Strange that their "fun" ever so often needs the full 2 minutes of egc even with the killer being on the other side of the map.

    fine with me

This is exactly how I do it. Most the time they are happy they survived. You just have to keep it in perspective they have a low percentage that they make it out of a trial. The few times they do let them enjoy it. If I evaluate my Killer games I win a good deal of them 3-4K. On the occasions of losses it is usually only 2 make it out. Let them enjoy their victory with their limited options of expression.

same here buddy who do you main?

Your playing survivor and you get the gens done exit gates are powered now your basically just going to sit at the exit gate for two minutes and teabag? Why first off you were hit and hooked so you can't really say hey I made it out without a scratch so screw you. Two its childish to me it is unless your staying there because a teammate is injured and you want some extra points go for it most times once I see okay their powered and no one is in chase with me I won't go near the gates I'll look in certain areas away from it kick a few pallets if any where left since I'm not giving extra points for 'boldness' because they want to stay just inches away from the exit. If it's to get under my skin doesn't really work "then why are making a post about it" because I can and I want to know why people do this unless the killer basically was just a jerk you know slugging and tunneling then they won't get a teabag from me because they played fair and worked hard so I don't waste their time I leave so I can get into the next match and so can they. So why do people still teabag at the gate I really don't see the point of it better yet I see as a your going to be screwed because there was a time killed a Jane as Deathslinger with NOED because she got way to greedy.

in my eyes as a killer main i want people to have fun and if it helps them have fun i just turn up my sensitivity(xbox type shniz) and spin and nod as fast as i can while they have their fun and hey bonus points when they forget about egc

About less than a week ago (♪week ago♪), I was playing as Meg on a Badham map. In the second floor of its main house, there's an empty closet opposite the Gen. While hiding, Chucky sniffed me out trying to ninja the generator and slugged me there. Understandable— I play just as much Killer and get just as upset at sneaky survivor rats poking my gens before sprint bursting away.

What I DON'T understand is why he came back into the closet and, instead of picking up and hooking Meg, proceeded to roleplay "taking advantage of her." I dunno what words BHVR's decided to filter, but just think of the grossest thing and go with that. Backpedaling and holding forward repeatedly. Needless to say, I didn't do much afterwards besides quit DbD for the day.

Fast forward to today. I'm playing Yoichi on Midwich against another Chuck. After a grueling 11 minute game, it's finally down to a Quentin and I to try and wrap up 2 gens. I did my damnedest up until Chuck slugged Quentin CLEAR across the map and left him to look for me, just so I couldn't Hatch out of the match.

I mention Yoichi because I'm using Empathic Connection, so Quentin can see me across the map since he's injured. I also recognize what Chucky is trying to do here, fight the urge to quit and do my best to have fun with it. I hide in basement, emote to Quentin to crawl to me while Chuck wastes time searching and I pick him back up so we can have another go at it.

No luck. Chuck finds Quentin again while I'm on a gen, slugs him while I'm clear across the map a second time and proceeds to deny Quentin his right to leave the game with his well-earned BP. At this point I simply throw up my hands, sprint to the center of Midwich's courtyard and force notifications until he finds me.

His response after I call him out on "forcing a 4k" instead of "earning" it post-game? Something to the effect of "I got a 4k tho." At the same time, I was being lambasted by a Cheryl for "jerking around" instead of "playing the game."

I took a couple of breaks from the game after Nemesis and RPD were released. Best thing that ever happened in a multiplayer game I enjoy. Now? I'm wondering if licensed characters/killers are even worth the baggage they bring.

Bonus round: Which Killers attracted the most toxic individuals before Chuck? In hindsight, I find this psychological phenomena fascinating. It makes me wonder what types of people watched Child's Play growing up.

EDIT: I apologize if this should've been labeled discussion instead of question. These events incited my first time using the forums.

thats what ive seen chucky as since day one

"First thing is Artist is A tier I'm not sure where you got the idea she isn't. But Dredge yeah a lot of players get overwhelmed by nightfall so they can do well even if they're not strong or consistent."

Yes, my mistake :( Actually I meant non-S tier killers who are better than average.

"I get very confused when "casual" players get upset they don't win very often when by their own admission they don't want to try much. You loaded up decided you wanted to play chill and lost to people that wanted to win more than you. I see no issue here."

I think you didn't fully understand my point. I'm neither upset nor do I expect easy 4Ks. I quote myself:

Everyone should play the way they like. But in the future I would like to see competitive gamers and casual/chilled players separated.

Don't get me wrong, I don't expect 4K without putting in the effort and actually I don't care about the outcome of the match as long as I had fun and got at least a few hooks.

