The game feels balanced, and I think that’s overlooked
I’m kinda new to this forum thing but I see a lot of arguing about what role the game is tilted towards. I think personally it’s dependent on solo queue or swf. I play way more killer (I was gold 2 on killer and ash 1 on surv) so my view might be skewed. When I play against a swf of three or four, I find my games are usually very close and a 2k is usually the case for me, even when playing a “top tier” killer. Playing against solo queue I can usually do better and get 3 or 4. I personally don’t think swf should be removed because if it was survivors would be at the solo queue disadvantage all the time and I think it would hurt the game.
I’m not gonna talk about the event because it is survivor sided and I don’t know historically how the events have been besides this one.
I also see a lot of people complaining about cheese perks and strategies like tunneling and slugging. I think there’s as many cheese perks for killer as there are for survivor, if not a few more on survivor with sprint burst and lithe but those are counterable anyway and I don’t find them too frustrating to deal with. As a survivor I’ve never been tunneled or slugged for a 4k, but I do think that however frustrating that strategy is for survivors, the strategy of flashlights and or toolbox saves ALL MATCH is equally annoying.
I’m clearly not super well versed in this game and I haven’t been playing long so I don’t know how it’s been historically, but I just find personally the game is almost always enjoyable and feels fair because every cheese tech has a cheese counter. My freind just got the game and plays some survivor with me and he still manages to have fun against killers using annoying perks because ultimately it’s just a game. I think there’s something to be said for people playing something so much that instead of enjoying it’s simplicity they nitpick the little issues in their matches.
#positivity I guess, I don’t like seeing people at each others throats over a hobby

I agree that the game feels balanced, but only if the two sides in a given match are relatively the same skill level. I think most of the complaints about the game not being balanced are coming from players who are just not very good at the game and/or players who are continuously falling victim to the nonfunctional matchmaking system that is repeatedly putting them in matches with/against others way outside their skill range. This game feels very balanced and enjoyable to me when the skill levels are matched appropriately, which sadly seems pretty rare these days.
I think what the game needs is a ranked mode, because it would make it so much easier to separate streamers/ super sweaty players with no lives from regular players.
This is a common request, but I think the biggest issue with that is the sweats don't like to play against other sweats. Having a ranked mode is one thing, but keeping people in their lane is another. I agree with @Your_Dad_Playing_DbD, we need a functional SBMM system first and foremost. Then it'll be easier to assess balance. But overall, I do think the game is in the best state it's been in since I started playing years ago. Doesn't mean there's no room for improvement though.
The only possible problem I have with skill based matchmaking changes is that it shouldn’t be super strict. I played a lot of call of duty and the way their sbmm works is that it’s so suffocating that every game feels like you have to sweat your balls off to do okay. I don’t want to see dead by daylight have the same issue. Something in the middle of playing at your level while maintaining some leeway so your games don’t feel the same.
it depends.
DBD mobile had public leaderboards that you saw immediately upon loading the game up.
People would most definitely play ranked if it had recognition and rewards.
I would hate to see dbd become like every other online game, but since there’s already a battle pass there could be season specific ranked cosmetics linked to the battle pass. I like how mortal kombat did their ranked, as it’s sweaty in ranked and wildly varied in casual.
I think once you put prestige behind a ranked grind, a lot of top-end stuff shifts a bit. Especially content creation.
Who's going to want to watch a winstreak is the casual mode? Who's going to clip farm in a casual mode? There would be pressure on CC'S to play against people of their skill level which would solve that issue.
That isnt to say MMR update shouldn't come alongside it. The issue is that people will just start making alt accounts (they already do.)
It's so refreshing that you acknowledge that you're new. The forum always has a constant flow of angry new players who don't take any time to learn the game so they blame their issues on it while also thinking they're high MMR somehow. There are people obsessed with winning who won't accept any losses. There are frustrated burnouts. There are gaming addicts. Don't let all the anger twist your view, and when your matches start getting harder, just roll with it and keep improving. There's tunneling and slugging for the 4k in every survivor session I play. There are comp level SWFs that leave me with 2 hooks. If you play enough you're going to get to the point where people have 10k hours and are better than you and they're going to be extremely aggressive. If you can accept that than you you'll manage okay and the game will feel fairly balanced.
I appreciate that! Idk I just play to have fun, maybe some of it is that I’m on console so I don’t have to hear endgame chat all the time but it’s just a game
As David Lee Roth said- “we’re here for a good time, not a long time”
There's going to be variance game to game anyway. People have good days and bad days.
The sweat problem only really comes in if you want it to. You can be quite skilled but play relaxed and you'll end up in lobbies with players either doing the same thing or doing their best when their best is your chill.
I only ever sweat in DBD if I'm having fun against an opponent who is very similar in level to me, especially if they're a good sport about it.
That’s a great point!
Hyper-competitve players treat this game like a war and they often dominate the conversations. Keep that attitude of fun and and you'll be good. I'm also on console and didn't have any contact with this community until 1k hours in. The isolation was nice. I'm glad I've met some really cool people but otherwise I regret involving myself in the world outside of the game. They will just make you angry.
The end game chat is whatever if you don’t have thin skin. I actually love trash talking on it. But just like Xbox and PS players can restrict their messaging, PC players can close the chat. They just choose not to.
Play enough killer to reach high MMR. You'll know when you get there. Play a killer below A-tier, let me know when things change. If the game still "feels balanced", you not there yet.
The game is definitely more balanced than it's ever been outside of recent killer releases and lower tier killers.
Dissolution/Bloodfavor need looked at on free injury killers.
Spirit Fury should be normal pallet breaks only.
Nurse being the outlier rn, she still needs dealt with, Ghoul needs dealt with too. Jason as well
Krasue needs a sidegrade, spit form nerfed in its spammability and auto aim/cancelability into m1, then look at head form potentially for help it needs.
"High" MMR arguements always make me roll my eyes as no one here has any idea what their MMR is.
Now that we have a "play while you wait" feature. I see no reason why we cant have more accurate MMR.
They did it for a while years ago but top tier Killer players had very long ques.
I'm sorry but game is not balanced at all. Mainly because:
→ Every match has it's own RNG, so one Backwater Swamp will spawn 4 good pallets in the middle and second match there will be only hill and nothing else.
→ Killers have too diverse strenght. You should have about even chance to win same game with most, at best every killer. If you jump on Midwich with Blight, Dracula or Jason you shouldn't lose but if you are there with Skull Merchant, Leatherface… you struggle a lot.
→ There are perks that are insanely strong - sprint burst, resurgence, vigil… and perks that are not even worth running like flow state, spine chill, leader, no one left behind, boon:illumination…
→ Ping does a lot, bugs do a lot… lately there been a lot of invisible random stuck spots.
Don't be ridiculous. They're all The Best Players That Ever Lived and everyone they don't agree with is so low in MMR it's in the negative numbers. How could people who do nothing but complain about challenges be anything but the greatest?
