite some time ago that attempted to fix the more problematic maps in the game without making them miserable for either side. Those were the original map adjustments, before the big reworks, and if we still had those specific layouts in the game no one would really have a problem with map offerings.

Reminiscing about the golden days and discussing DBD's future for the past five years has been a wonderful experience, and one I'm really grateful for.
Cheers, everyone! Here's to this amazing community!

I could say it is because Freddy Krueger is my favorite fictional character, but it goes beyond that. In fact, Freddy is the very reason I joined the Forums in the first place.
You see, ever since I first started playing DBD, all the way back in 2018, Freddy has been my main. But back when I started Freddy had a completely different power, which we usually refer to as the "Old Freddy", and I really loved it. Unfortunately many killer players didn't really understand how his power worked, and considered him to be extremely weak.
So in July of 2019 Freddy was massively reworked, and that rework essentially deleted my favorite character from the game. Thats why I decided to come here, as it is BHVR's official channel for feedback, to try and get Old Freddy back.
It is what I've been trying to do for the past five years.
