Hatch should open when next-to-last survivor is put on death hook, not after the sacrifice completes

Has anyone else been in the situation where the killer can death hook the next to last survivor and still have time to move half the map to the hatch (that hasn't opened yet) and stand there and wait for the hatch to open only to immediately close it.

I guess it comes down to how accessible the devs want the hatch to be to the last survivor in this situation.

Just let hatch open when the second to last survivor gets slugged 🤣

I will admit it I have danced in front of the killers a few times when I opened the hatch. It was my way of saying see ya 😘😂.

  • My way of telling killers bye was me opening the hatch dancing in front of them saying see ya Don’t want to be ya. And they messaged me afterwards 😘 All the salt went loose Towards me😂.

  • Survivors make these kind of suggestions and I sure hope you don't mind bleeding out on the floor for half+ your bar while I hunt the other survivor if these changes were to happen. You want to bleed and crawl and drag matches out, this is how you do it. Making last hooking the second last survivor even less appealing is how you get slugged for multiple minutes.

  • "I would like a free escape made even more convenient"-OP

  • ######### it just start with the gates open

...Says the person playing killer (who has all the advantages currently regarding the hatch). I understand why you would think so...

And you assume that base on...?

  • Wow, so it's already a, "You completely failed, but here's an escape anyway." mechanic, and you want it to be even easier? 🤔

Also, if you're just standing out in the open camping the hatch like a dunce while the killer hooks someone, of course they're going to beeline right to the hatch. Because you're there right out in the open. Because they very likely are running BBQ. They don't have any indication of where the hatch is beforehand - unless you literally tell them.

At least put SOME effort into your free escape. Hide in a locker, don't stand RIGHT by the hatch the entire time. Do something. Jeez.

As it stands, the hunt for the hatch currently favors the killer in several ways. See the orig post for the list.

I have had many matches where i found the hatch first but it was not yet open (btw the death animation and hatch opening) I had to sit there and watch the killer walk over to the hatch, wait for it to open and then close it.

I found the hatch before the killer but because the hatch doesn't open until after the complete sacrifice animation is done, all advantage goes to the killer.

Not to mention the EGC is killer sided...and the gate spawn is usually killer sided (too close to one another)

So i believe that the argument could be made for the hatch opening a few secs sooner.

I've given up playing in large because of issues like this.

I've even found the hatch by chance as 3rd survivor was hooked, and Trapper marched his ass clear across the map, to the hatch, i was standing at, an he was able to close it as it opened before I could click to exit. We were both standing at it. I was there first. I looked at him. He looked at me. I was already clicking frantically to leave And he was still able to close it. Then down me. Then hook me. 1st hook, last hook.

I've worked my tail off doing totems, doing gens, unhooking, taking protection hits and healing. I Pip and even double pip most of the matches played and remain in red ranks. However, all this can still make for a poor game experience when your other 3 survivors are potato goo, keep getting hooked, sandbagging each other, falling for the obvious insidious Leatherface in the basement and dying all before I even get hooked once. Only for the killer to find and close the hatch, snap it shut and stand between the exit gates that are conveniently both in eye shot waiting for me to surrender, making all the work I put into that match pointless because there is ZERO chance at escape.

And now that you don't even get struggle points OR a chance to self unhook because who wants to wait for people to die for the match to end amirite? I play even less. (But Gen-rushing makes the game 'too fast' yeahok)

To me the matches have become the equivalent of going to the butcher and choosing a prime cut of beef, bringing it home, marinading it over night, carefully cooking it on the grill to perfection, letting it sit and rest for just the right time... AND THROWING IT OUT THE DARNED WINDOW.

It's a waste of time and effort and if I can't get out in any way, ever now, why not just have the last survivor hook themselves, save us all the time and effort and just end the game there.

The changes keep taking and taking and taking and it does nothing to balance the game or even help with QOL.

    Constructive ideas:

Have a chest spawn randomly on the map with a key to reopen the hatch

Have survivors no longer leave scratch marks once the 3rd survivor is sacrificed.

Have the doors spawn a reasonable distance apart from each other (AKA One should not be able to stand at one door and see the other dang door clear as day. (BIG BRAIN idea i know)

Have the hatch become first come first serve. Killer gets to hatch zone first Killer can close. Survivor rolls up on hatch first well they get to escape.

People are still going to camp hatch, just like killers still camp face. Not sure what can be done about either, maybe loud loud loud SFX? Have the hatch BLAST its wooshy sound so both killer and survivor know where it is, and for face camping, some sort of circus music :D

I'm not demanding the hatch, I'm not entitled to the hatch, but i'm saying there's some very imbalanced stuff happening in regards to it that it seriously needs looked into.

