It’s supposed to be this way
i dont see why. Myers and other killers that require lines of sight suck butt on that map, how is that fair? i suddenly cant use my power, what makes me unique as a killer, because of some corn?
-
oh mine did the same just before it. my laptop's RAM literally killed itself, costing me about £100 in repair costs. the ram committed livenot, and my OS did the same trying to run without it.

Rework perks that help with scratch marks into something else. Honestly, it's time now. There's really no reason to have them anymore. None at all. Killers have perks that can literally guarantee a 4k with little to no skill. So why do they need scratch marks?
how to tell someone is a toxic survivor main running second chance perks, a flashlight, and teabags on every pallet

hey there! killer main here, albiet i havent played in a short while because my laptop in uni cant run this game (for those interested, i play myers mostly). first and foremost: get ready not to have fun in every game. but, dissasociating winning from having fun really helps. now, to your complaints which are all points that survivors make:
first, the tunneling and camping. the point of killer's side of the match is to hook everyone and, well, kill them. camping a hook, as well as 'tunneling' a survivorare tactics that a killer can use, just like how SWF teams can have one or two 'runners' as i like to call them who loop the killer and annoy them to distract him or her enough to allow the rest of the team to repair gens in peace. we are seeing changes to the anti tunneling perk, decisive strike, soon because of it being abused by survivors jumping into lockers or tapping a gen when in a chase. simmilarly, we see killer perks, or raw stats, changed in order to reflect if a certain killer is doing well (see freddy). each killer player, as well as survivors, have their own set of perks that fit their playstyle. if someone is camping or facecamping (there is a difference), then the other survivors should instead go do generators. as someone here preivously had mentioned, if this continues, then said killer will lose 3 survivors, maybe 2, and either not pip or de-pip. for the points of survivor things to do, there are plenty of perks to help with chases; same for generators; and spotting the killer too, but with the added bonus of the terror radius (this isnt really in effect with stealth killers, but thats only a handful). survivors dying based on proximity to a hook would lead to survivors chasing a killer nearby, gaining the benefit of unhook windows and more time to do so. also, nurse cannot teleport across the map in an instant, she has two blinks and needs to recover after the second. but, i will say, nurse is one that is hard to go against.
the ban after disconnecting is annoying, but needed. if there was no penalty, there would be survivors disconnecting the moment they get caught, hooked, or even against certain killers or on certain maps. if it was a daily basis, then we would see this still happen, but people would just wait till the next day and do it again. the disconnect is there for a reason, and unfortunately, the only thing you can do is, well, deal with it (ive had my fair share of disconnects due to steam or DBD itself).
finally, the last thing i would recommend if your not having fun with DBD is simply not play, which i would assume you have done considering you said you uninstalled (unless that is for clout). i did the same, i took the game too seriously, uninstalled, and replayed it later and found it far more enjoyable when ignoring ranks and how well i did, instead just having fun.
-
jeff was the first survivor i played. i was really altruistic, running what is pretty much a mom build to heal and help out others. then it switched to a 'good luck finding me' build, because i was often the last one alive. after getting fed up with saving stupid survivors, i switched to killer and stayed that wat unless a ritual or smth called for it.
-
hillbilly and doctor i really love, they both just fit the killers so well
-
hi all,
i completely agree with the statement from OP. this game is so hard to run because of customisation options, and i can speak from experience because this game literally broke my computer.
because i cannot change settings past 'high, medium, low etc.' the game as stessing out my computer that much it crashed the whole system, fried my RAM stick which then led to the corruption of my OS system. after 3 days and almost £100 later, it was fixed. its a shame that i cannot run this game while at uni (using a laptop) because both of my friends have been playing it on console. if this game had actual graphical options instead of a rushed excuse for optimisation, maybe this would not have happened.
-
i do it so i dont have the scream in my ears. i'd like to have working ears later in life ty
-
whatever we can do to encourage positive behaviour from both sides is warmly welcomed by myself. we can only hope that this gains more traction and a lot more attention.
-
i havent played in a while, but i loved playing myers. i got to about rank 8 with a mix of myers, doctor, and anyone else i felt like playing. while i feel that you should just play whoever you want and not worry too much about how you do (play for fun, not to win) it is sad news to hear that he is underperforming. in my opinion, his kit is fine where it is: build up the evil within to almost 3, then pop it when the moment is right. maybe tweak some of his numbers, or make his addons more practical, but i'd personally wouldnt want his power touched.
-
for killer, i try not to 'main' anyone because i feel that if i get too comfortable playing only one killer, i wont do as well when i play a different one. that being said, the closest thing i have to a killer 'main' is Myers. i love the halloween series, and Myers in the games is exactly how i like to play dbd- pick and choose my right moment, take my time stalking, then when its right, get to T3 and lay waste. either Myers or Doctor, thanks to his ability in my early hours o dbd to find people and not make loops such a hassle.