IMO It's not good that low-tier killers rely on strategies like camping, tunneling and slugging to stand a chance against good survivors. This spoils the fun for the survivors and also for some killers like @09SHARKBOSS or me. That's why I try to continue to play "fairly". For me the best solution is to adjust the MMR.

    i have been summoned

i do actually have fun playing against toxic players via butchering them (its called becoming a comp player mid game)

the chill ones and the ones that give up i let go

  • i get it in every lvl so i think its just random and i got lucky/unlucky (depending on who you are)

I was on a break when this DLC came out so still struggling to learn how to counter them.

Other than not dropping pallets much like Huntress/Nemi unless dropping for stun/early and running them to the turrets to put them on cooldown, I feel like the tail is very difficult to avoid.

Any tips would be appreciated as I get wrecked every time I verse them

put a turret after a vault and lead the killer there the killer will lose their power while vaulting and be slowed needing to hit the turret while you run for distance guarantying at least a 20 second chase

if you ever want me to find a counter for a killer just put @09SHARKBOSS and ask away

Did you know there's an anual event on Iceland where they throw puffins off a cliff?

This is a good thing, because they're pufflings that have just fledged (they do so at night) and have gotten lost because of human civilisation's light pollution. The Icelandic people spend the night chasing after the pufflings, catching them to keep them from harming themselves.

They're tossed off the cliff at the crack of dawn, where they can safely start their journey exploring the oceans.

This has been something on my mind for quite awhile, and since I haven't really seen any posts that share my sentiment, I decided to make one myself. I feel like, as years have gone by and new perks and mechanics have come out, stealth has become worse and worse to the point of almost uselessness. As somebody who prefers stealth gameplay (note, that doesn't mean I hide all game, I just prefer evading the killer) it makes playing survivor that much more aggravating.

With the glut of information provided to killers, via scratch marks, loud noise notifications, crows (sometimes) and auras, often times I find myself unable to get out of a chase no matter what I do, and sometimes I can't avoid one to begin with. It kinda blows having my preferred playstyle be nearly impossible to achieve without dedicating multiple perks to it.

I think my main reason for writing this post is wanting to hear what everybody else thinks on the topic. Do you think stealth is too weak, and/or there's too much info to work with?

depends on how you play with it bc i know distortion works great as a solo stealth perk but works better with things like calm spirit

but crouching in a corner isnt the way to play stealth (i know you dont do that bc you said u dont)

  • @Bartlaus said:

Very briefly about me: I've been playing DBD since 2017, both Killer and Survivor (but more recently Survivor). I haven't played DBD for half a year, but I continued to follow the discussions in the forum. Therefore I would like to give my two cents on the current balancing and would like to hear your opinions on it...

In the meantime there have been a number of very good changes (e.g. anti-3-gen mechanics, basekit Shadowborn) which I welcome, but the real core problem still remains - map balancing and MMR. When I play killers, I usually play killers that you would consider low tier and I always try to play chilled. But despite my years of experience with M1 killers, I still have the problem that the gens fly too quickly. Why is it? The survivors I get, whether mediocre or very good, literally stick to the gens. I'm often happy if I barely get 2 kills (when I'm playing soft). I rarely play killers like Nurse and Blight because I find them too strong in places. The only non-A tier killers that I get 4 kills with very often are Dredge and Artist. Simple M1 killers like Doctor or Trapper, for example, usually fail because of the map design. But it's actually a shame because I don't like sweating every single game. I'd rather lose than tunnel or camp people. But if I lose 10 rounds in a row, I start to play sweatier at some point. And when that point is reached, I take the next killer break again. That's how I've always handled it.

When I play Survivor, I feel like I'm only matched with people who have only been playing DBD for 10 hours. Gens are not done, the chases rarely last longer than 20 seconds. I don't do that to myself anymore.

I still miss the old rank based matchmaking. Compared to today's hockey system, it was perfect for me. I'm just saying Purple Ranks. This was the place where I felt comfortable and had dozens of relaxed rounds of fun among other players.

After I started with DBD again and wanted to test the doctor's little buffs, I was immediately matched with a top tournament SWF from my country who had already won countless tournaments and consists of 24/7 professional streamers. But I don't think I should be matched against people like that. I don't want to play in comp mode. And unfortunately, such teams are no exception for me. But for me DBD is not a comp game, even if many people want it to be.

But please don't get me wrong, this is not intended to be a complaint thread. I just want to share my thoughts on the current situation and would appreciate your views. There have definitely been a lot of good changes recently that I'm really happy about. And good changes continue to come, even if unfortunately it sometimes takes a long time.

Thanks for reading and feel free to share your opinions.

