DBD needs some real competition.

  • Pokemon vs Palword
  • Overwatch vs Marvel Rivals
  • Diablo vs Path of Exile
  • Call of Duty vs Counter Strike
  • League of Legends vs DotA

and there's so many more out there what rival or competition does Dead by Daylight have? Nothing….

DBD devs are far too comfortable and lazy to really improve DBD as there is no competition to worry about and it shows. Again, this event has been terrible as it's very survivor sided while last year was just as bad but very killer sided. The overhaul of the game in that they say comes in 2027 with a graphical overhaul looks promising but after everything i've seen over the years i have a very low bar for them as i expect they'll break something and as for gameplay, they just toss the keys out there to the community. Here's modding freedom go fix the game for us.

I've played since Oni release and i swear from everything i've seen over the years it's like the devs never learn from their mistakes. They step forward up the stairs making positive changes then make some horrible change and fall off the stairs again and again and again because they refuse to fix the stairs and having proper railings on both sides!

The game needs to be balanced and FUN for BOTH sides! Not just one and so far all what i have been seeing is them favoring the survivors as they bring in a lot more money than killer players do.

  • sadly the problem is dbd is like fortnight you need to have a insane amount if ip's and a better idea for people to swap.

  • The new Halloween game looks promising. Same people did the Friday 13th game and this one hopefully won't get abandoned due to lawsuit issues.

It's going to be a nice break from DBD for a while.

I really liked the Evil Dead game but that got abandoned as well. : (

  • DbD is the GOAT of asymmetrical horror. And its here to stay. The amount of original content, the sharp and clear mechanics for veteran players, the amount of IPs, the horror for newbies and much more guarantee that a competitor has to do groundbreaking work to compete.

  • Asymmetric is not a genre, is the problem.

DBD is horror-themed freeze tag with easy to understand mechanics but an enormous amount of depth. There's nothing else like that except for Identity V, which is not competing with DBD due to being a mobile game.

People say this or that game will give DBD competition. Are they horror-themed freeze tag? No? Then they're not competition.

Palworld also isn't competition for Pokemon btw. Palworld is competition for ARK. The reason Nintendo is going after them is because Palworld copied their art style and then Sony bought Palworld. When Palworld was just some indie game, Pokemon didn't care, but now that Palworld is part of Sony, Nintendo is worried about Sony cutting into their merchandise sales by merchandising the Pals. The games are way too different to be competition as games.

And even then, when you look past their similarities and the elements IDV borrowed from DBD, IDV & DBD plays and feels entirely different from one another.

Exactly. I hope the new Halloween and SAW games do well, but in a few months, people will get bored of playing them. DbD’s advantage is variety: if you get tired of setting traps as Trapper, you can throw hatchets as Huntress, for example.

I don't see how Halloween or SAW could have that kind of variety without straying too far from their own lore.

We would need a new asymmetrical game with its own original content to actually compete with DbD.

the saw game will fail and i can tell you exactly why the 3 players can all jump and killer the one player it never works out well when that can happen so sadly the saw game looks like its dead on arrival

  • Every post dbd asym failed hard. Dbd was also really close to failing hard, but Myers saved it. And then everyone else came. Being able to play Nemesjs from RE or Kruger from elm street is ultimately why this game succeeded and why none other will succeed(because most other games are either tied to IPs therefore limited or originals that die too fast because there is no incentive to play)

  • Predictions:

SAW: Genesis | I am assuming there is going to be a major unfun learning curve. OR its going to be like TCM where the killers are super abusable.

Halloween | Everyone thinks it'll replace dbd, becomes super popular for 2 months then dies out and ends up keeping a average community likely will last for a while just won't stay popular.

All in all I think the games will be very fun to play however many people will likely end up having their love for the game to start to fizzle out as their will be a lack of a proper progression system. I say this because I hold the opinion that many people (20-30% ish) don't actually find Dbd fun and simply stay because they have thousands of hours and feel the need to keep playing and get one of their mains p100.

I wouldn't say Myers ''saved'' DBD per say, as the game was still doing well enough player-wise, over 10K in fact. Myers moreso propelled DBD's popularity.

Also since April 2017 was when DBD's playerbase was at it's lowest.
