Thoughts About DCing Solution?

Prologue

TL;DW

He suggests we fix things that causes survivors (or killers) to DC rather than punishing DCing even more.

He also explains you can't punish people who kill themselves on the hook instead of DCing because it's a grey area for the people who have bad connection or it's a new player.

Also, try to keep everything civilized because I know this is a sensitive subject for a lot of people. :)

That is my point though, unanimously agreed upon by whom? The vocal minority? It's too subjective to determine and you can't base it on what gets the most DCs in a match either because that just weaponizes DCs like what happened with Freddy.

Again, no one is saying that better balance won't result in less DCs, it probably would, but that shouldn't be the focus of the issue.

Holy moly, didn't think I would ever reach 30 notifications before! So many people to discuss with and talk about this as a community! :D

I think @ScottJund is trying to point at things the majority of the community, both killers and survivors, think are just unfun.

This includes a lot of things such as Ebony Mori, certain killer add-ons, keys, insta-heals, and so on.

Players typically DC because they had enough. Well, if we can figure out why they "had enough" then we can try to alleviate the unfun factor of certain things — which could help both sides overall.

If he is toxic he had it coming, skilled when you cant die? Skilled are Quake Players, nobody blocks you because you are innocent, and as I said before I you wanna tryhard this is not a competitive game, Skilled guy needs to slow down a bit.

What happens when a toxic player is ruining games and causing DCs to tons of people with those lame things I have already named?

"nobody blocks you because you are innocent"

    Is that so?

No, it's not. You just fail to understand the flaws of what you propose. You also fail to view things outside of a "punish Killers" mentality, given how you responded to the issues I raised as though I were talking about Killers even though I was referring to players in general and not Killers specifically.

  • So if adjusting the "reasons people DC" is the answer, how do you stop more things from becoming the "reason people DC" in order for them to be adjusted?

  • @ScottJund said:

Just want to emphasize the uselesness of harsher punishments for disconnecting. It will still not solve the problem of people not wanting to play the particular game they are in. Its just a flow chart:

Disconnecting bannable -> Suicide on hook -> Suicide on hook bannable -> minimize the game until its over -> AFKing bannable -> minimize and move every minute to prevent crows.

No matter what, its the same result. The survivor doesn't play the game and the people left in the game are damaged because of it. You cannot fix that with punishments, you fix the reasons why to begin with.

I get your point but it depends on what things the player who disconnected wants fixing. To me they will never be happy with the game and continue to disconnect even if everything was fully working as intended.

An example is this sudden trend of hating going against Spirits. People will disconnect at first sight of her, same with nurse. It's been like that for so many killers and the people who seem to not suffer any consequences to their actions are the ones in fact doing all the disconnecting.

I don't think you can claim harsher punishments are useless because in essence disconnecting gives you no negative effect if you do it. It's just too convenient to eject yourself from a match and go onto the next match where you'll likely disconnect for a completely new reason.

If you disconnect prolifically you need to have a badge of shame, because it ruins the game for so many people and it makes it a more normal option to leave the match and let your teammates have a horrible game.

A 2 minute wait time to search for a match would be a start. It'll punish you from jumping from match to match ruining the game for others. These people have no respect and it's about time punishment for being a poopoohead was dished out.

All the mixed opinions about the dedicated servers, I think the one thing the majority of people are finally glad that's being done is the tracking of how many matches each person will disconnect in.

Disconnecting is a selfish, ignorant and for some reason seems to be something that people are proud to admit they're doing.

And for anyone who thinks disconnecting against a killer running a Mori, ruin or unfun stuff is a reason to disconnect then ask yourself how would you like it if killers just left at the start of each game if you played a certain Survivor, was hiding too much, disarming traps, destroying hooks, running OoO, using exhaustion perks, using borrowed time, bringing strong items with add ons, flashlight saves, poor map rng, hard map, basement wrong place, blendettes, body blocking, unbreakables, deliverance, etc. If survivors disconnect for so little as survivor then if they were playing killer they would have about 5 times as much reason to disconnect by their book. The difference is the "I'm not letting you catch me" attitude and the ignorance that makes you think that disconnecting is a tool given to Survivors to eject themselves when the going gets tough.

When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Disconnecting is not an escape punishment is important.

  • Even if people didn't dc and there was a voted forfeit option the survivors can take..killer would still complain because they didn't get to have fun. One side is trying there hardest to force fun at the others expense. Add a forfeit and watch people not be satisfied still.

