Isn't *Turn Back the Clock just a better Pop goes the Weasel ?

Title is self explanatory - but why would anyone use Pop > TBTC? I can understand if you're running nowhere to hide, overcharge, etc - but those are additional perk slots.

TBTC lets you damage a generator mid-chase, damage one from afar, stops you from having to really choose between chase vs damaging generator, etc.

I'm not saying either of them are too strong or too weak - as they both have cons/advantages - but - from my experience TBTC just offers better relative value.

For instance - my 2 main killers rn (Dracula/Xenomorph) use these 2 builds and TBTC gets insane value

Dracula : Pain Res, TBTC, Deadlock, Ultimate weapon (With warg fang/ killer doll addons)

Xenomorph : Pain Res, TBTC, Bamboozle, Superior Anatomy (With Self destruct bolt + headset) (vaults vaster than survivors lol)

my point being - TBTC just lets you keep chase vs having to go back to a generator after chase or sacrifice a chase for a generator

  • Pretty much, I don't use either. Surge by itself is more than enough for me. Never really been into regression or slowdown stacking.

    Surge is pretty good too

  • I'm a Legion main, Surge is his best option so I can have 3 other perks to help him cover his obvious weakness'

Tried TBTC when it released a couple times. Ehh just wasn't for me, felt clunky.

  • Pop has a bigger value if 15% and it stacks with other gen kicking perks like eruption or nowhere to hide, also I think it lasts longer.

TBTC is great with remote slowdown (like pain res or DMS), but also can sometimes save the gen when survivors are doing it infront of the killer and it's fun to get some activations through cracks or a window or from a different floor.

Both are great and I don't think one is better than the other.

  • Yes and no. It depends on situations, maps, what other 3 perks you are going to run and which killer you want to play. Obviously on indoor maps Pop is the superior choice but even in open maps gens will be obstrucked to some degree so TBTC isn't a complete slam dunk.

Not to mention if you have multiple people on gen and try to stop it from popping, inevitably someone will come back to undo the regression while you chase someone else. Imo both perks in this situation have flaws but if you have mobility power or perks supporting Pop like Eruption or Brutal then I think Pop is the better one in this scenario. If you have more passive slowdown like Grim or Pain Res, then TBTC is the superior choice.

And lastly the killers. Any killers with ways to catch up to survivor but unable to interact with environment (think Jason or Dredge) will benefit from Pop more than someone like Wraith or Dracula that just do a drive-by and get more value out of TBCT. Slow killers should almost always bring TBCT.

  • Better yet run them together why get big regression on one gen when you can get big regression on two gens?

  • Pop is extremely powerful on killers with consistent mobility, this is why on slower killers you want to be running "Passive Slowdown" (Pain Res, TBTC, Surge) while more "Manual Slowdown" perks are better on mobility killers such as Nurse, Blight, Wesker, Wraith, ect. Being really good at using perks like Oppression, Pop, Lay Waste, while yes the passive slowdown perks are very powerful, I personally think that gen kicking perks are significantly better on mobile killers.

I will disagree with that on nurse it's better to use "manual slowdown" as she is the showest killer and it's better to use blinks to chase the survivor.

And also wraith has a good combo with turn back the clock when using the meme add-on.

  • I've always looked at the comparison between the two as a trade-off:

Pop is makes the next kick much more powerful, but you still gotta go over there to kick the thing. it can also be paired with other gen-kicking perks (Nowhere to Hide, Lay Waste, Eruption, etc) if you're using them.

Turn Back the Clock is half as powerful, but can be done from further away and, as OP says, mid-chase. Handy if you're more chase oriented and don't want to stop for the kick.

To me, which is better or worse is going to depend on the killer you've picked and personal play-style.

You still use your blinks to traverse the map, ex: Hook survivor > Teleport to gen > Power is on cool down so you kick gen > now that gen is kicked power is off of cool down and you chase survivor. This is why you see many Nurses running Eruption as it improves this gameplay loop significantly.

The Wraith build uses a meme add-on for a reason, it sucks. Yeah you can get a free injury after you hook a survivor but your actual chase power is severely hindered since you cannot create dead zones fast mid chase by kicking multiple pallets in a row, doing so would give the survivor immense distance.

  • I would say pop is the better perk and works best with more mobile killers. Turn back the clock while not as good is nicer for low mobility killers. I actually really like using Turn back the clock with Nemmy because it helps you keep your momentum while the explosion itself notifies zombies keeping them around the area which is nice.

  • To me, Turn Back the Clock is more of a casual anti-gen perk, since it lets you regress gen without worrying too much about losing pressure. It don't let you stack with perks like Eruption, Overcharge, Nowhere to Hide, etc etc. Also, the 5% regression difference from Pop can make a difference while holding a 3gen.

Pop is for those more focused on holdiong a 3 gen or an area, specially when combined with other gen kick perks.

Personally, i've been using Turn Back most of the time. I rather be in chases than kicking gens.

  • 10% additional regression over TBTC is plenty of reason for certain killers to value Pop over the convenience of doing it at range, even if we're just comparing the two on their own.