survivor? jeff johansen. purely because i am envious of his hair + beard. i would kill to get it that length but my hair gets nowhere near that length.
-
'playing killer seems to be a chore and the fun is gone'
welcome to playing killer on DBD. either you play meta and get called toxic, or you play who you want and depip every game.
if you want to continue playing the side that is often times screwed over by survivor main devs, removing the link between winning and having fun helps. (AKA you dont need to win to have fun)
or just run the meta perks and leave no man standing. revel in the tears and flames of survivors.
-
this should be something the devs look at and try to change, and hell should be a pinned comment on the forum, but instead we have 'share your wholesome dbd moments!' as a pin, right above waves and waves of stuff that should be looked at more than the one time the killer gave you a hatch.
-
when i first started playing this game as killer, trying to find who i wanted to play, same thing happened. and as you put, the lower ranks were super friendly or just moved on while the higher up ranks all were a-holes. eventually settling on Myers as my main killer, it got worse because, well, Michael Myers. the main things i found helpful are:
one - just put ggwp in chat and leave. dont even look at chat, just ggwp then next match. this saves a lot of frustration and wastes the flamers time too bc they are talking to thin air.
two - do NOT feed into them. just like bullies on a playground, they want a reaction. they want you to say something back, so they can laugh at it. if you retaliate then they have ammo. reminds me of a clip from JFJ, where he was killer against 4 really toxic survivors. they were being typical red rank survivors all game and flamed him in postgame chat, and JFJ retaliates and leaves. immediately after he's like 'jeez, i shouldnt have said anything ... you know why? because even though they were a-holes all game and flamed, its gonna be 4 reports against my 1.'
tl;dr dont give the gun thats pointed at you ammo.
three - all esle fails, turn off chat completely. unsure how to do so on ps4 (im on pc) but just turn it off. dont let them get to you, its what they want.
final piece of advice? dont let the rotten apples spoil the whole orchard. have fun with the game, and just report the bad ones and upvote the good.
-
it all depends on who you are, what you burn, and where you play as each person will have different thoughts on what is/isnt unbalanced. (disclaimer: this is what ive personally seen while on forums and personal experience. im not a god at the game, so some points may be just me or something that gets better over time.)
starting with who, we see a divide between killers and survivors. in a general blanket of said survivors, high ranked killers such as freddy, nurse, spirit, hag are commonplace among killers that need nerfs according to survivorfolk, along with any number of others depending on the person. also, perks like NOED (no one escapes death) is a touchy subject to some, along with perks that stop or at least hinder their preferred playstyle, or stop the higher ranked builds being so powerful. on the killers side, we see more a case of perks seen as unbalanced less than the actual survivors, but a blendette (a claudette wearing dark clothing to 'blend' with the dismal environment) is an issue seen among killers. i am in this camp of players, as a killer main. general consensus is that some perk combonations, like Decisive Strike (DS) unbreakable, and borrowed time are seen as a lose lose situation for the killer. pick them up? get stunned. leave them on the floot? they get back up. others, like dead hard, sprint burst etc. are seen a problems but can be dealt with by offerings like the solvent jug, an offering for the clown to directly stop these perks, but that is too specific. again, it comes down to the person in terms of what they hate. personally, for me its the perk combos and cockiness / toxicity of survivors that is the most off putting of this game.
now onto what. the what section for survivors is simple: what to killers hate survivors bringing into a match in terms of burns / items. this is usually a toolbox with brand new part for example, or a flashlight used to click spam, or the most controversial is a key, because from the killers perspective it means that if someone brings a key and finds the hatch, off they go along with anyone else with them. in terms of burning offerings, the only ones that ive seen killers hate are when people burn certain map tokens (more on this later). for what survivors hate, again it varies. the main one is Mori, which the ebony one allows killers to completely kill a survivor after being on a hook once. i personally never used one, but i can see why they get annoyed at this. other than that, its varied: usually addons that hinder the perks they bring, or a map offering that suits the killer (say, a killer who wants a small map, burning a map token for a small map).
finally, we have the where. maps are mainly complained about by both sides, either for being far too big for some killers, or far too small, or being built for a handful of killers. take the deathsliger map, and the saloon. the generator on the top of the saloon, where the deathslinger can get a clear shot, nurse can blink up, clown can throw a bottle, huntress can throw an axe, etc.other killers instead need to do the long walk up the saloon to get to the generator, only being able to shave off a couple of seconds by the breakable door. for survivors, smaller maps have seen to be more of a complaint because its, well, smaller, meaning the killer can spend less time going between generators. however, there is the farm maps (and to an extent, the yamaoka estate): killers hate people who burn these maps because of the low visibility (damn you corn!), the sizes of the map, any annoying loops etc. not to say that killers cant play these maps, its just hard as ever to follow someone through the corn without looking directly at the ground for the scratchmarks.