This guy in the video understand you can't force people to stay in matches where you already 10/10 know how are gonna end up. Yes, there are people who leave way too much and should be punished somehow, but you're walking a thin line trying to force people to endure a one sided match. People have lives and limited time to play games sometimes to be sitting around wasting their time all the while not having fun.

This is why some competitive games have that option to conceid and move on to the next one. If they ever do add a queue timer they might as well start looking into a vote to conceid as well. Imo

  • Honestly I would like to see players which are known to disconnect have an icon by their names in the lobby.

The icon gives you the option to kick from lobby. Let it be upto the other players in the match if they want to risk being left behind by yet another person who think they can disconnect again and again.

Once they stop disconnecting they won't be able to be kicked.

Whats the flaw? 95% of the DCs are made by survivors, nobody is asking to punish them, but If I dont wanna play with some toxic streamer that has 370 ebony moris nobody is going to force me to do it, in my personal case I must open twitch to see if Im in the lobby of 2 dumb tryhards, because every time they see me its mori and ultra rares, so far I´ve never fell into their traps, one of them puts a picture in the players part and another in the ready lines.

The other plays Nurse with Ultra Rares and I really dont care, dont see the point in feeding some loser using a broken killer with no way to evade, and you call that competition?

If I dont wanna play with someone I wont do it, and you want to punish me because I dont want to waste time with some unemployed loser that plays 8 hours a day while begging for donations to get a new headset.

You can block 10 players you want and thats it, there are no betters this is a broken game with no competitive part, its a party game as soon we understand that we can fix the DCs.

Now if you work for BHVR or something well thats another issue, they blur the lines and dont want to tell us its a party game, a game where the killer cant die and its huge and overpowered, and you have 4 humans who cant even throw a punch and all they have is evasion is not competition, specially when they can use ultra rare addons and cut the game in half with a Mori, hell they even let 5 blink Nurses happen...

Competition can be Street Fighter, MK, Quake Live/Champions, Counter Srike, Strategy games, Driving games, Chess, games where BOTH PARTS can die, no risk = no competition.

Here you need 5, different games it deserves a try as I said before, there are no life bozos playing 8 hours a day begging for a headset while playing toxic with ultra rares tunneling camping bodyblocking and the game does nothing, at some point devs must do something, or let dcs happen, after all is not that bad.

What about the killer who slugs the 2nd to last guy so he can hunt down the last, a DC from the slugged player is tactically viable.

As for suicide on hook, if you want to stop that then you have to get rid of the struggle check and make it automatic, and if you're going to do that make wiggle and DS automatic, then you might as well make repairing the gen automatic if you are close to it, skill checks are useless just have the game make those for you too, and hell some of those pesky survivors avoid the gens to make it hard for the killer to find them, let's make them automatically run to the closest gen, maybe with a neon sign over their heads, screw it, why even have gens, let's just spawn the survivors in a line in front of the killer with an empty bright white map that has no where to hide, will that work for you?

The final part is awesome! and the killer says EZ.

Keys are not very useful in Red Ranks, if you do gens only and you escape = depip

    1) This has nothing to do with forcing someone to spam the space bar. It has to do with people forcibly one-hooking themselves to avoid DCing. Besides, I happen to be in favor of removing the need to mash a button/key during the 2nd hook stage.

    2) That simply makes it easier to know who to punish and who not to punish.

It has, someone can just simply try to kobe and then doesn't want to spam spacebar. The kobe mechanic exists for a reason and not just mindlessly.

Are you even thinking 2 steps ahead? You CANT punish it. As soon as harsher punishments gets implement people start suiciding on hook. Good luck trying to punish that aswell.

Suiciding on hook is fine. The killer gets their points. I mean functionally under your logic it would equal the same thing so instead of arguing about it let's just make the survivors suicide on the hook instead of DC. At least the team has the time it took for the killer to down and hook the quitter.

What if it's a new player or someone who lagged?

  • Obviously there is a threshold given. But frankly if your internet connection is such that you are ruining multiple games each and every day then you are an acceptable sacrifice for the better of the game.

Listen, in DOTA2, a game with half a million unique players playing at any given moment and 12-15 million unique players each month, in a world where India loses power daily, players from India still deal with the consequences.

Ones personal situation does not justify or warrant a gaming company allowing a problem to go unaddressed to the detriment of its community.

I couldn't give 1 hoot about the new player excuse. We all were new once and 99% of us have the common sense and decency to know rage quitting is unacceptable. Post a warning wherever suitable, like where they show new players which killer they are facing, and let them learn early.

This is not a small problem. It has become an openly bragged about culture that flaunts DCing as a means to affect change. At its core that means Behav10r has lost control of it's intellectual property.
