bhvr doesn’t know how to handle perks.

looking at a lot of perks, it’s VERY clear they think the only options for perks are for them to be utterly useless or completely OP. no in between. the only thing that inspired this post was looking at unknowns perks. each failed skill check is 3 tokens. spend the tokens when you damage a gen and block it for 1 second each…. 3 seconds of gen blocking..?

  • No doubt there is alot of crappy perks, BUT I do like how sometimes you can find cool perk combinations. I was trying out the new Judgement aura perk on the PTB with nemesis. I usually dont get much use from Nemesis, so it was kind of neat having it with a perk that causes so many obsession changes. I feel like this could be fun to use it with other niche obsession related perks.

  • I think there definitely are a lot of perks that are incredibly worthless, and there are some perks that are too strong. I think there are perks in the in-between, the issue is that they feel weak compared to the strongest perks that need nerfs. Personally, I'm excited about the new Moment of Glory change. I don't think it will be meta, but it might be a staple in my new builds!

  • More Perks need fewer activation conditions, deactivation triggers, and more uses. Lots are too niche or overly specific and bring little value when they do work. Some are super weird conditions too, or things that rely on the planets aligning perfectly during a Trial. If there's a perfect storm of events, and ten things converge at the exact moment, and you're doing X while The Killer is doing Y, then for the next three seconds you can do Z. Mostly not even worth it.

Interesting thing you can do with it that I noticed once by accident. You can heal with it to full health while trapped in Trapper's trap. Can make some Trapper players confused when they hit you on the trap and you just get injured and runaway as you getting hit lets you off the trap. Still the luck to get a Trapper is not that easy.

Still if they pick you up from the trap directly it does not matter that you are full health you will still be hoisted on his shoulder and taken to a hook.

  • Looking at the new survivors perks and yeah, the devs are just awful at making perks. Each of them is utterly garbage and outclassed heavily by already existing perks.

Not every perk can be good. And it's kind of in the nature of the game to have meta perks and weaker ones. Not much can be done to avoid it.

As for that unknown one, it can actually be kinda good in anti skillcheck builds and is kind of strong on doctor since his basekit is great for messing with skill checks. A good build is undone, unnerving presence, hex huntress lullaby and merciless storm.

Special skill checks like from Merciless Storm don't count towards Undone. Otzdarva did an entire video when Vecna 2.0 came out trying to pair it with Secret Project to see if after his last video about Undone the perk might be usable now, and even with Doctor and Hunress' Lullaby got absolutely zero value out of Undone. The perk is only usable against lower skill survivors, and even then you'd be better off with many other perks

  • A big problem is that if a perk isn´t op the community often sees it as trash.

    Example:

A perk which gives you anti slug.

First question. Is it better than Unbreakable?

If the answer is yes it is freaking op but if the answer is no why shouldn´t you bring unbreakable.

  • The problem with giving Survivors useful Perks is that they are useful. And then they get nerfed.

  • It's because popular perks are always targets. I've seen perfectly fine perks get changed simply because they were used more often than other perks. This just ends with every perk being trash.

The main thing is that a lot of the issues could be solved if the devs just stopped making perks super weak and extremely situational.

Like on the topic of slugging perks off the top of my head there's a bunch of ways to make other anti slug perks actually viable. Like say if tennacity allowed you to heal other slugs on the ground or if exponential gave you like ten seconds of endurance once you got up. Right now the value from each of these perks is both fairly situational and weak but by making them good in different ways you can actually make them real contenders with unbreakable.

  • You cant do anything really if a perk 1% better than the rest it will be used by most players. Any new perk measured to old ones, is it better? OP! Killing game. If worse? Trash, why would you use it?

Also going on, you nerf most used perks then the second best will be used etc. Its never ending, people play to have advantage. Meta is in every pvp game

Yeah, thats a great point. If a perk is good at anti tunnel, is it better than OTR and DS? No? Well then it's not worth bringing.

  • I miss when we got perks that did one simple thing. "You no longer make noise when injured" or "You can heal yourself but slower" or "You kick stuff faster"

Now it's just "After doing XY for XY amount of times you will earn XY tokens. These tokens can be used for XY"

  • Vee's healing perk, and nearly every teamwork perk are fine examples of stuff that wasn't thought through, like an engineer looking at a blueprint and making up something that makes sense to them on paper, but the people trying to put it in place can't get it to work.
