Please don't kill Borrowed Time

According to new patch, Borrowed time will not effect unhook protections anymore and instead will auto-mend you if you have deep wound after being hit while having endurance.

So, it'll only work if you're hit immediately after being unhooked or if you used dead hard. So what is the value here? Seems extremely niche and underpowered.

I love current BT as it's probably the only way to guarantee safe rescues out of basement and it's also a minor anti-tunneling perk.

I guarantee you nobody will use this already unpopular perk if this update goes live. New effect is completely useless. Please just don't rework it/or just add new effect without removing the previous one.

Comments

  • Also this new design might encourage people start trying to take hits right after being unhooked which is problematic.

  • Yeah if body blocking was the issue that got the 5s shaved off why are they making it even more of a pro-body-blocking perk for DH users? And why is so much anti-tunnel getting nerfed? StB, OtR, Babysitter by Diminishing, the basekit protections, and now BT as well. It actually feels like they want killers to hard tunnel.

  • I agree, this perk should remain the way it is. It doesn't even need to extend the elusive to be good, if anything I think that actually makes it better because it retains the surprise factor of having longer endurance

  • The use case for the new Borrowed Time is for builds that use anti-tunnel aggressively to take a hit on unhook and then also use Dead Hard thirty seconds later.

These builds did not need a new toy.

This comes at the cost of Borrowed Time's identity as an altruistic perk, and of course getting any additional unhook protections after the basekit duration was nerfed and given an easy to track timer. If the devs really want Elusive to be the new meta for anti-tunnel, then at the very least they need to apply it to the unhooker as well because it does NOTHING when you run away from hook and your teammate just follows you to try to get the heal.

  • I should have waited a day for my anti-tunnel timeline I guess.

Anyway @sizzlingmario4 has a great idea for how the perk would actually be really useful as an anti-tunnel perk.

I suspect though we'll hear people say 'no, it's now actually S Tier. You just need to combine it with adrenaline, get unhooked with the last gen half way done, tank the hit, last out the chase, and boom, heal for the end game.'

  • their reasoning for the change doesn’t even make sense too. they said because of basekit elusive, they don’t want to add it to BT. Why?? they’re acting like an extra 10 seconds of Elusive off hook will break the game or be insanely overpowered. all it will do is help the unhooked survivor have a better chance at escaping the area to go find someone to heal them (like BT is SUPPOSED TO DO).

It’s a real shame since BT was one of the only perks that punished the killer from sniffing a survivor’s back and counting to 10 after they’ve been unhooked to cheese a quick down.

i know killer players have been vocal about the game not feeling fun for them which is understandable but with the way the devs are trying to address it, it’s going a bad direction. making survivor miserable and not fun will just swing the complaints in the other direction. we can’t just keep nerfing anything and everything on survivor every update.

Idk where you've been hearing feedback but surviors aren't exactly having the time of their lives in the current game state.

  • There are more source of endurance than just unhook protections and dead hard.

Made for This provides Endurance when you pick up a survivor from dying.

Soul Guard gives you Endurance when you heal/recover from dying.

We're going to live forever grants Endurance to a survivor you pick up.

Then you have killer powers like Legion and Ghoul.

I think the idea behind this change is interesting. It would allow a survivor to build a protection build around MoM. But there's not really many reliable means to give yourself endurance besides Dead Hard to make such a build worthwhile. It is technically a time saver as it means you do not have to mend which is helpful against Legion, but then it's just a similar problem that Virgil was having against Clown/Freddy.

Overall, probably shouldn't change BT to this as the design space is just not well supported with current game mechanics.

  • out of the whole patch this was the only change I had to a 2nd, 3rd and 4th take on.

Definitely a questionable change, I think bhvr burnt what they were cooking.

Legion, Ghoul, and Deathslinger should not interact with new Borrowed Time because you need to gain Deep Wounds while you have Endurance in order for it to activate. Those powers don't give Survivors Endurance, it just puts them into Deep Wounds.

It's kind of funny your posts came right below @Rogue11 's.

I'm not sure what the scenario is where you get hit by these killers where endurance would not already trigger deep wounds.