Yes, yes, I know, you are already yelling at me for daring to say something so offensive, but bear with me for 5 seconds. I will make this extremely clear and short.
The following scenarios can happen:
1.You were planning to camp: BT did it's job, nothing more to say.
2.You don't camp and leave the hook: the hooked survivor will get unhooked and BT won't come into play. Now you have 1 healthy survivor(the unhooker) and 1 injured survivor(the unhooker) off gens, with one that needs to heal. Since you left the hook, you need to search for a survivor to chase.
3.You don't plan to camp, but a survivor rushes the hook with BT before you can leave: you get a hit on the unhooker, the unhooked survivor tanks a hit with BT. Now you have 1 injured survivor(the unhooker), 1 survivor that needs to mend and heal(the unhooked survivor) and you also have your next target to chase(any of the 2 survivor), no need to waste time searching for a new target.
Therefore, the math clearly says that survivors rushing the hook with BT when you had no plans to camp is actually in your favor. If they rushed the hook but you still planned to camp, see #1. There can be slight differences in #3, like the unhooked survivor not being able to tank the hit and you downing the unhooker, which is even more in your favor.
Remind me again, why are you complaining about BT if you are not a camper?
i gotta say i disagree with this, let me give you an example of my own (which has happened to me as a former surv now killer main. also, this is taking point number 3 into effect, but instead of being at any time during the game instead its endgame, when BT turns from an anti facecamp perk to a 'kick in the gahoolies' perk):
your a killer, against either seal team 6 style SWF because of the matchmaking right now, or you got a bad map, or your trying to get more points on a killer to get better perks, or any combination of those 3. main thing here is that the match has been awful. no kills, 5 gens done, gates are about to open. you know that the match is gonna give no points, you manage to get someone down and hook them. if you leave the hook, they will be rescued and the match was a waste of time. you sit on the hook, at least you will get some points for entity summoned / late sacrifice, maybe if the other team sticks around some hits. someone barrels towards the hook, you hit them, they unhook in front of you. 'ok, i'll hit the one who is injured off hook, punish an unsafe hook.' nah, one has BT, you are in the cooldown animation of your hit watching them teabag in front of you and run off. welcome to 0k, no point land, home to wasted time both in match and queues.
the example was made to show how annoying of a perk this can be for a killer who hasnt had a good game. to me personally, its a 'kick them while they are down' perk. if you dont use it like that, cool this isnt a post against all people who use BT, but against those who use it to just be an [BAD WORD]. im also not asking for survivors to 'give up' and let killers have kills for free, but dont kick a killer in the nuts after having a bad game.

The problem there is that when you dont have your MMR settled, you fight good and bad killers/survivors to be able to adjust it and settle it down
But ill defenetly go for the fact that youre a good potatoe :p
im gonna wait a couple weeks, let the dust settle, then pick up dbd again. unsure if my laptop can run dbd while at uni so i might not be playing till winter 😂

No, Almo said that the MMR on PC started collecting data with the update that locks the killers when you search for a game, and that you have to play at least 10 games since that update to set your MMR (10 games/killer of course...solike 200 games for all killers + 10 for survivor at least)
It just came in too quickly i think, they should have w3anted more and it would probably be better :(
well ive played plenty of games w doctor (i love him purely bc i find him cool, same as mikey) and im against rank 1's and 20's so either im somehow both awesome and terrible at the game, or rank 20s are all smurfs, all rank 1s are potatoes, or the MMR update should have been in the oven for way longer to prevent this half-baked mess as it is.