P.s.: I apologize for any grammatical errors. I am not a native speaker.

me and you are very alike in the fact we would rather lose than camp/tunnel

but we play differently i play competitive until ppl start dying then i start memeing

I've been thinking lately about how balance wise the game is in a pretty good place IMO but there's perhaps more complaints than ever and those complaints are perhaps more diverse than ever. I remember when you pretty much knew the list of things people didn't like by heart

    -Face camping

    -NOED

    -DH

    -DS/Unbreakable

    -Hatch stand offs

Were the majority of the complaints and blatant Us vs. Them was everywhere. Now don't get me wrong it's still around but more now I see survivors blaming other survivors and killers complaining about the most obscure things. Part of me thinks well people will always complain and if the complaints are getting weirder that probably means the game is more balanced.

But I thought about it more and I thought about the nature of the different complaints and it's more obvious than over even in the way different content creators talk about things differently than we're very much split into two camps and it's not about balance and it's not about survivors vs. killer.

It's very clear there's a casual vs. competitive schism going on rn in DBD where I would say it's probably the majority just wanna not take the game seriously, run whatever they want and still have a chance to win without thinking all that hard about how everything works. I'm not calling these people stupid mind you they just aren't interested in knowing every number for every killer power and knowing every perk interaction and just wanna have fun goofing off.

Then you have the smaller but still very significant competitive player base, they know how every killer works, all the different ways loops can spawn on a map and how to run them and perfectly mastered their main killers. For them they wanna push their skills as far as they can go against other players who wanna do the same and only enjoy highly competitive matches with optimized play.

First I want to say both of these are valid ways to enjoy DBD but second it's created a real problem in that these players are all in the same pool. You may have one game where two survivors are mad at the killer for being sweaty and the other two are mad at the two teammates running meme builds and playing inefficient. And that makes it difficult the discuss any issues with DBD as any particular issue is being viewed from two completely different lenses.

I really do think it's time that as it seems BHVR is finally ready to create new game modes we get a separate competitive mode separate from what we have now that's balanced differently from the main mode with certain perks being unavailable and stricter MMR matching even if it means longer queue times and maybe slight numbers tweaks specifically for that mode. I know it seems like a lot of work for minor differences but I don't see a way to make both camps happy with the same main game mode.

meanwhile me and @TheSingularity reading the complaints

    Hello hi, Fridge here

If you've been around the forums for a while, you'll undoubtedly have seen me go on about birds.

I can unabashedly hijack threads to talk about crows, pigeons, parrots, puffins, any bird goes (even some fictional ones!)

So, in an almost certainly futile attempt to stop myself from doing that (the hijacking thing), I'll be making this thread instead.

Starting with our Lord and Saviour, Rainbow Birb, aka., the Feathers of Pride Bird!

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/2JQ5KUR9HHE4/image.png

Obtainable in DbD for free right now by using the code "CAWCAW" in the in-game store!

A bit of a personal story here. It turned out a bit longer than expected whoops.

This lovely fellow released on June 8th, 2022, near the end of the academic year. At this time, I was still in university, English Language & Culture. 2022 had been kind of a shite year for me up until then, in hindsight. I had something of a mental breakdown in January, induced by my complete inability to plan out things (I have been diagnosed with ASD in December of 2020) and getting overwhelmed with deadlines. I tried getting back into therapy to see if I could learn some kind of "lifehack" or whatever. They did offer some things I don't remember, but the main takeaway from them was that I needed to inquire at uni itself. There's a student psychologist, but contacting them became part of the "I'll get to it eventually". I never did end up contacting them.

Now, very early on in the academic year of 2021/2022, we had a course that was all about writing academic English. It covered all kinds of writing, including translating, from Dutch to English. It was a single assignment, but unlike every other assignment, I went through this one at rocket speed. Shocked at my own sudden capability at Doing a Thing, I quickly realised that I really enjoyed translating. In what I can only describe as a paradigm shift, my "intrinsic motivator", as my therapist called it, was discovered. I wanted to become a translator. That was my end goal. That's why I did this study. It would be nothing short of a battle, but there was a goal in sight.

It... didn't work out that way.

After the advise of a student councillor, I tried to do less courses in the next semester to "ease the load". A whopping 5 courses, out of the standard 8, or even 9 I should've done to keep up, but that didn't fare much better. I got sick with COVID on my birthday of all days. I could barely work up the motivation to attend hallway nights anymore. That, of course, became something of a cycle. I wound up flunking or even skipping those courses as well thanks to a complete and utter lack of motivation (but not without a crippling feeling of guilt :) )

Come April/May, I shifted into an even worse version of the "do what you can" mode to try to salvage anything. I wound up salvaging 1 course, and another one that had a weird deadline that allowed me to extend it into the summer break.

I didn't tell a soul how bad things were going. Not my friends, my hallmates, my mother. It was always "could be better", and for most, that sufficed. I shudder to think how many sleepless nights my mother had because of me, though. I never explicitly told her what was happening, always "I can manage". And, somehow, I believed that myself.

What I really needed was a goddamn break. No deadlines, no assignments. Nothing.

And then Rainbow Bird released. To me, out of nowhere.

