Comp mode ideas
If a comp mode were to exist how would you want it to be? Highest mmr with and against highest mmr? Instead of putting one expert, two intermediate, and one novice on a team?
Perk bans? No limits? What would a comp mode look like to you?
Comments
One comp mode would need to be 1v1 with limitations on killers perks and maps.
I guess a real 1v4 comp mode would need a bunch of perk, addon, map and item limitations. Also be dependant on the killer.
I didn’t even think about 1v1. That’d be interesting.
On the other hand. You don't know your MMR and will never know it because it remains hidden. That's why there are external organizers and websites.
Maybe a comp mode could let you see your mmr. You can challenge someone and your mmr increases or decreases after the duel.
I mean if it didn't what would even be the purpose of such a mode?
100%
if it were to get a comp mode I would like the game to have something similar to overwatch or rainbow six siege bronze silver gold to triple chungus deluxe rank
The 1v1 mode would need less eng on maps, even on a singular map the rng is too much, so I guess the tile spawn would need more rulations, so you get the map always in the same strenght... Not necessarily exactly the same map everytime, but at least the same strenght.
I'd want it to automatically put all the sweatlords into the comp queue so I can just exist in casual for the vibes
And what prevents people from sweating in casual? And how that system manage it to automatically do that? It would just be seperat queues with different rules/limitations. I don't see how it could potentially sort people... The system cannot even manage to determine skill aside from escape or sacrifice, how would it be able to determine a sweaty playstyle? Something that is entirely dependant on the definition of what is sweaty...
I would like a ranked 1vs1 mode.
The maps change in a certain timewindow but are always the same for all players (if bhvr even has a seed-system?).
The killer and survivor changes in a certain timewindow aswell, of course the rules get changed if the killer is blight or nurse.
You would always spawn shack with the killer on door- and survivor on palette-side (they can't move until the game starts).
Both of them can choose 2 perks and the survivor get a firecracker.
The game starts with a 10 second timer after the survivor crouches and after the timer the killer is forced to do a fully launch-attack in the direction he's looking.
The win-condition is to have a higher-survivaltime than the opponent as survivor.
I don't really know how the point-system for the ranks should work but that's the idea so far.
(That's just the basic-concept I thought about, it's mostly the 1vs1-rules I saw on youtube, but I don't know them all so I probably forgot a few)
Proper MMR brackets, named ranks representing that MMR (and showing them to you and everybody else, of course), strict matchmaking that searches teammates and opponents in a small range above and below that rank (-/+ 1 or 2), and a separate "unranked mode" that prioritizes finding a match fast where you can't gain or lose any MMR. Like most of the ranked games out there.
From there, yeah, other alternatives modes with perk rules, 1v1, or whatever the community feels like and BHVR approves, why not.
Just copy and paste what most tournaments do. Limit what survivors can bring while also banning things like grim embrace, deadlock, dms, etc on the killer side. Both of which are typical in tournaments. Obviously things like the anti facecamp system would need to be removed entirely. In addition you would need strict MMR to make it have any sort of meaning. Then you can turn the other queue into a casual mode that has heavy protections against tunneling, camping, etc. Maybe with a system to prevent "gen rushing" as well to satisfy killers. I think this would fix most issues the game has if done properly. The wannabe comp tryhards would hopefully be obsessed with climbing in rank so they would avoid the casual queue.
nobody said it was feasible they just asked what i wanted
Well for me to take comp seriously you'd have to have a lot of things filtered (however that would happen).
-No tunneling
-Balanced Maps Only
-No syringe/styptic/BNP
-Item limitations
-No SWF
NO Tunneling on highest DBD level? And no SWF? It doesn't make sense. You just would create strong soloq…
I don't like anything that the game is either not balanced properly for or removes skill. Tunneling and SWF removes skill and the game isn't balanced around SWF. If all those limitations were in place with more accurate mmr matching solo queue would be a balanced match.
Conp is killing dbd with all the balance changes to the game regular playing aspects COMP KILLS EVER GAME because the game then has to be balance around it not around having just but only for comp players look at dbd back in the day almost ever loop was doubble the size and was easily able to have fun with bow it just boring because very is a guaranteed hit for free most vault in the game are conpleetley countered by tear 1 bl tjat just tear 1 at tear 3 all pallets even almost shack is pointless
Just add a separate queue with ranks and tighter matchmaking to start. People have to remember that every DbD balance discussion around high level play starts with assumptions and made up things regarding MMR. An unrestricted ranked queue where everyone is going into the game intending to sweat it out has never happened. There is not nearly enough data on it to make huge balance restrictions out of the gate.
This would obviously be contingent on BHVR having some agility, but I'd vote to just release a ranked queue and give it a few months. See what happens. If balance changes truly need to happen, then make them. But remember that most people's opinions regarding this boil down to "I think I'm high MMR (never hard numbers because we're making this up...just 'high') and I lost to a team that I'm convinced was a SWF on comms".
The difficulty as developers is going to be balancing for two modes if they take that route. Can a perk function differently in a ranked/unranked mode? Only the devs can answer that. What do you do if NOED isn't problematic in unranked but has a wild correlation to win rates in X rank?
Here’s my take. Current 60/40 doesn’t feel like it is primarily because of stats and numbers behind perks and Killer powers. It feels like the 60/40 is being enforced by the mmr system.
I know that escapes and kills ultimately determine if your rating goes up or down. But I truly think it’s not the only number that determines who you get matched with. I think that chase time, gen time etc also factor in. It’s why I think each team is usually 1-2-1. 1 expert- 2 intermediates- 1 novice.
I bet Bhvr could make the KR 50/50 by adjusting the strength of Survivor teams to make it 3 intermediates and an expert.
This is what I would like to see in a comp mode, the true value of all the numbers played out by the best of the best that the mmr puts together. No more handicapped teams. No more experts playing with intermediates and novices but instead with other experts, full blown seal team 6 opponents.
It would take courage to see the mechanics and numbers displayed so nakedly but I think it’s something the community wants.
yeah probably no perks, items, addons, and probably only specific killers could be used (not sure about that part but perhaps), and less RNG based map generation for tiles to level out the playing field to some degree. I’m not sure though
I’d actually want to throw all of it into a comp mode and see what rises to the top.
We don't need a comp mode. We just need a ranked mode, where…
1) We can see MMR scores
2) Any sort of rift, event, or daily challenges are deactivated
3) Something is done to discourage ragequitting and lone wolf survivors
This
interesting. Do you think they would start to balance things more so based off of comp mode though?
Honestly? Yes probably, which ultimately I do not want. But if Bhvr does decide to do a comp modifier this is how I would want it done.