So end game is technically supposed to favor the killer. I mean, the killer gets stronger as people die because this isn't designed as a 1v1. Its a 4v1. 4 people have the best chance to escape. As people die the remaining survivors don't get stronger. Nor should they.

    Vile

I have issues with keys spawning in chests, however, in a situation like this, its not a bad idea. Long as the chest doesn't spawn right next to hatch.

I can go for no scratchmarks if the aura is shown for the whole endgame.

Doors should have a minimum distance they can't spawn under.

Disagree completely with first come first serve.

Hatch is pretty loud as it is.

As it relates to the time it takes for 3rd person to die, I do think it takes too long. When everyone is hooked on death hook, the game ends instantly. Its almost jarring. Sacrifices shouldn't be instantaneous but sometimes they do drag on.

  • @Chrisko said:

How is the hatch an "easy free" escape?

    1. As the killer you get to move easily around the map with no worry and look for the hatch. The survivor has to worry about you finding them so they can't move freely.
    2. You get time (from the initial death hook) to look for the hatch or get to the hatch without it opening.
    3. You get to close the hatch if you find it.

it's like the killer is playing too well and you don't like that and want to give a free escape to survivors that failed their objective

    🤔

EGC Was put in because both killers and survivors took games hostage for hours. I had a friend literally stand on the hatch in front of a killer for 15+ HOURS. He took a nap! the killer went to get coffee at the shops! @_@@AshleyWB It's not meant to favor the killer at all, it was meant to shove everyone out of the game so it would actually end. Period.

EGC is a whole other slap in the face because it punishes survivors by letting bad, lazy, unskilled killers get guaranteed kills/wins because Mommy EAC will just come kill the survivors and give them points after they've closed the hatch and are now standing between gates waiting for the one lone bastard to come and give themselves to the killer so their chubby can get that little bit more thicc.. Killers cried their games weren't fun. well it's survivors turn, and we just keep getting the shaft. Even the new players, the people just having bought this game in the last 2 months are complaining. That is very very bad.

Keys shouldn't spawn in chests until hatch has been closed. No it shouldn't span near the hatch. 100% agree there. (also agree keys like green key OP needs just deleted from chests, period.)

BUT if theres a chest with a key, and a hatch, and 2 doors, that gives the one sole survivor a chance at least. That's all We want, is a CHANCE. Because it feels like crap to play very very well, with 3 other potatoes thanks to the lovely lobbying system we've got here, and then BOOM EGC, Hatch closed, doors at 10 and 2. Please wait for your prize to show up or die. Game over.

Playing better, doing bones, get in lockers, run these perks, don't run those perks, etc etc stop and think how silly that will sound when you see there is literally nothing to be done, but let EGC run out or just give yourself to the killer. There is no skill in slugging, tunneling, snapping the hatch and standing there waiting for the time to tick away. Come find me. Hunt me. Mind game me. Terrorize me. THATS what DBD is about not "Killer kills. Survivors die."

No, that's not the survivors place, if they were VICTIMS maybe, martyrs, but the name of the players are SURVIVORS, give them a chance to survive.

The no scratch marks is in lieu of any of these for the last man standing not the whole team(it was just a list of various ideas) it's just another option for the survivor to have a chance and the killer will have to use their eyes and ears and actually HUNT. Also, if we can't see a killer or hear them in some cases (Like The gunslinger that suffers from TTRS - Tiny Terror Radius Syndrome) until they are right on top of us, we should have the ability to be able to properly move and hide and not be 'seen' because 3-5 second scratch marks, when all it takes is 3 seconds for the killer to jog from door 1 to door 2. I'm saying slow down the killers as I know its a 'race' at this point, but this would give so much more options and chances for a fair fight than there is now. So the 'auras until match is over' not going to work for this situation. Unless once the killer closed the hatch, the doors instantly opened and then I'd be down. LOL that actually sounds like a fun race for the door. Or make it so BOTH killer and survivor have auras and can see each other. Make it fair ;)

We're all in agreeance about doors, why can't the devs be?

Also not sure why this is now a quote, haven't been able to get this weird bulleting premium code crap off my forums and it's really starting to annoy me.. Anyways..

First come could be exploited, however, the killer can still hit the survivor and they can go or be downed or get EACed because that tick down timer is still live. Too many times I've had the killer be able to override or grab the hatch first, been hearing many many *points to post and others* of people having the same problem, so it needs looked into I'd say.

Sound, eh, i was running out of ideas/hecks to give.