I dont understand the point of this new system. It has false information. I'm still getting mostly 1 Killers.
Why not just keep it like it used to be. Maybe add a button that lets you 'just play with anyone' that you can toggle on or off. Instead of forcing people to just play with anyone...😩
the problem with the previous one was what is wrong with this one. mid rank killers being put against rank rank survivors, which is wholly unfair on the killer. except this time, devs claim that rank and hours mean nothing anymore, when its pretty painstakingly obvious they do; we were told that matches from months ago up to now were used to make the MMR system, which i personally do not know if that was true or not because look at the mess we are in.
if we had a 'play with anyone' (essentially enabling rainbow matches AKA all ranks together), that means it being turned off would be 'play with people close to my rank' (using rank here instead of MMR because rank is easier to think of, and we dont know how MMR is operated) instead of anyone. so it would never be turned on, and rainbow matches (AKA any SWF that has someone on a lower 'rank bracket' as you) would have an extremely long wait time (which killers already have). personally, i would want to play against rank 10 survivors when im rank 10, instead of red ranks, purple ranks, and maybe a yellow or green. long story short, 'keep[ing] it like it used to be' is no different to now, except devs have put on their hoover costumes and tell you to just carry on and smile through this depressing time.
-
i recently had a david king drop a pallet on me just as the chase ended with someone else, the change from music to quiet to BAM gave me a classic jumpscare
-
clicking flashlights is something you learn to tune out a lot. it happens so much, and by people who want your attention to loop you. you can run perks like franklin's demise to get rid of the flashlights and other stuff, but just tune it out. they WANT your attention, they want to make you chase them. instead, check generators, find other people, dont get lured into the trap they want you to.
this leads to another pointer: staying calm. if someone dead hards away, instead of thinking '[BADWORD] dead hard, of course', think 'cool, i know they have dead hard'; if they teabag, ignore it. ive had a lot of survs drop a pallet, teabag, then run. oftentimes i just get rid of the pallet and move on to checking gens because they want you to chase them to a better loop and waste your time.
assume that they are running sweaty builds ALL THE TIME. im talking dead hard, DS, borrowed time, etc. always assume its a 4man SWF with sweaty builds and play according to it. during the game, if someone has say calm spirit make a mental note that they have CS.
in general? expect survivors to be horrible the higher the rank they are. i have met a few nice red ranks before, but its a drop in the ocean. they will wait for you at the gate to waste time, they will click flashlights, teabag, sit on hatch till you come close, everything.
for killer perks discordinance is a godsend of a perk. 2 survivors working on a gen while a surv is trying to get you to loop? you know where to go to distrupt half the team. think of it like this: "theres one trying to loop me, and 2 on a gen, one MIA. lets deal with the two, and get hooks going".
most important advice? disregard being 'toxic'. if they run sweat perks, teabag, click flashlights etc. you have every right to run 'toxic builds', to tunnel, and if the game has went poorly (5 gens done, gates open, 1 on hook) feel free to camp the hook for some points. entitled survs think that they can be scummy and get away with it. prove them wrong my friend, and drink their tears from the tallest chalice.

your right, im not a doc main. and i am level 53 because i played some survivor to understand the game, then played various other killers for teachable perks. dont see what my profile level has to do with this but whatever. half of that i am asking for: rank 10 survivors. yknow, people my level? instead of games full of rank 1's who can just run circles around me, because im not the best killer out there. but its not just me having this problem, its way more. this update was supposed to fix this but it hasnt.

