If you mean the upcoming graphical update that is in development, yes… That's my concern too, though I am a PC user. I'm more likely to be able to afford a PS5 than I am to be able to upgrade my PC anytime soon and I say more likely as in still not something I can afford.
unfortunately I don't think so. but you have about a year for it to even get to that points. maybe even longer since wheather effect might not even come till far after the standard visual overhaul.
The graphical rework isnt scheduled for the next Patch but for sometime over a year ahead, so nobody probably not even BHVR can say yet. And even then, this might even take longer to implement than they are currently expecting or maybe some things will Need to be dropped - these seemed like very ambitious upgrades after all for a Game that is already running pretty poorly on older gens..
Plus side you have until the second half of 2027 at the earliest to upgrade, but I hope if they are going to drop support for console users on older generations that they announce it early enough so people can prepare.
It's a double edged sword, the game is 10 years old, going strong, and they want to continue supporting it for another 10 rather than making DBD2. It deserves to evolve and modernise itself without being shackled to older generation consoles, and the side effect of that is potentially dropping support for older platforms. I feel for people who aren't easily able to upgrade though.
I know how you feel, OP. I've gone from being kinda hyped for the 10th Anniversary and all the things to come to wondering if I'll even be able to play the game in the near future.
Since we've just had the anniversary stream love-in, I think it's time for BHVR to really prove how much they do appreciate their player base. I think they owe it to us to at least let us know if the game is going to become unplayable on low end PCs and the older consoles and they need to do it pretty soon. And it would be a good idea to de-list the game to new players on the old platforms 6 months to a year before they finally get the chop.
As soon as I found out that Star Wars Hunters on Switch was going to be killed off, I stopped playing it completely. I felt there was no reason to keep playing a dead game at that point. Obviously DBD will continue on, but I'd appreciate a similar heads up so I don't go spending money or investing more time into a game that I won't be able to play pretty soon (it may be quite a while before I can play again).
Do not know if this is a joke, but new gen consoles such as PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are more than enough able to handle games like Forza Horizon 6, Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil Requiem, and many more high graphics games. (I speak from experience)
Unlikely when the graphical update comes. at this point though the PS5 launched in 2020, PS4 should be considered a deprecated system and basically on life support. Hell we are probably starting to get to the point of announcing a PS6 in the next couple of years.

I mean probably not; maybe technically it may remain playable on PS4, but functionally? Odds are not good.
At the risk of sounding insensitive, it's probably not realistic to expect to be able to play an evolving game over the course of 10+ years and have it remain fully playable on hardware that is generations old for the entire time.
And I can't imagine a Switch 1 not just melting in the attempt.
And some may note the DBD isn't exactly bleeding edge in its presentation (and it probably won't be even after the update), but BHVR aren't exactly top of the foodchain coders/optimizers, either. Not to offend anyone, but it's just the truth of the matter.

Will the PS5?
I think so. Like If your Console can Handle The RE remakes then im sure it can.
It's still possible for them to just Stop support for us Lower end Consoles.
These Images are on Switch 1. RE Village and DBD Graphics. If ur PS 4 Can Handle RE Village then it can handle the Graphics update
