Ranked Mode

The entirety of DBD's major problems such as tunneling, slugging, going next, and giving up early could be solved by a ranked game mode. These issues mainly exist when players of majorly differing skill levels face each other. @deadbydaylight Please consider a ranked mode!

I don't think you need to add all of the proposed changes from the ptb to solve tunneling and slugging. A ranked game mode would serve as a healthy environment for bronze players to learn how to play against other bronze players, while also allowing top competitive players to go full out against each other. This way quickplay can allow casual players to go next, as a ranked mode would penalize quitters more heavily. People experience the frustrations of dbd when they get completely demolished and the game is one sided. Creating two separate environments for your players is far healthier, far less invasive, and much simpler than the proposed ptb changes.

Much like your other game modes are limited as you would like to gauge feedback, I think a 2 week ranked mode would be an interesting experiment, permitted queue times are not too bad. Please consider a ranked mode <3

  • yes rankmode. stop using the win rate to balance a game that has a lot of different aspects +30 diff killers, swf and soloq, casual players that throw themselves to the killer and scape streak seekers, iris addons, etc. win rate means nothing when a stealth is playing in an open map and next match he is getting a 4k.

    rankmode needs:

more information and comms to reduce the gap from soloq and swf.

I also think some killers need some balancing differences like map ban for example open map for stealth killers or hawkings for huntress, etc.

  • As the 2v8 mode repeatedly shows us, the game simply doesn't have the player count to support splitting the community.

  • ranked mode has never fixed this behavior in any game. it just makes the game more competitive and they go to "casual" mode to stomp on people after ranked mode hurt their ego. The only thing adding a ranked mode would do is make this well and truely a competitive e-sports type of game. causing a further influx of "I have to be the best" players, influx of cheaters to show off their rank, and the mass exodus of "I just wanna have fun" players.

The issue isn't the game or lack of ranked mode. Its the hyper-competitive mindset and the absolute desperation for dopamine and external validation of being really really good at a video game. The type of kids who turn mario party into a tactical strategic game where not having the most stars means theyre a failure to their entire bloodline. Like no…you can have competition and stil be casual and fun. Comp kids are generally incapable of it and mask their anger through disingenuous "gg" at the end of a match.

I see two pathways here. The ones who sweat so hard and play so toxic that noone else is allowed to have should go to therapy and take to heart the "winning isnt everything" philosophy. Or the devs need to figure out the identity of DBD. Do they want this to be yet another competitive game with an insanely toxic community like valorant, marvel rivals, LoL, etc. Or Do they want this to be a game only focused on mutual fun and enjoyment.

Back when i first started DBD in 2017, I played to win and often went too hard on the survivors. It only ever left the end game chat with hate. I got bored of that because its been almost a decade and I grew up. Now I play, yes to win, but also with humor and personality. The vast majority of survivors are goobers and will joke around too if you let them. Heck I was doing scratched mirror Myers on a 4 man swf streamer. I was DOMINATING them. But i also played with personality and humor where the end game chat was hilarious and wholesome. One of the streamers was laughing so hard at the match they were weazing. This is what DBD has the potential to be. Funny and Positive but also PVP. Not this "Us vs Them"..""show me your stats or your opinion is invalid"…"Im not responsible for your fun", crap that this game has become.

I realize this comes off and aggressive and rude. Sorry for that. But i have seen too many games lose its spark and joyful community after the competitive e-sports community claims it as theirs.

I think the overwhelming success of 2v8 also shows the community really doesnt want a competitive mode…they want to have fun

Very much this. The people who slug and tunnel do so because they aren't able to get kills playing any other way.

    Nah.

I slug and tunnel because that’s the most fun part of the game—when both sides go all-in, no holdbacks.

I’d be 100% down for a ranked mode too; I’d wait longer queues for ranked than for a normal match.

  • I completely agree with the ranked mode. It’s healthier to experience tough battles like a few years ago neverthless having slower matches.

i think its deeper than just a ranked mode fixing it, there seems to be an issue with power trips and a "im the killer so i deserve to be powerful" mentality, and too much power in the wrong hands is what got us here.

slugging wouldnt automatically be fine if it was during a ranked mode. in fact, i think a ranked mode would be more restrictive and everyone who says they want a ranked mode have the wrong idea of what a ranked mode would entail.

ranked would mean lots of rules, on both sides.

edit: and i think queue times are suffering too much. i dont play killer anymore because of them. i genuinely dont think dbd can stand 2 separate main queues on top of the modifiers as well.

  • Better idea yet, Disable the Anti- Tunneling systems for top MMR Games.

  • We had ranked games only for years. I am not up to date with the current matchmaking system, but it's the same forever. Low ranks: killer dominate high ranks: killer get bullied.

  • Personally, i’m only interested in variety. Other games COD primarily have rotating game mode. At this point we need variety besides 4v1 gen rush.

    Hey Survivors & Killers! 👋

DBD’s 4v1 is iconic, but matches can feel repetitive, and some mechanics- hexes, fog, maps, chests - don’t get enough love. Other games keep things fresh with rotating modes.

I’ve drafted seven possible permanent rotating modes-four tension-focused and three exploration/reward - to mix up gameplay and encourage strategy, stealth, and teamwork. Would love community feedback and thoughts for BHVR on which modes sound most fun or how to tweak them!

    Tension-Focused Modes

    • Sudden Death: Survivors only get 2 hook stages; killers get slight buffs. Objective: Every encounter is high-stakes. Survivors must carefully plan rescues and generator runs because mistakes are costly.

    • Trail of Shadows: Only one survivor is visible at a time. Objective: Use stealth and misdirection to evade the killer, or for killers, anticipate movements and track strategically.
      • Perks (1 per player): Decisive Strike, Diversion, Head-On & Lithe/Sprint Burst
      • Always Active: Urban Evasion

    • Predator vs Prey: Killers gain temporary tracking after major survivor actions; survivors get small counters. Objective: Complete objectives while avoiding detection, creating tense cat-and-mouse moments.

    • Encore: Survivors are a “band,” each limited to their signature band perk.
Objective: Complete generators while staying near teammates to boost “performance synergy.” Healing, cleansing, and interacting with objectives grant small buffs if nearby teammates support. Killers must disrupt the “performance.”
      Band Perk Options:
    • Kate Denson – Dance With Me: Encourages stealth and smooth movement.
    • Ace Visconti – Up the Ante: Bonus luck and item effectiveness.
    • Vee Boonyasak – Ghost Notes, One-Two-Three-Four!, Road Life (team coordination, timing, and movement)
    • Zarina Kassir – For the People: Boosts team support and interaction.
    • David King – Dead Hard: Action-oriented escape mechanic.
    • Nea Karlsson – Balanced Landing: Agility and flair for movement.
    • Meg Thomas – Sprint Burst: Classic fast movement and repositioning.
    • Aestri Yazar – Bardic Inspiration: Grants small buffs to nearby teammates during coordinated actions.

    Exploration & Reward Modes

    • Hexed Grounds: Extra hexes and environmental hazards like blocked pallets or trap windows. Objective: Navigate the map, disable or cleanse hexes, and manage hazards while completing generators.

    • Entity’s Reach: Certain map zones are controlled by the Entity, and survivors must interact to progress objectives. Objective: Explore shifting zones to repair, cleanse, or collect items before the killer intercepts.

    • Tainted Fog: Fog Vials are always active; survivors get minor debuffs, killers gain small buffs. Objective: Use the fog for strategic positioning, completing objectives safely or ambushing opponents.

I’d love to hear what ya'll think add your ideas in the comment or if any of these interest you speak!