The game is in a heck of a state, with 2k hrs in, I'm slowly giving my game time to other titles because games just not fun these days. :( Shame, it was my favorite. Now the only fun I have is hooking up with newbies and passing on DBD knowledge.. Like getting into lockers before someone gets hooked blocks BBQ and chili. just make sure to count down the seconds and and an extra 1-2 just in case :D <3 Precious nooblettes. "What are scratch marks?" Bless their lil cotton socks.

NEW IDEA THOUGH: Since doors take time to open in EGC even after hatch snap, how about a lock pick option? No key needed for hatch but it would take ____ seconds to pick open the hatch lock. Hell, give it skill checks if the killers cry over it. Long, desperate action done out in the open of a known area by a killer.... Imagine the adrenaline rush XD XD XD

Words on the internet: Can be misinterpreted. Do I sound like a whiny entitled survivor? Maybe. Do I shake the hand of every killer that skillfully bested me? You best your sweet rolls I do! Nothing makes me happier than a solid well played match. Most friends on my list are killer mains having met them at the end if their blades. I understand at the end of the day most of us just wanna win because that means 'we're gud' but some of us like to play to have fun, shame a large portion on both sides has to spoil it.

The aura thing was tongue in cheek sarcasm.

As survivor, if im last and in a hatch or die situation, i beeline for a door. I channel for 4 seconds and either stop if killer found hatch or continue if egc hasn't started.

More times than not, i get out. The lights dont come on for 4 seconds so i get a headstart and killer doesn't know im there. Unless whispers but thats just a risk. I run spine chill all the time and if killer does start coming back it gives me a speed boost which i use to escape.

As for lockpicking, there is a perk in submissions i created the concept for, that picks the lock basically.

I think all keys need removed from boxes, unless they go with a last chest key idea.

And yes 15 hour hatch standoffs were stupid. Yes killer can close hatch but killer can no longer grab a survivor who is escaping.

  • Why I believe the hatch currently favors the Killer:

    1. Killer has faster movement speed (sometimes a lot faster depending on killer).
    2. As the killer you get to move easily around the map with no worry and look for the hatch. Once the hatch spawns, there is a higher chance that the killer will run across it before the final survivor does.
    3. The survivor has to worry about the killer finding them so they can't move freely (especially when they are the last one).
    4. Killer gets FREE time (from the initial death hook) to look for the hatch or get to the hatch without it opening in order to close it.

What advantage does the survivor have?

Should the survivor have any advantage?

It's a last-ditch effort, something that will let you get away even after the team has failed in every other way. It's a final opportunity to save your item, get 5000+ points and deny the killer if you can just stumble upon it first.

How much more do people want it to be?

You do realise hatch shouldn't even exist in the game and is just an easy free escape for survivors ?

So you want the last survivor to stall out the game by hiding instead of doing any gens? Got it.

The hatch serves a good purpose: making sure the game isn’t taken hostage by the last survivor.

To the OP’s point - No, the current hatch mechanic is fine the way it is. If the killer already knows where the hatch is and goes straight there after the death hook of the 2nd to last survivor you should be making a gate or key play.

  • @Chrisko said:

Has anyone else been in the situation where the killer can death hook the next to last survivor and still have time to move half the map to the hatch (that hasn't opened yet) and stand there and wait for the hatch to open only to immediately close it.

I guess it comes down to how accessible the devs want the hatch to be to the last survivor in this situation.

What about survivors camping hatch while killer is hooking the second to last survivor ?

Why not have one of the gates open if the killer closed the hatch. You know when the killer closes a hatch the entity open a door.

  • I think hatch should just spawn underneath you and open, automatically having you fall to victory after you complete your first gen.

The hatch mechanics SHOULD lean in favor of the killer, because the hatch itself is an entirely survivor sided benefit, period. The killer gets absolutely zero benefit from the hatch existing. If you and your squad play poorly and can't get the job done, the hatch spawns to STILL give you a way out, even though you've already failed. So yeah, the mechanics of dealing with the hatch should favor the killer.

You know what else would solve the whole issue? If the third Survivor's death just triggered the egc and the hatch followed its normal rules (as in, you only get it if your team played well enough to get at least 3 gens done). No possibility for holding the game up indefinitely, no unearned escape tunnel for the survivor, and no unfair "closed the hatch on me" complaints. Yet, you still get an automatic hatch spawn every single game. There's your advantage as a survivor.

Are you aware that thats the situation where a key is for? Bring one, and your problem is gone. Also, out of my last 145 matches as solo survivor, 21 games saw the last survivor escape through the hatch without key, and 14 had 1 or more surviors escape with a key. so roughly 25% of matches. Doesnt seem too bad for survivors.