There was something about that day. I don't know if it was the sun shining or whatever, but for the first time in over half a year, I was really happy about something. Specifically, something that made me happy. Here, on the forums, I got really excited about a silly colourful bird. Now, birds have been my weakness for some time, but for the first time in my life, I felt completely unashamed about it, because I was just that excited. For the first time in forever, I wasn't holding myself back because of some arbitrary self-imposed rule or because I trying to adhere to a persona. And people got excited with me, and started posting more birds. Because of me. That thread was a dumpster fire, but I couldn't care less. I got to be really passionate about birds, and people humoured and appreciated that. I specifically got tagged in the very important Cute Animal Thread a bit later, with a bird pic, because I was being myself. I don't think tippy has even the slightest inkling how important it was to me that he said "I remember someone saying they like birds", and I could go "me!" and not be ashamed of it, because yes, I do like birds!

That whole event kickstarted something within me. I started following bird accounts on other platforms, and started manureposting using our friend Rainbow Birb, because I wanted to do that, and it made me happy, made me smile, all that cringe stuff. I started to do things for me.

Going back to my academic... "career", summer break came. And there still was that one assignment. Deadline: the very last day of August. Assignment: a 2.5k word essay on "sustainability", using two very old American works of literature.

That deadline was so, so bad for me. For the entirety of the summer break, that deadline was on my mind. What should've been the time that I had absolutely nothing to worry about, instead became a very long period where that ######### assignment was on my mind every waking hour. For starters, it was boring as all get out. The works didn't interest me in the slightest, didn't even relate to the study (I did English, not American), and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the hell I was supposed to do.

But I had 2 months. Two whole months. It would be so, so laughably pathetic of me if I couldn't get that assignment done, when I had 2 months to do it, and literally nothing but the assignment to do. I did get it done, but my god those last two weeks weren't pretty. There's a different, smaller story there, but that's for another time.

I went into the new academic year already feeling like shite because of that 1 assignment. "Hope you're all refreshed and ready to go!" Hahah, I certainly wasn't.

I once again tried the "reduced load" approach. Once again, it culminated into 2 essay deadlines and 2 exams, the former being precisely what I wanted to avoid.

The first essay was already a slog, but surprisingly manageable, because I got to do it about a topic of my choosing (FoMO, specifically prompted by DbD's limited-time winter skin debacle). I didn't even bother with the other essay for the "new" course, because I really wanted to pass the courses I was retaking. There'd be a resit anyway. As for the exams, I passed one.

And then, one fateful morning in February, I found myself asking a simple question.

    "Is this worth it?"

and the answer was a resounding no.

Yes, I still wanted to become a translator, but no, this is not worth it.

In arguably the biggest decision of my life so far, I chose for myself.

Because that's what I have been doing since June of 2022. I ignored the councillor's advice, and went with what I thought was manageable. I did that assignment in the summer break, because I would not have been able to do it at all had I not gone out of my way to request that third opportunity. And I passed the course because of that.

I started choosing for myself more and more, culminating in me putting and end to the cycle that made me so miserable.

    And what started that trend?

The release of the Feathers of Pride charm. That moment where I was able to be myself, which allowed me to realise that I, in fact, do not have to maintain a persona to be happy.

Why am I trying to achieve academic prowess? Who am I trying to please? Myself? Why's that abstract me so hellbent on doing the very things that are making me miserable? I will have to do some sort of higher education if I want to become a translator, but I can make my life so much easier by switching to a dedicated translating course, instead of a uni study where translating is a very small part of it.

By now, I'm half a year into my new translating study, I have yet to fail an exam, all my assignments were on time and all but 1 were graded superbly. I'm doing fantastic and feel great. I've still got quite a few bad habits to kick, but we'll get there.

    So, uh... Yeah.

That's why I'm so very fond of Rainbow Bird.

More (real) bird talks coming soon!

i am glad i asked for this

This isn’t an accusation about whether or not killers are OP or not snd I’m not claiming any of them are. It’s simply about their power.

Literally the last 4 original killers that BHVR has released are ALL adept at 3 genning.

The Knight- Uses his guards to 3 gen.

    Dull Merchant- Self-Explanatory

The Singularity- Uses his pods to watch gens and tag survivors on gens/teleport to them.

The Unknown- Places his hallucinations at gens to constantly teleport back and forth to hold a 3 gen.

Im curious why they haven’t come up with different ideas for killers and their power/style?

Again I’m not arguing that these killers are OP, weak nor am I arguing that there is no way to counter them. I’m simply commenting on the same play style being the META for these killers based on how they were designed.

    chucky

not a fan of him but still he has a chase built power not a three genning one

That sounds like a good idea. Next time I know an Unknown is using Insidious, I'll try that.

his hallucinations i believe are slumped over most of the time