For what reason would that be hidden?
DISCLAIMER: the numbers i make up here are purely for the hypothetical below.
my guess is that if people knew how it was calculated, unless all aspects that make your MMR are even, people will game the system. if its out of 10 for survivors as an example:
2 for Objectives; 2 for Survival; 2 for Altruism; 2 for Boldness and 2 more depending on you win or lose.
so, if you do well in all categories but still get got, your MMR will go up because you did everything right, getting 8/10. however, if instead for whatever reason it looked like this:
3 for objectives; 3 for survival; 1 for altruism; 2 for boldness and 1 for win/lose
people will start to game the system to rank up quick. people will do nothing but objectives and become selfish, not bothering with altruism because it gets the least of them all. why go for the 1 and save someone when you can go for the generator and get 3? we would see survivors (and killers) start to all play a certain way in order to get more MMR faster, which isnt exactly healthy for the game. unless the differences are negligible for all of them, they wont reveal how MMR is calculated, or MMR at all for that matter.
TL;DR if we know how MMR works, if its not all flat and extremely simmilar values across the system, people will game said system for fast climbing.

Like it mentions in some of the other links, it takes time for it right now. It only has just been activated. Tweaks and adjustments can be made to the matchmaking along the way,
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1513979#Comment_1513979
Ranks don't matter anymore - you don't get matched up based on whether someone in green rank or red rank. The skill rating matches you up based on performance and as it just has been quite recently implemented, the system might take some time to adjust your current skill rating. Which means the best way to get better matches it play continously.
but because myself and multiple people are being matched against people with hundred, hell even thousands of more hours against them, who we can at least assume would be better players (there are more factors behind what makes a good player, yes, but time spent in the game is a biggie), would that mean our MMR number would plummet because of being pitted against players who can literally and figeratively run circles around killers, or killers who can cream survivors?

well they fixed aura that something.
honestly it took me like 3 games to get used to the new auras. its nice they reverted it, especially for people with not the best sight or a form of colour blindess, but if this is the direction they have envisioned for auras we better get ready for this to happen again. i see it like this: DBD is a person with a stab wound (MMR) and a splinter (auras). the paramedic devs pulled out the splinter but are telling the person to walk off the stab wound, because 'it will get better later'.

It has been mentioned before that MMR might take some time until it "properly" works. It only was just enabled on a wider scale, so it will take some time for it to adjust. PLease check these threads for more information: Link 1, Link 2 and Link 3
so what do we do in the meantime? put up with it for an undefined amount of time? just dont play for a couple weeks? the latter seems the safest, because if you just 'put up with it' then your MMR is gonna be lower than what it should be due to the amount of rank 1 survs against yellow rank killers and vice versa. (for frame of reference, im a rank 10 killer playing doctor against usually rank 1 Sweat With Friends)

update from a mod on the discussion from Gay Myers (Luzi):
"It has been mentioned before that MMR might take some time until it "properly" works. It only was just enabled on a wider scale, so it will take some time for it to adjust. PLease check these threads for more information: Link 1, Link 2 and Link 3"
so this is saying to me 'wait for it to work, and put up with it'. (also the links dont work on the original.)

they need to get on the ball then.
give them like a year and we will see a minor bugfix that will break the game further. doesn't surprise me that devs are silent right now with this issue, but will launch onto someone immediately if they make a post saying how bad the devs are.

It happened to me too on the survivor side. I stay about rank 10 as a survivor. My first 10 matches in the MMR system were all against rank 15 to 20 killers. I did well in those matches. Ever since then every match has been against killers between ranks 1 and 5.
I know it's not supposed to be about the rank, but I got put up against people fairly new to the game my first 10 matches. Doing well against them apparently meant I'm a top tier survivor and now that's how the MMR places me every single match.
its almost like the system puts you against super low rank survivors to inflate your MMR so it can justify its ######### matchmaking

but the bloodlust buildup is lost when line of sight is broken (thats what the wiki says). take the infamous loopshack (2 doors, one with a pallet on it, and a window). as soon as they turn the corner or jump through the window thats line of sight lost, so wouldnt that mean bloodlust is reset to 0, meaning whats the point in even having it?

from a killer perspective, but then how will you see the salt you caused to survivors? (dont go actively looking to make people salty, but when you do hoo boy is it satisfying)
on a serious note, this is a good way to stay calm (even though we shouldnt close our eyes to the toxicity in dbd and do something about it despite the devs acting like it doesnt happen unless its an actual threat plus the fact of one killer report vs 4 survivor reports being jank in terms of amount) or what i do:
winning = fun? no, bad. will make you bald from stress.
winning =/= fun? yes, good. dont relate winning to having fun in this game and your experience is 100X better. getting better is cool, but dont expect fun from only winning.