I missed the whole "while having endurance". That is my bad. I don't think it really changes much about the rest of my point. I think the concept of the perk is interesting, but unless survivors have more tools to give themselves endurance the perk doesn't really accomplish much besides time saving. And if survivors had a lot of tools to give themselves endurance, it would be a pain to face survivors endurance chaining mid chase.

  • new BT sounds like it was designed for old dbd, back when there was no basekit BT when survivors were expected to use the endurance to take hits.

now you DO NOT take hits in modern dbd. this is so backwards. With the BT endurance and Babysitter Elusive, people should be GOING AWAY from the killers!

But what exactly is fun for those complaining killers? That tunneling wasn't easy enough? That survivors had perks that actually did things? That their KRs are only 70% and not 80% or 90%?

And it's not as though the queues have suffered. The killer queue has been longer than normal for months. It's almost like the complaints were empty.

I would need to see footage to know if this would work as a time saver. Like, does the auto mend pause your timer so you're able to hop on a gen or do you need to keep sprinting for those thirty seconds? The description doesn't elaborate.

Just based on the description, the philosophy of this design seems to be Endurance chaining. You run one Endurance perk like the ones you listed (or use unhook Endurance) and then Dead Hard for a second hit. You could bring Mettle of Man as the fourth perk to get value from making those two hits protection hits, but I still think the main draw is getting multiple Endurance hits.

  • I dont understand the change to BT in general. It is a very unpopular Perk, I dont think I have ever seen it since they added Basekit Endurance. Or at least I did not notice it. And you would think that they would buff an unpopular Perk, but for some reason they changed it in a way that at best it can be used by people who use Endurance aggressively, but I think even those would not use it.

I think BT should have been buffed and if the Devs would have slapped on Elusive on it, it would have also been fine. Not that I think it would have made the Perk more popular, Elusive is highly overrated. But it would just be a logical and easy Buff.

Deep wounds last 20 seconds, is paused while running/mending, and it takes 10 seconds to mend. BT at T3 is 30 second of auto mending.

In order to be put into Deep Wounds means the killer would have to hit you first and likely you are in the process of running. So in the situation where the killer hits you off hook and you run off, you can just hop on a gen and start working on it and you'll likely finish auto mending before you go down.

You don't want this with MFT though, you want to be in deep wound to keep the 3% haste

  • Yeah, I'm pretty much fine with every other change EXCEPT for BT. Although I speak from personal bias, it's pretty much the perk I use one everyone almost all the time and have done so far several years. It takes up a permament spot and it's muh baby….Please don't kill it, I genuinely cannot live without it.

Fwiw, it already works this way in the live build, it extends the haste and endurance but it does not extend the elusive effect

Then what are they talking about, 'didn't like the idea of BT extending it's duration'.

  • I don't agree with it, but I can see them not wanting Borrowed Time to extend endurance and elusive. But this rework is dog water. It's like they couldn't come up with any sort of decent ideas for a rework or are content for this perk to stay unused in the bloated sea of survivor perks that only keeps growing.

With this rework I can only see this perk being paired with Dead Hard.

  • I can see this being very obnoxious against Legion ngl

  • @Thirteen said:

Mend from deep wounds caused by taking hits while having endurance. Please read. :) You're not first person commenting this here. To trigger it you have to tank hit with basekit bt, off the record or other perks like soul guard or dead hard.

And btw automend against legion would be awfull as you want to finish mend after his power is over so you don't give him opportunity to 5th strike.

  • They either need to revert it or come up with a different effect. The idea of the perk itself is an altruistic anti-tunnel perk about protecting people, and it was barely used once most of its effect became base kit.

Changing it from an altruistic perk to a selfish perk that is incredibly niche and barely even has an effect by itself without running another perk is a bad idea and their only major mistake in this new patch imo.

Running the perk alone, it would only ever activate if you were hit after being unhooked. It isn't even protecting you from being tunneled since Deep Wound is paused when running, so if youre at a point where you can stop running and have it tick down, then you aren't even in chase anymore and could just spend 10 seconds mending yourself anyways.

They could make it work like Michonne's Conviction perk, but granting its effect to a survivor you unhook. It would fit within the themeing of "Borrowed Time" to allow the survivor to heal themselves only to re-down themselves after a set amount of time.
